Bitch Talk: LSG vs PBG as Song OhGong

I agree that Lee Seunggi is the perfect Song OhGong.

LSG looks like he’s born to trick you with lots of crazy and maddening things that you secretly want to do because you too have a wild side to match his. He gives off a very masculine vibe, and because he’s very much a physical actor who can punch, kick and smack an army of demons, you feel protected and sheltered.

But when I saw this picture of Park Bo Gum

I couldn’t help but compare his pose to LSG’s pose in the library in Episode 7.

See the difference?

Now, I’m wavering.  (just kidding.)

PBG does melancholy very well. I think he would have given us a more sensitive and sympathetic OhGong.  But I doubt that he would have given us a defiant, fist-clenching, stop-bullshitting-me! OhGong like LSG’s portrayal. And I like these traits of Song OhGong.

What do you think? Onlysb? mslee?

  1. I can’t see PBG playing OSG.I still see PBG playing younger characters. He does not exude yet that “masculine” aura. Maybe in a few years time. But he can protray emotions very well. I think it is his best asset as an actor. I still wanna see him play university student roles.😝 as for LSG he is a match against CSW’s wit. They can bicker the entire episode and still be amusing to watch. I think with PBG he is not yet in the same league with CSW😀age wise speaking but Id like to see them together in another project perhaps as brothers? 😀

Agree so much yes. I too can’t imagine PBG as Son Oh Gong. I’ve seen PBG as a cold-staring scary villain. Mischievous yes but combining both – no.

And yes his facial expressions are on point. That’s not to say LSG Is not. In Hwayugi, his eyes, frowns and expressions emote so well.

Plus I can’t see PBG with OYS.

  3. So true. So true. 😂
LSG’s chemistry with CSW is tremendous. They bicker so fast and furious that their dialogue appears unscripted. I can’t imagine PBG doing that.
And PBG hasn’t played a university student yet? Huh? How can casting directors miss this?

  4. Phew! I’m glad we’re all in agreement here. LSG is the Monkey King.

For a moment there, when I saw PBG with his head on the table and a sad look on his face, I was hypnotized. 😍

I remembered OhGong’s words back then – whether SunMi felt pity for him too because he was in the same pitiful circumstance as the Mermaid who was betrayed by the human Librarian. And I thought to myself, had PBG said that, OYS would have melted and consoled him. “There! There! Don’t feel bad Song OhGong.” Pathethic isn’t a word that comes to my mind when I think of LSG. He definitely adds this “master of his destiny, master of his universe” vibes to OhGong.

Glad you ladies snapped me out of temporary insanity there. 😂

  5. You’re right about OYS and PBG. She looks like his noona and she’ll have an even harder time acting all that coy with Mr. Innocent. 😜 To me, LSG does look like a rascal or a street punk. 😆

  6. Lol you’re all funny 😀 I think regardless of their image talented actors can give justice to any character case in point Bo Gum and D.O. as villain with youthful angelic looks. Still it’s early to say that for Bo Gum. Because when he feels burdened it shows in his acting so he needs more experience and confidence. I agree that he should take on characters around his own age he is still boyish afterall.
OYS once said she wants to act with Bo Gum so they might have chemistry but yeah it would look like noona romance. Btw He graduated today she just need to wait for him to complete his M.S. hhh
Lastly Bo Gum can be really cheeky, reckless and even showy irl but I doubt he will bring those out in acting. Because he sticks with writer or directors vision of character and refrains from doing anything extra. He doesn’t do adlibs too I think that’s how LSG and CSW does mostly.

  7. hahaha. The gangster is here!!!! Where have you been?
You know me. I was channeling Maleficent and trying to start a fight between LSG and PBG oppa-fans (just kidding. just kidding.)
Yes, I read somewhere that OYS was looking forward to costar with PBG. Nope. I don’t want him in a noona romance. I don’t mind him with Kim So-Hyun (the Radio Romance lead) next.
And no to Jang Nara, Sheesssh. I used to like her, too, but this acting like an ingenue is getting a bit old for me. I don’t know which one annoyed me more in her last kdrama Go Back Couple: Her male leading man, Song HoJun (I don’t see his charm) or the IDEA that Jang Nara is still playing a teenager after all these years of acting.
Didn’t PBG graduate last year? I thought he did the musical Hairspray for his graduation. lol. I must have misunderstood it again. I usually do that when I’m skimming (bad!) the news. Anyway… Congratulations, Park Bo Gum! Caps off to you. I’m sure a lot of girls will be taking “selfies” around him. hahahaha.

  8. Lol I think I’ve lost my fighting spirit somewhere around 1988s Bo Gum is just Bo Gum to me and thankfully his has charm and style as actor. Apart from few exceptions I acknowledge many others as good as him too if not better.
Also his costars are least of my concern I’m fine with anyone except some idols.
That’s why, Jin Joo’s mother stole the show in Go Back Couple. Maybe because leading man’s friends were way too lame he seemed a bit better to me haha

  9. Either you lost your fighting spirit or you suspected what I was up to. (Up to no good, as usual 😈)

Are you watching anything good now? I’ve been looking for a Romcom with no political message or social commentary.

  10. I’m watching Mother. rom-com hmm everyone likes Laugher in Waikiki. It is too slapstick for my taste but it features cutest korean baby I’ve ever seen.

I take offense only when people say things like “I don’t know what people see in xxx, he/she is flop” because why would my preference matter to anyone?

  11. Well, from what I’ve seen of Park Po Bum I can honestly say that I’m glad that he declined this role. He is still young and has a limited acting range, the only one moment where I thought he did good was in “I remember you” where he had a role of anti-villain.
In short, he can act cold, sad, romantic, cute but his face just too innocent to be believable for this type of role.

  12. I’m gonna give my different take of this. I would not touch and compare about their actings or portrayals here. Because nothing to compare, I don’t get to see PBG portrayals of OG, so save to say LSG is the best OG. I view each actor’s success per projects, past projects may indicates whether actors/actresses are versatile enough or not, but I try not to judge their current/future project is as good or bad as their previous.

Instead I’m gonna see it from other perspectives.

Casting PBG may take Hwayugi into more popular and successful show than LSG. I say popular and successful here, not better, because that would be debatable. Why? Because PBG is at his “prime” now, he is in LSG’s place 8-10 years ago. PBG is the “IT” now. Everything he touches turn to gold at the moment. TV, script writers, ads etc want to cast him. Although the show become popular and successful may not be the concern of many kdrama fans… some fans always say they value quality more than commercial success 😉 but it matters a lot to production house, tv stations, writers, even the actors themselves.. A popular, (commercially) successful show brings more business for tv, production team, writer; it also mean bigger chances to win prestigious awards like baeksang etc (good for portfolio), also bigger chances in selling and re-selling the show to overseas with high price.

From this POV, PBG might be a ”better” OG than LSG. (And I believe if they manage to cast PBG for OG, they wouldn’t cast OYS as his co stars, they would choose younger actress to match PBG). I’m not saying LSG doesn’t have “Star Power” himself, LSG is the soul of the drama, but he’s not PBG.. who at the moment has public’s most interest, their #1 darling actor. LSG did his best in creating some buzz worthy at the beginning of the drama. He made “Hwayugi” the most awaited drama for late part of 2017, he delivered the highest rating for pilot episode for TVN in 2017. But then the hype went down… a bit, not sharply declining, but not rise to the level expected from stars-studded-with-famous-writers production. It’s obviously not LSG’s fault, but if PBG were OG, his army of fangirls, ahjumma fans, etc would blindly accept whatever, would keep on talking and discussing about the drama, or even stupidly spazzing about unrelated things like how handsome “oppa” is. But this “talk” keep the hype high. More popular show = higher prices for Ads slots, and TV stations care about this.

  13. Ahhh so in the end, it’s still the commercial value.

But. I didn’t think LSG is past his prime. While last time I never paid notice of him, I do now. Maybe I belong Ng to the minority’s group, and not the mass which the tv people want to catch.

  14. Pff saw that @packmule3
Thanks to Moonlight’s success Bo Gum was overhyped indeed but after a year of hiatus he will have to face same challenge as other actors who recently became leading man. Ratings doesn’t rely on actors after first few episodes if people like the drama they will watch it even when they change lead actor in mind point of drama. Tho I’ve only watched beginning, Hwayugi would be moderate success even with Bo Gum.
Bo Gum turned down offers from writers with hit dramas in past. But we all know truly good writers won’t need popular actors. Neither him nor his fans after popularity or awards as long as Bo Gum can give moving performance cuz that’s what he is capable of. He still has long way to be one of best actors so failure is also welcomed, he can learn from it.

  15. @Karen.. yes, IMO if we view it only from commercial part, PBG is the perfect candidate for OG. but we don’t, right? I throw that opinion just to give different POV😉 I’m not fan of either LSG or PBG, just casual viewers.. but I watch almost all LSG projects compare to only watch one PBG project hahahaha..

LSG is now beyond “IT” class. What I mean, he may not be on his “prime” but he’s is already on stable good position already. I might confuse some of you with what I mean by “prime”, it is more like the one who is on “hottest trend”. And PBG is the hottest trendiest actor at the moment.
