Poem a Day: A New Ship Is Born

I’m cleaning out the kitchen writing desk and I see these these random sticky notes on APaD that I scribbled while waiting for coffee to brew or chicken to roast. I’ll post them here.

The buffet. I think the roadside buffet was hands down better than the hotel buffet. I was terribly UNIMPRESSED with the hotel buffet offering.

That’s it??!!! That isn’t a buffet.

This is a buffet!

What MinHo’s family had was a prix-fixe (literally, fixed price). There’s no buffet table, but there’s a set menu.

You’re served a complete multi-course meal and you’re given a choice from two or three set menus. If you’re going to order an appetizer, first course, fish entree, meat entree then dessert, it’s actually cheaper to go prix-fixe than ala carte, where you order the items separately.

Also, what I like about the prix-fixe is the chef has already balanced the culinary experience for us so I don’t have to worry that I’m ordering ALL spicy (or bland) dishes.  The chef knows best how to whet the appetite or tease the taste buds for his specialty so I just relax and go with the flow. Hahaha. Like in my romcoms, I don’t want to lose “context” or the “story arc” of the food. A well thought-out dinner should have the flavors blend in together with an overall theme. Context matters…even in food.

Also, I’ve to point out that MinHo’s family doesn’t really hate him. They looked happy when he walked in. But the parents ARE too involved with the older son who’s perfect in every way.

I felt guilty watching this because I behaved similarly with our sons. We were stricter with the older son when he was growing up and more laid-back with the younger son. Everything the older son did was “ground-breaking” so we high-keyed celebrated. But everything the younger son did was “as-to-be-expected” so we low-keyed celebrated. But the younger one took everything in stride. And he actually benefited from not having the constant attention and drive to achieve…. Fortunately, despite me, and with the grace of God, they both turned out well. They’re tight brothers.

Are there any “second children” lurking around here? Go ahead and vent at the unfair parenting!

Then, the image of BoYoung as a child. I’m not really surprised that Dr. Ye saw her as a child because Dr. Kim also thought she looked like a child when she was swinging.

This was from Episode 5, when the poem, “Love and Happiness” was narrated. After that swing scene, the camera focused on this picture a girl on the swing. lol. I noticed the reverse colors.

BoYoung = yellow outfit, pink swing. The picture = girl in pink, yellow swing.

It won’t surprise me at all if Dr. Kim ends up with Dr. Ye. lol. Since we were alerted by Ann that Dr. Ye behaves oddly with Dr. Kim, I’ve been reassessing their encounters.

Remember when Dr. Kim suspected that Dr. Ye helped out NamWon and found him a dorm room because he secretly liked BoYoung? Well, I can also suspect that Dr. Ye lent BoYoung money because he secretly like Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim had been acting cute that time.  pwahahahaha. Tit for tat, Dr. Kim!

Honestly I do want to see Dr. Ye’s comeuppance. He reminds me of MinHo when MinHo rejected BoYoung. MinHo thought BY was silly with her poetry, just like Dr. Ye looked down on Dr. Kim for her meddling.  I hope he gets his just deserts for rebuffing Dr. Kim at least three times.

One, when she asked him if he had a girlfriend because she hadn’t a boyfriend either. AND he responded: I can see why. Rudesby.

Two, when she invited herself to go with him to his outings with his sports buddy, and he said something like, “Have you any sense of tact and delicacy? How could you invite yourself when you’d just bad-mouthed me?” pwahahaha.  A simple “no” would have sufficed.

Three, when he refused to be matched up with a colleague and she asked why not. He growled something like “Don’t make me repeat myself” and stormed off.  hahaha. His table manners are awful. I don’t think he excused himself and he gave everybody indigestion.

She’s the hospital matchmaker and it’ll be funny if she’s finally met her own match in him.

It’s also ironic that Dr. Kim always susses NamWon for getting into trouble. She’d say, “Oh! You’re in big trouble now!!” But she herself is always blowing it with Dr. Ye. She got in trouble with Dr. Ye in Episode 8, didn’t she?

In the elevator.

And with the duty roster.

Lastly, a Kim-Ye ship might be considered a comical plot twistbut it was foreshadowed nicely in Episode 7. Remember? We saw BoYoung losing to her unnie Dr. Kim two already. The Youtube guy and the Dubai patient. (Edited: nope. The YT guy liked one of nurses.)

Dr. Ye can be the third one. He was eating his beef stew, unconcerned, like MinHo said, because it wasn’t Dr. Kim who was being matched to the Dubai man but BoYoung. When the subject of Dr. Kim’s match-up was brought up by the Chief Director and Dr. Park, he coldly rejected the notion.

Dr. Park argued that it would set Dr. Kim for life if they helped with the match… and this “marriage of convenience”  ties in nicely with Dr. Kim’s conversation with BoYoung in the elevator.

She was telling BoYoung that, with MinHo being rich, SHE’d be set for life if they got together. Well, I can twist that, too, and say that Dr. Ye ordered them to be quiet NOT because of BoYoung, but because he didn’t like to hear this kind of unsavory and mercenary conversation coming from Dr. Kim. It bothered him that Dr. Kim was a gold-digger. He wasn’t bothered that BoYoung was a flirt or an “easy” girl.

pwahahahaha.

When it came to attracting grown-up men, Dr. Kim has more appeal.

I hope MinHo will be proven right. BoYoung isn’t the type of most men.

I’m on the Kim-Ye ship, for hi-jinks and laughters. Nearsea, where are you? This is just like Reply 1988 all over again with SunWoo ending up with Bora…to the horror of Deoksun.

  1. Kyaaaah is it true that a new ship is born? Let’s we see tonight. And something bother me about “the child”. When dr. ye smile while saw children ate cotton candy, i’m not sure he smile because cotton candy. IMO he smile because the children and we know that dr. kim can’t have a children. I think this gonna makes connection between them. But but then again this just my assumption….

  2. I was laughing mad because I keep refreshing your page in order to see any post of you and YUP. Like everyday you make new post: thumbs up! I think “a poem a day” has been one drama that can make people go crazy about. Feels like the days of Another Miss Oh but A Poem A Day needs a good sharp eye and analyze to understand what the writer and PD-nim trying to say.

It made me think while I watched few episodes earlier on why the title called You Who Forgot Poetry, and before you write all the nice explanations of Minho being the forgot one, I actually thought it would be cracked if Minho is the one who forgot. Because I read from many sites that the actor who portray Dr.Ye is the main lead and I do agree based on the experience he might be the lead. Although I can’t seem to follow it if we start from ep. 1 and how Minho being the one who got more air time and stories with Bo Young.

Anw I love reading all your posts esp Cricket and I. I was laughing how the writer depict Minho as a cricket. He surely love to talk btw.

As much as I am Minho central and love it to bits of Minho – Bo Young interaction, I am not quite sure about their development in next episodes. I am prepared if that happened, if the writer chose to make them in just friend zone.

I think it’s just make sense how their interaction is, though many people hate Minho but he is a manchild so I think I understand. I don’t know about you but it happens that my fiance sometimes acting like a child. And somehow we worked. My saying is that I think Dr.Ye – Bo Young interaction may not relatable and somehow superficial.

About Bo Young feelings, I agree that she is infatuated with Dr. Ye. I once has the same foolish feeling in one of doctor where I work. I was so foolish, like Bo Young the interaction is so minimum yet I could say I’m like falling to that person. So I hope really hope the writer wouldn’t take a further step in their relationship.

Let’s all of us wait and see this week episodes. Finger crossed PDnim and the writer will eventually let the Minho – Bo Young relationship blossom.

  3. Personally, I think that the Jae Wook-Bo young relationship has brother sister vibes but at the same time, I do not think that Bo Young should get back with Min Ho but should instead focus on being a more self-confident, self- assured person. Hopefully, the show will end in personal growth but with nobody ending with anybody.

  4. 😈This is kdrama. What’s kdrama without a time skip? I expect at least a two year timeout somewhere in the 13th or 14th episode. (Please not the last episode, ye drama gods!) MH still has to serve the military anyway. Right? Judging from his bratty ways, he hasn’t served yet. 😆

  5. I am undecided who to ship BoYoung with..but i lean more to Mimho. Why? Between him and Jae Wook, his story continue to be revealed each episode and his interactions with BY from past to present. We were shown how it was and how it is between him and BY. Meanwhile it’s already episode 8(well i still have to watch it tonight) and there is still a lot to know about JW. It is as if he is not the lead male in a drama and his thoughts are still vague unlike Minho’s.

So yeah i think i have chosen my otp.😋

  6. Boooooooo! I was hoping you’d join me on Dr Ye’s ship JUST KIDDING!

Which reminds me… I thought it was interesting that that MinHo didn’t refer to him as “Dr. Ye” when he was drunk? He just called him “Ye Jae Wook” like they were on equal terms.

    He’s da man!!!

He’s younger than Dr. Ye but when it came to fighting over the girl, they’re equals.
