100 Days My Prince: Ep 6’s Swoon-Worthy Moment

I thought this floating wish lantern was very sweet and thoughtful of JeYoon.

But nothing beats saving the girl from a deadly avalanche of cannellini beans, of course.

Only in kdrama-land do scenarios like this happen. Really, it was much easier and more logical for WonDeuk to move them both out of the way of the falling beans, instead of sheltering themselves with his hands.

But scenes like this are exactly why I enjoy kdramas.

Instead of focusing on lust and sex, kdramas emphasize chaste plots. Thus, moments like holding hands, breaking her fall, tucking away a stand of hair, and letting a sleepy head rest on his shoulder (even though these tropes have become predictable and comical), are meant to reveal the nature of the relationship between the two leads.

Here, HongShim was dumbfounded that he would protect her when normally he would complain of any close proximity with her as being “uncomfortable” to him. His behavior here indicated progress. He was beginning to accept skinship as part and parcel of their marital state, unlike his revulsion for any physical contact with the CPrincess.

  1. I loved this scene. I enjoy this kind of tropes. Who cares that it wasn’t the simplest and most logical thing to do to get her out of the way of the oh so dangerous falling beans? I sure don’t 🙂

Anyway, what other dramas from the ones you write about do you recommend? Should I watch The Ghost Detective?

  2. Good morning! 😂

Yes, watch The Ghost Detective. It’s a thriller/suspense more than a ghost story.

I’m also going to watch Third Charm. The lighting is a bit (hmm how do I describe this?) harsh? unfiltered? so don’t be put off by the “cinematography.” hahaha. But I think it’ll be a good romcom. Plus, the actor is such a joy to watch. He delivers. There were little nuances and ticks in his portrayal of a “nerd” that I haven’t seen in other actors.

Like, he looks like that nerd emoji 🤓 because of his black glasses and his overbite (he wears braces). He looks believable when he acts timid and scared. I know he’s a handsome actor but he pulled off his socially awkward character.

  3. Yes. The beans were reallllly scary. They could give you a thousand cuts.
    Death by beans, who knew?

Can you imagine if that basket had contained apples instead? Or nails? 😂

I don’t know why I fall for these ridiculously saccharine tropes in kdramas every time. The writers are never-ending spigots of novel ideas to show romance. 👍
