If lurkers want to ridicule my taste in TV shows, because it’s not cerebral enough or it’s too bourgeois, best not come to this blog.

I’m sorry but this moment is totally fan-service. lol. I can see the actor and idol Kwangsoo doing his best impression of the resting-bitch-face, not WonDeuk. But that’s okay, I enjoyed it. I found it both playful and flirtatious at the same time.

Hmmm… I think I have to explain something about this kind of flirtation.

It looks counterintuitive. When someone’s bragging about how amazing he looks, we’re usually turned off.

But here in this instance, it WORKED for WonDeuk (or I should say the actor, Kyungsoo?). Even when he struck that haughty pose, he looked good, and it has something to do with  “negative suggestion.”

This was their bantering:

WD: Why are you looking at me like that
HS: Because you’re amazing
WD: You may go on looking.

When he ordered, “You may go on looking,” my brain cells – as the viewer — reacted negatively to his suggestion. I thought, “No! Why should I? You conceited guy!” But then my eyes were focused on WonDeuk/KyungSoo as he turned his head to show his profile and placed fingers under his chin to appear as if he was in deep thought.

And three things collided:

one, I was resisting thinking of him as “amazing
two: he looked really stupid showing a side profile as if he was a carved Egyptian sphinx,
three: but come to think of it, he didn’t look bad at all.

That’s why I thought this moment was a good example of flirting. It confuses the viewer, especially a female viewer when the guy says something matter-of-factly but the effect on her is laughter. It makes him look…welll… rather amazing.

hahaha.

  1. I think that’s what it is. It needs to be seen in context and in the context of their relationship it was light hearted banter between the 2 of them. It was warm, it was meant to be over the top ridiculous but it was cute. I can’t hate WD at all because he is a man of character. Much like Darcy. Yes I am very prejudiced indeed. 🙂

  2. “when the guy says something matter-of-factly but the effect on her is laughter. It makes him look…welll… rather amazing.” YES!

  3. Right? Right?

It means she’s simply besotted with him. Smitten. Crazy about him.

That whatever he says, she’s happy with it.

Which reminds me of another fan-service in this episode… will have to post about this later.
