Fluttering Alert: His “Sagwa” Gift ๐Ÿ’

She gave him a box of apologies with a letter, a posy of purple hyacinths and an apple.

He sent her a chair.

The accompanying note said, “I’m sorry for misunderstanding you. I can’t explain the entire situation to you, but I’ve been deeply hurt by people who use money as power and ruin other people’s lives. So, if something happens that reminds me of that, I become overly sensitive. I apologize once again. Please accept my apology along with the present I sent you.”

The reason he sent the chair was simple.ย He wanted to remain in her life.

Remember? She invited him to her secret garden. According to Guy Smiley the brother, “not just anyone could go in there.” She would have to invite the person in.

It was clear that her secret garden was a sanctuary for one and only one person. There was only one chair to be found in it. A feminine white wicker one.

He had nowhere to sit so he perched on the side table.

Back then, she invited him to take a plant home as a gift. Instead, he invited himself over. He said, “When I want to see it, I’ll come over.”

Smooth, eh? To me, he was testing his boundaries to see if she would allow him inside her personal space.

And the chair was his way of claiming a stake in her future. It was to be HIS spot when he came over to visit her next time. The armchair was his sort too. It was heavy and solid. It was a straight-back chair with little frills and padding. It was minimalist.

He sent that chair to her home but she was the one to haul it to her inner sanctum. She chose to place it right across from her wicker chair, ready for a private tรชte-ร -tรชte. The arrangement signified that what was once a solitary place for one had now become a cozy place for two.

That was why, for me, it was fitting that her phone would send her a reminder at that exact instant that they were scheduled to meet his mom that night.

You see, he had told her in that same place that his mother would like to meet her and she accepted without a moment’s hesitation. He was surprised.

However, she had called off their contract dating so now WooHyun was uncertain whether their date with his mother was still on or not. He had been puttering aimlessly in his house, waiting to hear if he was forgiven.ย I like to imagine that he was sitting on his “time-out” chair when he got her text.

She texted him that she accepted his apology and that they should go meet his mother. ๐Ÿ˜‚ She could hardly say “apology not accepted” when she welcomed his gift and lugged it all the way to her green room. Right?

Sitting across from his gift, she would have been keenly aware of the empty spot. His empty chair awaited him because he too was awaiting word from her that she forgave him.

Just like her box of apology was well-thought out, his sorry chair was sensible too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Awwwww! Nice move from our fake couple ๐Ÿ˜ I did noticed that he sat on that table when they were in her garden and I knew that the garden was special to her. So definitely we will see them together there at some point and maybe share a kiss or two! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Thanks for this ๐Ÿ˜˜ I still havenโ€™t seen the episode because itโ€™s not there yet, where I watch that is ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

  2. Oh yeah!!!! Letโ€™s bookmark the place for a kiss scene. Hahaha. Letโ€™s not waste a good place here.

Oddly enough Viki had both Mama Fairy and Fluttering Alert. Iโ€™ll see if I can shift my appointment this morning to after lunch so I can watch the show live.

  3. How nice, but these two are already looking like an Apache love: Kiss, slapping, kissing and slapping figuratively speaking.

  4. Well said, @packmule3. I’ve never seen a drama’s characters model gratitude and humility so well.

I can’t wait for the translation of Yoo-Jung’s note to Woo-Hyun’s mom in Ep. 6. My dream is coming trueโ€”we’re getting a note from Yoo-Jung every episode!

  5. And did you see the carved message along the top edge of the chair in Ep. 6 (1:02:00)?

Translations can’t come soon enough for this show, but it seems like Viki takes longer to complete the Thursday episodes.

  6. YJ saw it for the first time too in todayโ€™s episode โ˜บ๏ธ I want to know too what it means.

What about WHโ€™s Mom? She was so star struck with YJ ๐Ÿ˜‚ But looks like she said something about the marriage that sheโ€™s pushing.

    Just woke up! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

  7. I like how WH is taking the initiative to bring himself into her personal space since he seemed to be the more uptight between the two.

He also let her into his life way before when he kept her letter for him in his book and kept the Hyacinth with the note in his kitchen.

  8. True. True.

He’s the uptight one… but don’t you like it that way? I think we prefer guys who are “reserved” and “cautious.” Take for instance, the guy/Professor in Mama Fairy. Grrr… I can’t really “get” him because he talks too much. ๐Ÿ˜€

He’s uptight alright but he’s noisy, too. I wish he’d stop squawking so I could hear myself think and understand him. I don’t know how long I’ll be watching that kdrama because of him.

  9. Oh, he did? hahahaha.
Back to the drawing for me, then.

I wasn’t able to move my appointments this morning so I couldn’t live-watch the show. Oh well.

I already rescheduled next Wednesday’s meetings so I’m good then.

Remember how we’d do this for W&C? Synchronize our schedules??

I’ll watch Episode 6 later tonight or whenever the subs up. Third Charm is ending this week and I want to be there for the kill…errr…finale. I jumped to Episode 13 so I could catch up tomorrow.

  10. I wasn’t able to live-watch it this morning.

Really? WH didn’t send the chair?! Rats. Don’t tell me he sent her something like roses, chocolates and wine. What a stinker!! Somebody has got to up his game here.

Oh well… nice try, packmule3! (pats myself on the head) Sometimes I think I must have been a Casanova in my previous life (if I believe in reincarnation and karma)…

I checked viki just now. It’s only <40% subbed.

  11. There’s another note?? Alright!!

But this kdrama had better not be tragic at the end because I’m burning all those notes.

See? Love letters are lovely if the romance ends well. But if they separate at the end, those love letters will be either cold comfort or hellish reminders.

BTW, what’s your take on the father’s advice on marriage?

  12. The chair was his sagwa gift ๐Ÿ™‚ He made it himself right? So heavy too hahaha I thought YJ needed help in putting it where she wanted it ๐Ÿ™‚

What was the carved message on the chair? I won’t be able to watch episode 6 till tomorrow ๐Ÿ™

Ooh and are we getting a kiss in the secret garden??? Did WH admitted that he remembered the kiss and it’s because he likes her???

We set a time on our re-watch for W&C, I think we started at 11pm my time so we go from there and don’t finish till early morning hahaha
By the way that song when YJ entered the door to meet WH’s Mom at the hospital was the same in W&C when Mayor’s niece came to meet JJ at the party hahaha

I thought she did look pretty. Also I like that yellow sequenced top that she wore.

  13. Wait? Was it his sagwa gift or not? Are you sure? Then, what’s the etching that @tsutsuloo mentioned? He personally etched it?

I havenโ€™t watched Ep 6. Sooooorry. Will do it soon, I promise. Iโ€™m working on a review for Mama Fairy bec the discussion over there is moribund.
And will try to liven it up. ๐Ÿ˜€ By the time I’m done with my review of Mama Fairy, the Viki subs will be complete (ha! wishful thinking here or a command?)

edit: if he made the chair himself, then he gets brownie points for that. +1000 points. And couldn’t this kdrama be any more romantic with these gifts? It reminds me of that Christmas song: On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, a partridge in a pear treeeeeee!

  14. You remembered the music from
    W&C?? I ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™€๏ธ bow down before thee.

  15. I haven’t watched episode 6 too. Don’t worry. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, his sagwa gift was the chair. Base on what he wrote on his sorry letter. He stated about the gift on the last bit of the letter. But when YJ was carrying it, the top half was covered so she did not notice the carving until episode 6.

Let me know if this is correct please. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

I just assumed he made the chair with all the scene where he was working on some woods hehehe and yes with the romantic gifts on this drama, it all makes sense and ties the couple more!!!

  16. Ya, We are the Royal Ladies after all so I’ll accept the bow! Thank you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please accept my bow in return ๐Ÿ™‡ because you are amazing in your dedication and expressing dramas like this ๐Ÿ™‚ We really do appreciate it!

One day we can do a holiday trip to South Korea and just enjoy the place and go to where the dramas were filmed? LOL!

  17. I wonder if there was any significance that in Ep 6, when they were in her garden drinking wine and playing the Truth game, that YJ sat in WHโ€™s chair and he sat in hers? Lol I may be reaching quite a bit but thanks to anyone who would find this meaningful to analyse! Heh.

  18. I don’t know really. ๐Ÿ˜€

But my guess is that in the future, she choose to sit there because she’s accepted her new role in his life. There was a “question” that went along with that chair. (I’ll explain further in my “Truth or Consequence” post.) Essentially, he was inviting her to be part of his life.

However, she didn’t know that until she asked him during their game.

I simply assumed that she decided to sit there because it was HERS. It was his gift to HER. It would look like she didn’t accept or appreciate HIS gift if she suddenly scurried over to her old wicker chair. hahaha. The chair was nearest to her so she took it.

However, after his explanation, she’ll know that the seat carries a special significance.

I’m glad though that she DID ask him that question. She knew him well-enough that a gift coming from him would have had added meaning. He didn’t seem to be the type to do things haphazardly and without consideration.

  19. Howdy! Weekends are always busy ๐Ÿ™

Anyhow, yes I agree that she just sat there because it is hers. She showed that she values it ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, I think I’m getting confused now because I thought before the truth or consequence game, they were already sitting on it on another scene.

Maybe I need more sleep because I am seeing things that’s not there? LOL!

  20. Good morning to you. Are the kids back in school now?

Before the truth/consequences game, she had been working for her upcoming drama, memorizing lines in her study room. When WH checked on her, sheโ€™d fallen asleep. He went to cover her with a jacket and she woke up. She called out to him. Then, the next scene, they were in the secret Garden.

    Thatโ€™s what I have on Viki. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Just got home myself.

  21. Good evening to you ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, the boy’s are in school as I am at work for another 2 hours.

The scene that I was talking about is when WH told Yj that he will visit his Mom tomorrow. YJ responded that she will go with him as they were supposed to before that stabbing. WH told YJ that his Mom has cancer. Sorry my point was they were in the secret garden before the truth/consequence scene but YJ did not notice the carving till the truth or consequence scene. I just got confused because even WH paid his respect to YJ’s Mom and bowed but didn’t on this scene.

This scene was after they talked to the Police, they were just seating down and the chair was completely opposite of each other. Not like the truth/consequence scene, it was almost side by side.
