He’s Psychometric: Episode 9 Flash Review

On one hand, it’s fun when the story shapes up in the way I expected it to be.

But on the other hand, it’s scary because there are still 3 more weeks (or 6 more episodes) for the writer to create a plot twist…and I hate stupid plot twists. “Ghost Detective” writer, do you hear me?  And I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the director doesn’t crap on us all and make Sungmo and Jaein fall in love with each other in Episode 12, like what the odious director of “A Poem Crap a Day” did. #asshattery

Let’s start with the end first.

1. The music box

He made her a Christmas tree because he wanted to replace her bad memories and give her good memories. This was so sweet of Lee Ahn.

My guess is she made him a souvenir of  their first kiss to erase his “first” accidental kiss with Daebong. If I were Jaein, I would want him to remember that his “horrid” ability helped him get a girlfriend – as he said.

Besides, she has a gutter mind, right?

lol. I really like his term of endearment for Jaein, “Gutter mind.”

It reminds me of his Hyung’s pet name for Jisoo. He calls her, “Detective Meticulous.”

2. Finally, Lee Ahn discovered his past history with Jaein!

@agdr03, remember, in one of your comments, you asked whether Jaein knew about Lee Ahn’s parents dying at the fire?

I replied, “No, I don’t think Jaein knows that LA’s parents died during fire. She didn’t recognize who LA was when they met in high school. It was LA who first discovered her identity when he saw her picture when she was little. Then, in Episode 5, the death anniversary came and she lit the candles. She lit the candles without sparing a thought for LA.”

“If she knew his parents died because of the fire, she would have apologized profusely when they met up later that day because it was the death anniversary. She wouldn’t have rejected the Hyung’s request to help develop LA’s talent because she would have felt guilty.”

“Later that day, when they met again, LA mentioned that they met when they were children but she said she couldn’t remember anything about that day. She wouldn’t be able to recollect him, as a child, pointing that his father was up in heaven. So, she still doesn’t know how the fire tied her to Lee Ahn. Neither does Lee Ahn. Only Sungmo knows everything.”

I also added, @agdr03:

“Young Lee Ahn told young Jaein that there was a fire in his apartment and his mom, dad and other people died in the apartment. Young Jaein’s eyes widened to signify that she made the connection: she and the boy were linked by the fire. However, the grown-up Jaein forgot about it. Wellll, she could be lying when she told Lee Ahn that she couldn’t remember meeting him as a child. But for now, I’m choosing to believe her when she said she couldn’t remember. So if she couldn’t remember their conversation, then she still wouldn’t know (in the present time) that young Lee Ahn had told her about his parents dying in the fire her father “caused.”

“The grown-up Lee Ahn didn’t recount the part about his parents dying in the fire. He only told her that they met as kids and she’d asked for his help. He didn’t repeat his whole story.”

So, to recap, @agdr03, since Ep 3, Ahn already knew they met when they were kids and in Ep 5, he informed her of their first encounter.

But it’s odd that Jaein couldn’t remember.

He informed her of his first psychometry reading on her shoe, and that she made a request, “Then can’t you ask them to free my dad? My dad is not a bad person. Really.” And Lee Ahn said, “Strangely on that day, I couldn’t forget about you.”

At that time, Jaein was confused. And I believed her.

Now, with the flashback in Episode 9, it’s been revealed that their encounter outside the police wall wasn’t at all their very first meeting. They previously met in the elevator of the apartment complex on November 1, 2005. More than a month before the fire on December 3rd.

Lee Ahn didn’t know her name back then. To him, she was just another kid in the apartment but before they went separate ways, he got her name.

Knowing that their meeting outside the police headquarters was in fact their second meeting, I don’t understand how Jaein could have forgotten BOTH their encounters: at the elevator and at police wall.

Sure, she might not have recognized him at first in high school after they met 11 years later.  But after they met again and he recounted their first meeting, her memories should have been jolted. It’s NOT as if she had a brain trauma from jumping off the 7th floor window and hitting her head like Lee Ahn.

She knew who Sungmo was when he fell on top of the car, but I wonder if she recognized little Lee Ahn too.

This additional flashback in Episode 9 warrants a closer look later on Jaein….

3. The scar on neck of the stabber/dad is interesting. Where did he get that?

It would be weird but “fitting” if it was young Sungmo who gave him that scar.

If we’re correct with our assumption that it was the dad who chained him to the wall by his right ankle, leaving a scar around his right foot, then it would suit my symmetrical, “tit-for-tat” mindset that Sungmo caused that injury to his neck. Like father, like son, right? lol.

See that scar around the father’s neck? As I said, the dad kept tugging his left side but this is probably due to his being left-handed. The scar seems to be right under his neck.

Aha! @agdr03, that’s why we noticed that his voice sounds weird in Episode 8!!

We commented that his speech pattern was unusually slow. If he received an injury under his neck, then it’s possible that his voicebox or larynx was affected.  He would have had to learn to speak again through speech therapy. 🙂

And another weird idea: is THAT the connection with the mute bird?  Like your parents-in-law, I’ve family who kept birds for pet. They’re noisy creatures. At night, the cages had to be draped with blanket so they’ll keep quiet.

4. What’s Sungmo mapping?

Is he figuring out how the stalker can get to the Jaein’s Security Center without being detected? This should be convenient if the stalker/killer wanted her to follow him to a place where he could kill her.

And that explains why the white truck came out of nowhere in Ep 5. The stalker deliberately made his entrance on the scene noticeable (he was turning right from the middle lane!) and his driving pattern suspicious. He wasn’t trying to hide that he was tailing Sungmo so Lee Ahn would be curious.

He wanted Lee Ahn to follow him so he could ambush Lee Ahn in an area without CCTV.

He’s probably now planning the same thing for Jaein. An ambush somewhere the CCTV can’t see him.

5. “The King has donkey’s ears.”

It means that Lee Ahn can’t keep a secret. lol. He has a BIG secret to share with the whole world.

Here’s the folk tale about this: donkey’s ears

Edited: I thought this scene was ironic. Everybody else still has secrets to reveal. He’s the only open book here.

6. Lee Ahn is the healer.

It’s interesting to note that he took on Jaein’s father’s role here. He tied Jaein’s shoelaces and he bandaged Sungmo’s injury.

But also he “rescued” his friend Daebong. No wonder Daebong couldn’t refuse him anything even his beloved mustang, Emma.

Okay, I’ll probably add more comments as I rewatch this episode. This is just my “flash” reaction after all. Gotta run.

Edited:

The bag Lee Ahn was wearing was appropriate for the moment. Good job, wardrobe director!

The words on the strap read, “Il y aura des jours meilleurs.”  Translation: There’ll be better days. — Just like what Ahn wishes for Jaein.

  1. We don’t want crap definitely. We can only hope and 🤞. As it is, LA and JaeIn are suffering now. It’s hard to see them in so much pain. Poor things.

1 – I think that’s what JaeIn did for her music box too for LA. Picture of the park where they kissed. 😍 It looks like it’s Christmas soon in the drama? I have to rewatch episode 9.

2- Yes, I insisted that JaeIn knows about LA’s parents but because of the trauma of what happened to her Dad, she blocked it all. That’s why she doesn’t feel any guilt towards LA. For LA it was ok for him not to connect that it was JaeIn’s Dad who supposedly caused the fire because of his accident. But like you said, JaeIn should have remembered LA because they have met twice. We will have to wait and see how it goes. I have not seen episode 10.

3 – Yes, I noticed the scar on stalker/dad’s neck and that’s probably why his voice sounds creepy. He even made that bird on a cage again. It’s very significant now. How horrible to think that Father and Son have been fighting a battle for a long time. 🙁

4 – You’re advance in the scenes, you got it right because stalker has JaeIn now. Poor thing.

    5 – It’s amazing those legend stories. 🙂

6 – I’m glad we had the background story on Daebong. I’ve always thought he was such a great friend just lending his car to LA anytime. hehehe LA standing up to Daebong’s abusive Dad was very courageous but especially how Daebong saved LA afterwards.

What do you think of the Policeman that works with JaeIn? Last night he actually saved the single mother (sorry, forgot her name) from that horrible mother. I’m not sure he’s a bad guy now.

    Okie, laters again. 🙂

  2. I forgot to add that I love LA’s jacket in your edited scene. It wasn’t the bag that caught my eye, it was his jacket. 😍
