He’s Psychometric: Ep 10 On Sunflowers, Mums and YSS Construction

Yes, I’m aware of that there are various interpretations of the sunflowers and chrysanthemum (or mum, for short) in this scene.

But being a first-rate bitch, I’ll only post MY explanations of the flowers in my blog and challenge myself by going one step further to connect both flowers to YSS Construction.

Ready?

Yes, I noticed the medallion from Episode 1 when Jisoo picked up Lee Ahn from prison. But I held my tongue because I couldn’t see the front side of the medallion.

But here’s my simple explanation now: sunflowers FOLLOW the sun.

Like a sunflower, Jisoo follows Sungmo wherever he goes. That’s why she keeps glancing at the medallion while driving to catch Sungmo. She’s like that sunflower.

I don’t know if viewers know their Greek mythology, but I believe this director does — just like he knows his Lyra and Orion constellations.

In Greek mythology, the story of the sunflower is about unrequited love. There once lived a nymph who watched the sun god all day. To her sorrow, however, the sun god was in love with another girl and never paid attention to her. When the nymph died of unrequited love, she was turned into a sunflower so she could continue to look at the sun god and wait for him to notice her.

So, if we connect this to Jisoo, we can see how she resembles a sunflower. Like the sunflower follows the sun, she follows Sungmo everywhere, although in her mind, Sungmo cares for another girl, Jaein.

Of course, I do NOT think the sunflower foretells of a future romantic liaison between Sungmo and Jaein. Ha! The writer and director would have to be batshit crazy to invoke the wrath of the JinYoung’s fanclub. lol. Oppa Jinyoung’s fangirls will go after both of them should Lee Ahn lose his Jaein to Kang Sungmo (lol. See I don’t even know the other actors’ names?)

As for the flower in her tea, it’s a chrysanthemum, or mum, for short.

Sounds like “mom,” right? And it would be appropriate because Jisoo’s on a quest to find Sungmo’s mom. lol.

But chrysanthemums also mean grieving and neglected love…and death. They’re the flowers used for funeral bouquets.

Didn’t you notice them? lol. The bigger versions were in the opening scene.

lol. Those were chrysanthemums, too, at the funerals.

And I so dislike this idea because I’m seeing too many signs of foretold death for our Jisoo that I don’t find them funny anymore.

Okay, director! Cut it out already! You don’t have to give me death omens every single episode. You’re making me paranoid.

In the last episode, she talked drunkenly about dating Dr. Hong in her next life.

And this episode, there are the flowers, sunflowers and the mum, and the YSS signs.

Do you see them? I bet the viewers’ eyes were on Sungmo’s car that they didn’t see the all important YSS signs in the background.

Two of them: yellow and red.

And here, too. See the YSS banner behind her?

Was she in a YSS building alone at night?  lol. I wouldn’t do that if I were her.

So while Yoon Jaein, Lee Ahn and Kang Sungmo are threatened by a single psycho killer, I’m not THAT worried about them. I’m more worried about Jisoo because not only is the killer targeting her but so do her father’s criminal connections… and she’s clueless.

Edited to add this:

The ringtone for Lee Ahn on Jisoo’s cellphone is from Chopin’s Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op. 9 No. 2

Edited again:

Here are my previous notes on Jisoo and her death comments.

  1. I know right? I keep thinking yes he kidnaped Jaein but Ahn is on to save her and all Seongmo cares about is Jaein but Jisoo is also on the phone/pictures, and there’s been enough YSS signs. She’s the one in the wild running around with no one checking on her.

Her dad probably was given money for her surgery back then in returns for her dad supporting YSS. What if there’s two cases mixed together one with regards of YSS and another one with Seongmo’s story? Then Jisoo can be so dangerous! Please even if Seongmo ended up not loving her then find her someone even better don’t kill her writer!

  2. I agree about the commissioner accepting money for Jisoo’s medical expenses. That would explain the “weakness” the company rep was talking about in Episode 8(?).

It’s beginning to be a perfect storm. Sungmo’s dad set the fire which killed Lee Ahn’s dad (and mom) but Jisoo’s dad hurried up the investigation and arrested Jaein’s dad.

The YSS bribery angle can be one possible reason Jisoo’s dad was in a hurry to close the investigation. He could have been bribed to expedite things. But he could have just been eyeing the promotion if he wrapped things up quickly.

But yes, Jisoo’s in danger. I don’t want her killed. Grrrr… But part of me is convinced that Sungmo likes her as a grown-up while he only likes Jaein as a precocious child in the same manner that he likes Lee Ahn.

  3. That’s my question, how does YSS related to the case. Like why would YSS wants Jisoo’s dad to close the case quickly? Who are they trying to protect and what are they trying to cover exactly? And how does that related to Seongmo’s parents? Either Seongmo’s dad is somehow related to YSS, (less likely?), or that the fact that he apartment building has money relations to YSS? Why bring the 4th woman if Seongmo’s dad didn’t know that he’s killing the 3 women? Who put Seongmo’s mom’s ID onto the 4th woman’s body? If it’s not Seongmo trying to fake his mom’s death, then why would Seongmo’s dad trying to do that? Unless there are actually two different cases happening at the same time?

Hmm but after this episode I honestly can’t see where it shows he cares for Lee Ahn tho. He wants Ahn to stop him from becoming the killer that he doesn’t want to be. He values his ability but Ahn’s picture wasn’t even on the phone lol (at least not shown right now, unless they show at the end that Ahn’s actually the last one on his phone) And it’s all about trusting Ahn to help him, but he doesn’t really care about Ahn’s well being tho (emotionally and physically)?

Knowing that when he left without saying a word would hurt Ahn again, he went to see Jaein only and not Lee Ahn before he leaves. He left a note to ask Ahn to protect Jaein but no words for Ahn. He knows how hard Ahn is having it right now he didn’t even check on him (even like how he stalk Jaein without Jaein seeing him) Even when Ahn was injured he didn’t pause the training one bit to see if his body is okay or not. And Ahn has been stabbed by the killer before, isn’t it kind of mean to ask Ahn to protect Jaein from this same killer again? What if this time he got killed instead? (Of coz he’s the main lead we know he won’t)

Their bromance is all cute and such but it’s either the writer couldn’t include scenes to show Seongmo cares for Ahn sincerely for who Ahn is not what Ahn can bring to the table or his ability, or that the character really doesn’t lol

  4. It’s beginning to be a perfect storm. Sungmo’s dad set the fire which killed Lee Ahn’s dad (and mom) but Jisoo’s dad hurried up the investigation and arrested Jaein’s dad.

That’s why at the funeral, Sungmo said to the commissioner ‘did you look into the man that I said?’ but Jisoo’s Dad brushed it off and said ‘don’t talk about that here’. So it’s between Sungmo’s Dad, Jisoo’s Dad and YSS contruction for the bad people.

I didn’t know the meaning of sunflowers before, thanks. I don’t want Jisoo to die too. But yes, there’s a few times now that she’s foreseeing her death. I did noticed those YSS signs too when she was looking for Sungmo. I think that’s the wharf? Wasn’t it an island that the medical record of his mother came from?

I would be included in those fangirls that will go batshit if Sungmo ends up liking JaeIn but I think not. Hyung’s feelings for JaeIn is that of a younger sister because she was there when no one was there for him when he was young.

From the teaser, maybe Hyung was able to meet his Mom and she gave him the ring because she wants to live alone again. This is me assuming again.

  5. That’s my question, how does YSS related to the case. Like why would YSS wants Jisoo’s dad to close the case quickly? Who are they trying to protect and what are they trying to cover exactly? Now that I rewatched some clips, so the building does belong to YSS as it shown in ep10.

    ……..

  6. I think it was the jetty to the island Seongmo was heading, not a YSS building. There must be some protest going on against the company and the fact that it was near the island where Seongmo’s mum is… hmm

  7. Remember how JI’s dad was complaining about how the parking around the apartment impeded the access for Firetrucks? That would’ve been a building/planning issue? Was YSS the construction company responsible? To blame the fire on JI’s dad (shut him up for good) and to expedite the case would mean less media focus on the building faults/fire truck access? A lot of people died in that fire. If the media focus is on the arsonist then all that public anger is directed to him (JI’s dad). Dragging it out would mean people would look for other reasons for all those deaths. It’s a win-win for YSS – shutting up JI’s dad for good and also shifting the blame on all those deaths on him so they can wash their hands of it.

Argh…I am with all of you. Please writer don’t kill Jisoo. I really like her. I actually like her more than I do JI. And I am with PM3. I don’t think SM’s feelings for JI are romantic. I think thus far isn’t she the only one who has made him smile/feel? He treats her like a curiosity so he is affectionate but not romantic. Remember how LA hugged SM outside the apartment and for the first time he could read him? It was a vision his encounter with JI who thought he (SM) was a stalker? Until he revealed himself as her benefactor? She’s the only one that causes his brain to release Noradrenaline so LA can read those thoughts of his. Other people don’t do that? This is a stab in a dark for me. 😂

  8. The other thing that really bugs me is that there seems to be nothing about Jisoo’s mom? Does she even exist? Is she still living? I find it really odd that it’s her dad who insists on sending her on blind dates when it’s usually the prerogative of the mother to do the nagging? I just find it odd. But I am very far behind in episodes so maybe there’s been something revealed already since I last watched.

  9. Jisoo’s mom exists. In Ep 10, the dad (finally) mentions her getting excited bec she’s receiving a lot of calls for arranged dates with Jisoo. 😂🤦‍♀️ I forgot that blind dates or sogaeting is a kdrama trope.

  10. Morning!

What’s with those blind dates? 😄

Just finished rewatching episode 10. JaeIn finally remembered her conversation where LA said that his parents died in the apartment fire. Her shoe fell off when she tried to follow LA and that’s when she remembered. I thought the connection was there but I assumed wrong.

I thought the background when LA was leaning on his parents memorial tree looked the same as that read that he got from Sungmo, the one where his Mom says don’t hurt him because it will hurt me too.

LA found out that Hyung has been watching him and JaeIn and that he knew JaeIn before the fire happened.

The Rubik’s cube In Sungmo’s room was solved. This is why he told JaeIn that everything will be revealed soon and that her Dad is not the arsonist/murderer.

Noticed that no one was there at Sungmo ‘s Mom funeral hall compared to LA.

I think @nrllee is right about YSS having issues with how the building was made and so the fire and murder was done so it can be covered by that whole problem without pointing to YSS. There was a banner that said Yeonsong Apartment will be rebuilt in 2019.

I’m glad DaeBong was there to listen to LA.

Sorry for my rumblings 😬 Forgot to say that I used to play Chopin’s Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op. 9 No. 2 to the boys when their babies through that musical rotating thing that attaches to their crib. ☺️

  11. Rubik’s cube solved!! I saw it too.

He probably got her mom on a witness protection plan, instead of using the Dragon Hunt enterprise’s service.

Yes, YSS probably made building/fire code violations (but NOT the parking problem though if the residents of the apartment parked in clearly marked fire lanes) that resulted in 1) the smoke in the fire exit stairwells. That’s why he and Ahn couldn’t go down. 2) no sprinklers system?? 3) no fire extinguishers?? 4) the elevator cable snapped?? 5) smoke ventilation.

The dad is the fall guy.

I was going to write about this yesterday when I said I saw the connection. But had too much work to write anything much for the blog.

    Gotta run now.

    Have a great evening!

  12. Sungmo got the thin ring (that LA saw on his read) when he got back from the island. I gather he did meet his Mom.

Right! It’s all of the above. So the stalker Dad made sure that the fire will be blamed on JaeIn’s Dad by getting his flyers and jackets as evidence.

I’m going to sleep now. Have a nice day! 😁

  13. Yes, he already met his mom. He was on his way back from the island while she was on her way to island.

Let’s see how the story unfolds.

  14. I knew those sunflowers had a meaning i just couldnt put my hands on it. I really dont want them to kill Jisoos character since she is my favourite after LeeAhn. But im really scared they will. Honestly i hate seung mo for hiding the full truth from them. I know he wants to protect his mum but he is putting everyone else at risk. At least tell jisoo everything. Ep 10 was so hard to watch and im dreading what else the director has in store for us. But anyways thank you again for a eye opening review. I love reading these

Oh also during the scene where Lee Ahn is walking amongst the people with umbrellas. Most of the umbrellas were red and yellow. Do you think that could symbolise something or am i just overthinking 😅

  15. Yes, I think the umbrellas mean something but I’m not a “color specialist” so I’ll let the others figure out what yellow and red umbrellas mean.

I know yellow umbrella is often used in kdramas it’s a trope already.

  16. @sehrish
In terms of colors, red is a symbol of Lee Ahn and yellow is Jaein. In the drama they have been using that two colors to represent them

But what does it mean with LA walking amongst himself and Jaein while reading the terrible things people can do and shutting down himself again, I am not sure. Lol

  17. Also somehow I don’t think SM has met his mom yet. The way he got the ring – inside a plastic bag seems like it’s something his mom has left behind that was a storage. Almost like the front deck has kept it and gave it to SM.

And I agree, it’s probably something about YSS buildings issues. Though it gotta have a bigger issue behind because 4 of the people killed were from a murder, not from the building construction issue. They probably will explain more on why it’s such a big problem for YSS to pull so much resources to cover up later on.
