I was reading my friend mslee1107’s blog on Hwayugi’s Kakaotalk and she mentioned how ridiculously funny it was that OhGong was the only individual not included in the chatgroup. Yes, it’s also ironic when we stop to consider that the nexus of their connection – or the reason for their being acquainted with each other — is OG. Yet OG is now the excluded one.
Moreover, if we look at the endgame of this romcom, I think the Hong sisters are already laying the foundation here for one of the preconditions of SunMi’s death.
In Episode 2, SM told OG her bucket list. She said she would die willingly and would have no regrets if she could do the following three things:
1. eat with family
2. drink with a friend
3. go on a date with a boyfriend.
In the end, I can see her Kakao chatgroup growing into her extended family. In fact, we can consider the zombie as SM’s blood relative because her blood gave the zombie new life. And, already on New Year’s Eve, the whole Kakao group planned to dine together – en famille. Too bad SM was called away to the General Store so the opportunity was missed. lol. It would be funny if her first meal with her Kakao friends at OG’s and Mawang’s residence would also be her last.
Her drink with a friend will be a drink with her assistant, HanJoo. After all, Korean bosses usually have soju drinks with their employees at least once a weekend, but SM had never had one with HJ. HJ might just be her assistant all these years, but he’s also a loyal and trusted friend who feels unappreciated because of SM’s cold exterior.
Judging from SM’s penchant for movies, I wouldn’t be surprised if a movie date preceded by an ice cream date with OG would check off that last box on her bucket list. But the Hong sisters are also famous for creating memorable date scenes like this ambiguous phone date in “You Are Beautiful” (lol, she didn’t know they were dating!!) and the heartbreaking final date of “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.” I especially remember the final date in Gumiho because everything the couple attempted to do on their last date was closed until the following date, and “tomorrow” wasn’t an option for them because she was dying that night.
Here’s the phone date in case you don’t know what I’m talking about:
At any rate, I do like what the zombie Buja said to console OG. She’s a kind and perceptive girl, too, like her progenitor, SunMi.
She said that OG has a direct and special line to SM because of the Geumggango. If OG and SM already have this unique messaging system, despite their love connection being a fake and trumped-up one, then we can already imagine how powerful and universal their network will be when they truly begin to love each other.

That kakao group chat is really funny. But then his bracelet is more special. Yes.. I can’t wait when he finally falls in love with her. 😜 like you pointed out in your previous post hong sisters has a weird way when it comes to romance. The connection between otp always come first even if they don’t feel love yet. It’s like they are forced to be together. Then romance later.
OYS is really beautiful.
That’s a good point! They are forced to be together, and living in close quarters, they find that they match well. I feel sorry for SM because she’s the one REALLY affected emotionally while OG — he’s affected but physiologically and cerebrally and intellectually. This last episode, he endangered SM’s life and used her to teach Mawang a lesson on “frusration” just to avenge himself. Like, really?? Would a real lover use his beloved as a means of torture? He doesn’t love her at this point because he’s focused on the GGG. If I were SM, I’d release him in the end from the obligations of the GGG. If it’s really true love, then he’ll act on his free will to save her, to help her, and to love her. It cannot be true love as long as there’s captivity and forced enslavement involved.
