The problem with OhGong is that he doesn’t say what he actually means:
For instance, when he told the bookseller this:
that should have clued us in that his feelings hadn’t transferred over. Remember, with SunMi, he said this:
So, when he told SunMi this later when they met up,
we know that “pretty” had become the code word for love. He was telling SunMi that he no longer loved her so she’d leave him and go on live the normal life that she wanted. He was being that noble idiot that the Hong sisters are known to create in their kdramas.
The problem however was that she wanted a normal life with HIM in it. She just didn’t want a normal life for HER sake alone. She also wanted a normal life so he’d be set free from the Geumganggo and released from his bondage. She said so here.
She knew he suffered by being under her beck-and-call and under the servitude of Mawang.
So, it was noble idiocy going both ways. lol.
The other time in Episode 10 when OhGong didn’t express exactly what was on his mind was here:
Earlier in the office, he kept on asking her if she wanted to hold on him, to “cling and beg.” lol. He actually wanted to be stopped from leaving. What he most wanted to hear from her was “Gajimaaa!”
And here, when he says this
he meant,
Eat ddeokbokki! = Go to hell!
He was hurt so he was hurting her back. Kinda childish, but it was par for the course for our OhGong, who’s a newbie in this love business.
It’s nearly lunchtime here and I’m craving a small plate of ddeokbokki myself. I’ll see if I can update this with a pic of ddeokbokki later on.
I caught up with ep 11 of Hwayugi and now I can start reading your series posts one by one!
I might use the phrase ‘Eat ddeokbokki’ and no one will know what I actually meant!! 😀
Hey, you’re already one episode ahead of me. I have to get started here.
I keep on getting distracted by all your interesting posts.
BTW, did you notice? I added a sidebar for recent comments so it’s easier for me to reply to you, ladies. Thanks to nonski I found where the widgets were.
What did you think of Episode 11?
I liked Bu Ja’s story in ep 11. I feel she will play a big role in Oh Gong’s life/death. She is more pure and innocent than any character in this story. I read somewhere in comments that Oh Gong-Bu Ja have a romantic connection in many versions of the tale.
Ep 11 also has OG and SM getting scared of each other for different reasons. But this scene is handled surprisingly well. Especially when you find out why OG was getting worried.
Why was OG getting worried? Ah! Because she could kill him? I just finished the scene with the stars. Lol. @Karen is right. The star-gazing scene is interesting.
Yes, I suspected that OG and Buja would have a “thing” going on. It’s the way they tease each other. He likes to rile her up to get a reaction from her and she can’t help but rise to his bait. They’re more aware of each other, that way. How do you call it? Flirting? 😆
OG does it because he’s a naturally tease. He teases people like Mawang and Buja. But Buja will be inclined to develop a crush on him. Buja’s “unnie” had a crush on him since she was young and Buja carries her unnie’s blood. Lol.
