Bitch Talk: Your Top 10 Favorite Dramas

I must not be a bitch after all. I’ve to return my bitch membership card.

I was listing my ten favorite kdramas when I noticed a common feature. Most of my favorite kdramas are mellow.

In no particular order:

1. My Sassy Girl

-A sageuk romcom with JooWon and Oh Yeon Seo. I preferred the less abusive and more sympathetic Sassy Girl in this remake than the original dysfunctional Sassy Girl played by Jun Ji-Hyun.

2. Warm and Cozy

-A light-hearted romcom by the Hong sisters with Kang Sora and Yoo Yoon Suk.

3. Reply 1988

-A story of love with a normal girl and a Baduk god. We called it! We said that from Episode 1 there were already signs in place that the husband was going to Taek. lol.

4. Jugglers

Except for that scene with the perky bottom, there was nothing risqué about this office romance.

5. Because It’s My First Life

-Another gentle story

6. Sassy Girl Chung Hyang

When I watched it the first time, I thought it was makjang but I get it now…

7. 1% of Anything (the old version)

-Nobody can match Kang Dong Won’s boyish truculence in this kdrama. Nobody.

8. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

9. ?
10. ??

  1. 1. Answer Me 1997
First in the series and the only one I watched because the “see-sawing” between the husband was annoying as F to me. Although, we were pretty sure the younger brother was the husband, but still the doubts with every episode were unbearable. I did try to give the second installment a try but I was team Chilbongie and the writers did us dirty and stuck the heroine with the Ahjusshi looking Oppa.I mean how in the world can you NOT choose Chilbongie? I digress. I love the love story between the spunky crazy fangirl and her childhood smarty pants best friend in Answer Me 1997.

    2. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
MiHo and DaeWoong <3 Also, I had a slight crush on the second lead and he had an amazing bg theme.

    3. My Girl
My first kdrama that hooked me to them. It has it's faults but I have sentimental attachment to it. Also, how cute and young were the leads then. I loved how the Hong sisters made fun of LJG's girly looks. Thank God, he grew out of it.

    4. Faith
It had time travel and the geek in me loved it. But now this writer is in my hit list and I am unable to rewatch it. 🙁 *side eyes TKL*

I must be really picky. I can't think of anymore shows.

  2. Yes! I found the second lead in the Gumiho mesmerizing. He looked androgynous and he acted ambivalent. He did care for Gumiho in his own distant way although I was expecting him to fight for Gumiho more.

Have you watched Goong? Now there’s another second lead whom I liked more than the male lead/prince.

  3. I did too but MH and DW had enough drama without having a clingy second lead hero create problems with his obsession. I loved him because of that. He liked her but he let her follow her heart.

I did! I loved Yul Goon. See? I still remember his name. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the heroine fell for the hero when she had Yul besides her. The hero was a git. Also, not very good looking. LOL.

  4. @yourhighness and @packmule im sorry i love first lead than second one in goong drama. the perfect one wont fit reality :p or because i think the perfect one will makes me bored in the end. kekeke

i have lot of favorite drama.
    https://lovebangwon.wordpress.com/2017/12/23/korean-drama-favorites-by-bebe/

but there is few drama that i rewatch over more than 10 times maybe 20 times. lol

    – full house
    – goong
    -my love from the star
i almost memorize each line in this drama.lol

and i rewatch few drama more than 4 times:
    – sassy girl chunyang (oh god, i love the wedding song in their wedding!)
    – my girlfriend is gumiho ( min ah ya, na mani mani mani chua!)
    – a love to kill
    – iljimae
    – dream high
    – faith
    – nice guy
    – arang and magistrate
    – reply 1997, 1994, 1988
    – the winter and the wind blow (duh! hyekyo with in sung oppaaaaa! )
    – its okay thats love
    – moon lovers (all my ship sailing, from kim ha neul, lee jun ki, until the last one jieun marry jisoo.. what a perfect drama lol)
    – uncontrollably fond ( u know i really love this pairing! woobin is the best male lead for suzy, because his acting incredible amazing!)

  5. *ops i meant kang ha neul lol

  6. @yourhighness common drama we have My Girl

@packmule3 i like also warm and cozy, reply 1988 (i also ship her with taek) i watched 1% of something the new version with JSM and HSJ

@lovebangwon iljimae, faith, nice guy, its ok thats
    love

    But ill add some more…

Winter Sonata – BYJ and CJW

Full House – Rain and SHK

    Lovers – LSJ and KEJ

Worlds Within – HB and SHK

Secret – i know how makjang this one but i really like this with JS and HJE

Just Between Lovers- Junho and WJA

Fated To Love You – JH and JN

Hotel King – LDW and LDH

Reading my list i realized i like melo too with a pinch of makjang. Or complicated love story. And these dramas I watched them all at the least 2X😝😂 some 3X 😹

  7. @lovebangwon i also like scarlet heart andbwas torn between Haneul and junki😹
And like the prince JJH for YEH in Goong 👉this one i watched 3X

  8. who’s prince JJH? Is he Shin?

So you’re in Shin’s camp, too, eh?!! I guess it’s only me and YourHighness in Yul’s camp. sniff. The shipping war is already lost even before we started. lol.

  9. I only watch kdramas with my favourite actresses in it.

Song hye Kyo. Ham hye Joo. Oh Seon Yeo. Jang nara.

But. I am loving prison playbook so so much. And I don’t usually go for shows where the 90% of the show’s about males. But the humour is witty and funny. I totally enjoyed this show.

  10. I love your list hhh indeed you love mellow dramas i thought you find fantasy most intriguing but do they let you down?

I love slow paced, slice of life, relatable kind of dramas but since there aren’t many I will add the ones with crack factor too hhh

    1. Jewel in The Palace

It was my first kdrama and even after years I love everything about it and still has me longing for female centric dramas.

    2. What Happens To My Family

A healing drama. It’s safe to say this one made me warmer person especially towards my relatives.

    3. Reply 1988

Not only viewing but also discussing made it more memorable because I come to know what is true love to me.

    4. Secret Forest

This drama is like a blessing for critical viewers. It is hands down most compelling kdrama I’ve ever seen.

    5. Age of Youth

Story of my life literally. I miss my roommates.

    6. It’s Okay That’s Love

Refreshingly mature romance. All characters are flawed but noone is frustrating.

    7. Healer

A rare example of hidden identity trope done well.

    8. King2Hearts

Badass heroine comes to rescue. A legend.

    9. I Remember You

A bromance I will never forget hhh

    10. Page Turner

    Too short too beautiful.

  11. Oh yes! I Remember You. That’s because Jang Nara was in it. But that’s also the first time I saw park Bo Gum. Gosh, he was excellent in that show. His every facial expression. Killer. I also like Won Young Choi in that show. Eerie and good.

  12. 😍Reply 1988 was good times. 😍 If ever there’s going to be a new Reply kdrama, we can do it here. I’ll have to figure out how to change the post settings so you can also post gifs and pics in the comment box.

King2heart. Is that another LSG kdrama? To be quite frank with you, I don’t find him handsome -like Jo In Sung is handsome – but I do see the appeal. In Hwayugi, he has this slightly disreputable look on him that keeps you on your toes. I used to call it his “mischievous” side when he behaved like a monkey. But now that he’s more human, I’ll call it his devil-may-care attitude.

  13. @Karen Imo Bo Gum’s acting style is more suited for serious roles cuz he have emotional fortitude but he probably needs luck to find right project.

@packmule3 Yeah, it’s more like Ha Ji Won’s drama to me as I was not able get over how immature Lee Seung Gi’s character was on the first half hhh Later on he grew to be good king and husband tho. It has literally enemies to lovers trope and more serious take on war theme compared to DOTS. Second leads were also very likable but villain was disturbing.

LSG is good at portraying cheeky characters as he has mischievous glint in his eyes combined with a gentle smile. He doesn’t look too smug.

  14. Right, we were talking about Go Back Couple also Jang Nara’s drama over soompi. You should give it a try @packmule @karen it was really heartwarming.

Btw there are other brilliant shows but I don’t feel like rewatching. Prison Playbook, Misaeng, Dear My Friends, My Wife is Having Affair This Week and Signal. I heart all these talented directors.

  15. have you finished watching Ep 12? I finished Ep 11 15 minutes ago. ‘

Yes, based on the two (whopping number there!! lol) kdramas I’ve seen him in, I’ll agree with you. He does man-child roles very well. I don’t want to knee him in the groin when he acts all smug and superior.

I want to watch him in variety shows especially 2D1N. I dislike the loudness and crudeness of the roly-poly host (I forgot his name) in 2D1N Season 1, but I’ll tolerate him just to watch LSG. Where can I get 2D1N?

  16. Signal… that was good but no it doesn’t work when you rewatch it. Prison Playbook? lovebangwon has been telling me to watch it. 🙂 But really… where do YOU ladies get all the time to watch these kdramas? Do you stop time? Do you have 32 hours in a day? lol. It took me 12 hours just to finish Episode 11. I started at 9pm last night and conked out in the middle of the show. lol. Like a zombie.

  17. I’m exploring your blog, one article at a time.

We have some common dramas in your list. I like a lot of dramas but when it comes to trimming the list down to top 10, it gets difficult. Lols! My list are also the same as some listed above.

Current favorite is Prison Playbook. I love the wit and humor and everything else.

    Also on my list:
    Warm and Cozy
    King2Hearts
    Misaeng
    Gumiho
    Faith
You Who Came From The Stars
    Sassy Girl Chunyang
    Reply 1997
    Ojjakyo Brothers
    Page Turner
    Healer
    Jewel In The Palace
    Fated to Love You
Dream High (despite the amateur acting of idols, the drama managed to pull at my heartstrings)
    Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
    Pinocchio
    Shut Up Flower Boy Band
    Kill Me Heal Me
    Scent of A Woman
Bu Bu Jin Xin (Scarlet Heart) – Chinese and the reason why I never liked the K-version, I can’t help but compare just got me disappointed with the K-version.
    Sorry the list doubled.

About watching 1N2D, try it online at dramacooldotes and they have options for download.

Time to watch all of these dramas? No time actually, just cut off on my sleeping time, hahaha!

  18. You cut off your sleeping time?? You’re fierce — and fearless!

I tried doing that. But nowadays if I nod off while watching kdrama in bed, my ipad will drop on my nose. hahaha. I’ve weak wrists.

Pinocchio. I’ve to finish Pinocchio. I like it the pacing but got distracted when I left the country and couldn’t access dramafever. Do you know that there are market stalls in some Asian cities (hahaha. am not telling.) that sell boot-legged DVDs of kdramas? I’m shocked I tell you. Shocked!!!

  19. @mslee im not into makjang like secret drama, but i love genre melodrama or romance drama the most!
moon lovers is blessing lol. i dont need to argue which one is haesoo love. first love kang haneul, last love lee jun ki, and her last moment she spend with jisoo as his wife.hahaha.

in the past ju ji hoon was one of famous actor, and his acting was incredible amazing! he was my top list actor beside rain, gong yoo, cha tae hyun and lee byung hun.

@packmule i watch it during prison playbook on going in korea. only 2 ep/ week. lol

  20. hahaha. You marathon-ed it too!

Jun Ji Hoon is a great kisser. A+
    I remembered THAT, too. 🙂

Almost done with Hwayugi Episode 12.

  21. I’m watching it while it’s airing. The most two shows for a week. The rest if they have good reviews I keep them for drought. But it was hard to follow Prison Playbook. Viki is convenient to me. You can keep watching where you left. Idk if it’s same for Netflix.

  22. I don’t really have a top 10 favorites anymore, just shows that I wish I could watch for the first time again. Clearly I love them still but you can’t get the same feels the second, third, eighth time around.

That list in no particular order:

    1. Reply 1988
    2. Warm & Cozy
    3. Go Back Couple
    4. Faith
    5. Reply 1997
    6. King2Hearts
    7. City Hunter

I stuck to Korea or the list would be longer. lol

  23. Where’s DotS? 😀

  24. Onlysb, been a huge fan of Jang nara, yes I’ve seen go back couple. Didn’t like the male lead initially but he slowly grew on me.

As for park bo gum, I forgot to add that much as I like him, I’m Glad that he forewent the role of Son oh gong. Can’t imagine him being cheeky and doing a better job than Lee Seung Gi.

  25. @packmule3 Conspicuously absent. :p

I lost my taste for it somewhere around the song-song wedding. Probably because I was getting tagged all the time about wedding news even though I couldn’t care less about real life ships. I just care about the show couples!

I did however, forget to put Healer on that list. That needs to be there too.

  26. @karen This is how I convinced myself regarding male lead in GBC. Since their relationship turned toxic Jin Joo could see and remember nothing but hurtful things about him. Only after the misunderstanding was solved she was able to see his sincerity.

I hope it’s a good sign too cuz I want him to act in a drama he can gain strength from.

@phikylz eh, that’s not good. After R88 I learned my lesson not to let shippers ruin the good feelings I have towards a drama or actor/ress.

  27. Me. After R88, I learned my lesson that stupid obsessive fangirls DO exist in dramaland. I thought they were only like chupacabra, Yetis and Loch Ness monsters… fictional beasts. But yikes, they do exist and…. they’ve got rabies!

  28. Healer!! That’s another show I’ve been meaning to watch. I watched a few episodes then an avalanche of work buried me. But the time I was able to dig my way out, it was all over. I remember the scene when he hid under her bed. I think that’s where I stopped.

  29. @packmule3 Well, my online moniker is an accurate descriptor for my personality so part of it was being so over saturated with DotS and Song-Song stuff that I just got sick of it. And part of it is I’m just fickle with my drama loves. 😆 Which is part of the reason my list is so small. I’ll love a drama at first and then a month or two later, be so bored I can’t finish an ep without changing the show.

Healer is one of my favorites! You should definitely finish it…. and I should definitely finish Signal… one of these days.

  30. @packmule3 hhh, fun times indeed I thought they only existed on sns or media reports but all discussion forums turned toxic lately.

@phikylz right, I forgot how big Dots fandom was. I think it’s good to be fickle with dramas.

  31. The marriage of Song-Song couple actually made the work harder for us, @phikyl and @onlysb, to convince shippers/fangirls NOT to conflate the real and reel lives of the leading actors and NOT to invade the privacy of these actors.
I wonder who their next “dream couple” will be. I don’t think the couple from that recently concluded Robot show is considered an “item.” The girl doesn’t match Yoo SeonHo’s stature. Lol. The Hwayugi couple, Lee Seunggi and Oh Yeon Seo, too isn’t a match (thank heavens!). Hmmm. What about that couple from Just Between Lovers? I’d be surprised though.

  32. @packmule3 Latest I know was from Father is Strange. Jung So Min from Because This is Our First Life. Do you have a post on that drama btw I didn’t see any?
I think every mainstream show will be naturally followed by shippers. I mean shipping>>>sanity kind of shippers are everywhere so I got used to it. I would like to stop them from fighting with each other tho it’s so unnecessary.

  33. Oh, right! Hottest dream couple is Do Bong Soon OTP, isn’t it?

  34. I think that’s one benefit of people just analyzing the kdrama – the “crushing” on the actual actor/actress and the interest in their private lives are diminished because our focus is on the movement of the plot and the development of the story, rather than nonstop spazzing on the facial features or the hands (!!!) of the actors.

  35. hahaha. Is this the Strong Woman couple or the Weight-Lifting couple? I get them confused.

The Strong Woman couple? That’s NOT gonna happen. Park Hyun Sik is cute; I’ll have to admit that. But he’s….so so puppy-ish. If I were the noona (and Park Bo

I think I only have one post on BTIMFL. I started this blog too late. Why? You want to rewatch it? I can post something too if you want. But I need an “inspiration” or something to focus on or to clarify.

  36. @packmule3 I used to watch dramas without knowing any of actors names for the longest time that’s why it’s easier for me. But since I have biases now I choose to play it safe with other fans or shippers. For that I go along with whatever actors say about themselves or their costars. As far as I know Park Bo Young clarified rumors so I just believe her.

Actually I’ve seen some of your posts on soompi forum I was just curious about your final thoughts hehe there is no need for separate post.

  37. I think I only posted one time on soompi on BTIMFL. I was flying back and forth and I couldn’t find time to post consistently.

Park Bo Young seems like a sweetheart but I like Baek Jin Hee’s aegyo better though. The best way to describe their differences in my eyes is: I consider BJH’s appearance as more like City Mouse, and PBY looks like Country Mouse.

The problem with these so-called “clarifications” is that there exist people like the Song-Song couple who would deny reports, only to come out later on and say, “yeaah… we lied.” But why do fans have to compel people to issue clarifications when their private lives are really none of the our business? If PBY is dating HyungSik, then good for them. If she isn’t dating PHS, then good for them, too. My interest in them and their love life ends with the finale in Episode 16.

Take for instance Hwayugi. I can tell you now that there’s already a couple forum for LSG and OYS, even though they’re such an unlikely couple like ME and KWANGSOO, that Running Man tall guy/giraffe. lol. Fans confuse the scripted interaction with their real life relationship.

  38. Lol like I said if drama is popular shippers will be born no matter what. K ent feeding them with bts releases and interviews. So they will buy dvd and vote for their otp. Since it’s part of business most of the celebrities just roll with it. They clarify rumors if it’s needed. Even if it’s a lie it still means they’re saying no to unwanted attention that’s why it’s safe to treat it as fact for time being. For regular fans it’s pointless to reason with shippers we can only pray that they won’t cause any inconvenience for anyone hhh

I’ve seen BJH in historical dramas only so I can’t tell. Well aegyo is cringey unless you’re naturally lovely like PBY, GHJ

  39. I was asked before in soompi what I would do if I meant XY dating XX in a restaurant? Would I take pictures? Ask for autographs? I said nooo.

But I would either a) pay for their meal or b) send over a bottle of champagne. I wouldn’t give my name, of course, and just order their waiter to tell the happy couple that it was complimentary. hahaha.
