During U.S. presidential debates, people have an intense desire to gauge who won immediately right after the debate. Of course, quick polls aren’t predictive of the ultimate winner of the elections. Just look at Hillary Clinton who was the Main Lead on ALL polls ALL the way till the end of Election Day. lol. Frankly, that’s the main reason I eschew the notion of Dr. Ye as the presumptive Main Lead. I’ve learned my lesson from the last presidential election that underdogs have a way of winning despite the flaws and naysayers. It’s best to keep an open mind.
As of Episode 7, it’s a toss-up. To me, it all depends on how Dr. Ye responds to MinHo’s revelation that he and BoYoung had a history together. However, Dr. Ye is in a bad spot. I’ve pointed this out in my earlier post: Poem a Day: Waiting for the Subs.
I said fangirls love to overlook the fact that Dr. Ye said this:
So, is he going to eat his words now? If he goes out on a date with BoYoung, I would like to see him eat crow. Humble pie is too bland for him. He had been so arrogant in telling Dr. Kim not to pester him anymore on this issue that he deserves to be taken down several pegs.
But Dr. Ye gained several points in this episode for the following:
1. he effectively shut up Dr. Park without mentioning BoYoung’s name. To come to her public defense would only raise speculation among the gossip-y coworkers of his personal interest in her.
2. he boosted her confidence.
BY: Still, I feel embarrassed thinking about how I acted in front of you today. I have not idea what made me think someone could fall for me at first sight.
Ye: Why? When I heard that I believed it. I didn’t question it one bit. Because you’re an attractive person in anyone’s eyes. So lift your head up high and don’t feel embarrassed. I’ll see you tomorrow.
BY: What? An attractive person in anyone’s eyes? Then, am I an attractive person in Dr. Ye’s eyes too?
However, there’s a caveat here.
If Dr. Ye sticks to his guns and remains “inflexible” about NOT being interested in dating anybody who’s in the same medical field and hospital as his, then he should have been more careful with his encouraging words here. He definitely gave the impression that HE found her attractive.
To me, however, the reasons I’m not inclined to believe that he’s romantically interested in her are twofold.
First, he found her bothersome earlier that day when she was blabbering about NOT wanting to date the Dubai man.
He wasn’t CONCERNED, and he regarded it as a STAFFING issue.
MinHo was 100% correct here. If Dr. Ye was interested in her, he should have been more concerned about the Dubai guy and gotten involved in her case instead of referring it to their Chief, Dr. Yang, to deal with.
After all, THAT is what Minho DID here. He STEPPED up to dissuade her about dating both the Dubai Man and Dr. Ye. The problem with MinHo however is that he was crude. He told BoYoung that Dr. Ye was too busy eating beef stew to bother with her. She lost to “beef stew.” lol. Really? Is she chopped liver then?
Second. The reason I’m saying that Dr. Ye isn’t romantically attached to BoYoung is because he did NOT stick around her after he’d given her his advice to lift her head up and don’t be embarrassed. He promptly left her — as if his mission was delivered and accomplished.
3. he arranged a trip to her favorite poet’s place, the Yoon Dong Joo’s museum.
I must admit that I liked Dr Ye for this thoughtful gesture.
It’s something my husband does for me. He surprises me with tickets to exhibits and he accompanies me to museums.
The only problem with this museum visit is I don’t think Dr. Ye considered it a “date” for just the two of them. It wasn’t a “romantic” interlude. It was more a side trip on the way to the dinner which he was giving as a payment for her and MinHo’s help. Remember? BoYoung didn’t want to be paid monetarily, so he paid in kind.
This is the same as the dinner he treated her out to after she volunteered to help at his lecture. I suspect that given Dr. Ye’s scrupulous and rigid nature, he doesn’t like owing favors. He wants to repay them right away so there’s no obligation dangling over him.
4. he didn’t laugh at her eccentricities. He found something to admire in her body gags and her propensity to tears. Despite MinHo’s attempt to discredit her and to embarrass her with the pictures of her body gags and the horror stories of her crying at the most inopportune moments, he found her endearing.
Given all these four great actions of Dr. Ye, why am I not declaring him the “WINNER” of last night’s episode then? Why is it still a toss-up?
It’s because he isn’t the CRICKET mentioned in the title. I know that when BoYoung read the poem, “Cricket and I,” she was thinking of her conversation on the bench with Dr. Ye. But Dr. Ye isn’t the cricket in the episode. It’s MinHo.
I’ll have to explain tomorrow because I’m sleepy now. Time to get some beauty sleep.
Edited to add the explanations on the crickets and the poem.
I really agrees with your views and opinions. It is endearing to read that you are pro-Minho or should I say not entirely in the Ye Line. Some forums /sites I have been to is more incline to Dr. Ye so I was so happy to discover this site. Keep it up.
really agree… typo error!
I love that you made flash poll waa. But i gotta admit im pissed off with what minho did talked about their past with ye jaewook sigh but im sure that scene definitely to make dr ye realized if he loves boyoung or not? Btw okay so excited to read about that cricket !
😂 that’s why MinHo is the cricket! 🛎🛎🛎Ding! Ding! Ding! Because like a cricket, he chirped the secret out. Or to be scientifically correct, he stridulated.
He was to suppose to keep it a secret just like the poem but it’s the nature of crickets to chirp, especially the MALE cricket when it’s trying to call its mate. That’s what MinHo did. He was calling out to her.
And you know what else? When he put his arm around her shoulder? 😂 She actually did it first. BoYoung jumped up and almost broke his neck, remember? Lol. That’s what female crickets do. They mount on the male crickets. 😂🤣😂
Welcome to the animal kingdom. First she was 🐌 snail bride. Now she’s cricket bride. 😈
Hmmmm… 🤔Am I pro-MinHo? 😏 Let’s just say I’m a contrarian. I oppose the majority and I oppose bullshit.
MinHo behaved like an ass in this episode but the story is still centered around him and Boyoung so what can I do? 🤷♀️(Shrugs)
Even this backstory of Defcon… some people on twitter were questioning the relevance. Lol. I see Defcon as microcosm (hahaha. It’s hard to see big Defcon as a MICROcosm of anything but he is in this kdrama.) of the events happening to Boyoung, MinHo and Dr Ye.
For instance in this episode, Defcon was beating himself up on not being able to say the words WHEN he should have. He missed his opportunity because he was intimidated, startled, caught off guard, and bamboozled.
Welll, we can’t say that the same thing happened to MinHo, can we now? Minho was seething with frustration just like Defcon because he was bottling up his jealousy. But at the end of the day (it was nighttime, lol), he took action.
He was pro-active. True. He was a jerk when he showed the pics and recounted the birthday story and the wedding story. But that was him being desperate. He was throwing stones, no BOULDERS, to derail Boyoung’s plans. But the boulders just rolled back on him (ever heard of Sisyphus? 😂) and flattened him. So he hurt his case and he bolstered Boyoung’s. It’s actually ironically hilarious. I was waiting for him to do more…
