MinHo again moves half a centimeter.
Look: ONE thing MinHo shippers have to ASK themselves at the end of every episode is this: WHAT has the other guy done to “earn” her love?
In this episode, Dr Ye couldn’t even open himself up to her. That’s the simplest thing, really, when beginning a relationship. Sharing oneself or opening yourself up.
But if you rewatch that touching scene in the cafe, it was a one-sided conversation. He only said two things to her: “You said you had something to say,” and “That’s okay.” He’s still emotionally closed-off which presents a serious problem to someone as empathic as Boyoung. In fact, this whole conversation in the cafe wouldn’t have been necessary, if Dr Ye had ONLY disclosed to her what his plans were. He was given two opportunities to explain himself.
- At the end of the day, Dr. Ye did zilch. For three episodes, he dithered. And each episode he dithered, MinHo is going move up. #sorrynotsorry, Dr Ye. MinHo is doing all the the heavy lifting.
ONE thing however that I do MONITOR is whether the plot has veered away from the Reply 1988 storyline.
- As long as A Poem a Day resembles Reply 1988, it’s going to be MinHo as endgame. I believe that this show is correcting JH’s failed romance with Deoksun. MinHo is JH.
Meanwhile, let’s look for hints. Thanks to our discussion on costume, we found one earlier. Thanks, Paperclip!
Apple = sagwa in Korean. But sagwa also means “sorry” or “to apologize.”
But pears= bae in Korean. Bae can also mean belly — and ship. A Big Ship. (Thanks, Paperclip!)
Her hideous jacket is her apology to shippers, to the Ye LINERS. You know what a liner is, right? A big ship.
That fantasy of hers, including this one
are all inside jokes. (Thanks again, Paperclip.) In the Hollywood movie, Lala Land, the two dancers split up and didn’t get together at the end of the movie because, according to the director, that kind of Happy Ending only happened in the “fantasy world” — and that was exactly what BoYoung was doing. She was fantasizing about a fantasy world. (Oooh. That’s meta!)
Like in Reply 1988, the director and the writer of APaD sprinkled these inside jokes in the romcom so when you rewatch these episodes at the end of the show, you’ll find and understand the “Easter eggs” or “hidden messages” that they left for us to enjoy.
I’ll have to edit this tomorrow and add more things. I’ve been dropping my iPhone on my precious nose; that’s how sleepy I am. Good night!
Wahhh… I have so many conflicting thoughts after watching ep 11.
Firstly, I still have hopes for MH because the writer placed him in the dorm to be near BY. In all my kdrama watching years (15 plus yrs, tyvm), cohabitation is always one of the main factor to make the OTP work. I’m really holding on to this detail the most. Why would the writer place MH to a dorm when he has a perfectly good apartment and car. He didn’t really care for his internship so why should it matter if he’s lways late. It is to be near the female lead. Why didn’t the writer do this to Dr. Ye? They didn’t give Dr. Ye the opportunity to become closer to BY. Not professionally nor in terms of residence. No I’m not convince he’s inlove with her nor is she seriously inlove with him.
They are seriously making it seem like Dr. Ye is the OTP, but why does BY always open her thoughts to MH. Finding a book that’s out of print is so touching especially since BY didn’t ask him to find it for her. The episode is all about timing and being decisive that’s why they put Mr. Decisive in this episode. HSJ got so many punches in against Defcon because he is resolute in punching Defcon who kept changing his mind if he should attack or not.
I think this episode cements your theory that R88 and APAD is connected.
I feel conflicted because of the preview. I feel like MH is talking about his mom when he said something about her liking the buffet. Remember MH is talking to his mother this episode. I guess it’s related to that. I’m guessing Dr. Ye did not find BY in the bus stop, thus was unable to confess that time because they were wearing something different when he confessed. So I really hope MH confessed first, because this is all about timing.
I dunno what I’ll do if MH loses. Gosh. I’ll probably drop this show till my bitterness wears off. Lol.
SPOILER ALERT
Dr ye & boyoung is dating & kissed ! group hug team minho 😭💕💕
😂😂 I envy this: “I’ll probably drop this show till my bitterness wears off.”
Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the luxury of quitting the show and simply waiting for the end because some of YOU ladies (nearsea??) are relying on me to see this thing through.
The preview certainly did a number on the Minho-Boyoung fans but we have four more episodes. In R88, DS got depressed when she thought nobody loved her. The JH line was being developed at that time but bec of a misunderstanding or something, it didn’t pan out.
To console her, her friend (the one with glasses) asked her who did she really. And she smiled and said Taec. She looked up and Taec arrived with pizzas.
If I were to write this APAD (and I’m not a writer), I’d make the audience think it’s Ye and Boyoung till the end. Yes, I’d make him confessed to her but I’d delay her answer till the end and we get a flashback.
But why did she change locations? She wasn’t where Ye saw her waiting for the bus. And why was she waiting for the bus, instead of being dropped off at her dorm?
Okay, that’s it!
Bow down. MinHo must be planning their wedding party, that’s why he was doing the buffet. 😂😍
Group Hug MH-BY shippers
The writer suddenly, out of character, made Dr. Ye cute and silly inlove. Does that make sense? Was he like that with his ex too?
I feel like I’m in the Upside Down in Stranger things. Somebody pinch me.
4 more episodes. I’ll hang on to MH ship because nothing makes a man more valuable than he goes out of his way to find you your favorite book.
LOL haha PM3 go ahead and write [if you want] the whole analysis on the basis of Dr. Ye, I think I am out. 😂
Yes they are kissing and all, and it creeps me out. :S I don’t know why I’m sorry haha. I can kind of see how the writer’s mind is working, and till now [ I mean until ep 12] they tried to lure the Minho-supporters for rating since the show has been doing so poorly.
I didn’t want to say this until now, but since the ending is quite clear to me, I’m gonna compare this show to the writer’s previous one ‘Drinking solo’, male lead, rude and arrogant, isn’t good with human company, famous teacher in a teaching institute, [ can you see the similarity with Dr.Ye? Wounded too maybe] and the female lead, poor, ridiculed and mocked on a regular basis, substitute teacher [almost the same as bo young, who’s a temporary therapist?], and then they fall in ~~Love and everything changes. There was also another guy,[younger, who always hangs out with other 2 friends, much like how min ho hangs out with NW and JY] who fell for the female lead. But at least unlike this one, they didn’t try to puzzle the audience with the reply-esque ‘fight over the girl’.
They have this similar prototype, just the context is different. Lol. I’m really sorry for trying to make you see the story from min ho’s side. Biane! 🙁
But we know it would have been better if they tried to do something new.
At least Reply’88 was unique. You know APAD isn’t even comparable with Reply. That’s like insulting Reply’s writer’s excellent ability to see beyond the conventional storytelling. People still don’t get why Taek got the girl so the complexity of the whole story is beyond their perception.
see the story from min ho’s side.
Oh well. I did try hard, didn’t I? And that’s because I ~wuv~ you.
I’d do an analysis on Dr. Ye, but nope, he’s a clichéd character. I like doing the “minority” ship.
Group hug, you all!

Yeah so out of his character right? Like they did a 180-degree turn to his total personality. But he’s still apathetic and can’t empathize with people. It’s really odd.
Also what irked me was Bo Young saying thanks to him when he asked her to give him another chance. Do you give thanks to someone if they want to go out with you? It’s like he granted her the permission of dating.
:/ The writer is really following her fantasy here.

😂😂 Hahaha. Min Ho is completely clueless about what’s happening. I can’t wait to have second-hand embarrassment for him when he’s out to confess to her.
What the heck?
MinHo babe, you were just played for a fool. The poem should have clued you in. You’re the BIGGER fool for running after her. If I were your mom, I’d send you to missionary work in some developing country. Nothing like work to forget a bad romance. Speaking from experience…
😀
Oh well. I did try hard, didn’t I? And that’s because I ~wuv~ you.

Awww, and I wuv you! <3 💓💓
Haha you totally did. And I'm ahmazed by your creativity! There is no shortage of ideas when it comes to you, really.
I know right. I'm on the minority ship too. But seriously kdrama writers need to brush up their skills.
What the heck?

LOL, haha, yeah he was hit [?] by a motorcycle on his way to confessing to her. The writer is so cruel! Way to stop a lover haha.

“Nothing like work to forget a bad romance. Speaking from experience”…
So true.
You owe me one. When I call YOU, you better come of your hiding place.
Awww shucks!!! That flash poll needle tipped all the way to the other side to “Kiss” in EP 12. And I am certain it’s probably going to stay there.
Like @Nearsea I had my apprehensions about this going the way drinking solo, with the jerk lead getting the girl and the puppy second lead was left literally solo at the end. That they wouldn’t possibly do that twice right!
SighsX1000.
He was hit by a motorcycle?
Okay. One character was driving recklessly in the streets of Seoul, and the one running was hit by a motorcycle.
Whatever, scriptwriter! Give me your script, I need something to wipe my horse’s ass with. hahaha
I’m not sighing.
I’m spitting.
ptui. ptui. ptui, ptui. ptui. ptui.
I’m so angry I could spit. The writer’s answer to taking out MinHo out of the game was a cheap motorcycle. It’s not even a DEUS ex machina. It’s probably just a moped delivering fried chicken. hahahaha.
Waaait. Really? The puppy second lead was left solo?
When did you find out that the jerk won the girl? In the middle half?
Hmmm…I don’t see this script getting an okay from the producers if it’s just the a rehash of the first one. Not with tvN. They don’t recycle scripts, especially if it’s from the same writer. Hmmm…
unless they think it’s a mash-up of R88 and Drinking Solo.
Isn’t the 2nd lead for this drama supposedly the same actor as the 2nd lead in drinking solo? Gongmyung right? But he declined this one.
That hit by motorcycle part idk what to say sigh the writer trying hard to follow reply 1988 lol so funny
“I’ll hang on to MH ship because nothing makes a man more valuable than he goes out of his way to find you your favorite book.”
I know, right? Ever since that Beauty and the Beast, I think offering books to your loved one became the epitome of romance to many girls. For me, it was sticking my hand in the Mouth of Truth (Bocca dela Verita) in Rome – after Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. Every time we visit Rome, I feel like I’ve to stick my hand in there. And of course, throwing coins in the fountain. Sighhh… Those were the days of GOOD romance.
Oh and also that “thank you” part lol boyoung what the heck why do we need to say thank you like that when people confess to us
That motorcycle (I haven’t seen the episode yet) accident is a cheap trick.
Didn’t DefCon have a better “accident”? lol.
She said “thank you” in the same way she says “Pardon” to him all the name.
Because he’s “above” her. Her “senior” and her “superior” in every way.
I think that’s a sexist and intolerable message to send to young girls nowadays… (and I’m not even a femi-nazi.) WE should fall in love with the “superior” but wounded male.
Puke-able notion.
“LOL, haha, yeah he was hit [?] by a motorcycle on his way to confessing to her. The writer is so cruel! Way to stop a lover haha.”
I know right. Poor puppy. What happened to the book then? Did it reach BY?
I hope the writer is not pressured by the shipping wars when he did that to MH. I’ve come to like his character for his thoughtful actions. I hate it when a flat character suddenly made a 180° turn to silly land because of love. That’s what I like about R88. Taek didn’t become mushy and it was still the same type of relationship with DS but with more passion because they didn’t have to hold back. His personality did not change. I’m guessing that how they were able to convince the elders that nothing has changed/they were not in a relationship.
And now, BY is suddenly the sane one… No, we are the foolish ones. They clearly stated that Dr. Ye is the main lead but MH got us in hook and line. Btw, I watched Drinking Solo and it was okay but a bit boring in parts.
I can’t reply properly right now since my head isn’t working, 😀 But nodding to every single comment of yours PM3.
And of course I will be regular from now on, you’re not going to complain. 😀
And yeah paperclip, this one is totally the rehash of drinking solo.
