Bitch Talk: November Dramas to Skip

@sansukini said that she doesn’t have anything slated in her watchlist for Monday-Tuesday right now except Fox Bride Star after 100 Days My Prince is over this week.

There’s the Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter to take the 100 Days My Prince’s spot but I think I’m skipping this one. It’s rehashing the husband guessing game made popular by the Reply series.

According to Asianwiki, the heroine waits for almost seven centuries for her former husband to reincarnate. However, to her dismay, she encounters two men and she can’t tell which one of them is her previous husband.

After enduring the trolling of the baby’s father in 100 Days My Prince, I doubt that I can stand a round of husband-hunt.

Besides I would have to agree with Johnny Depp on this one. He’s thought to have quipped, “If you love two people at the same time, choose the second. Because if you really loved the first one, you wouldn’t have fallen for the second.”

I’m also skipping Boyfriend. As much as I like Park Bo Gum, I’m prejudiced against noona romances. I think the discrepancies in maturity level, income (the older woman would be richer, of course), and biological clocks are too real of a problem in any May-December matches.  I skipped Descendants of the Sun because I couldn’t cotton to the Song-Song pairing. I don’t care if they dated and married in real life but I have my kdrama standards.

When Time Stopped is another kdrama I’m passing up because Kim Hyun-joong is the lead actor. lol. If he and Chae SooBin played opposite each other, I’d watch their show. /sarc

I might give Yoon Eun Hye’s drama Love Watch a shot for old times’ sake. Her Goong was one of the first kdramas I watch, and I think of The Vineyard Man when I visit wineries. But I don’t think I’ll last longer than two weeks.

My November calendar is looking like a flop right now. Sigh.

  1. I dropped DOTS (yes audible gasps from advocates of Song-Song) somewhere in the middle. It suffered the same fate as Mr Sunshine for me (same producers?). Both dramas got swallowed up by the spectacle for me. I just felt like they were both trying to be overly grandiose. It dwarfed the acting and story. So I lost interest. Also DOTS had medical stuff in it and being medically inclined I cannot help but laugh out loud at inappropriate places when they have those scenes because they were ludicrous.

I am still watching Terius half heartedly. Not so much for the plot but because of the cute twins/SoJiSub scenes. The spy elements have holes galore and I sort of just want it to end already and I am only midway through.

I don’t think I will pick up new dramas. Thinking of watching Bok So’s back with Yoo SeungHo in it in Dec. No to Boyfriend…Noona romance is just no. Hubby will be happy to have me back relating to real people as Christmas rolls around instead of chatting to faceless forum buddies 😳.

So sorry no recommendations from my end.

  2. Grandiose!! That’s the word I was looking for with Mr Sunshine! 😂 The panoramic scenes, the casting of the old Lee Santa with a young actress, the stilted conversation and the film budget warned me that this writer was planning an EPIC narrative ala Gone With the Wind.

    No! 🙄😈

Then with DOTS, I was looking at it from the military side. It was that scene early in Ep 2 when Song Jungki (? Is that his name?) and some American soldier (I’m assuming he was American bec he was depicted as an a-hole 😂) fought during their training ops. And I thought nope. Not gonna happen. Nice try, show. 😆 I dropped it then.

  3. I’m not a fan of noona romance either, but if the age gap is not that wide, then why not. But I’m skipping Boyfriend too. Thinking that PBG’s female lead is his friend’s wife is just too uncomfortable for me.

I have Mama Fairy and Love Watch on my to watch list. The premise of Mama Fairy is intriguing for me. And Love Watch is Yoon Eun Hye and Chun Jun Myung. Another contract relationship and I have a feeling it will be like Lie To Me, but heck! I love the actors and reading that CJM was almost the male lead for Coffee Prince opposite YEH makes it more appealing for me for what could have been. (I love GY and YEH in Coffee Prince and was one of the first kdramas I’ve seen, and have seen for the hundred times, it never gets old for me).

I’m also looking forward to Clean with Passion for Now, and So, I Married an Anti-Fan. I have seen the Chinese/Taiwanese version with Exo’s Chanyeol and I was not impressed, but again, it’s Choi Tae Joon’s first leading man role and I’m curious how they would do it in a korean-drama way.

  4. Btw, Have you seen Heart to Heart? It’s a drama with Chun Jung Myung and Choi Kang Hee. If you haven’t yet, I strongly recommend it. I’m not sure if was very popular when it was showing but the drama and the comedy is really good.

The synopsis: Cha Hong Do suffers from social phobia and has a problem with severe blushing. She does have a strong sense of curiosity and learns from books and the internet. One day, her grandmother, Cha Hong Do’s only contact with the outside world, dies. She then begins doing housework as a maid, but disguises herself as an elderly woman. Through an incident, she meets a psychiatrist, Ko Yi Seok.

So basically, they both have phobias. The girl is very shy and aloof, and blushes profusely, has phobia with people looking at her, so she disguises herself in order to live/work. The guy is a famous shrink who has problems listening to his clients but found that he is calm when the girl is around, and so, in exchange for counselling the girl, the girl needs to work for him. So they are healing each other in the process.

  5. Yes! I was looking for that Anti-Fan. Do you recommend the original — or is this the Chanyeol version you mentioned?

The Mama Fairy did intrigue me but nope. Not touching that. Too angsty with all the guessing game and the fanwars. 😀

  6. Thanks for the rec. I’ll look for it when I get home. 😀

  7. The Chanyeol version is the first. That movie is horrible. I’d stay away from it if I were u. The actors are so dry. The female is annoying. I didn’t know who Chanyeol is at the time, so I watched it unbiasedly.

  8. Well, time to watch Are You Human Too? 😈😁

  9. O haha…isn’t Chanyeol one of the EXO members? Like Do KyungSoo? Thus far from that pop group, only DKS has serious acting chops. I vaguely recall watching a drama (Rich Man) with SuHo (another EXO member) and I wasn’t impressed with him either. I only know EXO on a cursory basis (and only recently) because of it’s tie ins with DKS. He is definitely on my shortlist of actors to watch for in future dramas.

  10. pwahahahaha.
    Very persistent. A+ in Persistence.
What are you watching now? Are you going to watch this Mama Fairy kdrama?

  11. I tried to watch Rich Man because I liked the original Japanese version. But after the first 15? 20? minutes, I knew the lead actor there was going to be a dud. The Japanese actor nailed that character and it was going to be hard for this EXO kid to measure up. But that opening scene exasperated me because that EXO kid had NO presence. I couldn’t tell if he was the main character, the secondary character or AN EXTRA with a speaking part. lol.
I did find the actress cute.
It’s different with KyungSoo Do. After I watched the movie, I wasn’t so sure if he was the supporting character or the other guy was. lol.

  12. I will probably watch Mama Fairy. Terius isn’t holding my interest. I just want it to end already.

Yes to SuHo (EXO) having no presence at all in Rich Man… I watched for the female actress but gave up after a few episodes… she couldn’t carry it to the end for me coz SuHo was just too bland.

Yes to persistence in fangirling DKS… I only made these links after watching 100DMP with him in it. When I found out he was an idol (and a massive one at that), I wondered what it was that set him apart from all the other idols, hence my research. He was an anomaly and as a scientist, anomalies are like diamonds, we seek them out, study them in depth, sign them up for medical experiments (😂) and try to work out why they are different. And thus far my scientific brain has been more than satisfied as I fit pieces of the puzzle together to formulate a profile. Yes to following his future dramas. Although I think EXO may all have to enlist soon so I will savor his presence in the entertainment world for as long as I can till he disappears for 2 years. I am glad he’s made inroads into acting. His future post military is set…not sure about the other members.

  13. Is the persistence meant for me? 😁😁😁
Well, I liked Human, warts and all…. and guess what I’m watching now? Dum dum dum… The Third Charm 😊 Though it is a coincidence, I swear 😁
I love Charm, though I’m probably one of the 10 people watching it… and one of the 3 who don’t think that the heroine is a bi@tch…

I also watch 12 Nights and sitcomy Oh My Grandma… and I’m trying to catch up with Prince… but RL is way too busy…

Forgot nightcapy Beauty Inside and psychopatic Seo In Gook…

I’m definitely going to check Fairy, I like the actors… and the premise…

  14. Also watching Third Charm here. The last ep kinda pissed me off. She’s suddenly married and divorced… and had a dead kid? But I’m wondering whose kid that is? Bec the night they reserved an anniversary dinner in JY resto is their 1st anniv? The kid looked like she’s around 4 or 5y/o? If I’m not mistaken, it’s 5 yrs later in the latest ep. And I remembered when YJ ran after JY’s car after he resigned from his job? Is that related to the kid?

I like DKS, he’s really good in My Annoying Brother. That movie made me cried a bucket of tears.

  15. What??!!! She married, had kid, and divorced in one episode? Lol. I’m stuck on Episode 5 bec I’ve been waiting for their big fall-out. They were just going round and round the same problem and nothing but a long time-out could correct it.

But it’s Election Day here. 🇺🇸 ⭐️ 🇺🇸 Let me get through this day and I’ll start blogging again.

Yes, My Annoying Brother was a surprise. I thought for sure the OLDER brother was the annoying one. But then DKS’s character must have been annoying too to the Hyung especially when he learned that he was dying — “annoying” in the sense that he was a responsibility that worried the Hyung so much that death couldn’t come easily.

Okay, gotta run. Election 🗳 Day! I’ve got work to do.

  16. Yeah, I got pissed off as well, Sansukini… this was the first episode when I didn’t like what the writer did, especially to Young Jae – she already lost her parents and had to support her handicapped brother (2 misfortunes)… and now she even loses her child… like really??? While Joon Young is still a happy peanut basically (no real misfortunes)… I also didn’t like the mourning scenes (drinking and depression)… Why so sad and melo suddenly?

  17. Urgh…haven’t checked Third Charm. The whole premise didn’t appeal to me. And the time jumps…and the flitting in and out of a relationship…like somehow it’s as flippant as the changing seasons (I guess that was the underlying theme of the show? Changing seasons of life so changing partners?). I like my kDrama relationships to have timelessness stamped on it. There’s enough of flippancy in real life and Hollywood offerings. Still haven’t checked out Mama Fairy. Real life currently has me in a bit of a KDrama lull.

  18. Same here. Drama day = Election Day

Will probably watch Mama Fairy if you all are watching it. 😂

Haven’t time to watch Eps 15 and 16 of 100DMP. 😞 Went campaigning these past few days. 😜 My right hand is bruised from all the handshaking. But all for a worthy cause…so I’m not complaining.
