It’s all about wiggling eyebrows this episode.
1. Holding hands!
Aha! They’re officially a campus couple! They’re holding hands in public.
It’s almost the end of the school year so our couple are preparing for the two-month summer break. Weiwei wants to borrow a couple of programming books from the library to study over the summer break and Nai chooses them for her.
WW: Will they be too difficult? Don’t pick them based on your level.
Nai: Don’t worry. I can tutor you via the Internet.
Packmule3’s rejoinder: In that case, how about I check you out instead of the books?
Erxi and her classmate, Cao Guang, are working on their class project outside the library when Weiwei and Nai walk out. Erxi thinks it’s brilliant to interview the “department beauty and the school heartthrob; a couple made in heaven.” It’ll be a sure hit at the graduation party. But Cao refuses to include the Campus Couple so Erxi approaches them herself.
Erxi: Weiwei can I interview you and Lord? You can talk about anything, like graduation, work, dreams, anything you want. Of course, it’s even better, if you talk about your relationship.
Weiwei: Erxi, you know I’m not good at these things.
Erxi: (pleading) Weiwei, I depend on you to pass my elective class.
Weiwei glances at Nai and Nai says, “Sure.”
But Erxi can’t make the camera to work and Cao helps her.
Erxi: Go ahead, Weiwei.
WW: Wait, you should let Lord speak first.
Erxi: You’re his girlfriend. Maybe you can share your feelings on your boyfriend leaving school?
WW: (she correct her) Erxi, he’s still nearby. Even after graduation.
Erxi: That’s good! Displaying your affection is one way to commemorate graduation.
Weiwei hides an embarrassed look at Erxi’s preposterous suggestion.
But this proves too much for Cao who grabs the camera and leaves, forcing Erxi to follow him and forego her interview scoop of the Campus Couple.
Weiwei stares after them with a thoughtful look. Referring to the angry Cao, Nai raises an eyebrow and asks her “All your life?”
He’s asking her whether Cao is one of those admirers that she’s used to getting all of her life…or ever since she was young. She doesn’t know that he already knew the truth about Cao because Cao foolishly challenged him to a one-on-one basketball.
She glances at him then snorts, “No, he only gave me a flier once.”
Good comeback. She’s using the same weird excuse Nai gave her to describe HIS admirer. Nai thinks her answer is funny and grins.
What can he say? She’s got him.
Edited because I found the gifs!!!

2. The cellphone
Weiwei borrows XiaoLing’s phone to text Nai. Xiaoling asks hers why Nai hasn’t bought her a cellphone.
“This boyfriend of yours is so insensitive. Doesn’t he know that once you have a phone, it’ll help bring you two closer?”
Weiwei answers, “We’ve only known each other for a while. He’s not the type to do that. That’d be awkward.”
She dismisses XiaoLing’s disapproval of Nai but her words sink in. She rushes off to meet Nai who’s reading while waiting for her on a park bench.
WW: When did you get here?
Nai: Just now.
WW: We had a meeting after the exam about our summer internship. I texted you from Xiaoling’s phone.
Nai: Let’s go. They should be waiting for us.
Weiwei looks at him without saying a word. She appears as if she’s waiting for something.
But Nai thinks she’s forgotten about the meeting. He says, “It’s our get-together. Did you forget?
She then looks away and smiles brightly. “Is it your treat again?” He answers, “What else?” And she nods her head.
I know that we’ve designated Xiao Nai the “Best Boyfriend” ever but perfect boyfriends don’t come perfect. They’re actually a work in progress just like we are a word in progress, too. To me, what makes Xiao Nai a “best boyfriend” is that his heart — and his brain, too — are in the right place. What he doesn’t know about being a “perfect” boyfriend, he learns quickly from his missteps. And this is one of them.
Although Weiwei didn’t appear to be bothered by Xiaoling’s criticism, it did make her pause and think. That’s why she casually mentioned texting him from Xioaling’s phone to see if it would register that a boyfriend would want his girlfriend in touch with him all the time and would offer to get a phone for her.
However, he didn’t think anything was amiss.
To answer Xiaoling’s rhetorical question: no, he truly doesn’t know that once she has a phone, it’ll help bring them closer. And why is this? Because he’s used to communicating with Weiwei over the internet.
Weiwei knows it has nothing to do with his lack of money. He was after all going to treat the guys out again. So she begins to wonder whether Nai is a little bit insensitive, as Xiaoling has said. Or thoughtless.
3. Flirting with Mozart
On the way to their dinner, Nai and Weiwei meet Mozart peddling his used dorm items. Weiwei recognizes him in his disguise and calls him out.
WW: Mr. Girly, don’t pick up bad habits from others.
MZ: My disguise is impeccable. How did you recognize me?
WW: (flatteringly him in convincing tones) Your elegance is so remarkable. No sunglasses, hats, or masks can conceal it.
Observe Nai’s look at her.
Mozart is duly flattered and he offers to give her his blanket for free. (Ugh. Really?! Nope! How often does he wash it? Judging from his socks, I say never.)
But before he can even extend it to her, Nai already moves and blocks it with his hand.
Mozart asks him, “Why? Are you jealous?”
hahaha. Remember their text before? Mozart said that his wife was coming on to him (or flirting), and he simply texted, “Enjoy it. I don’t mind.” Now that he’s seeing their banter up-close, he doesn’t like it.
Nai says, “Not at all.”
And Mozart retorts, “Drop the act. Why else would you stop me?”
Nai says, “You’re engaging in false advertising.” and he refreshes Mozart’s memory, “Freshman year, Marxist philosophy, you flunked twice.”
lol. Wrecked!
Mozart grumbles, “Wait, why would you remember embarrassing stuff like that? Don’t listen to his nonsense.”
Later during the meal, Mozart returns to the table that the guys finished off the food before he’s able to get some. He grumbles, “Are you pigs or what?” because they didn’t leave him even a piece.
Weiwei quickly passes him her bowl and says, “I saved you some.” He then turns to the others and brags, “See, Ms. Weiwei is the best. Right now, I feel motherly love.”
Not to be outdone, Nai tells him, “Take your time. Don’t choke.”
Mozart praises the change in Nai’s personality now that he’s gotten himself a girlfriend. He brags that Nai cares for him now. Nai corrects him and says, “It’s fatherly love.”
To me, it’s funny thing how Nai establishes the boundaries between his girlfriend and his best buddies. The guys can complain all they want that they’re being “bullied” by Weiwei, but when it comes to being put in their places, nothing can “bully” them like Nai.
4. Confession Time
They enjoy the food but Friend #2 says that the food’s delicious alright he was hoping to be treated out to a more expensive meal. Weiwei agrees, “It’s good, come often.” And Nai teases her, “Did you mean they should get more free meals out of me?” Weiwei sees her mistake and she corrects herself, “I said it too fast. I meant, it’s a good place, THEY should come often.”
They all toast to future gatherings at the restaurant. I love how Nai bends and reaches for Weiwei’s arm to nudge her to join them in the toast.
After this, Friend #2 tells Weiwei to treat Nai well because this is Nai’s first romantic relationship. “He has no experience. You have to be nice to him. Plus, it’s hard for them CS majors to find a good wife.”
Weiwei remembers how smoothly he grabbed her hand after the basketball game that he didn’t seem at all like a newbie.
lol. I thought the wrist grab was smooth, too, so I’ll repost it.
Then Mozart tells her that he wasn’t lying that someone did call Nai and confessed her love on the phone. She almost mentioned something about a gala (meaning the gala that Nai recently attended). Mozart says that it was obvious what she was trying to do. He tries to recall the name, and fails. “Meng, Meng. She called Nai yesterday, too.” He then pretends to doze off.
Weiwei turns to Nai for more details but Nai is curiously tight-lipped. “She said she wanted to explain something.” “And then?” she follows up.
“That’s it,” Nai answers.
Friends #1 and #2 back up Nai. They call him a cold-blooded assassin because he terminated the phone conversation with one sentence. Weiwei is curious to know what Nai said to the girl and they make her take a guess. She says the most logical answer: “Who’s this?”
lol. Look at Nai’s smug smile. He’s proud of his girlfriend.
His girlfriend knows him better than his buddies now.
The guys also confess that they found out the two girls involved in spreading the gossip about Weiwei and Friend #1 suggested that they hack Ai Chanel’s computer as it’s the end of the semester and there’s bound to be an essay due. Nai loftily says, “Moral character is essential in a man.”
Friend #2 explains the quote to Friend #1 saying Nai disapproves of his action and calls the move crass. Then the guys laugh saying that they know Nai’s style is more ruthless. Nai just whispers to Weiwei that they’re drunk-talking. Meaning, she should just ignore them.
Inwardly, though, Weiwei agrees with the guys, “That’s what I think too.” Meaning, she thinks that he can be fierce and ruthless.
Mozart orders more food and they’re all spicy. Friend #2 says, “Don’t make it spicy. Nai doesn’t like spicy food.” Weiwei’s shocked to hear that and she thinks back to their all-girls’ dinner when she seemed to enjoy himself when they ordered the very spicy fish. “He didn’t wince one bit.” She begins to ask him if he’s indeed averse to spicy food and he immediately confirms it before she can phrase her question.
5. Billiards
Pictures say a thousand words.
This scene proves that Zheng Shuang is a good actress because if I were in her shoes, I had Yang Yang wrapped around me like that, my face would only have one frozen expression. This:
Doofus-looking = me
EDITED: Explanation of why he said he wouldn’t bring Weiwei to billiards again and would make install a pool table at home

6. Curfew
Nai brings her back to her dorms before the curfew. He carries her backpack like a boyfriend!!
Nai: Go on up. I’ll see you tomorrow.
WW: Wait, you don’t like spicy food. Why didn’t you tell that day when we had Sichuan Boiled Fish? I remember all the dishes we ordered were spicy. We got maximum spicy on the fish.
Nai: It’s fine. I can adjust to the company.
WW: It’s okay, if you don’t like spicy food. You don’t have to accommodate me. (She smiles and gets her bag from his hand.)
You don’t need to help me out so much. Refilling water, buying breakfast for me. These are out of character for you.
Awwww… she noticed it already. Nai isn’t the type to inconvenience himself to do something or to go out of his way to please someone. Yes, he does things for her which he won’t ordinarily do for others. She’s telling him it’s okay. He can be himself with her. But Nai has a different idea.
Nai: Weiwei, it’s my first time being with a girl. I often don’t know what to do. At least for now, I have to be capable of what others can do.
His confession brought tears to her eyes because who wouldn’t be touched by his sincerity?
More importantly now, she knows that he isn’t insensitive or thoughtless as her friend XiaoLing presumed simply because he didn’t get her the cellphone. She’s his first serious relationship so he’s learning, along with her, what the expectations and the norms of a boyfriend is.
And with that thought, they say goodnight to each other.
WW: Log on to the game later. I have something for you.
Nai: Ok. Good night.
WW: Good night. Go on back.
7. The hairpin
Weiwei logs on and waits for Naihe to appear at Sunset Peak.
She gives him the hairpin.
I’m glad that she didn’t forget her promise on their wedding day to give him something better. She handcrafted this gift from two rare materials one of which is white jade. Jade is normally green. But she can’t give him a green hairpiece because of the superstition about infidelity attached to it.)
She says his old hairpiece was already one of the best but she wanted to try to give him something better, something she crafted herself. She says that she didn’t expect she would really be so lucky as to create it. Nai answers that he’s the lucky one so she compromises and says, “We’re both lucky then.”
It’s called Hair-wei because it’s “hairpin by Weiwei.”
Note: the subs in Netflix didn’t make sense here so I’m using the one in the other site. Weiwei says that the name she gave to the hairpin isn’t so poetic so he can replace it if he wants.
But he answers that he likes it very much. It binds him to her. Do you get it? It’s a hairpin so it serves to fasten the hair or to pin the hair up. But if you want to look at it as a symbol, then it pins, fastens, secures or ATTACHES him (the receiver of the gift) to her (the giver of the hairpin).
She logs off but not before he calls her his wife. He says, “Thank you very much, my wife.”
This is swoon-worthy, too, because I remember in Episode 12 he almost had a slip of the tongue. He was about to call her “my dear wife” back then but stopped himself.
Now, he’s calling her my dear wife.
It’s official!! Right? Right!
In her room, Weiwei fans her overheated face. She logged out because she thinks feelings were getting to intense there.
hahaha. But in his room, Nai made his avatar Naihe put on the hairpin called “HairWei.”
He’s so happy about his present (I don’t think he gets a lot of presents, does he?) that he walks out to the balcony and moons over it like a lovesick boy. hahaha. Instead of seeing the moon in the night sky, he’s replaying the scenario in the game.
Yes, this IS definitely his first romance.
He hears the guys returning to the dorm and he quickly shuts his laptop. The guys tease him that it’s a beautiful night and he’s got a beautiful girl so why is he back early? He invites them to play cards that night, and they’re surprised. He says he just wants to play because he’s in a good mood.
But heyyyyyy…. this is Nae, right? I suspect he doesn’t want them playing online tonight because they might see his hairpin, and he probably wants to keep that secret a tad bit longer.
That’s MY theory and I’m sticking with it.
He beats them (so what else is new?) and Friend #1 writes him an IOU (“I owe you”) for 800 meals. lol. I guess Weiwei doesn’t have to worry that the guys are going to get more free dinners from Nai.
8. The colds
Xiaoling and Erxi help Weiwei bring her stuff down to Nai’s car. She sneezes and Xiaoling wants to know if she caught a cold or somebody was thinking of her. She says it’s a cold but when the girls happen to look outside the window, they see Nai waiting outside by his car.
Of course, he’s already thinking of her although she isn’t gone yet.
Xiaoling envies how Nai has driving privileges inside the campus as his parents are professors there, and he can pick her up outside the dorm, because the rest of them have to drag their heavy suitcases to the gate.
I lol’ed at Erxi’s comment: He’s a multi-functional Master. I suddenly had an image of Nai as a Swiss Army Knife, multi-functional. These one has 141 uses, but trying putting that in your pocket without ripping your pants.
Anyway, Nai does serve many purposes. One of them is being a chauffeur.
Erxi also asks whether Nai’s upset because Weiwei’s leaving early. She doesn’t think so but looking at his glum face, it’s obvious that he’s one happy clown only in an alternate world. NOT THIS ONE.
She sneezes again and Nai just gives her a sharp look.
The girls exchange hugs and promises to see each other next semester. Weiwei and Nai get inside the car without saying a word. (Aha! The silent treatment!)
Nai: Did you bring medicine?
WW: Hmmm? (sneezes) You mean cold medicine? No, but it’s fine. It’s just a slight cold.
Nai: (hands her an unopen box of tablets from the cupholder) Take this.
Grrr… He’s quite the Boy Scout. Always annoyingly prepared. If I were his girlfriend, I’d make him buy feminine pads for my monthlies just to discombobulate him with the variety of choices: brands, style, types, sizes.
WW: This is for you.
Nai: (eyes the cactus) Another dowry?
WW: This is my cactus. I can’t take care of it during the summer. So please look after it for me.
Nai: Oh. So when I see it, I’ll think of you. To make me miss you when I look at it. (The netflix subs for this episode are really lousy. Grrrr.)
She knows then that he’s sulking. He doesn’t sound happy to take care of the plant. I think it’s because the cactus is going to MAKE him miss her when he sees it. Also, he knows that that the cactus is meant to mollify him or to appease his disappointment that she was leaving early. The cactus isn’t a welcome gift like the hairpiece he received last night. This gift is making him…well, prickly and cactus-y.
WW: I didn’t mean to book my tickets so early. I didn’t know you, when I booked the tickets through school.
hahaha. He still isn’t talking to her.
At the train station, he deposits her luggage near the lounge seats and tells her that he’s getting a platform ticket.
Hmm… I’m not 100% sure but I think a platform ticket allows him to accompany her all the way to the platform so he can bid her goodbye train-side.
Weiwei says, “It’s okay. I’ll get on the train myself.” He just ignores this and walks away to buy his ticket.
She grabs her luggage to follow him so he turns around. “The luggage is heavy. Please sit down for a while, my dear wife.” And he looks at the seat and he motions her with eyes to sit down.
There he goes again: calling her “my dear wife.”
I thought it was funny that they’re worried about her getting the cold but he’s giving her the cold shoulder himself.
Firstly, that ‘my dear wife’ just gives me heart palpitations all the time. 🥰 🥰 🥰
Secondly, I love this episode!
1 – There’s always something about a helpful boyfriend that makes you like him more. I’ve never experienced that helping in studies from a man.
I felt Xiao Nai felt happy that he’s girlfriend is the department beauty who has been asked all her life. 🙂
2 – As much as it is true that a phone would bring our couple closer and that money was not an issue, I wouldn’t want to take a phone from him if I were WeiWei. I thought it was fine that she worked so she can buy a phone. How did she lose it anyway? Did they show that?
3 – I like that jealous look. You can barely tell but because we know Xiao Nai, you can tell. Even his response was not of a jealous man, he was just stating the obvious. LOL!
I like that motherly/fatherly love. 😍 He does put the boys in place but I thought it was swoon because he referred to them as husband and wife with a kid.
4 – Agree! I liked that nudge to WeiWei to stand up because she is part of the group now.
That wrist grab came with a swoon look too per your gif. It’s amazing WeiWei didn’t faint from it. I would! 🤣
Waaaa! He was very proud! The only thing missing is a banner on top of his head saying my girlfriend is the best! 🤣
5 – They look so good together when he leaned over. The feels! 🤣 🤣 🤣
6 – I love this scene when she had tears after what Xiao Nai said. He is doing his best even if he doesn’t have the experience. Who wouldn’t be so touched when you hear him say that?
7 – Oh I thought about it just like you did, that it binds WeiWei to him. 🙂 Xiao Nai was sooo happy. I think you’re right that he doesn’t get a lot of gifts. Oh there goes that my dear wife again. 😍
8 – Ever since they became a couple, he’s been her driver alright. 🙂
Grrr… He’s quite the Boy Scout. Always annoyingly prepared. If I were his girlfriend, I’d make him buy feminine pads for my monthlies just to discombobulate him with the variety of choices: brands, style, types, sizes.
Don’t get nasty ok. 🤣 He’s just as you say he is, a boy scout. A very concerned boy scout because his girlfriend looks like she’s coming down with a cold. 😀
I always like it when Hubby asks me if I need anything or medicine when he feels I’m coming down with something. 🙂 I’m giving Xiao Nai points on this one. 😜
🙂 I’ll write up the phone explanation… actually the ticket explanation for Ep 16.
I’m running behind because I brought home work tonight. I’ll post longer reply tomorrow.
No worries @packmule3 🙂
Yes to the buying of platform ticket just so he can take her right where the train is. In here you don’t need to buy it. But he didn’t end up taking her there anyway. I think he really just wants to spend as much time as he can with her because they would be apart for 2 months. He wanted to alter her ticket booking too didn’t he? Poor thing. Doesn’t like the feeling of being away from his girlfriend for the first time. Hence, that tender kiss on her forehead. 😍
