I’m reposting @nrllee’s and @table122000’s comments here so they’re easier for me to reference later on. I won’t comment on JJY’s Kakaotalk because it’s an ongoing police investigation. CTH’s and JunHo’s hiatus may seem overkill but it’s probably the best move in a high-profile crisis like this. I’ve no confidence in the new PD to handle this negative publicity in a manner that would minimize further damage.
Problems I have (yes I know gambling is considered illegal in Korea)
1. CTH and JunHo revealed in their letters of apology that the incidents happened in Korea, it was a private fun golf game, and whilst there was talk of winnings, the money was eventually returned – it was a shared inside joke? So no money was actually exchanged? And knowing how the 2 were good friends and one’s a comedian, I would totally get their exchange in a private chat on JJY’s phone records which was only leaked because of JJY’s illegal filming of sex videos? They gamble like this all the time on the different Korean variety shows and nobody bats an eyelid? Double standards much?
2. Would you believe KBS was the company who decided to put this bit of news out there? Come on. The 2D1N cast was already reeling from their maknae’s blatant betrayal of their trust in him by taking him back into the fold in 2016 after his scandal broke (he threw their kindness back at their faces and lied this whole time? They were nothing but kind to him?) and you literally throw 2 of the kindest men under a bus to take the heat off the broadcasting company? That’s just not on. I am so mad. And so are the Netizens I believe who have come out swinging in defence of these 2 men. Smoke screens for the bigger issues like bribery, corruption, politicking. 😡
Regardless of how this all plays out I seriously doubt 2D1N would continue as it was before with the original cast with all that’s happened. It is on indefinite hiatus now and KBS was supposed to issue a public statement yesterday as to what would happen to the show (to cancel it outright or put it on hold for a return later) and thus far I have read nothing about such a statement. Certainly CTH and JunHo wouldn’t be particularly enthused to return after all this blew up in their faces.
This was @table122000’s comment.
Jung Joon Young from 1N2D is the leader/main person of the group chatroom in question. I believe all of the evidence comes from his phone that he turned in to police as part of the illegal sex tapes crimes he is involved in which was another different group chatroom he was also running. As to who else was in his 1N2D group, not sure. It’s truly a shame that all gambling( even private wagers between a group of friends, such as here) is illegal in South Korea. It would be nice if they had places that are regulated like Las Vegas or Atlantic City where people could go to gamble, but it is what it is. It’s such a shame that a person’s career is destroyed because of a “friendly wager” type of situation. At least Cha Tae Hyun and the other collegue from 1N2D weren’t members of that sex tape chatroom!
And this was @nrllee’s original comment.
Although after the whole shocking revelation that was last week with Jung JoonYoung and the fallout affecting 2D1N (and poor Cha TaeHyun and JunHo getting swept up in the mess through no fault of their own), my mood is somewhat fluctuating between all out disgust/anger and dejection because my happy pill on Sunday night is on indefinite hiatus as a result. 😡😤😢. And from rumours flying round, KBS is abolishing it altogether. 😠 I am not happy.
KBS is in a quandary now. To cancel the show would spell public outrage. To try to resurrect the show with the remaining members would be futile (they knifed 2 of them in the back…who would want to continue?). Gah.
Look at the number of up-votes to the comment to let them stay:

I hope the cast and staff can see how much they are loved by the public…if that’s any consolation. 🙄
OK, wait…so no money actually changed hands? Is it really even gambling then? Can they be charged? I’m not seeing how this type of “friendly wager” that apparently wasn’t followed through on would destroy careers? I guess I don’t understand why they have to leave the show permanently in these particular circumstances. It sounds like they could agree to give the 2 actors a “second chance” once they have accepted the consequences for their actions. On another forum, someone posted that punishment for gambling offence is usually just a fine. So perhaps they can just pay the fine and go to counseling or something like that and then return to the entertainment business, since it looks like the public is supportive.
Looks like they have the public’s support for keeping the show on the air. Perhaps KBS will just have a hiatus for a month or 2 to let things cool off and give them time to find a replacement for JJY, then return. I feel bad for all of the fans of the show.
Yes, I’m hoping it’s going to be a two-month break CTH and JunHo and the program.
The PD is new. Probably less than two, three months on the job?? If it was my favorite 2D1N PD, Yoo Hojin (or Ryu Hojin) or the original PD, Na Young Suk at the helm of the show, then I’d have the utmost confidence in the show’s survival. They’re veterans.
Let’s wait and see.
Yeah @Table122000. Apparently he posted the pics of the money as winnings and then the money was returned. Of course that’s his word. But I believe him because the initial news report said it was a golf game overseas. CTH corrected that info in his apology saying it was a local golf game where the incident occurred. How’s that for honesty? Straightening out the facts when he didn’t have to and JunHo verified it. Then JunHo does one better in his apology
“Contrary to the reports about golf gambling, I did not play golf overseas with my colleagues in 2016. [The betting] was also simply meant to make the game more entertaining, and we returned the money [to its original owner] at the site after the game was over.
As a public figure, and as the big brother of ‘2 Days & 1 Night,’ I should have set a good example, and I am deeply repenting on the fact that I was not able to do so. I fully realize that I am responsible for this issue and have decided to step down from all of my programs.
Furthermore, I hope there are no more misunderstandings and falsifications about my younger colleagues who are working hard for their broadcasts.”
Taking one for the team – both he and CTH – kind to a fault. 😥
And yes when Ilyong left not long ago the new PD had big shoes to fill. I am not sure he has the requisite experience and know how to navigate this mess now 😔
