I’m ignoring the low-lights or scenes involving Cao Guang, Nana, Sheng Zhuang, and Erxi. Erxi especially annoyed me in this episode when she repeatedly poked that poor cat’s head. I felt like bopping her head with the pooper-scooper to give her a taste of her own medicine.
1. Newsflash: Weiwei catches malaria! 😈
Personally, I have mixed feelings about this scene because I think Nai’s overreacting. If I were Weiwei, I wouldn’t stand for his fussing. 🙅♀️
Weiwei goes to the hospital after receiving a phone call from Cao Guang that Erxi needed rabies shots but refuses to get them. What a bother this Erxi is! On the way there, she receives a call from Nai who’s asking what she wants for dinner and he’ll bring it over. Awww… like a true husband! He knows he’s got to feed her since she’s been sick all day.
WW: Hello?
Nai: What do you want for dinner? I’ll bring it over.
WW: It’s okay. Erxi got bitten by a cat. I’m going to see her at the hospital.
Nai: Which one? I’ll go pick you up.
WW: Okay.
At the hospital, Weiwei finds out the reason Erxi doesn’t want to get the shot: lack of funds. She offers to pay the money Erxi owes Cao but Cao storms out. He and Nai see each other as he leaves the hospital and Nai arrives. I’m sure that Nai thinks he’s a jerk, not ONLY because that basketball challenge thing, but also for leaving the girls in the hospital. Nai wouldn’t have done that.
Erxi’s shocked to see Nai at the hospital and wonders aloud why Weiwei had to call call him for reinforcement.
Erxi’s terror at seeing Nai there reminds me of an idiomatic expression, “to call in the cavalry.” It means asking for assistance from the strongest and fiercest fighters or people on your team to squash a mutiny or “rebel” like Erxi with decisive force. Erxi’s worried that she has no choice but to obey “cavalry” aka DaShen.
Next, she wonders whether Nai ran into Cao outside the hospital because of the close timing: Cao just left and Nai just arrived. 👍 She’s smart even when she’s annoying. She worries about two “love rivals” meeting each other but she leaves the rest of her thoughts unsaid (thank goodness!) because Nai’s listening.
She suddenly realizes that taking the shot and escaping Nai’s company are preferably to sticking around with “angry” Nai so she skedaddles out of there.
Weiwei begins to explain the situation. “I don’t know how Erxi and Cao Guang…” but Nai isn’t interested about those two. He touches her forehead to check her temperature.
Nai: You have a fever. You sounded off on the phone. You’re in layers, but you don’t feel hot. You don’t know you have a fever?
Whoa! Who is he? Sherlock Holmes? Doctor House, head of the Diagnostic Medicine?
He says that he knew something was wrong because she sounded sick on the phone earlier. No wonder he looks grim here.
Weiwei doesn’t realize she’s THAT sick and she ends up being a patient herself.
Hmm… I found this gif but I didn’t see this scene in this episode. Help @agdr03! Where did this gif come from?
Weiwei wakes up to find Erxi watching over her. She explains that Weiwei fainted causing them to worry.
Then, Nai walks in with boxes of medicine for her. Erxi swiftly vacates her seat by the bedside for Nai. (lol. She likes to remind Weiwei that it should be friends before “beaus” BUT she knows in real life that she has to give up the chair throne for Lord Nai.)
Nai sits downs and checks her temp. He repeats what he said earlier, “You still have a fever” and orders her to sleep some more. But this time he says it gently, and he doesn’t look as fierce as he was when he arrived.
I think he WAS already worried about Weiwei’s condition on the way to the hospital and seeing Cao outside certainly didn’t help brighten his mood. He was ready to scold her when he saw her looking feverish in the hospital lobby. But once she fainted, he curbed his temper.
He brings the girls home and Erxi promptly makes herself scarce, saying that she’s so tired she’s going to bed. Of course, Weiwei doesn’t get it so she apologizes for Erxi’s excitable behavior. “She’s usually quite normal,” she says.
But actually Nai approves of Erxi’s action and defends her. “That roommate of yours has always been very sharp.” He’s implying that Weiwei ISN’T as sharp as Erxi. hahaha.
The other implication here is that Erxi was right. It was very PERCEPTIVE of her to worry about the two rivals, Cao and Nai, meeting in the parking lot. Nai didn’t like that Cao was in the hospital with Weiwei around.
He asks Weiwei where the thermometer is and tells her to take her temp again. As she walks away to get it, Nai follows her closely behind her.
You know why?
Because he’s holding her to support her in case, she feels woozy and faints again.
Sigh… She’s not an invalid, Nai. She can walk. lol.
She has a fever again. 39 degrees Celsius = 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
WW: It shot up again? The temperature came down earlier.
Nai: (can’t resist lecturing her) You scolded Erxi for not getting the shot. But what about yourself?
He tells her to go to her room and lie down. He lifts her up from the couch and leads her to her room.
Really now! If he’s this anxious about her health when she has malaria a cold, can you imagine what will happen when she’s pregnant and has morning sickness??!! He’ll be a basket case.
Nai puts her to bed and tucks her in.
(Ugh!!! Change out of your street clothes first and put on pajamas, Weiwei! I’m going to get sick just watching those dirty clothes touching clean sheets.)
He then gets a wet towel and hot water from a flask.
Product placement sighted. Rio. I’ll try this after Easter because I’ve given up anything alcoholic for Lent (except cooking with wine).
He urges her with his eyebrows to drink up and she does. lol. I wish he’d stop signalling with his eyes and eyebrows because I’m now watching his face for signals now.
She tells him to go home because she’ll doesn’t really feel that terrible. Based on her past illnesses, she’ll be right as rain the next day, even without medicine. He tells her to close her eyes and go to sleep.
WW: (insisting) You should go home. Go home. Make sure the door’s shut on your way out.
Nai: I’ll get going then.
WW: Okay.
When she wakes however, she’s surprised to hear the sound of typing. She quickly gets up to see if it’s Nai outside in the living room.
WW: You’re still here?
Nai: (he glances at her then looks back at the laptop) Without medicine, your fever might worsen in the night. So I stayed.
Note for us obsessive fan: My guess is he quickly went out to his car to get his laptop and returned to the apartment. He was able to get back in without a hassle either because he left the door closed but unlocked or because he memorized the passcode (he’s got good memory anyway).
WW: (touching her forehead) I think I’m okay now.
Nai reaches out for her hand and she happily joins him on the couch.
She sits beside her and he checks her forehead, too. lol. What’s up with this forehead touching?? I’d be like, “My head is sore from all that palm-to-forehead touching!”
That’s the Netflix version.
Nai: The fever broke. I’ve thought about it. I’ll keep you near me from now on.
WW: What?
Nai: Don’t you enjoy being my sidekick in the game? So keep going.
WW: But I haven’t finished the task Ashuang assigned me.
Nai: Forget him. (tugging her so she’ll rest her head on his shoulder) It pained me to see you suffer. (kissing her forehead)
Here’s the Kissasian version. The words are slightly different.
Nai: I’ve already thought about it. I’m going to keep you by my side from now on.
WW: What?
Nai: I thought you love following me around in the game. You can keep doing that.
I think Kissasian worded this section SLIGHTLY better. Netflix said “sidekick” and feminists would bristle with that word. Kissasian said “follower” which is slightly less deferential.
However, if we analyze their ONLINE relationship, Weiwei is always the active player. She killed and went after monsters while Nai only stepped in when she needed help. That’s why his friends tease him for being a “deadbeat” husband, remember?
WW: But I still haven’t finished the task that Senior Ashuang gave me.
Nai: Forget about him. I don’t want you stressed out.
My take on this: Nai thinks he’s the reason for her getting sick like this.
If he didn’t leave her in the “Newbie Village” for Yugong to manage then Yugong wouldn’t have left her under Ashuang’s supervision (Yugong had an ulterior motive: he wanted Weiwei to cure Ashuang of his gynophobia). If Weiwei wasn’t under Ashuang’s supervision, then Weiwei wouldn’t have been ended up sick like this. Besides he was warned by Mozarta of Ashuang bullying Third-Sister-in-Law.
So it troubles him that he’s the cause of Weiwei’s illness.
For me, the main difference between Netflix’s subs and Kissasian’s subs is the interpretation of what Nai’s trying to prevent from recurring in the future. With Netflix, he’s saying he doesn’t want Weiwei to be sick like this again so he’ll keep an eye on her and her health. With Kissasian, he’s saying that he doesn’t want Weiwei to be stressed out by working with Ashuang again so he’ll take her under his wings instead. He’s going to protect her from Ashuang.
I prefer the Netflix’s version.
2. The Return of Mrs. Nai
At the next meeting of the developers/programmers, he informs Ashuang of his decision.
Nai: Let’s wrap up the meeting. By the way Ashuang, I want to ask you something. I’m a bit shorthanded. I want to borrow your staff.
Mozarta chokes on his juice. He knows that Nai’s being diplomatic, of course. He’s the one who warned Nai about Weiwei being bullied and “Tigers not eating their own cubs.”
The gang welcomes her back after her illness. Yugong is happy that “Nai has at last decided to adopt” her. He even got her juice so she’ll be pretty and gay, and Nai will be utterly devoted to her. “You’ll be healthy in body and spirit. You two will be forever in love, and you’ll live to be 100.”
hahaha. Of course, this is product placement for juice.
Skeptical, Mozarta laughs it off, “Yeah, right. What’s Nai like? Don’t you know Nai is the most vicious? I can already feel it. Mrs. Nai is about to be on the receiving end of even greater torment (as Nai’s assistant).”
Yugong says, “No way! It pained Nai to see her suffer.”
Yugong’s words reminds Weiwei of Nai’s words, too. Nai said the exact same thing but without the exaggeration and mockery in Yugong’s voice. Yugong understands Nai.
Ashuang apologizes for giving Weiwei a hard time. He asks why she got him the medicine and Weiwei says it was not bid deal. And he leaves awkwardly. Like, what? Did he expect to hear that Weiwei did it for him out of LOVE?? What a dingbat.
Yugong teases Weiwei saying that she should have milked the moment. “Sweet talk him a bit more, and you’ll totally have him.”
Of course, Nai happens to walk in as he says that and they all guiltily and awkwardly (like Ashuang) take their leave and return to their stations.
It’s funny how each one has their reason for loitering around.
Mozarta: What am I doing here?
Yugong: She said she was thirsty so I gave her some juice but I’m actually very busy.
Monkey: I can’t find my phone. Where is it?
I’m sure (rolling my eyes) Nai’s ecstatic to hear of Yugong’s advice to butter up Ashuang. hahaha.
Of course, Nai doesn’t show any signs of jealousy. He just approaches Weiwei to tell her, “Come to my office at lunch. I want to use the break to show you the client game demo.”
3. Game demo
This is technical stuff and it went over my head.
The cute part here is she’s so enamored with Nai’s brainchild that she’s like a child herself and doesn’t want to eat.
I thought it was neat that there was even a merchant who looked like Yugong, selling hairpins. lol. Hairpins by Yugong??!! No thanks. Who wants to buy THOSE?
Nai closes her laptop to get her to eat.
I guess he isn’t kidding when he said that he’ll take good care of her….
After their lunch together, they talk some more about the game. He shares his goal or the company’s mission statement with her, “…The game engine is the main reason. We wrote our own engine. We’re free from those limitations. It’s also why I wanted to start my own company. That’s the only way I can accomplish my ideals in game design, and create my ideal game world.” To me, he’s using her as a sounding board because this is how he’ll explain his objective at the company demo with Feng Teng.
Weiwei falls in love all over again. She’s “mesmerized” by him. And this is normal behavior. We always find attractive a person with a brilliant mind.
Nai: Why are you spacing out? Get in.
But I’m giving Nai +10 bonus points. Because despite all that genius allocated to game design, he still remembers to be a gentleman and opens doors for her.
Another great thing about Weiwei is she understands his language. When he explains that he plans for the date for the mobile and online versions to sync up, she praises him for his business sense. “You’re so shrewd! You want to secure all types of players.”
Of course, she likes this idea. It’s one thing to design a game; it’s another to make the game a profitable business model and a money-making venture.
He touches her hair affectionately.
Edited to add gif:
4. Biting him
Back at his house, she’s jotting down her ideas on how to improve the game’s leisure mode. She suggests, “Perhaps we can add a little more to our family mode. Especially interaction between different families.” I think, after hearing Nai’s ideas, she’s inspired to contribute and is super-eager to add her thoughts to Nai’s game, too. But Nai’s not listening.
Nai: What do you think of the song?
(Wait. Was he actually playing the guzhen or was he just air-strumming/pretend-playing it? Because his finger plucking doesn’t correspond to the background music. lol.)
WW: Mr. Xiao, are you listening to me?
Nai: Yes, compile a report once the idea is mature.
Meaning brainstorm first then whittle them down to good ideas.
She bites him.
hahaha. Look at her face! She doesn’t look sorry that she bit him. Not one bit. That makes him madder.
I found a gif! Credit to owner!
Netflix version: Nai: Why did the missus bite me? I demand justice be done.
Kissasian version: Why did you bite me, my dear wife? I must get you back for it.
Kiss.
For @agdr03. Kiss screenshot.
WW: Is this really your first time in a romantic relationship?
Nai: Mmm.
WW: You’re so smooth.
Nai: I just know what to do at the sight of you.
WW: (she rolls her eyes)
Her eye-rolling is funny.
But this is one of the things I like about Zheng Shuang’s portrayal of Weiwei. I can picture an innocent girl like her reacting this way. “What a cheesy thing to say. ‘You’re just too irresistible?’ You sound like Tom Cruise.”
Judging from his serious look, he must mean it.
5. Heading back to the office
He puts on his jacket and buttons up his shirt.
Nai: Are you going back this afternoon?
WW: No, interns don’t get paid. I want to rest on weekends.
He waves to her to come to him. He kisses her forehead again.
Okay, normally, if my husband was to beckon to me like this,
I’d cross my arm,
raise a fist, or
chop off his arms like in Monty Python.
But hand-waving must be cultural or “Nai-tural” (Nai + natural) because Weiwei smiles then walks over to him without a second thought.
Nai: Then look after the house. Don’t go to Xiaoling’s.
WW: Look after the house? This isn’t my place.
lol. Who is she kidding? She’s got her own red slippers. And her giddy smile tells me that in her head, she thinks it’s her place, too.
Hmm… I found this gif but I didn’t see this scene in this episode. Help @agdr03! Where did this gif come from?
That gif is not included in any of the videos I’ve seen. I think they must have cut that out because Erxi said WeiWei passed out. Maybe it was before she passed out but cut it anyway 🙂
I’ll get back on this post later. 🙂
WeiWei did not noticed that Dashen was wearing the shirt that she wore! 😉
hahaha. You’re right! She didn’t notice that the shirt he had on was the old shirt she wore the previous night.
Let me add this. To the highlights.
So this gif isn’t in any of the episodes? Interesting…. Do you know whether a Director’s Cut with extra scenes was ever made?
Nope. I google and if there was a DC made, I’m sure there would have been much hoopla about it.
No. I haven’t seen that gif in any episodes. Anyone is welcome to correct me if I’m wrong. 😊
Is there a DVD of Love O2O? I want to buy! 😂
I love it when I get kissing gifs dedicated to me 😍😂❤️. Much thanks! 😘
I haven’t gotten back to this yet. I’ll watch He’s Psychometric tonight. 😊
oh goodie! Watch Psychometric… I feel like calling it “Psycho” for short.
Let’s call it Psycho then. You’re the boss! 😄
It’s a long word to continually type anyway 😆
1 – When you have a very smart boyfriend, he can just tell just from your voice that you’re unwell. Just count yourself lucky that he was right beside you when you fainted otherwise dropping on the floor would hurt. 🙂 See that? Even when he takes you home he was still right beside you making sure you don’t fall.
Really now! If he’s this anxious about her health when she has malaria a cold, can you imagine what will happen when she’s pregnant and has morning sickness??!! He’ll be a basket case.
I think he will quarantine her. LOL!
I prefer the Netflix conversation too.
2 – LOL! Yugong said the exact same thing as Nai. He really does know his bff. Everyone scrambles because the Boss came! They are funny!
3- I actually like this conversation of them and that they can fully understand each other especially because of their love for online gaming. They are perfect for each other. I would space out too if Nai was looking at me like that. 😍
4 – (Wait. Was he actually playing the guzhen or was he just air-strumming/pretend-playing it? Because his finger plucking doesn’t correspond to the background music. lol.)
I saw the bts of this and he is pretending. LOL!
Did you see his determined face of getting right back at her after she bit him though? I’d be scared but then the thing that he did wasn’t scary, it was yummy! 🤣
5 – If hubby beckons me like that I would say ‘Yes Amore?’ but I won’t go to him. LOL!
WeiWei went to him because she’s a good girlfriend and she was just cherished before that so she didn’t have any will power to say no. 😀
