@growingbeautifully, I’ll post our conversation here.
Adhoc thoughts … now that I’ve seen the video clip of GWY and Situ Mo brushing their teeth in separate bathrooms, I notice in the first screenshot that she’s wearing the same T-shirt as in the clip, and this time they are in the same bathroom, different expressions! Heh!
Good eye!

From Ep 14:
I like that Situ Mo actually has pajamas for bedtime. It gives me the heebie-jeebies when I see female leads wear street clothes to bed.
I was pretty frustrated that the lab guys haven’t cottoned on to the fact that the scientific way was not working with Mo Mo and that they should just stop endless discussions on hypotheses.
Same here. They proposed three hypotheses for STM pushing him away: she likes him, she hates him, or she dislikes him but thinks he’s harmless. (I’m not sure I understood the third hypothesis well because they didn’t expound on it.)
However, what I dislike about this scene was they discussed harassment.
WY: When I was unconscious and drunk, I kissed STM. (all shocked) But I forgot about it. I wanted to kiss her after I recalled it, but she pushed me away. Does it mean she hates me? But you said she was jealous because of me. She should be into me.
Math guy: She must hate you. You’re trying to harass her.
Prof: Cut the crap. She should have made a police report. But she didn’t.
I don’t want to go full Social Justice Warrior here, but in real life, the fact that no police report was made doesn’t mean that no harassment occurred. The Prof was wrong to imply that it would be the victim’s fault if she didn’t report the crime. However, in this romcom, no harassment occurred. GWY was unconscious but STM wasn’t. He didn’t restrain her and her movement wasn’t restricted. She could move away and evade the kiss. Throughout the duration of the kiss, she could have ended it by pushing him off her and he would have landed on the couch. He was unconscious.
But one of the things I absolutely detested about kdramas is the way the characters drank irresponsibly and the narrative glorified, and ROMANTICIZED, alcoholic blackout. You know those piggy-back rides when the girl is intoxicated that she can’t walk on her own two feet? That’s stupid and dangerous behavior. To me, drama writers, be they Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese or Vulcan, should stop promoting alcohol abuse as a public service and mental health awareness to their viewers.
I was also frustrated with GWY for choosing, of all rides, the noisy, with most interruptions, Bumper Car in which to explain the morning’s fiasco to her. I second FP in asking if he had no knowledge of Ferris Wheels in Amusement Parks, and have settled sadly to think that his smarts are only in science and math. There is a serious lack of common sense here!!!
I agree. The bumper cars idea was a mental lapse.
That’s why I think Xiao Nai is still the Best Drama Boyfriend Ever. He’s a genius but he has common sense, too. He can deal with the real world. hahaha.
The ferris wheel was a good idea unless one of them had acrophobia. I would have suggested a lazy paddle boat ride. You’re both paddling so there’s a sense of teamwork. Neither one of you can get out. You’ll be undisturbed. And you can go slow. lol. I personally think proposals on a boat ride is romantic.
I wonder if anyone else felt a bit sorry for kitty in the bag? I kept thinking that it was unhealthy for kitty to be cooped up in there for more than a few minutes or the length of a trip. Surely the cat would need exercise and to get out to pee and stuff, and to drink every now and then?
I know, right? That scene wouldn’t fly here. Pet owners would have filed a petition and schooled the writer & director never to make the same mistake. The bag was fine as a carrier but not as a playpen.
I mentioned before that he’s really a stickler for taking advice or going by the book. Now he follows FP’s advice to up his score with Mo Mo before confessing, and he takes her ‘GWY Form’ as the exam he has to redo in order to raise his score! (@packmule you’re probably right in the way you interpreted how he interpreted the score on the ‘form’) Good grief!
Well, he had no idea what he was looking at. He saw a chart and numbers and assumed that it was a scoring guide to evaluate him as a boyfriend. The header on the spreadsheet said, “Marking Form for Gui Wei Yi”
And he saw the numbers. So he concluded that he was being graded and he failed.
But he didn’t know the objective of the scoring rubric. It was for Situ Mo to determine whether he liked her or not, not to rate him as a boyfriend material. lol.
I’m glad that in the next episode, Mo Mo has guessed that he may have seen her ‘form’. Shows that she’s paying attention and putting 2 and 2 together. It just occurred to me that it would have been a great move on her part if she’d deliberately let fall that form so that GWY could wise up a bit. However, he misinterpreted everything!!! *Frustrated*
I think so, too.
I felt it was a pity that he does the swooniest things when Mo Mo is asleep. Carrying her to her room and tucking her in is sweet, but I didn’t understand how he could get his arms stuck under her and couldn’t just roll her off and get away. He’d already carried her, so what’s the big deal about pulling his arms away?
I agree. I was going to comment on this in yesterday’s Episode 14 Highlights but ran out of time.
I’m sure fangirls’ hearts in Youtube fluttered during this scene.
And I’m sure fangirls squealed and wished they were STM when GWY smiled here.
But it’s not practicable in real life and it’s just for show. It’s supposed to indicate that he’d endure anything for her.
I must say though that this sort of scene will only happen in ASIAN dramas. In Hollywood movies, the guy will have undressed her, either mentally or for real. lol. A scene like this will never happen because the average American viewer will find this stupid. “Just tug your arms from under her, man!”
I thought his Snail Rice Noodle scene was hilarious. He could barely draw breath to answer her since he was trying not to smell LOL. He was trying to breath the air from his left and not the air in front of his face LOLOL. In the end when trying to answer her pointed question, of course he’d choke. But that’s for the next episode.
The poor guy!
I’m really curious to know how this noodle dish smells like. Does it smell like urine? Poop? I’m tempted to go to an Asian store and search for a ready-to-cook package. I may have to cook it outside on the grill so it won’t stink up the kitchen.
But to me the most swoon-worthy thing he said in this episode was to offer to wash the dishes for her. hahaha.
I wouldn’t say no to that.
I’m thinking that the 3rd hypothesis is ‘she neither likes or hates him (ie. is indifferent) and finds him harmless’.
Drunken Stupors/Sleep – I hate these too and how they are depicted. Unfortunately it seems that over drinking is an accepted ‘way of life’. I wonder about the incidence of liver failure in countries with this drinking culture.
The Kiss – Now that you point it out, yes, they should not have spoken of the kiss only as harassment. GWY should have protested that it wasn’t, but as he was practically unconscious, he probably wasn’t sure. I guess they were discussing it as seen from the girl’s angle and on why she pushed him away. She had not reported him to the police, so she did not consider it harassment, and yet she pushed him away when he wanted to kiss her again. They were trying to use their socially-challenged scientific minds to figure it out.
Paddle Boats – Mention of this reminds me of ‘Lie To Me’ where the female lead wanted to speak in private and chose paddle boats. It would have worked out great if they could take the boat out a ways, and talked there without paddling.
Noodles – I’m not sure this particular flavour of noodles will be out on the shelves in instant noodle packets. It sounds kind of particular as if only a few people might like it, and like it has to be made fresh. I don’t have a clue how it smells, but I guess one has to eat it, to get used to it, and so to no longer really smell it as bad, and maybe end up liking it, just like with Durians. The same thing is said about Stinky Tofu in Taiwan.
Heart Flutters – Yes, I think I get more heart flutters from his cooking for her and washing up after her, as well as insisting on sitting with her as she ate, presumably to keep her company. Even previously his offer to clean up the broken cup, keep her clothes, or when he brought the slippers to her … stuff like that is more swoony, heart fluttery than mere long gazes and kisses. (So says an old married woman). 😉
hey packmule3 just wanna tell you ep23 is being broadcast live rn in youtube 😁😁
Thanks, dear!!! I’m on my way to NYC right now. Emergency. Take care!
