I’ll mark my calendar for next year to help me remember that October 3 is National Boyfriend Day.
This is two days late, but here’s my “incomplete” list of unforgettable fictional super- Boyfriends to celebrate.
1. Xiao Nai from Love O2O
The gold standard here in our blog. Who can forget this moment when he was protecting from deadly laser beams…errr…raindrops?
2. Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy
The gold standard in the Western hemisphere. And if you haven’t read the book or seen “Pride and Prejudice” (1995), you’ll never understand the whole concept of tsundere and why women are attracted to the “cold” men.
3. Richard Armitage’s Mr Thornton
You would have to be heartless to forget his “Look back at me” scene,
and that Rodin’s “The Kiss”. Their final scene where they kissed at the train station was the film equivalent of Rodin’s chef d’oeuvre.
4. The original MacGyver
He taught me that there’s nothing as lethal as a guy with a pocket knife and an ingenious mind. The Brits can have their James Bond. I’ll take MacGyver any day.
5. Shangyan from Go Go Squid
Who knew that I would laugh so hard at his scowling faces. I bet if somebody made flashcards of all his frowns, I can guess exactly the circumstances behind each one of them.
Yes, I know. I’ve to get on with Episodes 16….
6. The boyfriend-du-jour, Yongsik from “When the Camellia Blooms”
This mutt is 100% lovable. I was never into country bumpkins and mama’s boys with quivering chins until this guy.
He says, “I can’t beat a goblin.” But I think Gong Yoo has a serious contender. This guy shows EXACTLY the reason why grown-up women love fuzzy slippers after wearing high heels all day and hearty chicken noodle when they’re sick.

Belated greetings to these fictional guys!
Go ahead, ladies. You may share your best boyfriends here.
SY made the list 🎉🎉🎉🎉
LOL…. your post always made me laugh soooo hard, even my son complained on and on 😂😂
Welcome to Sanya episodes, soul sister 👋👋
i’m rewatching episode 14 as of now. I’ll catch you soon 👍
I seem to have enjoyed watching several boyfriends in action without clinging to much memory of them.
I went down the list of shows that I rated more highly to see if any boyfriends leapt to my mind.
Just Between Lovers: Lee Gang Doo meets again Moon Soo when they are adults, after both have survived a building collapse and suffer PTSD. He climbed up her window, in spite of his wonky knee, just to give her ice-cream at night, because she was sick and wanted something cool. I loved that they helped heal each other and that the show gave a resolution that acknowledged the pain of survivors and their families.
Healer: Another show with another 2 kids who required healing after a shared, sad past. Jung Hoo took on several persona to get to know and to get close to Young Shin, and continued to protect her. He was such a newbie at being a bf that he had to ask for advice and get help to give her unforgettable dates (at least the first 1). Loved that he had great respect for her. Despite having to be apart, he made a point of turning up to be with her.
Hotel Del Luna: Chan Sung for being ready to bear the pain to help Man Wol die peacefully.
Romance is a Bonus Book: Eun Ho could accept all that noona was, her lies and her taking advantage of him, and still loved her through and through. I liked the book metaphors.
Because This Life is Our First: Se Hee for giving Ji Ho a home while she was still a relative stranger, for being a protective contractual husband and never taking advantage of her in her need. 😀
OMG, the original Namjachingu – the National Boyfriend, the international boyfriend – no other than Kim Jin Hyuk. He would give everything and do anything for the people he loved and especially to SooHyun.
Super Belated Happy Boyfriend Day my loves Park Bo Gum. You have a long line of women behind your back wanting to be your yeojachingu.
