I know many of are staying for the male lead Hoon, played by Kim Min Jae. Please post your favorite scenes, rants, spoilers, analyses, predictions and theories here.
The two of them played the “Ideal Type” game.
KMY was trying to match his answers to GSY so he answered that his ideal is a kitten-like, double eyelid girl. (His original answer was puppy-like, monolid girl.)
But what’s up with a kitten-like or a puppy-like girl? Can a girl be a T-rex?
He’s type?
aegyo > serious
older > younger (I think he meant he liked noonas)
funny > quiet
extrovert > introvert
Dating like friends > dating like fluttering every time
Looks good with cap > looks good with glasses
Lot of skinship > less skinship
What kind of skinship? he didn’t answer lol.
Straight > push-pull
Seeing sometime > seeing everyday
Trust first impression > distrust first impression
Gaeddong > Gong Seung Yeon
because right now he’s living as Ma Hoon. (meaning, he’s in character)
Thanks, @adr03 for this YTvid
I’m feeling a tiny bit jealous here. Look at him smiling and laughing. 👎
“Is it ok for her to be this beautiful?’. Hmmp! 😒
I couldn’t find the link of the behind-the-scene of laundry day. 😂
Have you watched the new episode?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4Z24Xy76pg
Is it this one?
No, I haven’t watched the episode and I was really tired last night so I had an early bedtime. LOL. I could only watched 1 episode of Melting Me Softly. hehehe
Have you? 🙂
Just got home. I’m trying to finish part 2 of Ep 8 before I call it a day.
Thanks. I’ll post this YT on blog.
No, haven’t watched Ep 9 and Melting me Softly.
Okie I’ll let you be. 🙂
I didn’t think you were watching Melting Me Softly. I am thinking of watching Reply 1988 because I like PBG. 🙂
Is MMS any good? I thought it was cheesy? 😂
Love Reply 1998. Maybe I should do Ep 1 when I’ve time.
Yes it is cheesy. 🙂 Remember I didn’t laugh at all in the first 2 episodes? hehehe It’s ok for now because they just got back from being frozen. There are bits that’s funny now like both of them trying to learn how to use new technologies like a modern mobile phone. hehehhe
Yes, I am seriously thinking of watching Reply 1988. It’s on Viki but not on Netflix. Should I read up on what you’ve posted about it so far or better I watch a few episodes first?
3 rules for Flower Crew noble woman makeover as established by Hoon (15 days). He said “from this moment on…”
1. If you fail 3 times, you’re out
2.You cannot leave this place without my permission
3. You cannot talk back to your masters
Scene ends with her agreeing to the terms?
And in the very next scene…we see her out watching her Brother draw on the ground next to JiHwa’s home (?) bidding him final farewells… what happened to rule #2? 🙄
Gripes
– How does GD not know how to use chopsticks? That’s like a given no matter what your status is? I thought every child is taught to eat with chopsticks (it’s a given in Chinese culture…not sure about Korean?)? How would she eat noodles? 🙄 Sigh…maybe I am getting too picky…
– GD breaks rule #2 again after she gets the fake letter from HwaJung’s fiancé and nobody else is home to help her 🤦♀️.
– he gives her a new name and she hugs him again 🙄
Loves
– I loved the secret letters in the wall. HwaJung is gorgeous in hanbok. I love how she looks. Their story (she and her fiancé) is so romantic. And the backstory of her mum wanting to remarry for her sake so she’s not whisked away to be potential Queen because of the Ma family greed? 👍.
– Lady JiHwa has spunk and a backbone. “I will choose who I will marry” when her Father told her he wants her to put her hand up to stand as a candidate for Queen. She slams down DoJoon’s advances. She has her pride. She’s like a female Darcy (minus the kindness). Then she proposes to Hoon 😂. Gotta hand it to her. She’s a woman with her own mind.
hahahaha at @nrllee , I feel I will have a lot of 🤨 and 🙄 when I watch it tonight especially with the chopsticks. 😃
I like the pairing of Lady JiHwa with DoJoon but I don’t like that she is unkind to the point of nasty especially to GD’s brother. Poor DoJoon when he finds out that she proposed to Hoon. 😂 But then again, let’s see how she’ll be once her Father finds out that she’s received advances from DoJoon before she turned him down. 🙂
I watched that Elle interview twice, and two things: (1) Kim Min Jae is such a heartthrob, and (2) I was initially indifferent towards Gaedong and I found her acting in this series hit or miss, but seeing her dolled up in regular clothes, my… she’s gorgeous. She’s not shockingly pretty but she has this look and vibe that makes her beautiful the more you watch her. Simple, understated, elegant and lovely. #womancrushalert
I’m now a fan of both of them lol and I’m looking forward to romantic scenes between Hoon and Gae Dong. I hope they do a real kiss, like a passionate one. Haha
Done watching episode 9!
Favorite scenes:
Hoon giving Gae Dong her new name. It’s a sweet scene.
I don’t comment on the side stories much because I’m on spectator mode and I’m just watching things happen, but I feel relieved that the the mom knows that her daughter’s letter was forged. What does that say about the fiance not recognizing Hwa Jung’s handwriting lol jk
And finally, Hoon’s explanation about the narrow road leading to the Flower Crew HQ. YES to equality! We stan a just male lead.
I don’t care much for Young-soo because I find him unreasonable whiny but he’s likable in this episode. The dressing room montage of him with Gae Dong is cute.
Leave it to Do Joon to piece things together. Love him too.
But that ending though!!! And Hoon’s response to Ji-hwa in the preview. UGH I was disappointed but good thing the preview shows Gae Dong… confessing to Hoon. Is that what she did? Because if yes, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Go ahead and watch the first few episodes. I’ll write a “second” impression so you can post on that one then instead of the Throwback posts. 🙂
So Jihwa became a rebel after the pottery crash, eh? 😂 Good! Then Dojoon is not the cause of her downfall but her upswing. She’s been a leader with her own girl fanbase. She just needs to be kinder to people below her, like she’s tolerant of her maid’s harum-scarum ways.
Will watch Ep 9 later. Conked out after coming home last night.
The other thing I loved was how Hoon stated his stance to Soo making it clear where the rules of engagement start and end with regards to the matchmaking. It was his (Hoon) job to get her to the point where she could make a decision either way, but the onus was on Soo to make her choose him (win her heart) in the end… I like how Hoon plays fair even in affairs of the heart. Another reason to swoon 😍.
From previews it looks like GD is going to make a confession to Hoon?
Really? She’s going to confess?
I get it now. Role reversal.
This show is about women doing their own thing despite society insisting that they take on a subservient or secondary role to men. It’s how women subvert the cultural norms behind the scenes.
The Dowager said in an early episode. That the real power behind the throne is wielded by women.
I bet the Dowager will do her thing too. To stop the Prime Minister, she must stand up against him.
You and @agdr03! You both like kisses. KMJ is a cutie. I’m glad he has his first leading role. Too bad that it went up against JDY Tale of Nokdu, though. But we can always create our own buzz after this.
“The Dowager said in an early episode. That the real power behind the throne is wielded by women.
I bet the Dowager will do her thing too. To stop the Prime Minister, she must stand up against him.”
Yeah you could be right there. The King (Soo) is working his way through to her with kindness and concern. He has worked out that she’s attention seeking and instead of getting annoyed, he’s offering support and a listening ear.
Well, good morning to you! 🌞
Okie, I’ll start on Reply 1988 soon. I’ve actually finished TWOMAFL that’s why I’m looking for my next drama 😄
I’m about to start on episode 9.
@nrllee I agree. I love the part where Hoon tells Soo he can only create an opening but it would still be Gae Dong’s decision so it’s up to Soo to make her choose him. I sighed in relief when he said that because he’s not full on pushing Gae Dong to marry Soo. He still knows Gae Dong will be the one to choose. However, I was quite disappointed again when it looks like Hoon agrees to marrying Ji Hwa in the preview.😒
@packmule3 Thankful to the writer and the female director for creating strong women. 😊
We’ll see about the writer…That’s just my take on the direction of this drama, based on your spoilers. I haven’t watched Ep 9.
Side note: if I were to rank a few of my favorite kdramas, Reply 1988 will take the top spot. 🖤
I’m so sorry for posting so many things but I just remembered something! It’s just that I’ve been thinking why Hoon would agree to Ji Hwa’s proposal. I think it won’t be a real wedding, especially because they showed flashbacks of Hoon’s fake wedding.
So Hoon had a fake wedding for Su Yeon right? What if Ji Hwa only wants to avoid being pushed to marry Soo, so they’re going to stage a fake wedding?
@lollyminx the wedding of Hoon to JinHwa can’t be fake for it to have effect? If her whole point of getting married was to avoid marrying Soo, then the marriage can’t be “fake”. Everyone needs to know about it? The context of Hoon’s fake wedding was because Lord Yun’s (? I forget his name) Daughter SooYeon was on death’s door and her final wish was to have a wedding so Hoon played the groom and they had a fake wedding (no guests, just the 2 of them and Lord Yun). Nobody else knew about it. Don’t know how they (JiHwa-Hoon) will swing it…maybe a prenup? 😂. JiHwa is not dumb. I like that she sets her mind on something and follows through with action. She doesn’t just wallow (like someone else who keeps lamenting about her “bad luck” 🙄). Of the “strong” out of the box women in this drama, she stands out to me because she is smart. I get the feeling she is unkind because GD presents as a threat to her. She is used to coming up on top so when she sees that she can get the better of GD by taking it out on her brother, she does so just to spite her. It’s not a great character trait to have but I sense she can change and DoJoon will be the one to do that. The other “strong women” like GD and Dowager…well…I find aren’t particularly winsome. Strength without dignity is just… loutish and crude? 🤔
@nrllee Oh right! They can’t get fake married cause people would have to come and watch. Hmmm… we would have to wait to see what becomes of it. I hope it’s something clever to fool Ji Hwa’s father, and Hoon decides to accept her proposal for Do Joon’s sake or something but I’m afraid he’ll agree to make Gae Dong the only noble eligible to marry the king. 😢
Well, is there Tale of Nokdu today?
I guess people will watch Flower Crew instead. 👍
Hmm…Ep10 reviews were spotty. I was hoping laundry Palace Maid would have her happy ever after with Soo but from comments, it sounds like she may have met with an untimely demise? ☹️ And it sounds like Hoon-GD shared a moment but it was brief and a parting (inevitable in KDrama) looms. I need to watch to confirm.
Loved
– (ironically) the interactions between JiHwa and Hoon (after she proposed they get married). Their verbal parlay was so dignified and dare I say it, clever. Urgh…in another universe I would be shipping these 2. The match each other intellectually. The way he “refused” her offer was brilliant…left her with room to keep her sense of self esteem intact. Nicely played.
– how Hoon directed LadyYim’s response in her audience with the King? Again, well played. Made his Father look almost benevolent. Plus Lady Yim’s daughter gets her wish to marry her fiancé and the Palace foots the bill. 😂
– the unspoken understanding between DoJoon and Hoon. They both have women they love but can’t have (yet) so they are miserable. And the commiserate with each other. 😂. Confession – I have way more feels when they talk man to man to each other than I do with Hoon-GD 🙄
– honestly JiHwa is growing on me with each ep. She is formidable. Determined, headstrong AND intelligent. GD pales in comparison.
– flirting on the bridge Joseon style was cute. Kinda like writing names down on the dance cards in Austen books?
– despite her grating voice, I loved the confession. From her to him…with a poem. On the bridge of love ❤️ 😘
Gripes
– how did DoJoon get his first version of events with his mother so wrong? I am finding it hard to accept that his second version of events played out as how it actually was just because Lady Yim spoke those words to him? 🙄🤔. I need to suspend my disbelief somewhat.
– GD…the actress that plays her…enough said. 🙄
– I know this should normally sit on the side of “what I love” but this OTP is not hitting the right notes for me. Yet another “accidental” close proximity with stares into each other’s eyes on the bridge. 😳 I let slide the one where he is grabbing her close and hid when the assassins gave chase. That was life and death. The one where she finds herself in his arms again because of the lion dancers? Overkill. I don’t need another one of these accidental moments. I get it okay? They are fated to be together in the end? I don’t need anymore accidents to convince me. 😂
Other notes
– very sad about laundry Palace maid’s demise 😢
– not sure about how I feel about Soo overhearing GD’s confession to Hoon on the bridge. He already lost a good friend in the Palace maid just hours before? To lose the woman he pledged his heart to would be too cruel…but there you have it. Double whammy. Ouch…no wonder previews show seem to imply he goes frenzied mad 😡 “how dare he take the King’s fiancé?”
I know a few things for sure about this drama, I like Kim Min Jae, Byeon Woo-seok and I love what you’ve been writing so far @nrllee 😂 You and @packmule3 ! 😂
I haven’t watched the episode but I’m already enjoying your post above. I have to agree that our OTP here is not making my heart flutter at all. The electricity is on JiHwa and DoJoon.
I love that Do Joon had a fight scene in Episode 10 and his backstory is revealed a bit. I hope they also show something about Young Soo because without a backstory, he just looks like a whiny brat to me 🤣 (I’ve grown to respect his skills though cause he seems to enjoy what he does but I hope they did more to Gae Dong’s make up because every guy at the bridge seems to be attracted to her beauty when there’s not much difference between her face with and without makeup). Sometimes it’s funny how characters act all stunned when there’s not enough reason to be 🤣
Also, Gae Dong’s confession at the bridge. It was beautiful because she changed the poem to reflect her true feelings and she didn’t waver. It was also a clear confession, not a vague one BUT if they change it in episode 11 like say, have Gae Dong say something like, “No, I mean that’s how I would change the ending of the poem,” I’d be frustrated. Gae Dong shouldn’t take it back so we’ll see what Hoon would do. Go through with the matchmaking of Soo and Gae Dong or find other clever ways to have a win-win situation for all like what he did for Lady Yim. Soo will always be on the losing end though. 😬
“I haven’t watched the episode but I’m already enjoying your post above. I have to agree that our OTP here is not making my heart flutter at all. The electricity is on JiHwa and DoJoon.”
Yes @agdr03. That pair didn’t even have an “accident” (moment of fate) that brought them together? They created their own “moments”? All intentional. DoJoon saw her, he tripped her so she would fall and he caught her. JiHwa took lengths to visit him at the Brothel. He moved to embrace her at the piano, kiss her at the pottery shop and again back hugged her in Ep10. It’s like a lovely dance of love. Intentional, thought out. Left nothing to “fate”.
@lollyminx And yes honorary mention – DoJoon is mega swoon worthy in Ep 10 when he saved Lady Yim. Fighting off the assassins with the grace of a gazelle. And then even sustaining a wound on his arm for her sake 😍 which she bandaged of course with an embroidered handkerchief. This moment for me threatened to usurp the earlier OTP moment where gallant Hoon gathers GD into a protective embrace as they hide among the billowing silks leading me to think “Man, someone has expensive bed sheets, who would’ve thought? And so many too…all washed and still left out hanging to dry at night?” 🤔. Comparing the pair? DoJoon and his mother figure Lady Yim for the win.
@nrllee Right?! I was like YAS DO JOON!!! when he hit two men at once and it was shot from above and in slow mo. He’s already a cool character but he looks even cooler. 😎
LOL at your comment about laundry and also, that Hoon and Gae Dong did the deer in the headlights, shocked they’re in close proximity look TWICE in one night – while hiding behind the SILK (bow chicka wow wow) sheets and on the bridge. 🤭
Had to skim through Ep 10 to see what you’re talking about the sheets. 😂 Artistic license again! 🤪
😂 This director is obsessive about a few body parts here:
Hands
Feet
Eyes
From now on you’ll be first over everything.
Nothing in the world makes me wonder, but you do.
Today I need your comfort more than your sharp words. Will you be mine?
When all movement stops as the night deepens, the bright moon shines over the empty garden. It washes away all the impurities from my mind and clearly reveals MY TRUE LOVE.
My feelings are not wrong. I love you. I have fallen in love with you.
I’m loving the dialogues in episode 10. 😍
I thought GD looked nicer with the yellow skirt hanbock, the scene where she was told by Hoon to memorise at least 40 poems.
DoJoon have beautiful eyes. It’s mesmerising really 😍, no wonder all the ladies are swooning after him.
Is it possible that Hoon will make the fake wedding with Lady Yun Seo real so he can prevent the marriage of GD to Soo since it is now her name? I think no one knows that the retired Lord’s daughter died. Someone correct me please.
I love that ost when DoJoon gave JiHwa a back hug and when GD confessed her love to Hoon at the bridge. I think it’s the same song. I loved her confession of love because she looked him straight in eye and didn’t blink at all. She really did have the courage then.
I feel for Soo because it looks like he’s going to be a good King but he needs someone to be with him. Someone that loves him too. But who?
No one knows that the daughter passed away. But yes, if she took daughter’s name and Lord Yun acknowledges her as his, then she is married to Hoon. 😂
Yes. So many romantic one-liners exchanged with much feelings and pauses, in this episode. 😆
I feel for Soo, too but we need another female character introduced late in the show for him. 😂
How late in the drama are we talking about? 😂
So problem solved about GD marrying Soo. 😂
Are you mocking the pauses on those one liners with feelings? 😂
Yes. I’m making fun of the pauses because whenever I dictate the dialogues on my Iphone, I sound stupid pausing, too. 😂🤦♀️
Ok 😂
I’m watching Nokdu and DongJoo now ☺️
Tell me how it goes, ok? I’ll watch it tonight.
Sure no worries! ☺️
I should post Ep 9 soon. Just having a wee bit of technical difficulties uploading screenshots.
The bridge date of GD and Hoon looked romantic. I wonder if he saw Soo standing there.
Can’t believe three more weeks and this drama is done.
Yes, the bridge date looked romantic. It was nice to recite poems to the one you love and to make a wish on a lantern. 😊 I think he did see Soo because it looks like he turned down GD base on the preview.
Yes! Just 3 more weeks! Time really flies when there’s a lot of dramas 😁 Next think you know it’s Christmas again 😊
@agdr03 OH MY GOD! What you said! “Is it possible that Hoon will make the fake wedding with Lady Yun Seo real so he can prevent the marriage of GD to Soo since it is now her name?” THIS IS PERFECT! I won’t complain if this happens… and please, since they’re married, I hope there’s passionate kissing. 🤣
‘I hope there’s passionate kissing’.
You know @lollyminx , this used to be me a lot 😂 but I have to say my passionate kissing needs to be with a pairing that I really like. I’d rather have a passionate kiss scene in Tale Of Nokdu 😉 But if there’s one here, I’d like it for DoJoon and JiHwa 😁🤞🏻
Anyway let’s see whether we will have one. ☺️
I forgot! Kim Min Jae and Kim So Hyun played king and queen in Goblin. I’m glad they found new partners for a fusion sageuk but it would have been fun if they were cast together again.
KMJ: 22 years old
KSH: 20 years old
Ooohhh yeah, I think they can pull it off. ☺️ I forgot they were king and queen in Goblin.
Good morning! Later! 😉
