Crash Landing on You: Episode 4

What I learned in this episode:

1. Seri is an illegitimate child.

This is an interesting revelation; it clarifies some preconceptions.

At 43:38, Seri’s mother looked furious to hear that Brother #2 wanted to involve the tabloids in Seri’s humiliation. In order to block Seri from taking control of their company, he wanted the tabloids to disclose that Seri was their father’s illegitimate child.

Then, Seri’s mother was equally indignant when Brother #1 pointed out that none of them considered Seri to be a real part of their family. He said that they all treated her an “unwanted stray dog.” He added, “Mom, when Father brought her home, you probably wanted to abandon her if no one was looking.”

It was then that their father pounded the table to silence Brother #1 and their mother stood up. Before she began addressing the family, a memory of Seri counting by herself at the beach flashed in her mind.

She said, “Do you want to hear my opinion? I think you made the wrong decision. We don’t know what happened to Seri yet. So finding a replacement for Seri is being too rash. That’s my opinion. That we don’t know yet. I believe that Seri can come back.” Brothers #1 and #2 kept interrupting her to protest her declaration but she didn’t back down.

From this scene, many viewers assumed that Seri is her father’s love child. I don’t believe that. I think she’s her mother’s love child. Seri and her brothers don’t have the same father.

From Episode 1:

At 46:31. Seri’s mother has her on her speed dial and she was ranked #1. Speed dial rankings are important. As Jerry Seinfeld once said, “the speed dial rankings are like a relationship barometer.” Seri can’t get any more important than #1, right? Seri’s mother wouldn’t have ranked her above the rest, including her own husband, if Seri wasn’t her own flesh and blood.

At 48:01. After the tornado incident, Seri’s mother was inside the car with her father at the launch site. Outside, the two brothers were discussing with the police what to do about  her disappearance. While her father calmly observed his two sons, her mother was visibly distraught beside him.

Her argument with Seri the previous night was weighing on her mind. She remembered going after Seri outside the house…which was weird in itself. It appeared to me that she didn’t want their confrontation held indoors where the other family members could hear them.

Mother: You said you would leave. You said you would disown our family. I guess you want to take what you can take. Tell Dad that you can’t do it.
Seri: (changing topic) Whenever I get startled or scared, I still say this, “Omma!” How funny is that? Because I don’t have a mom. What kind of mother wants her daughter to be gone? Right?

The following day, she tried to get in touch with Seri (hence, the speed dial scene). Most likely, she wanted to patch things up but by then, the tornado accident already happened.

To me, her mother’s detachment made sense if Seri was a product of HER own indiscretion, and not the husband’s.  The mother was distancing herself from Seri as a way to protect Seri from her husband’s wrath. She didn’t want Seri to be targeted since there were no blood ties between Seri and her husband who owned the company. Seri was only accepted by the others on sufferance.

Also, remember what Jung Hyuk said about waiting in Episode 3. “A second feels like an eternity when you don’t know if your family member is alive.” Her father was ready to move forward and name Son #2 as his successor. It was the mother, however, who said that it was premature to declare a successor, and expressed a belief in Seri’s return.

Only a real parent would cling to hope and wait forever.

2. Jung Hyuk’s taste in women’s fashion is old-fashioned. hahaha

It probably escaped people’s notice that Seri’s clothes are more feminine than what she normally wore. They were all floral.

The yellow sweater accessorized with a floral scarf and printed skirt.

The green sweater with floral buttons and floral skirt

The floral sundress over a white turtleneck.

Her pink sweater over floral skirt.

They look prettier on her than the black outfits she used to wear.

3. Seri uses super-strong hold pomade for her hair.

How else could her hair defy the wind as she paraglided down?

I don’t mind the CGI errors, but would it really cost that much to have a big fan blow air at them as they pretend to fall down to earth?

4. She named herself Choe Sam Suk (at 30:14)

Pwahahaha. Did she really think that she outsmarted the ahjummas?

I’m sure the ahjummas knew that she was lying because Choe Sam Suk was a famous singer in North Korea. The colonel’s wife even had one of her records right there on top of the boxes.

She probably committed the same faux pas as naming herself Taylor Swift or Beyonce.

But that was nice of the ahjummas to let it slide and still accept her into their fold.

5. Hints of Jung Hyuk’s influence

Driver/Gwang Bum: She said she was going to help you get the Preferential Star.
JH: (scoffing) As if she can actually help me! (then smiling) Does she really think she’s my fiancée or something.

He was tickled pink at the idea that she was helping him out. He must be feeling that similar satisfaction that a husband (or wife, because we’re not sexist here) feels when he sees his wife lending him support to earn a coveted promotion.

GB: She said that it’d be easier for her to get out of here if you won the Star. (JH is still smiling) According to her, you’re like a nobody.
JH: (instantly frowning) A nobody?!
GB: Yes. She thinks that because your rank is low, and you don’t have any power, she can’t get out of here.

This was funny. He realized that she had ulterior motive to seeking his promotion. So from feeling satisfaction, he suddenly felt insulted. She thought he was incompetent.
JH: (exhaling in dismay) It’s not true that I don’t have any power.
GB: Pardon?
JH: It’s nothing.

He didn’t refute his low rank, but he took issue with her assumption that he had no clout. She didn’t know that his family connections were purposely expunged from his file because he was well-connected, and he was on a secret mission to investigate his brother’s death and corruption in the military.

6. Manbok is hiding a note.

My guess is it was a message to Jung Hyuk from his older brother in the event of his demise.

Or a grocery receipt. lol.

7. Worried about Seri

Although this whole episode was written like a fanfic, to criticize all the sweet moments is akin to Ebenezer Scrooge saying, “Bah, humbug!”  So join me instead in lifting our hands up and praising heaven for scenes of romantic Hyun Bin.

Thank youuuuu, drama gods!

I liked the way he took care of her. First, he went to the market in search for coffee beans for her.  He knew she was distressed because she failed twice to return home. Buying her coffee was probably his way to console her and to ease her in for her longer-than-expected sojourn in North Korea.

Then, he had his men guard her. According to Jung Meok (or the drama enthusiast), they were all told to come quickly and to protect her. It seemed to me though that Jung Hyuk wasn’t so much worried of outside threat, as in inside threat. He was concerned that she’d do something desperate again, like run away, so he ordered his men to keep an eye on her.

That night, he came to pick her up from the Colonel’s house on his bike.

He lied to her. He said that he had NOT been waiting for her to come out, and she knew it. The cushioned seat in front of the bike was proof enough. He obviously prepared that seat for her so she wouldn’t hurt her “bloomin’ ass” when she rode home with him.

Of course, she shamelessly teased him.

JH: It gets dark at night here, so don’t stay out too late.
Seri: Are you worried about me, Jung Hyuk?
JH: No, it’s not like that?
Seri: Then, what is it like?
JH: The thought of you bothers me.
Seri: That means you’re worried about me.
JH: No, it’s different.
Seri: It’s the same thing.
JH: It’s different.
Seri: It’s the same thing.

For dinner, he brought home clams from the market, and the men made clam bulgogi. (Yummy… I had a platter of raw clams last night, but they weren’t as big as these ones on the show.)

And for breakfast, he made coffee.

Didn’t I say in my “First Impressions” post that if Jung Hyuk knew how to brew an excellent cup of coffee, my alter-ego would live with him in his military barracks?

Here I am banging at his door. lol.

But joking aside, I don’t think people realized that there’s a theme song in this episode. It’s called “Flower” and is sung by Yoon Mirae.

The song is relevant.

It was played twice: when they were paragliding down and when Jung Hyuk found her in the marketplace. There’s a pertinent line repeated in the song, which we should understand because it’s sung in English.

“I’m worried about you; I’m worried about you.”

First time the song was played: at 11:24. They jumped off the cliff and were flying down. Jung Hyuk heaved a sigh.

Seri: (in an annoyed voice) Hold tight.
JH: (he did) I have to.

Here, Seri was telling him to hold tight because she was worried that if he let go, he would fall to his death. When JH retorted, “I have to,” the impression we got was he was pointing out the obvious, that is, he hardly had any choice. He wasn’t stupid. Of course, he was holding on tight because he didn’t want to plunge to his death.

But…

there’s another interpretation. He was saying was he was holding on tight to her because he was worried about her. He had no choice. For her sake, he was holding on to her.

Seri: (apologizing) I was just upset and frustrated earlier.
JH: I know.
Seri: In fact, I’m very grateful for everything.
JH: I know that, too.
Seri: You always say that. (then grips him tightly)

When he said, “I know,” he meant that he understood what she was feeling and what she was going through. He wasn’t exaggerating, mind you. He could read her feelings because he already knew her from before. He remembered her from their encounter in Switzerland. But for some reason, he was hiding the fact that they weren’t strangers from her.

At 49:03, when she asked him how he learned to make coffee, he only mentioned that he learned it when he studied abroad. She teased him, “Did you study abroad? Where? Is it in Switzerland? What did you major in?”

That could have been a perfect time to mention that they’d met before. But he didn’t enlighten her.

Second time the song was played: At 1:11:18. Jung Hyuk was informed that Seri got left behind in the market. He sped off to find her…to the delight (or is it envy?) of the ahjummas.

He rushed off because he was afraid that she would be frightened in the dark.

Once in the market, he assessed the situation. Instead of searching for her in a panic, he bought a candle and lit it. He knew she was afraid. But he also knew that she would see his light and seek it out.

Her teary-eyed expression confirmed his fear. But her standing in front of him also confirmed his belief in her…that she would always walk towards him.

He then tried to make light of the situation. He drew attention to the scented candle. He knew that she wouldn’t want him to see her at her moment of weakness. She was a proud woman.

JH: This time, it’s not just a candle but a scented one. Right?
Seri: Yes.

She smiled at him, and he smiled back at her.

And that’s why I said that the OST was significant. Just like in the lyrics, he constantly worried about her. He knew when she needed him. Even without a word from her,  he was already on his way to her to take care of her.

Here are the lyrics, to save you the trouble of googling it. Credit: lyricskpop.net.

Flower
by Yoon Mirae

I’ve seen a flower smaller than my hand on my way
I’m in love with its little sway like your eyes
Will it fall when it rains?
Will it freeze when it snows?
so I’m worried about you
and I’m worried about you

I’m not used to with these pretty words
I’ve never done anything for you
But my heart was always yours
My only concern is always you
always your way
I’ll be towards you

If this moment is full of happiness
That’s because of you
Always
Please don’t forget, I will always be by your side

A wind came from somewhere
Planted in my heart
A small seed like you
I’ll be your sunshine
Shine on you every day
I’ll take care of you
With watering from my heart
My heart was always yours
My only concern is always you
Always your way, I’ll be towards you

If this moment is full of happiness
That’s because of you
Always
Please don’t forget,
I will always be by your side

Without me, I think you will wither
I really don’t want to leave you alone
The flower blooms and dies
Even if it’s only a short time
I’ll be with you at that moment
My heart was always yours
My only concern is always you
always your way I’ll be towards you
If this moment is full of happiness
That’s because of you
Always
Please don’t forget,
I will always be by your side

8. Epilogue

Of course, by the time he took out his camera from his closet, he already recognized who she was from 10 years ago.

To me, this epilogue is a reprise of the “I’m worried for you” theme of this episode. Not only that, it puts into perspective their leap off the cliff at the beginning of the episode. Her plan to paraglide off the cliff into the DMZ was a suicidal mission because, as Jung Hyuk told her, soldiers would shoot at her even before she touched ground. Jung Hyuk saved her from her hare-brained scheme, making it the second time he saved her from a leap of death.

The first time was in Switzerland.

Back then, he knew that she was suicidal. He overheard her dictating her last message to her family in Korean. To interrupt her suicidal plan, he pretended not to speak Korean, and spoke English. He asked a favor from her, “Excuse me. Could you take a picture of us?” She replied in English, “Okay. Give me the camera.”

Once she committed to taking his picture, she had no choice but to follow him and his fiancée, Dan.

That was how he rescued her. He distracted her and made her walk away. He walked across the bridge and reached the road, all the time expecting her to follow him, like a stray puppy.

That moment told me three things. First, despite her goodbye message to her family, and her death wish, she really didn’t want to die just yet. Second, despite her fear of heights, she braved walking across that bridge to follow him.

Lastly, his smile back then,

just like his smile in the market,

was his way to reassure her that she was going to be fine. He appeared when she needed him most and helped her.

  1. OH.MY.WORD.
Can ANYONE write better then this?Rather, ANALYSE more excellently than this?
Is there an Analyst Award from Tvn?
You WIll win it, hands down, unrivalled.
Congrats. I am truly beyond words. Oh My Word

  2. Hello, I’m your new fan and will follow you banging RJH’s door (because HAND-DRIP COFFEE) *squeals*

  3. Ok. You’re in!

Anybody who can appreciate great coffee is a certified bitch. 😂

  4. 1 – Ohhh I wasn’t sure whether Seri was her Dad’s love child or her Mom’s but thank you. I believe she is her Mom’s base on what you said. Also the name of her shop, Seri’s Choice, is a given too. She is separate from the family.

2 – I thought Seri’s outfit were very homey. It suited her very much.

3 – Isn’t that damaging to the ozone layer and her hair?. 😂 Yes, I thought it needed some wind blowing too to make it real at least.

4 – But they believed her straight away 😁 She looked at that album before she said her name too.

5 – Seri thinks his not powerful enough but he drove with the number plate that’s only given to the top few people. 😄

6 – Agree. It must be a letter from JH’s brother. He also pawned the brothers watch which Seri noticed straight away.

7 – Thanks for the song and the meaning of it. It all came clear with that epilogue and it made me like JH more. I actually like the ost of this drama. ☺️ Oh those clams looked so yummy. I’ll get some this weekend for sure.

8 – JH is an angel disguised as a Captain in the military. He is too good to be true but the things that he does make my heart flutter. 😊

Good morning! 😉 I’ll come back later. 😴

  5. 1. That’s my guess. I could be wrong and she could be her father’s child. 🙂

    2. Her floral skirts reminded me of the ahjumma pants that the cast of 2D1N wore went they worked on the farm. I think the pants are called 몸빼바지 or mom-bbae-ba-ji.

(See what I did there? I’m showing off my new alphabet skills. I want a cookie, please?)

But her skirts must be designer items. I wouldn’t be surprised if Son Ye Jin was wearing Dolce & Gabbana in real life. hahaha

    3. I was annoyed because that’s the whole reason I can’t ride in convertibles when the top down. Without a scarf, my hair flies all over the place even when I’m just going 20 miles an hour. By the time I get to my destination, I usually look like I’m wearing a bird’s nest on my head.

    4. ….it’s also possible that Choe Sam Suk was such a common name that there’s one in every town. Kinda like “Bob Smith” here in the US.

    5. Hahaha. She really doesn’t know anything about North Korea, does she? I remember when she took a bath in that vat in Episode 2, and she had to hang up those plastic sheets. Nope! That would have given me claustrophobia.

    6. Oooh. I didn’t see the watch scene yet. I’m watching Episode 5 today and will try to get a review out by tonight. I’m a seafood lover and I love eating oysters, clams, and mussels. I haven’t eaten raw mussels though…

    7. That song is on my continuous-playback loop along with Luke Bryan’s “Knocking Boots” for a little bit of country music.

    8. JH is an angel. I wonder if this writer is going to insert an amnesia trope. Shudders! I hope not. So far, the interaction between the soldiers and Seri provides the necessary comic relief. I don’t know where the writer’s going with this S.Korean guy/conman and Dan.

Remember, I have an option to bail out if the story goes south after the 8th episode. 🙂 I want to continue reviewing “The World Owes Me a First Love” and “Reply 1988.”

I tried watching “Witcher” on Netflix. @barbrey mentioned it. Whoa! The first 10 minutes were intense; I had to back out. I don’t have the stomach anymore for gore and sorcery. My mind couldn’t cope with the stimuli and just blanked out. 🙂

But yes, kdrama writers are still a long way from this level of world-building.

  6. What a beautiful read! You make kdramas even more in depth than they are viewed. Writers should learn from you!

One other thing I would add to 7. Is how Seri wakes up in JH’s bed after her night of drinking, instead of her typical bed on the floor.

Shows how he cares for her. His love language is definitely “acts of service”.

  7. Manbok hidden note —

Packmule3— i wonder if the “receipt” could be the receipt/proof of the brother’s watch from the pawn shop that Manbok traded in?

  8. I have no experience in paragliding but that scene with both of them looked disturbingly fake. Not only because of the hair.
I imagined if some unattached person holds on to the one attached he at least won’t be higher. Maybe closer to this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/27/hang-glider-forced-cling-on-for-his-life-launching-unattached-footage

Alsooooo congrats for: ” 몸빼바지 or mom-bbae-ba-ji.
(See what I did there? I’m showing off my new alphabet skills. I want a cookie, please?)”

  9. For you! 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 Enjoy it! I’ll be jealous soon because your way ahead of me. In learning Korean. 🤪

I couldn’t get back today as I was very busy.

I’m on episode 19 of R1988 and I thought my heart was going to burst from the lead up to Deoksun and Taek’s kiss! Waaaaaa! 😍 I wanted to do some kicking in the bed but I couldn’t do it because I was in the main living room 😂 Ooooh I’ll have to watch it again. I’ll say more tomorrow but I needed to get my squeal out! 😂

I’ll post tomorrow on the current Reply 1988 thread that you posted. If the blog had a recorder, I’d record what I’m going to say instead 😂

    Ciao! 😉

  10. Okay. I’ll post something on Reply 1988.

I’m behind with my reviews because I was nursing a sick hubby yesterday. 🙂 He was being a bear because it was his third day of bed rest. Nothing could whet his appetite since he couldn’t taste anything…even his favorite chicken tikka massala didn’t do the trick. Ugh.

I must have caught the bug too because my throat feels grotty this morning. I’m going to stock up on my favorite food, too.

I’m finishing up Crash Landing Ep 5.

  11. Thanks for the cookies!!

  12. I also thought he should have wrapped his arms under her arms, so she wouldn’t slip off.

We weren’t given a wide-angle shot but I think that he had his legs wrapped around her (at 12:43)

Thanks for sharing that vid. That was scary. The scariest I’ve been on is a hot air balloon. I’m not doing any paragliding (at my age anyway, it’s too late) because I’m sure I’ll belly-flop my landing.

  13. good one! Yes, a pawn shop would be plausible.

I wonder what’s so special about that watch anyway. How will it lead back to the killers? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

  14. I agreed with all of your prediction and opinion. Your writing really made me impressed. But, I don’t think so JH still remembered SeRi at they first met at Switzerland. Even I travel and had a same flight with strangers for couple of hours, I didn’t remember exactly. He smiled when he saw her at the tree just because he feel funny about her. I believe, he didn’t remember about her at Switzerland. But I agreed that he try to save her from suicide.

  15. Hi, get well soon to your Hubby and you too! Drink lots of fluids. 😊 The sickness that I hate the most are headaches, tooth aches and sore throats.

Take your time in the reviews, you might fight it off better if you rest too.

  16. Just got home from the doctor. 🙁
    Yup. I’m definitely sick, too.

  17. Aigoo! 🙁 Were you able to buy your favourite food?

I was looking up for Reply 1988’s thread in Soompi but I’m not having any luck.

  18. Go to the Shippers forum (not drama forum) and look for the Deoksun/Taecsun(?) thread should be there.

  19. Oh kumawo chinggu! 🙇‍♀️ 🙂

  20. @crabbielife, are you the same who used to give us English synopses on instagram? If so, I’m also a fan of you! I’m trying to remember what show or manwha it was.

    @pkm3, get well soon!

  21. Wow👏👏love reading your reviews. So detailed filled with all sincerity and love. Some sentences it moves me. Thanks God i found this amazingly talented writer. You can be a writer for a novel a romance one, God willing. Anyways a new reader here. Once again thanks for jotting good reviews😘. I love so much this drama CLoY. Am a big fan of sonyejin a simple yet beautiful inside and out❤️

  22. Joining all of you on this! Glad that you are reviewing this 😀 I am slowing down on watching because school has started for us and I cannot indulge too much. CLOY is just nice because I have to wait for the weekends to watch. phew!

Only in dramas are there coincidences that are quite unbelievable…else it won’t be a drama. The encounter in Switzerland and now in N.Korea is….what are the chances!! But for the story I get it. I like that you connected that part about him worrying about her in many points in the drama, and that made so much sense.

Take care @packmule3 and speedy recovery to you and yr hubby!

  23. Are they back in school again?

It snowed here yesterday so I worked from home… or at least I tried to. 🙂 I had to delegate by lunchtime.

I’m finishing up the Trope Alert, part 2 now. Then will work on Ep 6. Yes, it’s a good thing the show’s on weekends. That gives us something to look forward to, right?

  24. Good morning! Are you and hubby feeling much better? I hope so.

  25. I teach my kids and their classes like ballet, sports and art starts with the school terms so I need to be on task! no lazying around bingeing on dramas 😛
    Yay to watching on-going shows!
Soups on winter days sound soothing, get well soon!

  26. I ordered pho for lunch. The beef broth did wonders to my headache.

You homeschool your children?! Wow! RESPECT! That requires patience and major organizational skills. How do you do it? Do you register them online for the upper-level math and science subjects? Are your children close in age?

  27. He’s okay. But I’m only at 70% capacity but I had to go in for important stuff. I’m sure I looked like a hag on camera with my puffy eyebags but I don’t care. 🙂

I like your latest comments on Reply 1988. I’ll try to rewatch Ep 19 (? ?is this the one where they were interviewed about their first kiss?) tomorrow and respond to your points.

  28. I think for Episode 6, there’s a also connection between the promise that he made “As long as she’s in my sight, I’ll protect her. No matter what.” and his request for the extra picture. 🙂

I’ll explain in a bit when I talk about Proust. Hahaha

I’m beginning to sense that this writer connects the ending scene or the epilogue to the opening scene.

  29. Morning! 😊

    Yes, episode 19.

The beef pho noodles was yummy wasn’t it? 😄

  30. Yes! Thanks for the suggestion! It was just what I needed yesterday. I ordered a small bowl of pho noodles with beef brisket, and it cleared my head instantly after the sixth spoon of hot broth. Must be the cilantro, basil… and the peppers. 🙂

I’ll order the same thing for lunch today but I’ve to check if the restaurant can deliver just one item. I don’t have time to walk over there today, unfortunately.

  31. I’m glad you enjoyed the pho. I love it too especially when it rains. 😄

You’re a hard worker, coming in even though you don’t feel 100%. Glad you’re hubby is ok now.

I should go and watch North and South now since I’ve finished R1988. But I’m trying to see whether I can stand The Witcher now. 😁 If you find it gory then I might bail out too. We will see.

I agree too that the epilogue for CLoY seems to connect to the beginning of every episode. I did love that line where he said ‘as long as you’re in my sight, I’ll protect you’. Swoon! 😍

  32. I actually feel bad for going in to work when I was still sick. I wish I could have delegated or rescheduled the interviews. I was able to do one on skype, but the other one had to be face-to-face. Sigh.

Yes. North and South is good. Richard Armitage is a dreamboat.

Yes, there’s a reason he asked for the extra picture. Of course, the obvious reason is he wants it a souvenir. But I thought there’s another reason. And it connects to this promise of his, “As long as you’re in my SIGHT, I’ll protect you.” 🙂

  33. True, because you don’t want it to be caught by other people too.

Yes, I want to get on with the Richard Armitage dreamboat too. ☺️

Ooohhh as long as he has her picture, even if it’s just a picture, he will always protect her? ☺️

  34. You got it, @ agdr03. 🙂 As long as he has her picture, he’ll protect her. Everything that he’ll have to endure, for her sake, will be worthwhile for him.

    You’re goooood, girl.

  35. Nah, where’s my cookie? 😉 It’s romantic and swoon when you hear someone say something like that. That’s dedication for you. ☺️ I wonder how JH will be though when they get separated? He must have liked her way back in Switzerland already. 😊

He wasn’t asking for anything in return too and tries to give her the peace of mind in coming back home. Except she started to like him already. 😊

  36. I was working on my laptop earlier and there’s no emojis and cookies there.

But I’m on my iPhone now so here you go:
    🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

By the way, do you know how to open a dragonfruit? Lol. I think I might have to YouTube this and find out. I was given a box of exotic fruits and half of them, I don’t know their names and how to peel off their skins. 🤪 Like this dragonfruit isn’t the kind of breakfast fruit I can eat on the go like bananas, apples and grapes.

I know, right? He keeps telling her to go forget him because this is just a nightmare for her. But….🤣 that’s reverse psychology. Of course, she’ll think of him more now that he’s pushing her away.

  37. Yeap I homeschool them one is a teen another is elementary school and I have a preschooler. Rather different age so it is not like they can do stuff together, esp for the teen. Dipping my feet in teen hood is hard though!

Btw you can chop dragonfruits into eighths or quarters like oranges (after chopping the ends) and peel out the skin. I prefer chopping them into cubes and storing it a day or two so I can eat as and when. Red flesh ones are sweeter though but the stains!

I am on the side that JH remembered Seri and she made an impression on him. Whether he liked her then…I doubt so. Well it was destiny, or coincidence, as they argued about it. 😁

  38. Thanks for my cookies 😍 I had one of those Walker butter cookies yesterday and it was melt in the mouth. Hubby got excited the other day as it was on sale for $2 from $8, he said get 10 boxes. 😆 He eats it for breakfast.

He grew a dragonfruit once too. The flower of them are soooo pretty. He had one fruit from that then no more. 😄 Sorry blabbing on but I wouldn’t know how to cut it. 😁

Besides pushing Seri away, how can she forget everything that he’s done for her? I wouldn’t think I’d forget him that easily too. 😊

    Are you much better now?

  39. You mean those shortbread cookies that come in a red tartan tin can, right? They’re yummy alright. It had to be with all that butter.

Yes, the dragonfruit is still looking at me woefully this morning from the kitchen counter. Because of @grace’s comment that it leaves a stain, I don’t want to slice it when I don’t have time to scrub off. Hahaha. Can you imagine me going to work with blood-stained hands?

Maybe tonight. Tonight, this dragonfruit will definitely meet my tummy.

I’m now looking at pineapple. How do I eat this? Grrr… why are exotic fruits so hard to eat?

  40. i want to emoji a lol but i can’t at the desktop commenting this. IF your dragon fruit has the white flesh then…no staining! Pineapple….honestly cutting them is an art…I think. I will only buy cut ones or ask the fruit grocer to cut them for me…it is all so thorny! The next level will be a durian 😛

  41. Yes. The pineapple is prickly all over. I give up! I’m going with the Korean pears. lol.

I don’t know who thought that these exotic fruit baskets would make a great gift without enclosing instructions on how to peel, cut, open them. But oh well…as part of my year’s resolution, I said I was going to diversify my fruit intake, so this gift was well-intentioned. I can’t look at a gift horse (or gift dragonfruit and pineapple) in the mouth.

I don’t know what a durian is. But I heard it’s also spiky AND stinky to boot. A couple of days ago, I tried the longan. The skin feels like sand-paper but it was easy to peel off. I thought it would be all fruit inside but it was practically all seed. pwahahaha. I opened five of them then went for the kiwi instead.

  42. Hi that was an amazing review. I’m desperately trying to download the song that comes when they are eating clams. Since I don’t know korean I’m unable to search with the right words. Please help me out. Thanks

  43. Wow! I can’t seem to get over the other song played on this episode too. The one from the scene where they were having clam bulgogi. Hope you can name the title of that song please?
