Crash Landing on You: Learning Hangul

I told you that one of my new year’s resolutions was to learn to read Hangul, didn’t I? Well, it came in handy during today’s episode of “Crash Landing on You.”

I saw what Seri did here. She used the first syllables of each book to spell out her message. I didn’t need subs to read the words.

The first book has the syllable SA.
The second book has the syllable RANG.
The third book has the syllable HAE.

Now, let’s put it all together and we get the word, saranghae, which everybody knows means “heart.”

Just kidding. It means “I love you.”

The fourth book has the syllable RI.
The fifth book has the syllable JEONG.
The sixth book has the syllable HYEOK.

She spelled his name.

Now, if you want to know what app I used to learn to read Hangul, I downloaded TenguGo Hangul on my iphone.

It’s free.

And no, I don’t get anything for mentioning this here because I don’t monetize my blog. In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t run ads here. I find ads a nuisance when I visit other sites so why should I follow their example?

There was a quote at the very beginning of the TenguGo lesson. It said, “A wise man can acquaint himself with them before the morning is over; a stupid man can learn them in the space of ten days.” I figured since I’m on neither end of the intelligence spectrum, I should be fine.

I checked my post entries here and they showed that I began working on the app shortly before 11:47 pm on January 1. I was slogging through it till past midnight. I slept. Then, I must have started working on it first thing in the morning because by 8:10 am, January 2, I was done with the program.

The app worked for me because there were tests that I could do endlessly until I finally recognized the alphabet. Plus, the lessons were straightforward. Here are the simple vowels, here are the simple consonants. Memorize them. Next, here are more complicated vowels and consonants. Deal with them.  🙂

Now, I’ve to beef up on my Korean vocabulary so I know what I’m actually reading. lol. But that will be my resolution for next year….

*************

Ok, drama gods, bring it on! Throw me the next Hangul word. I got this.

Here’s my name, packmule, written in Hangul. My script is still atrocious but I’m working on it.

  1. Nice! You’re too good! 👍🏻😉

I’ll download it today and see how I go. I’ve only two weeks left of school holiday for the boys so hopefully I can catch up with you. 🤞🏻

Yes, I don’t like those ads too so we’re lucky here that you don’t have any.

How’s the breeze from the beach? 😊

  2. The beach trip had to be postponed. 😂 There was snow outside and my husband didn’t want us traveling in the snow. (That wimp.)

So we went outside for walk and breathed in the freezing 🥶 air, and had hot cocoa with marshmallows when we got in.

The ads are really annoying especially when they cover up half of the the screen. I also hate those pop-ups that require clicking on something to get rid of them.

Yes. Download the app but do it all in three, four sittings. It’s kinda like removing band-aid. Just do it quickly and get it over and done with. 😂

  3. Hmmm, my hubby would’ve done the same thing in that case. He’d rather have an issue free drive all the time.

The hot cocoa with marshmallows sound nice though. ☺️

I’ve downloaded it and you’re right, if I want to learn it, I’ll have to do it quickly. I’ll see how I go. Thanks 😊

I’m about to watch episode 9 of CLoY.

  4. Are you? Ok. I’ll watch it then too. Write your comments in the other blog post and I’ll join you — like in our rewatches. 😂

  5. Aww, our good old rewatches was awesome 😃. I’ll see you there then. 😉

  6. Thank you for explaining ! Do you know what the name of the show is in Hangul? As in how to pronounce it?

  7. Whoops. Sorry for the late reply. This was stuck in my in-box.

According to wikipedia, the Korean title of “Crash Landing on You” is 사랑의 불시착

    사 Sa
    랑 Rang
    의 ui

That’s sarangui = Love. You know this because we hear saranghaiyo or “I love you.”

    The second word is:

    불 Bul
    시 si
    착 chak or chag

That’s bulshichak. According to google, that means crash landing or forced landing.

If you want to hear the title pronounced in Korean, just copy and paste this on google translate: 사랑의 불시착

Hope this helps…even if it’s rather late.
