How have y’all been doing? I hope everything’s been swell while I was gone.
I’m back on for a breather from all the craziness in the world.
I’ll be doing a bit of housekeeping on the blog. I’ll let some of the old threads fall down. If you want to retrieve them, just click on the Categories sidebar.
I’m going to post on:
Zombie Detective: Eps 5 & 6
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: Eps 1 & 2
I recommend that you watch “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” if only to watch the lead couple’s first meeting at her wedding. I’ve always a soft spot for this actor Lee JaeWook since I saw him in “Extraordinary You,” and you’ll understand why in this scene.
His stunned look should be on every groom’s face upon seeing his bride.
Then, when the Go Ara said, “Goodbye,” and he replied….
Ugh! Let’s just say he had me at “Hello” “Shireunde.”
It’s too bad that Netflix simply translated his “Shireunde” as “No.” “Shireunde” is one of those few Korean words that *We, Kdrama Bitches* have in our vocab.
I heard it first from Lee Seunggi in “Korean Oddysey.”
It means “I don’t want to.” Lee JaeWook meant that he didn’t want their first meeting to be a goodbye. Of course, his remark bewildered her as she’d never seen him before in her life, so why was he suddenly attached to her?!
But she had a wedding to attend and she left him behind. For now.
And that’s why I’m on board “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol.” Go ahead and watch the first two episodes before I post my “First Impressions” review. You know how I am with spoilers…
******************************
One of my favorite holidays is coming up, Halloween, and I’ve to decorate the house in everything spooky, and . Following CDC guidelines, my hubby and I will be preparing goodie bags for the trick-or-treaters and lining the bags up on the front yard for families to grab and go. I don’t know how many children will be dropping by this year because of this COVID, but less trick-or-treaters means more Snicker bars and M&Ms for me.
I haven’t yet decided on what costume I’ll be wearing. Maybe this year, I’ll go as I am: an old hag.
Here’s a few pictures of autumn in my small corner of the world. I’m not a good photographer so I don’t think I did the pumpkin and flowers justice. hahaha. But I hope these will perk you up as they have my tired soul. Happy weekend, everyone!
Had a few laughs in the first two episodes, even if a little over the top at times. That boy surely is talented at brooding! I think it will be a fun, refreshing show to watch amidst the various options of the month.
Your garden looks so beautiful. I still have not managed to keep outdoor plants alive, so my living room looks like a forest to compensate. Have a great weekends, all.
Happy Autumn @packmule3. Glad to read something from you again. Is it boots and scarves where you live yet?
I would re-watch Search: www Lee Jae-Wook scenes again if you twisted my rubber arm. He was so believable.
Happy packmule3, ladies and gens!😊
And Happy Halloween too🧛♀️
I liked LJW in Beauty Inside & When the Weather is Fine. Favorite scene in Episode 2 is when SW was feeding GRR in the hospital.
Happy Autumn, everybody!
I don’t think the kdrama is meant to be taken seriously which is why I chose it. I need more levity in my world. I’m reserving the picture of his naked torso for my First Impression post. hahaha.
I really can’t take credit for the flowers. 🙂 I’m only an occasional gardener, and my husband is the one with the green thumb, although he’s also the “tree killer” in this household. With our work commitments, we had to hire a lawn service to take care of the mowing, trimming, weeding and stuff or our neighbors would hate us. My sons always wanted to grow corn in the backyard, but the landscaper said the cornstalks would look out of place in a floral garden. Today, however, I feel like rebelling and telling the dude that I don’t care anymore, and I want to grow corn for next summer!!
As it is, the landscaper decided that the tulips and daffodils in the front lawn will be moved to the side and back yards. I just don’t have the energy to fight him over this, so I’m now looking online for big urns and/or planter boxes to give the bulbs safe haven. Once he’s gone, and spring comes, I’m putting those tulips and daffodils back out front — but in planters. hahaha.
Yes, I heard about Lee Jaewook in Search: WWW.
I watched the first few minutes of it, saw that it was about politics (they were discussing election year, right?) and backed out.
Scarves. I’ve been wearing my fall scarves. It’s not boots weather yet. But hubby and I are planning to take a hike tomorrow in the Shenandoah National Park so my hiking boots are ready. It all depends on the fall foliage.
BTW, the trees? I’ve decided on a maple tree. crabapple tree, eastern redbud, and magnolia. I still have one more tree to look at. Probably another dogwood.
I suggested the willow tree, Fern, but my hubby nixed it again. It leaves too much debris, he said.
That’s the nice thing that got me interested in “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” — the second male lead talked about the flowering trees in spring and I could relate. BTW, the second male lead is that publishing editor in “Psycho but It’s Okay.” He looks decent.
Hi John_W. My favorite scene in Episode 2? When he picked her up from the floor (I don’t know why).
He interrupted them, walked over to her, wrapped his arms around her waist and just picked her up, as if he had all the right in the world to take care for her.
That’s my boy right there! He wasn’t aggressive, but he was asserting his role as her primary caregiver, and guardian.
Happy autumn! Have you stocked up on apple cider yet? I just love apple ciders around this time of the year. My husband and I would go to our favorite farms and pick up their gallons of cider. It’s like going on a wine-tasting tour but we meet families with younger children.
Crap, it was Search: WWW; not Beauty Inside. That seaweed slap cracked me up!! And he proceeded to eat the seaweed afterwards had me dying.
Please keep discussing Alice serie events. The plot suddenly twists again.
It has? Wait! I’m not finished writing my review for Episodes 9 and 10!
Look: all I know is the police guy/surrogate father isn’t a bad one. He’s not the killer of JW’s mom.
If you can all please wait…. I just got back home last night and I’ve hours of dramas to catch up on. 🙂
Mmm, fall. It is my favorite season. Time to get to knitting again. As for dramas, I started Do Do. It is cute and funny with a dash of mystery, so I am in! I liked how the ML washed FL’s hair. Plus, there is the piano angle. The other drama I am watching is Lie After Lie, a mellow melo so far, but with explosive potential. I am interested in Brahms and Zombie Detective, but I don’t have the right subscription level. Has anyone watched Tale of the Nine Tailed?
@packmule3, I missed you mucho and am glad you’re back. I hope that your life is not so chaotic and that you get the time to enjoy all of the K Drama riches awaiting you. Am thoroughly enjoying Zombie Detective. It’s a wonderful departure after the emotional Flower of Evil. Lots of laugh out loud moments-even caught a sight gag with rival detectuve wearing a counterfeit soccer jersey for Merssi (not Messi) and a misspelled sponsor-Rakoten. I love the BB Cream gag which also brings to mind the cultural difference of Korean actors and men outwardly wearing make-up and even advertising lipstick. I’m now a Choi Jin-hyuk fan, having watched Emergency Couple before Zombie and also watching him in Rugal-saw him singing on YouTube. The man is multi-talented(his dance sequence in front of the intestine restaurant was fantastic(I have two left feet and have been known to move in the wrong direction in aerobucs and zumba classes almost causing somebad accidents to my fellow excercisers-so I have a real appreciation for people who can dance and move through complex choreography). The man is also gorgeous-you see a lot of his body in Rugal (how superficial of me-hey, I’m old but not blind yet). But seriously, it’s really good to have a lot of belly laughs nowadays. Comic relief is true relief.
For those of you Bitches who might want to see a real interesting woman who is travelling the world by motorcycle, check out Itchy Boots in YouTube. She is a thirty something Dutch woman who is a geologist by profession. And her videos are not long but interesting to see how she manages in all types of conditions. She’s in Scandinavia now. I find her good to watch in between dramas. Her programs are in English-helpful after readjng subtitles. Just want to give a shout out about a fearless young woman.
I love your garden pictures and envy you your walk in Shenandoah. My husband and I did a road trip there after he retired-such a beautiful area and we also loved riding on Skyline Drive. Please enjoy and most of all to you and your family and all the commentors, be well and safe.
And she’s back! 💃 💃 💃
Beautiful garden there and the flowers, I love seeing flowers all the time! 🥰🥰🥰 my Hubby is the gardener too because he has the green thumb. He’s put a few Mother In Law in pots and they look pretty. Maybe he loves my Mom. 😂
Relax and enjoy the dramas. I’ll try to watch Do Do because it’s in Netflix. Always handy if it’s there. ☺️
@John L, yes. His makjang character was so evil, whist his actual www character was so sweet. That take down tackle and the aftermath were so impressive. 😊
@packmule3, the 1st episode was hard to watch but it had to set up the rest of the drama.
Off topic: In this part of the world, cider is always alcoholic, otherwise it’s called juice. But I love both.
Off topic again. Ref trees, we can get dogwood but white only. In Seattle the flamingo pink Cornus Kousa, was popular and I miss them very much. I suspect that they may need acid soil if they did well there. The autumn foliage was colourful as well. The trees you have chosen will be gorgeous throughout the seasons.
Here is another multi-season small tree: Amelanchier lamarckii: white flowers among coppery young foliage, berries for the birds and finally fiery autumn foliage. One came with our house and it was a lovely surprise. The leaves are green in the summer.
Crataegus persimilis’Prunifolia’ if you like reds in the autumn.
The rhs has a small flowering trees page. I somehow can’t imagine your property without an oriental flowering cherry or several.
It’s the best time of year to plant trees. I envy you visiting garden centres to browse for new ones. 🍂🍃🍂
@Snow Flower, watched tales/tails and loved it.It moves quickly
there’s wit and some violence. the three leads are well cast. Also beautiful photography. Try it. I bought the good Viki Pass and have no regrets. Catching up on so much. But I’m also retired and during COVID, it’s a destresser
Welcome back @packmule3 👍. Thanks for checking in. I dropped Alice because of the mother-son romance that seemed to persist in the background consistently despite all denials by the FL 🙄. Currently not watching anything. Garden needs lots of work. Decided to get back into suburban “homesteading” once more after a LONG hiatus.
hahaha. Homesteading? Do you mean grow your own veggies? We tried that a couple of times when the kids were young. But we just don’t have time to take care of the patch now. And we also have deer because our house backs into parkland.
Like, we used to have azaleas as a natural border, but the deer loved to graze on them, so dear hubby decided to just replace the azaleas with boxwood bushes, holly, and catmint.
Same with roses. The landscaper said he wanted rose bushes. Ha! Rose bushes are also “deer-candy.” I didn’t want to argue with his plan since there’s a warranty on the plants and trees. If those rose bushes he ordered don’t work out, I can ask for a replacement next year. lol.
We rely a lot on take-out food for dinner; we’re spoiled for choice. It’s easy to order Japanese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, Moroccan, Ethiopian, etc., food. If it’s home-cooked meal, it’ll probably be the same-old steak and potatoes, baked salmon, pasta, salad, casserole, meatballs, and so on.
I don’t know about Alice. I want to drop it but I know a couple of people waiting for my review.
Happy to hear from you @pm3! I can imagine your beautiful garden, I love garden especially the big ones but I know it’s hardwork to maintain it’s beauty. I love autumn and I don’t know if I will experience this season ever again but miracles do happen! Thanks for mentioning Do Do Sol…. drama, will check it out!
Thanks for the tree tips, Fern. Yes, I’m leaning towards a dogwood tree, but I’ll look into your tree recs. I just don’t want oak or fir trees.
And you’re right! I was looking for trees that would look distinctive all year round. I’m tired of evergreens. Although they’re good for privacy screens, they’re just boring to look at, unless it’s Christmas time, and then we decorate them with Christmas lights. But for 11 months of the year, they look like green wall.
Glad you are back @packmule! And happy autumn, your garden looks so beautiful. So nice that your hubby is the one with a green thumb. And maple and magnolia trees are gorgeous! We only have a tiny yard and planted a fiddle leaf, it’s now gotten really big and we might have to trim it. Enjoy your Halloween!
@packmule3 chickens – incubating eggs. And yes maybe growing vegetables. Trying to get some sort of permaculture system happening. Buzz word seems to be self sustenance nowadays. So yes…homesteading. 😂
I love the gifs you use – bulls eye each time.
Where is this gif motherlode then?
The pumpkin patch is rich.
Do you know you can make pumpkin flower fritters. Dip in batter and fry. Batter can be of any kind – your choice. Rice flour – chickpea flour – mix flour.
It’s a delicacy in Asian and South Asian cuisine.
@packmule3 Happy autumn! So happy to see a post from you again🤩🤩
That pumpkin and those flowers all look perfect for fall weather..decked in fall colors.
I’ve started watching Tale of the Nine tailed Fox starring Lee Dong Wook and Jo Bo Ah. Liking it so far – good blend of supernatural and thriller and appropriate for Halloween season🎃🎃
Okay. I’ll open a thread for y’all. 🙂
Hi @pkml3 glad to read you and know that you’re fine and heading for a nice hike.
I caught the first 2 episodes of Tale of the Nine Tailed and like the dynamics of the main leads. Some slight differences, there’s no coyness about cohabitation (which I appreciate), although he has to save her a few times she’s no shrinking violet or hopeless damsel herself, also it’s reasonable that he steps in since the attacks are by non-humans.
Also interesting, a twist to the premise, it’s not just that he thinks she might be his long, lost love, but she thinks he killed her. So is it really worth it giving up all his position and family (cute, pain in the butt, evil brother) for hundreds of years of menial toil, waiting for a human being to reincarnate, who ultimately may not appreciate it?
The mystery of the misisng parents, too, is intriguing, and the question about whether FL is all that she appears to be.
I loved the meta about how our gumiho commented on the incorrect dressing of a Grim Reaper on the TV show, because he’s something of an expert on Grim Reapers LOLOL.
Thanks, GB. I’ll look into it again. I skimmed through Ep 1 earlier and I couldn’t feel Lee Dong Wook and his female lead. I liked that she wasn’t stupid. At first, I thought she was dumb enough to bring home a killer with her. But was mollified when I saw that she’d left him a note.
Yes, I get the sense that the subject was the value of self-sacrifice. But if she thinks his act of self-sacrifice was in reality, an act of self-preservation (i.e., he killed her in order that he could live), then there’s going to be a conflict too in their perspective on hope.
He was able to survive on hope that she’d be reincarnated after a thousand years. She however would have no reason to hope since she believed that her lover betrayed her.
I’ll check it again when I come home from the hike. I need mountain air to detox my brains. Maybe I’ll be in the mood to look at Gumihos after communing with trees and wild animals. 🦊
@GB I found that comment on Grim Reaper’s dressing sense super funny too🤣🤣
By the way, I do not think the lady in the kast scene is the PD at all but someone impersonating her (some other supernatural being he has killed in the past as part of his duties). Did you see the snake like markings that appeared on her skin? I don’t think she is a human and he was fooled by her face. The real PD may be back at the guest house.
I’m liking this for the mystery element as much as the creep factor (the romance is yet to kick in). How did her parents truly disappear and what’s wrong with that island and why are all the heads turning up?
Happy that there’s someone else watching this with me😍
@agdr03 Are you watching this too?
@packmule3 Yes, I too like it that the FL is not dumb and is brave even in the face of unnatural things happening around her.
I also like cool Lee Dong Wook in this role so far – just the right mix of ruthlessness and secretly not so bad at heart. Also like Kim Bum as the unabashedly villainous bro.
@pkml3 Yes, precisely that point about paradoxical points of view – self-sacrifice or self-preservation.
If I don’t watch it for the good stuff, I may watch it from a cynical viewpoint. Often enough shows start with smart and kickass female leads who become dumb and weak as they ‘fall in love’. I’d like to see that this show does not go the same way or if it does, I may hang around long enough to denounce it LOL.
I wish I had a mountain to hike in with clean, cool air and lots of space. I’ll have to settle for a hill, surrounded by cars and housing. Tell us if any tree spirits or animals speak to you, like they did in the gumiho show. Communing with trees and animals may have a different meaning. Hehheheh!
Yes girlfriend @Phoenix, I’m watching it. It picked my interest in the 2 episodes and the quick pacing was good. I am intrigued by her missing parents and whether she is his lover reincarnated. Even with the creepy factor I’m able to handle it 😊
@agdr03 High five, girlfriend 🙌
It’s not too creepy, else I would have thought twice about it too😛
@Phoenix @agdr03 @Snow Flower @Old American Lady
Hey great, if we’re watching TotNT, we can keep each other company on this show!
Good point @Phoenix. Maybe that really wasn’t our FL at all. Not only did she have those strange markings but she suddenly became strong. She might be another supernatural ‘being’ who can’t take those herbal remedies on their skin LOL. However the way it was shot had her first talking to the elderly ladies about the head, and finding out about other heads that had been found.
She’s shown on the phone with her assistant talking about this, and she runs after the panicking fisherman who attacks her with a hammer. So there seems to be no stage at which she got replaced. It seemed more like that there was another spirit hiding inside her that woke up because the herbs burnt her. Or rather, the non-human part in her couldn’t take the herbal cure and was driven into the open.
She may also be experiencing supernatural attacks or attempts to contact her which are made to seem like dreams. The first time was when she was a child and witnessed the replacements of her parents at the freak accident, and in Episode 2 she thought she had a dream of her mum throwing the head at her. This coincides too neatly with the head being found near the island.
I hope this will be a fun and crazy show and not too stressful with the scary bits. 😀
@GB You could be right. I need to rewatch to see if there was any point where there could have been a switch. Something weird is also happening with the other helper in that boat, the one who got away in the forest – seems like hevis hiding something. Till now, this show is more of a mystery to me anx ends on cliffhangers which keep me hooked.
It will be fun watching it together 😊
@Phoenix and @GB, yeah let’s not have too many scary/creepy bit but then again it’s a fantasy and supernatural drama so I think there might be a few more. 😄
Hopefully I’ll be able to handle it. 🤞🏻😁
It’ll be good to watch with you both, @Snow Flower and @Old American Lady. ☺️
Thanks in advance for the TotNT thread, BBQ! 🍪🍪🍪
Rara was so lovely in that wedding gown. Like a fairy tale princess. And the dog was just super adorable. I watched the first episode hoping it would be fun, but not so sure after episode 2.
Yes, I bought the Viki membership too, @Old American Lady. It was worth it. And it was a cheaper than a monthly visit to a therapist. 🙂
But for those who aren’t members and are interested in signing up, remember there are two levels of membership.
The Standard is $5/month or $50/year. You get 2 months free when you opt for the annual subscription.
The Plus w/ Kocowa is $10/month or $100/year. You also get a 2-month discount.
What’s the difference between the two?
I believe there are some shows that are “exclusive” so you can’t access them if you’re on Standard membership. I didn’t pay attention to the titles.
Or there may be episodes that aren’t immediately available for viewing. You might have to wait a couple of weeks or so before you can access them. I’m not sure about this, so don’t take my word for it.
I recommend waiting for membership sales. IIRC, they had sales during Christmas time, CyberMonday, Mother’s Day, and Valentine’s Day. My membership is due every December because I availed of the sales when I first joined Viki.
You can also sign up for a trial membership. That’s free for a month (?). Just don’t forget to cancel the membership before the end of the trial period so your credit card won’t be charged.
I have a Standard Viki membership. Just waiting for the Plus membership to go on sale.
Not entirely on topic, but happy to provide a small piece of trivia. I live in one of the five biroughsbof New York City. It is allowable to raise chickens in the city (my neighbor has a nice chicken coop and has lost a few hens to chucken hawks). However, it is illegal to have roosters. Also, other fowl are rampantbhere including Canada Geese, Brandts and wild Turkeys. The turkeys actually rulevand have nonfear of humans. Heaven help you if they’re nesting on your property. They will attack. Onevwoman had to get animal control because the turkey nested in front of her door. When it becomes appropriate I’ll tell you about all the wild life that can be found in NYC(like ckyotes in Central Park). Happy autumn everyone.
Hi there!
I’m only slowly getting caught up on my massive k-drama to-watch list, and this site has been super helpful in that regard. Thanks, @packmule3!
I’m watching “Record of Youth” on Netflix, and I’m
not sure how I feel about it just yet. I might abandon it in favor of “Do Do La…” instead, if it doesn’t grab me more soon.
Loved your photos here! No big pumpkins for us this fall, just lots of raking, lol. We’re going to do baggies of candy for trick-or-treat as well, and I may just skip the costume this year and just be myself, an ahjumma-aged person who is slightly cranky about 2020.
@Packmule3, I thought I’d write you a note here to let you know I haven’t completely disappeared from this site. I haven’t been watching the same dramas as the BoD gang. I started Maiden Holmes awhile back, and it is entertaining in its badness. I’m also keeping pace with DYLB and RoK, and will see them through, but they don’t spur me to comment on them much. I’ve got a couple of episodes it TSNF left to go. I loved the first episode of TSNF so much I stood up and cheered at the end, but episode 2 and after have not risen to that level; each subsequent episode seems worse. But as one of the other Bitches said, I’m a completionist, and I’ll finished these.
Otherwise, I’m busier than usual because my husband and I, unable to travel for fun as we used to do, purchased a cabin in our local mountains. We closed escrow at the beginning of October, and I’ve been up there most days since. It came fully furnished, including long-expired food in the refrigerator. In general the place is in great shape, and the previous owner’s tastes were excellent, but she did love knickknacks, and I don’t, so lots of little shelves with tchotchkes are coming down. I’m also culling a lot of things out of cupboards, closets, and drawers. I’m hoping to have it set the way I like it before the first snow.
Congratulations on your new home-away-from-home, Welmaris! Sounds like you’re having fun sorting through the bric-a-brac.
Remember, if you find a gun in the attic, basement, etc., do not try to transport it. Instead, call your local ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives). 🙂
If you find love letters, though… I hope you can return them to their rightful owners. That would be so romantic. 🥰
