Thanks again @pkml3. Finally got around to a first and quick viewing of Ep 5. Yes, your take and @BeingWritten in the other post’s take on the evil being not just your average neighbourhood level or rich boys’ level evil is about right. We were given clues and more than hints of how evil people attract evil spirits and it seems to be the case in Jungjin. Ga Mo Tak tells So Mun in Ep 2 that there is lots of evil in Jungjin, and that’s why they are stationed there.
Ep 4 and 5 confirm that murders are being committed and evil abounds with spirit help and encouragement.
I like that show has started on the Mo Tak subplot and Ha Na’s backstory.
And we have been proved correct in saying that SM can summon the Territory but without yet knowing how he does it. Sometimes it pops up when he’s just waiting around or in Ep 5 while he was sweeping, but those times the Territory was small. At other times it appeared very clear, big and strong, and that was when he had to fight.
So his next project is figuring out how to summon the Territory at will so that the Counters will have the upper hand, especially with Level 3 spirits.
I’m assuming So Mun summoning the territory is linked to his emotions. So when he is angry and also when he is happy; that scene where he was sweeping outside he seemed content and smiling, was he humming? No spoilers but there were other times he had strong emotions where the territory wasn’t summoned. Guess we’d need more examples to find the common themes of the summoning.
The beat down they got from the level 3 spirit in the elevator was brutal to watch!
Looks like the corruption runs deep! I feel sorry for Detective Kim, it must be so demoralising to work in such an environment where cases are being buried and corruption is open!
His friends are honestly top notch, so glad they are there to support him no questions asked!
@Esst3 About corruption running deep… I hope it’s not also the case in the Afterlife!!! I was not sure if the year 2013 had entirely been removed or that only the parents of So Mun who died in 2013 could not be found.
In Ep 6, we find out why they are not in the records, so I hope it’s only them who are missing, and that’s all that the missing 2013 meant.
His friends are rather too curious for their own good, but they really know how to care for So Mun.
It’s a pity that no Territory was summoned in Ep 6. I kind of missed all those pretty coloured lights!!
I’m glad that So Mun now knows the truth and that the investigation can get more fully underway with him on board and helping. Better yet, the whole team can get involved now, because they are dealing with evil spirits and not just human affairs and it’s not ‘just revenge’.
I like the manhwa-ness of the show that is intentionally displayed. And the funny bits had me hooting with laughter.
Does their Counter Financier never sit and eat with them? I only ever see him breezing in and out of their store and saying he’d like to eat but ‘see you later!’
I pity Cheongsin the level 3 evil spirit for his experience with his father. He just wanna be recognized and be treated as a son by his father 😢. Thus doing all the bad deeds at his father’s command. It’s so sad that in the end, his father attempted to murder him. And being the evil spirit that he is, he eventually killed his father.
He still is an evil spirit though, since in his late teens/early 20s. But knowing a bit of a backstory sure make wonders with changing perspectives for the criminals.
I am curious about the Counter financier. It’s great that they have a wealthy businessman as one of them but is he actually doing his job as a counter? He is counted as a counter but he seems to be not doing any counter activity at all 😂. I would also like to see his partner. So far we have Wigen, Usik, and the other 2.
@GB interesting point about corruption in the afterlife! But from what we’ve seen so far I don’t think so. Yes So Mun’s friends are curious but I still think they are taking his changes quite well. I know if that was me I’d have so many more questions and would want answers yesterday.
@LeeDale9198 yes it was rather sad to watch, Cheong Sin wanting love and acceptance and being deprived of it. Must be hurtful seeing that his father is capable of it because he shows it to his other son.
Mr Choi was the first Korean counter, so he probably doesn’t chase spirits anymore but is still a counter since he’s helping with the financial side of things.
@LeeDale9198 and @Esst3
Yes, the more greatly evil character that we know becomes one of the most pathetic ones suddenly. We feel so much compassion for the broken ‘child’ that he is, while hating the wicked deeds that he does. We now really want him to be ‘rescued’ and not just punished. And we need to have released, all the many souls he has trapped inside him.
I have to admit that when he smiled and called the car junkyard chief ‘dad’, I didn’t recognise him as the bloodthirsty killer. He was just a little boy, glad to have his dad’s attention, and glad to be given something to do that would please his dad.
I’m wondering from the encounters of Shin with other evil spirits and the Counters, whether all spirits can sense each other or whether Shin is now so powerful, that he is able to sense Counters who are not really present near him, but in memory, as well.
@GB yes I noticed. I haven’t been able to focus properly this week on the new shows. Also a lot of scenes in this show really make me so uncomfortable because I hate violence and bloody scenes, so that elevator scene was too much for me, the evil character being abused by his dad? Also too much. I felt triggered. So I’m going to pace my self with this.
Yes exactly! There’s a vulnerability he had with his dad in those scenes where you can see that he just wants his dad to be happy with him and say “well done”, buy him cake on his birthday e.t.c He’s 26 (if I remember correctly) but the softness in his voice made him seem 6, I honestly felt sorry for him!
But I’m not sure if redemption will be in the works for him. He’s responsible for the death of 3 people close to the counters and is setting himself up to be quite a formidable opp. And don’t they normally hand the possessed people to the police after removing the spirit? But that would be an interesting turn of events, if CS is recruited to join the counters in their fight. It could deal with the idea of learning to forgive even the greatest of enemies who have inflicted the deepest hurt!
GB you’ve remembered me of something I was thinking about, how CS was able to see and speak to Hana when they went back to So Mun’s memory. I understand he is quite powerful now as a L3 spirit but was this the case 7 years ago? The drama is still laying the groundwork for the rules and dynamics of this universe, so it will be interesting to find out.
I kinda ship Cheongsin and that other L3 evil spirit lady 😂😅. Since she is still possessed by her evil spirit, I wonder if/when she will be released (I’m 90% positive she’s going to get out of jail/prison, with how corrupt the police force is), then join forces with Cheongsin.
I rewatched the previous episodes while waiting for the next ‘release’ on the weekend, and saw one cute meta scene that I’d forgotten.
In Ep 6, Mae Ok tries to be the good group leader by insisting that Mo Tak and So Mun stay out of human affairs, and finds that even Ha Na is now on their side. She orders them to not tell her anything that involves interfering with human affairs, and so they keep quiet. Then she bursts saying that she’s the only lonely one, and blows out her stove lighter.
At that moment Jang Mul walks in, asking ‘Who’s lonely?’ and Mae Ok stares at the stove lighter, wondering if she had summoned Jang Mul the way Ji Eun Tak had summoned the Goblin. LOL.
I find this show interesting that although they are few and far between, the funny moments are effective and make their mark, in an otherwise serious and at times, rather violent show.
Hey there! I am almost there with you!As I said @GB I would we watch TUC!
What an interesting story so far! I am trying to understand how they are going to proceed!
@GB I noticed the Goblin like scene as well! Ahjumma is playing Eun Tak’s aunt in Goblin!
@Cleopatra, Yes!!! I didn’t remember that until you mentioned it. Mae Ok was the unlikable aunt in Goblin, who ultimately died and became a bad ghost too!!! What a good joke that now she gets to play the good ahjumma, who did not die, who blows out the flame, and gets her very own ‘suitor’ to pop-up in the form of Jang Mul. Super hidden reverse meta there!
°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
@GB indeed!
Kalimera! 🙂
I have just finished watching Episode 3 and starting on Episode 4 – the violence is getting to me though.
I have tried to find a reference from Episode 3 – when Su Mon is told by his friend Ju-yeon – something to the effect. I have known you for so long that you had cake at my 1st period pary. I then looked up internet references. I could not find anything specific on Korean parties – is it common to have 1st period parties? Is it traditonal or very modern
I am now watching episode 4 – still so much violence.
