The thread is now open for SPOILERS, discussions, analyses, rants, and…lists. lol.
My favorite flop ever.

She reminds me of a whale breaching.
I’ll also start compiling a short list of quips about marriage from BongHwan.
1. Lady Choi says, “We’re not performing an ancestral.” BongHwan answers, “A wedding is basically a funeral.”
2. On marital misunderstandings
BongHwan: Marital relationships thrive on misunderstandings.
Dad: What do you mean?
BongHwan: Without misunderstanding, you wouldn’t even get married in the first place.
Meaning, if you really knew your spouse before the wedding, and if you really knew what marriage entailed, you would have avoided marriage at all costs.

Let’s enjoy the show!!!

Since there’s still no open thread for this week’s ep, I just gonna comment here instead.
I just wanna say I love love love how they have matching colors in their outfits for today 😍 The light pink top/sleeves and that bluesh greenish lining or something… 😍😍😍 Love the color coordination so much, I’m obsessed with it right now

Also was obsessed with the hairdo she donned last episodes 😍. https://t.co/W4A2SQoS5z
Maaaaaaaa! The forbidden act is happening 😱😧🤯😱🤪🤯😧😦😵 Omg omg omg lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are you watching this live??
No @packmule3. Just saw some spoiler posts on instagram..
Nothing really happened, just some intense makeout session with I don’t know if Soyong or Bonghwan initiated… That…was…intense.
whew that kiss from last week turned into a full blown make out session initiated by SY/BH
i think we also have more clarity on what transpire in the well
and BH introduce the concept of fan club and anti fan LOL
Finished Ep9
Little HwaJin scared me. How can she be that manipulative at such a young age. When she said to young SoYong that the way to meet her mother is to die, was she goading SoYong?
And when the little king came out of the well, little HwaJin quickly flipped the book to hide SoYong’s name.
The production did find two little actress that are very similar. Kudos to them.
Wait.
Was my theory wrong then? Was it Soyong (with the help from ByeongIn) who rescued the young Prince from the well and Hwajin just claimed afterwards that it was her therefore she was the “fake” Soyong? Did Hwajin really save the Prince?!! 🤪 Lol! I was so sure that the Little Mermaid was the clue. 😂😂
Oh well… Better luck next time. 🍀
I’ll watch the two episodes back to back when the subs are out.
No you are right.
The one who rescued the young prince was SoYong with the help of ByeongIn. But after they opened the well they run away because they heard someone coming.
Little HwaJin observed all this in hiding and when the little prince climbed out the first person he saw was little HwaJin so he assumed that HwaJin was the person he was with at the well and the one who rescued him.
Btw tvn is calling SoYong/BongHwan mash-up SoBong in their caption/tagline LOL.
Ahhh… so the theory holds up. Good because I had more theories to toss out if that one didn’t pan out: that the Soyeong and HwaJin were switched at birth, or that HwaJin was an illegitimate child of Soyeong’s dad. You know, how kdramas always love these “birth secret” tropes. 😂😂
But if that’s the case then I’m going to rethink this Lake Incident. Up until now, we believe HwaJin’s flashback that Soyeong jumped into the lake to kill herself. I’m going to be open to the possibility that HwaJin actually pushed the Queen in. She could have been trying to stop the Queen from leaving by grabbing onto her hanbok, but “accidentally” pushed her in when she reached out to grab it.
I suddenly thought of Mr and Mrs Smith as I watch BH and the King hide each other’s secret/ carry one their plan. kekeke… I believe SY’s consciousness comes and goes when BH is in his most vulnerable state i.e. drunk, sleeping like a baby… I think feel like smacking the king for using SY. BH leading the king’s fan club is really funny. lol
Big mistake for HJ to disclose who she is to the Jo queen, me think.
@packmule3 and the ither commenters-I was starting to get lost in the palace intrigue and thank you for clearing everything up. There is so much to enjoy in this drama, including the way the production uses costuming to elaborate plot and character. I recently read an article about how jewelry and costume colors are used to define characters in Bridgerton and I’ve read Terry Dresbach posts about how she defined character and story in Outlander (a kiltnis just not a kilt). It’s all about story telling. So your comment on color coordination resonated.
Is it just me or does the king arc is much more interesting now? He looks like he got injected with energy supplement.
A lot going on on Ep10; Now we know who has the ledger, the king’s next move, the grand queen dowager looking into the king’s real personality, HwaJin getting more desperate, minister Kim is aware of the missing ledger and queen dowager offered the king her hand.
@Ella, I think so too. He is taking advantage of his position to enjoy his time, getting royal concubines for himself and using his skills to please the Grand queen dowager. After all he said so that returning will mean going back to his vegetative body in the modern times. I am also worried about the actual SoYong because she is clearly not like BongHwan, and when the time comes for him to leave (if he ever does), she will not be the spunky character that everyone got used to.
I am getting curiouser and curiouser as to what will happen and it is making me want to watch what happens next.
Nice post. Enjoyed reading it. I really love the dual personality played by Mr. Queen. Very good acting.
Anyway, wanted to read the latest post. Could you please email me the password.
Thanks.
@grace, I agree about the original SoYong being so different from BH. When SoBong walked floatingly up to the King saying she is his perfect queen, he got really confused and asked her to behave like herself.
Am blown away by Shin Hye-sun’s performance. She manages to pull off the comedy, gender differences and sad backstory in a very natural way. I hadn’t realized she was the tragic heroine in Hymn of Death where she was completely different. And now I’m also watching her in Still 17 (thirty but 17) where she plays the part of an accident victim where she wakes up 13 years after being comatose at age thirty still thinking herself a teen. she is so impressive here capturing the age disparity, confusion, tragedy seemlessly. She is a new favorite, who’s work I intend to follow
I’d appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.
@Old American Lady, Shin Hye Sun had an important role in Forest of Secrets Season 1. I also remember her from She Was Pretty and School 2013. 30 but 17 is a great feel-good healing romance. Enjoy!
I have been binging on all Mr. Queen episodes for the past couple of days. I still need to watch Episode 10 to be caught up.
I just recently discovered this blog when all attempts to wait and binge this drama after the finale came to nothing.I love that every time I read your take on the action, it makes me notice and appreciate elements that I missed. Keep up the awesome work!
@Snow Flower, Thank you so much. I’m going to watch everything that you recommended. I actually did watch She was Pretty, but paid a lot of attention to the main leads, especially second male lead Siwon, who was fun quirky. Bitches has taught me how to pay attention to so much more. It’s all good. Thanks so much again.
Hi @Mildred, You’ve come to the right place. @packmule3 and her merry group of regulars are a wonderful resource for all things K Drama (Asian Content in general) and a host of all kinds of other subjects that you never knew were part of the Drama canon. The blog is not always serious-it’s mostly informative but can also be downright silly. Do yourself a favor and look up the rules of discussion on prior posts. They are easy and in some cases funny like don’t do the fangirl (and I’m doing this in caps, fair warning) OPPA stuff that you see on the web. And the very best thing about this blog is that there is respectful discussion in a safe plwce for comments-a troll free zone. Enjoy!
When will you upload Mr.Queen ep 9&10 analysis?🥺 Ive been checking your website for days
@Cia i’m waiting for it too!
I’m actually getting confused because I see that the Queen is starting to open their heart for the King. The kiss that initiated by the Queen was the peak of my confusion. Lol. Was it Soyong or Bonghwan? Why everytime The Queen do the skinship (touching, or anything) Bonghwan seems very angry to Soyong.. so did the Queen wanted to get close with the King or is it because of Soyong memory? Is there a possibility that a little part of Soyong’s soul is in the Queen’s body also? Can Bonghwan communicate with Soyong? Hahaha sorry I’m just curious..
@moonstar512, I’ve noticed that while the voice, memories and emotions are Soyong’s, the thoughts, speech and actions are Bonghwan’s. I think the kiss initiated by the Queen was Bonghwan because the Queen pushed the King up against the wall with the hand by the head (a stereotypical guy move.) However, when the King went in for the 3rd kiss after Byeong In and the Queen’s father left, Soyong’s emotions were taking over. Bonghwan was angry because Soyong’s emotions were affecting his actions. I think the prevailing theory is Bonghwan is a reincarnation of Soyong. Or maybe Soyong’s soul was repressed and is now retaking control. I’m leaning towards reincarnation because that would explain why before the Queen fell into a vegetative state, Bonghwan felt like he was having a heart attack whenever he experienced the Queen’s memories since one’s future self isn’t supposed to occupy the same timespace as one’s past self. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it until future episodes prove otherwise.
