BTW, if you’re wondering why I “encourage” drinking on rewatches, it’s to show our readers here the right way to social drinking, and to counteract the drinking culture as depicted in kdramas.
One of my biggest pet peeves in kdramas is how the characters, especially the female leads, always end up stupid drunk.
This is packmule3’s “Mommy” rules on how to drink responsibly. I gave my sons similar advice when they were growing up.
Before going to the party:
1. Eat up.
Order pizza. Eat pasta. Fill up your tummy before going to the party, so alcohol isn’t the only thing sloshing in there.
2. Charge your cellphone.
Or bring a charger or those extra battery. You don’t want to have a dead phone when you need to call UBER.
3. Know your limits and STICK with them.
If one glass is your limit, then stick with it. There’s no harm in asking for water and chugging on it. If you want, remember the names Shirley Temple (grenadine/pomegranate syrup and Sprite) or Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade), and order them.
4. Don’t drink medicine.
Sometimes you forget: don’t take medicine for your cough, cold, headache, if you’re planning on drinking afterwards.
5. Don’t drink while depressed.
Or emotional. You tend to drink more.
At the party:
1. Graze on snacks.
Same principle. While at the party, snack up. Try to avoid the salty ones, though, that will make you thirsty.
2. Have a designated driver.
A designated driver won’t touch alcohol. No drinking and driving. If you’re all drinking, then UBER home.
3. No to binge-drinking.
Like you shouldn’t binge-watch, you shouldn’t binge-drink either. I say one glass an hour is good enough. Make it last.
4. Be careful with those fruity alcoholic drinks (coolers?)
Sometimes you consume more.
5. Avoid the punch bowl.
Because who knows if somebody spiked it.
6. Keep an eye on your drink.
Same principle. If you leave it unattended, you don’t know if somebody will touch it.
7. If you must play those drinking games…
then you won’t keep track of the number of drinks. Designate a buddy you can trust who’ll tackle you to the ground should you start removing your clothes and dance naked on the table.
8. Squad rules.
Look after each other. If one of your friends is inebriated, it’s time for you to head home. Don’t leave your drunk friend behind.
*Note to a guy: if one of your female friends/acquaintances is drunk, escort her home but make sure you’re accompanied by another one of her FEMALE friends. This is to protect yourself from possible rape accusation. You never know….
So that’s it. My “mommy” guide to safe drinking. Alcohol is really nothing to be afraid of, if you know how to respect it and yourself.
Wise words, @pkml3. The son of a friend of mine actually did get almost ‘charged’ with molest because he brought a female friend back to her room when she was drunk. He lost his scholarship and had to restart elsewhere. Never be alone with just 1 other person!!
Wise advice, @Packmule3. Have your sons acknowledged, by now, that you had their best interests in mind and weren’t just being a buzzkill?
It does bother me to see the drinking culture depicted and seemingly accepted in South Korean dramas. I imagine the rate of alcohol-related liver disease is high where such drinking is not only tolerated, but expected. But I don’t think what we see in Kdramas is exaggerated. It seems the same pressures on working people to drink together parallel what happens in Japan. When I’ve been in Japan I’ve seen men in business suits passed out on subway platforms being ignored by other commuters.
Last night I completed my first watch-through of Start Up. Overall, I found the drama enjoyable and give it an enthusiastic thumb’s up. As for my being able to join the rewatch of Episode 4, I have two strikes against me: it being an uncomfortably (for my sleep patterns) early hour in the morning, and I accidentally left my laptop at the cabin on Wednesday. I won’t be returning to the cabin until next Thursday evening, as I’m committed to taking my sister-in-law to medical and dental appointments. I can watch the show on my Roku TV, but any comments I’d want to type would have to be done on my phone.
I saw that Humans of New York has just finished featuring an 11-part story about a woman who started up a business. Her story dovetails so well with the Kdrama Start Up, and is particularly remarkable because of the opposition she faced and obstacles she had to overcome. The HONY website doesn’t index its stories, so to find hers, which should be toward the top because it was just released, scroll to find pictures of a woman wearing an orange dress with black stockings. The story sections are numbered 1/11 – 11/11.

@Welmaris, my west coast buddy, we miss you in the rewatch!!
And yes, I saw the HONY posts in FB yesterday and mentioned it in the Ep3 rewatch post (in the early part). It is Start Up in real life, with the Visionary and hard working DoDal Couple. So much inspiration on their journey to follow their dreams and I’m so happy to see influx of orders on their shoes and merchandise. I plan to also get a pair once they have stock.
Good rules. My kids haven’t ever been drunk (in front of me). And I hope it stays that way.
@Welmaris it’s very hard not to drink in those work related social engagements when you are entertaining important people who get offended when they want you to drink with them. My brother found it very hard whilst working in China where the person asking you to drink is affronted when you turn it down or tell them you’ve had enough. Thankfully he’s been “blessed” biologically. He turns bright red (and his eyes get really blood shot) with just a single sip of the stuff. So he looks like death just after one drink. It works for him because the host takes one look at his face and will back off pressuring him to drink anymore because he looks so bad 😂.
question, how do you measure when you have had enough drink?
Kalimera from my part of the world!
Thank you for the rules @Packmule3. I am not a drinker. But I will drink I will always drink water afterwards.
See you all in 3 hours!
Hi @Cleopatra! See you in 1.5 hours!!!
I’m here!
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
I am here too my Ladies!
Hi Everyone! I’m a bit sleepy, but raring to do the re-watch. ( •⌄• ू )✧
Where’s our president?
Hi All! I’m having “healthy” drinks tonight… YoungLiving Ningxia Red on the rocks + shot of collagen drink. 😂
Just finished watching True Beauty Ep 13-14! My goodness!!! I badly need Start Up to lift my spirits.
I’m here hahaa.. start in 6 min?
Okie dokie @Ella now 4 minutes and counting!!
You’ve all probably seen this already, but I was reading about the real Sand Box.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/pkdkk9/seoul-nodeul-island-sandbox-k-drama-start-up-location-travel-south-korea
Sounds lovely.
I am here too with a cider!
Hello @Ella and @Diane!
@Diane I’m drinking a healthy kefir homemade by a good friend. Yummy!
And we’re off!!!
And we are live!
From yesterday’s Ep 3, DM had said that meeting DS was like a dream that she’ll remember forever. DS thinks: “The NDS in her dream, I’ll make it a reality.” And that becomes his Mission Statement “I want to make a misunderstanding a reality.” – to become the NDS that DM believed in. So that in the end, it wouldn’t have been a lie, but she would have been believing in a DS who’d really be successful. In that way, (I guess) DS hoped that she’d never have to know the truth.
Poor DS he looks like he has to die by the sword or by pistol LOL.
@GB: I had to google Kefir. LOL!
Hi @Cleopatra!
Everyone so serious with their application form….
I’m drinking non-irish ice coffee lol..
Started with DoSan’s voice over, I can relate with this a lot, fixing bugs after bugs
So much pathos in the memories of Grandma … dad’s ideas and business mind rubbed off on Dal Mi.
Good point, GB!
From wish to dream
From dream to mission statement to reality
Although the plan wasn’t there, at least, they know what they wanted and where they wanted to go…as Director Yoon would point out.
With this history of her father’s failure, DM knows what a risk she has taken by quitting and starting a business from ground zero. I admire people like her!!!
@Diane, Kefir is pretty good!
@Ella Enjoy your coffee. I didn’t have any coffee today!
I really like how DoSan wants to make things be a reality. Yes that was his mission all along @GB!
California still dreaming… I’m here!
Happy weekend start up!
I like Dal Mi’s attitude in the face of uncertainties and challenge.
Did the director reuse the scene of grandma smiling and looking at Dalmi and her father. She is wearing the same old rose sweater? Very similar to the one in Ep16.
C’mon down, Cali girl.
I still remember when we used to spend summer vacations in La Jolla, San Diego. I was so sure I’d marry a lifeguard or a surfer.
#sillydreams
Hey @Janie! Welcome !
This Oppa / In Jae’s brother is so awful!
That’s why she is continuing her Father’s steps @GB! She is his legacy!
Hi @Janey, you’re awake and with us!!
I kind of pity In Jae… yes she made a choice as a child, but in the end it wasn’t the rich dad that she wanted but a chance to succeed on her own… and just to get her mother’s encouragement.
Mother failed to do more than worry because she thought she’d given In Jae a rich dad.
And yet mother gave encouragement to DM.
@Diane, I think it was Halmeoni’s memory.
To see what she was seeing in the first place with her son and now Dal-Mi’s.
And In Jae is jealous of Dal-Mi. I was so pissed off when I saw that scene. They left her for 15 years. She was totally alone, if she didn’t have her Halmeoni.
Stephanie Lee is on our screens!
@Cleopatra, wow, sounds so nice to be called a legacy!
LOL the meeting with Stephanie Lee… and of course they had to end up working together. I do so like that DM never bothered about being put down by her. I liked all her expressions here.
@Janey is amazing as always
Saha is sure a fast learner, she learned to con SST from DalMi lol..
I really feel bad for Injae. She is sad and really longing for that recognition/acknowledgement. Must be a burden to be overshadowed and judged bec of your “wealthy father”.
Bookstore scene! Saha and Dalmi.. Who would have thought they will be buddies in the end? Dosan is so cute here with his messed up hair.
Poor CS was already smitten and especially at being called ‘darling’ LOL.
LOL the quick makeover behind the shelves.
The boy and girl both dropped their earrings LOLOL
@GB,
Dal-Mi is a Visionary and her Dad was a Visionary.
She is his legacy!
It was all foreshadowing! The director brought together or should we say Fate, Dal-Mi, Sa-Ha and the Samsan Tech guys?
Hah the lies keep coming back to bite them! I like how CS sits there arms crossed, legs crossed and face looking cross like a cross ‘Buddha’ LOL.
The bus scene and holding hands. I’ve seen this so many times but still gives that same heart fluttering feeling. ❤️
Dal-Mi wears a blouse that says LOVER!
Lover was also the bouquet Kim Shin was holding for Eun Tak!
I love that cute, dorky look on DS’s face at the hand contact. DM is so pleased that he’s with her.
Come on DS, she wants you to hold her hand. How much more obvious can she be!!!
SOOOOooooo cute!!!
A…First look ad Do-San’s HANDS!
SST boys + DM and Saha brought together for the first time by a Sand Box book. And the 2 ladies were shrewd while the boys were cute puppies 🐶
Their smiles! So so CUTE!
VCs are like vultures!
No clue what a business plan or revenue model is heheheh.
Dosan’s voiceover:
Even when you think your code is complete, one missing conditional can create a bug and crash your program. There was one conditional in particular, “If Sand Box is everyone’s dream.” I overlooked this one conditional and this is the result of it. A bug occurred and I crashed.
I remember when I first watched this, this voiceover of Dosan gave me a sinking feeling. I thought it was an “overview” of the episode and that their romance was already doomed.
Instead, he was merely stating that he overlooked the fact that Dalmi and Injae would both be pursuing their dreams through the safe environment Sand Box. He was forced to choose between them, and he still ended up choosing Dalmi.
Like a mathematical guy, he was just stating the problem. He wasn’t saying, however, that no solution could be found.
@Janey couldn’t agree more, the ladies take the lead lol..
I love DoSan’s I’m happy and I can’t hide it expression.
Ahhh! So that’s why Chulsan’s phone had no battery power. He’d been playing a game on his phone! lol.
I like how the guys told him to stop it and he just ignored them.
@pkml3 I liked that he considered himself a program that could crash.
This part… why did JP pop in so suddenly?
We were never shown Chulsan’s sandbox purpose, right? I wonder what it is. Writer making us guess if CD or YS can be revenge guy…
JP saved them, but the way he did it was so awful!
I mean Aigoo…
Yup CS didn’t stop playing his game and lost his chance at being CEO.
Now here’s JP putting them down harshly again. Talking down at them in their own office.
Was he there to tell them that Grandma would not tell DM the truth yet?
But Ella,
if the program had lots of bugs, isn’t it more efficient to just start all over again from scratch, instead of “patching up” a sinking boat?
I think that would exasperate me, knowing that the previous coders had so many errors that I’m wasting my time just going over them.
That’s why I like what Dosan did in the next episode when he just restarted their whole project, following Dalmi’s advice.
That ruthless streak of lying to get the upper hand … DM used it and Saha used it and now CS also lies that DS is dealing with DM because JP asked him to and he should be grateful to them. They don’t need to cooperate with him. They lie that Do San wants nothing to do with girls. “And now he’s going to all this trouble just to save Samsan Tech.” Heh… smart move.
Then just after he berates them for almost getting cheated by the Venture Capitalists, JP falls for CS’s trick. LOL.
CS and YS are playing around with JP…
HAHAHAHA!
The technology only without the developer won’t be that useful unless they understand the tech in details, I’ve seen this in RL, so it doesn’t really merit the put down by jp. Also why SST cannot use the twins tech as well
Alex understood that the real gold mine is DoSan not the tech.
I think JP was really interested in SST and their technology. And this is outside of his debt and Dalmi. It’s just the attitude and him being too arrogant.
Chulsan/Yongsan — I find it funny that they turned things around and got the upperhand. This is one of those rare moments that JP got “soft” and it’s bec he needs Dosan’s help.
LOLOL Grandma’s imagination date + blanket = ?????
Love their expressions here!!!
I really like that DS chased DM on the bus! Another sailing off the without a map moment and his reward… holding hands! NJH nailed the dorky guy, single since birth. DM initiating the skinship but deadpanned. This scene is so heart fluttering and the OST was perfect. ❤️
DS asks JP “Why are you going through all this trouble?”
“Like I said, I’m trying to pay my debt.”
“How in debt are you that it can’t be paid with your wealth?” JP has yet to figure out what priceless means.
“I wish it could be paid with money.”
The quick fix.
Ooo OOO I absolutely love this Salad Fork Dessert Fork scene. Can’t stop laughing when they get to the Knitting Club.
When they said they’d met each other in a club, they meant the Knitting Club … so cute, these guys.
So JP is teaching Do-San good etiquette…
The guys learned it all, but not Do-San…LMAO!
I like how CS breaks the 4th wall and tells us directly what DS did to chase all the girls away.
Look at that happy smile on DS’s face when he comes in with his yarn.
What a goofy laugh LOL.
@pm3 I remember you mentioned last time about Dosan switching the wine glass… and he did! OMG! Our naughty boy! Hahaha!
@packmule3
It depends, in my case we actually bought a solution not creating one from scratch so we have no option except to keep doing patch after patch. Because of the investment already spent, plus creating a brand new solution from scratch required hiring an army of developers and development time we can’t afford.
@Janey, yes that was another sailing off without a map or plan. Good point!
Love the big deal he makes about blood type not being related to personality LOLOL.
Chulsan’s voice over — for the girls and Dosan.. too funny!
Subin is really a good actor. I loved him in CLOY.
Dessert Fork(u)!!!! LOLOL
Hahahah! trying to lean back and look cool on the car but he’s too tall and it’s a convertible…. Those long legs stick out far.
The split screen of DS and JP on the phone as they reacted to DM was gold.
I agree with you @Diane and @GB, it was so meta, Chulsan makes me laugh from his expressions only!
Is this their 3rd time in JP’s apartment? LOL CS deliberately putting his photos on the shelf.
Joo-hyuk said if he has a choice to play another character he wants Chul-san’s role lol..
I love how he did all this voice over in different voices. Su-bin is amazing.
@pm3 @Ella Agree! As an IT program manager, it’s a headache if you inherit a poorly designed architecture/poorly written code (spaghetti as we call it sometimes).. long term wise putting a patch have drawbacks but starting from scratch is really a big investment. And with how fast the technology is changing by the time you finish something a new and better platform or framework is invented and you end up making another investment or changing the system again. Haha
This scene of JP trying to come up with a wish to make … full of pathos… he had nothing to wish for except for a family. It was family rather than Go Stop that was his dream.
DalMi says about playing Go Stop: “What’s ordinary to one person is extraordinary to another. He probably has fond memories of it.”
This is so far the only point at which JP can relate with DM.
He responded instead of DS and alerted DS that JP might have another reason for taking all the trouble with deceiving DM.
DS gave him and DM a considering look.
JP finally has a party playing games at home – poor kid (man-child?) POIGNANT.
@GB yes. And Chulsan is super annoyed already so putting his photos are so funny.
When I look back, and after watching them playing I kind of feel bad for JP. His character is not really so bad (or evil). I think it was the fans that ruined the viewing experience and made me dislike his character eventually.
I have seen the BTS, noone knew how to play the game! LMAO
So nice to see them laughing freely and without stress. Love the OST here at their game.
Love this scene!
JP is petty and is a sore loser.
You’re a blood type A aren’t you. LOLOL after that story of the fiasco with the girl over blood types, everyone freezes in horror at what DS might do.
Look at all their eye expressions when she talks of blood type A. DS almost goes cross-eyed!!!
Everyone is having an episode/attack of anxiety that DS will break forth and scold her for linking blood type to personality. LOLOL
“It shows from the way you play Go Stop. You’re definitely blood type A.
“Do San you’re putting aside your beliefs for a girl?”
CS tells DM : “He doesn’t believe in blood type personalities.”
No, I do.
YS : “Galileo Galilei must have felt this way when he denied heliocentrism.”
CS : “Exactly. Still, the Earth revolves around the Sun.”
DS : :No, I really believe it. .I’m sweating.” He’s lying through his teeth LOLOL.
Oh I see.
Yes, the “poorly written codes” would drive me nuts. I know there’s a push here in the US that everybody should learn how to code. I approve of the idea.
But to me, it’s just writing. Not everybody can write well. How long have we been instructing the kids on correct grammar? Yet we still have kids who can’t write a decent college essay.
I see the same thing happening with coding. Not everybody can and will code well. There should be a standardized test for coding like an SAT. lol.
Chulsan and his foot revolving.. Hilarious! I love this guy!
@Cleopatra No Really!!! No one knew how to play Go Stop? What a joke!
Oh he is so desirous of her liking him for himself. Even if it’s just for his hand, it was a good start. I feel for him.
@GB you are fast!
I mean this scene is so hilarious! *LMAO*
That insecurity we get to see here will eat Do-San alive for the next 3 years…
DalMi openly helping DoSan is so cute. And DoSan’s forcing himself to agree with DalMi is also so funny.
NDS in the car – gets message of acceptance – he also passed the screening for the hackathon.
I like that he looks at his hands and the watch, only the hand is his… not the suit or car or watch. He makes a decision … could be linked to thinking about what he’d like to change DM’s misunderstanding of, like her wrote on the Start Up card.
@GB you have to watch the video. The Director was telling them what to do next…
@pm3 yes, our company actually supports & is promoting that coding should start early. and there are orgs and sites like code.org for this.
Oh dear @Cleopatra. That game of Go Stop must have taken a hundred takes LOL. All of them couldn’t play!!! I thought it was a common family game.
Love the JP-grandma date calls.
JP of course takes the credit for DM’s confidence. Now he makes a promise to ensure she won’t get hurt but that’s not a realistic promise. Even parents should not stop their children from all kinds of hurtful experiences
Do-San believed at that time that he had to fight against Do-San from the letters and JP as the live manifestation of his past self.
So, it was not easy for him to accept that he is not liked for what he was.
His hands. Well, those hands alone made him overpass all their joint memories, JP confessed in Episode 16…
DS has decided to stick to his own style and just get tips but not charity from JP. That’s good. He has to draw the line or respect the line, as he says. JP starts to respect him a bit more. He gives one of the most important tips ever … get a CEO.
It’s also harsh but accurate. I salute DS for accepting that ‘humiliation’ and following the tip.
So sad that Dalmi didn’t end up going to college. We know that she is not only hard working but smart as well. Having all those books in her room is proof of her thirst to learn.
I like how Dosan is drawing the line here. You can see the determination and frustration — as JP’s words slowly sink in.
Grandma is wrong, God is never too busy.
DM’s go getting attitude extends to her prayer. She’s very clear about what she’s praying for.
@GB I don’t know how many times they made the scene, we only see two or three plans.
DM’s confidence derives from her dad + the fact that Do-San came to her rescue.
Finally, one true advice. Hire a CEO!
I read an article that knitting is like coding. I can’t paste the NYT link here but they have a club that’s does “bitch n stitch” sessions in Virginia Tech! LOL!!!
That father of DS… another parent who does not know how to give encouragement. So negative before he even gives him a chance. Love his mum though. Love how she slams the door on her husband on purpose … TWICE!! LOL
I think after that conversation with DalMi, basically the high is gone, DoSan’s reality hits him, and it shaped what he choose to do going forward.
If we see here, jp was elated after that go stop playing. When DoSan came in to return jp’s stuff he was subdued but jp was still smiling from the after effect, only after DoSan became serious he changed his stance as well.
I like how Dosan’s mom tries to understand what her son is doing. She is really supportive. And good thing she is not the traditional Asian wife portrayed in most shows that just stands and watch while her husband is doing something wrong. This series in general promotes girl power!
Do-San’s mom is brilliant. As all Moms out there!
@Janey, I hear that when the hands are busy the mind can work better for some people.
Just nice that In Jae’s company loses her developers…. but if the guys had joined her, she could only take 2 of them because the competition only allowed groups of 5 for the hackathon.
@Janey I love how StartUp and True Beauty are promoting “knitting”. I don’t know if this is a new trend but I don’t remember other kdramas where guys knit.
@Ella that’s interesting about how the Go Stop game and the conversation made a difference in both JP and DS.
@Diane, yes to the girl power in the show. Even Dir Yoon is a woman. They are the movers and initiators very often. The guys appear pretty diffident by comparison.
Janey,
the phrase “stitch and bitch” was used since World War 2 for knitting clubs. 🙂 (I might be misinformed on this factoid, though, since I wasn’t alive then.)
Over here we just bitch over dramas. Knitting is optional. So is w(h)ining with cheese. lol.
I love Director Yoon’s analogy on cars and how each type is applicable to the situation of Dalmi, Dosan-SST, and Injae.
The guys did not think about how In Jae might have split them up if they had joined her.
I like that it’s a true start up level playing field for all. So exciting!!!
LOL CS has no battery but he keeps disturbing DS.
@GB Agree! And this is why this show is soo refreshing. Breaking away from tropes and what we normally see in other k dramas.
Yes to girl power as it is portrayed through our Female Actresses!
True, GB!
InJae could only take 2 of the SST guys, not all three of them.
Didn’t Director Yoon say the team is made up of 5 members?
Yes @packmule3, Director Yoon said that a team is made up of 5 members!
Nice aerial shot of all the phones lit up and heads bent.
BoD stitch words though! 😉
Dosan refusing charity (clothes) here. Closure of this in ep16.
Church scene prayer also has closure in ep 16.
Actually, CS might have been an OK CEO if not for his draining the battery on his phone. He had forward vision and was clearer on some matters than DS.
@Janey what an amazing thought!
BoD does stitch words!
Poor Dosan… his confidence is sinking more and more… apart from not being qualified as CEO, seeing Dalmi up there… Roller coaster feelings.
@Janey, I need to re-watch Ep 16!!!
Everyone in shock to see the sisters on stage together. It was actually the beginning of their reconciliation which took over 3 years.
I love Dosan’s mom! She resembles NJH, too. All the scenes with her are impactful even if she is a side character, also the dad. Mom 30-50-70% principle is gold!
The answer to Dal-Mi’s prayer is Do-San…
Hah! now all the lies are out. But I love DM’s reaction and attitude … she can still see it as an answer to her prayer. She could have taken revenge by not choosing them… but she choose to overlook it.
Love her attitude … she was thankful instead of arrogant… saw herself as joining their team and not them getting a great favour by joining her.
Such a different vibe from In Jae. She’s doing them a favour especially since everyone has less credentials than her.
@Janey the 30-50-70% rule is classic! Dosan’s mom is also one of my fave characters.
Injae is being a bitch here. Finding ways to compete with Dalmi. TBH I was scared when I first watched this. I thought he would choose Injae.
DS says: “My choice is the same either way.
You don’t want to be someone’s underlings. Dal Mi asked us to recruit her but Im Jae says she wants to recruit us see the difference?”
DS holds out his big hand to Dal Mi. They join hands literally and figuratively and forever.
Love that DM is not a hypocrite. She too wanted to show off in front of someone, and does not condemn DS for wanting to do the same.
yes, Dosan’s mom is priceless.
I like she’s always on his side, cheering for him.
And I also like how she gives her husband a piece of her mind when they’re alone, out of Dosan’s hearing. Slamming the door (twice) was on point.
I don’t like it when husbands and wives berate each other in front of the kids, like in “True Beauty.” JK’s mom is such a battleaxe, it’s not even funny.
@GB,
I agree with you their joined hands together is really important… 😀
EPILOGUE Back to the Go Stop game.
Yeong Sil:”Here’s your fortune for today.”
Today the God of fate will send a gentle breeze into your peaceful life…..” So this breeze includes so many people… DM, SST, Alex, Stephanie … In Jae … all except JP were gentle LOL.
Injae: He even put on such a show. He must have wanted to show off in front of you. Aren’t you angry?
Dalmi: I’m not. I’ve felt the urge to show off in front of someone many times.
— I remember the scene in the future episode where Dosan was also telling Injae where he understands her and how hard it is to pretend. (I have to search for that scene again. LOL)
And here is how we learned what IJ wrote in her Sandbox Entry.
She lied stealing Dal-Mi’s story…
Also, here comes Alex from 2ΣΤΟ!
And it comes to a close!!!
I was more invested in the success of the start up than in the romance actually … probably became 50-50 towards the end of the series. Was taken with all the business stuff that went on.
That handshake started their journey..and that last scene in Ep16.. the power walk while holding hands is them reaching their destination and dream.
Wooohooo #TeamBigHands
@Diane – that’s ep11 when DM was about to present on Demo day.
@DIane,
That scene does exist. I remember it too. I think it was when Dal-Mi learned that IJ stole her memory in order to enter Sandbox!
It was after Dal-Mi finally learned the truth about the letters, but I cannot recall the Episode, maybe #11?
@Cleopatra yes I remember that In Jae had to come clean with Dir Yoon in the end, about stealing her sister’s memory of dad with the sand.
@Diane In this show, everyone has a chance to lie and takes it. Heh! Ruthlessness and getting on in a dog-eat-dog world. In the end they have to forgive each other…
Someone asked on Twitter what do you think will happen had the promotions been focused on the SST guys instead of Dalmi-Dosan-Injae-JP. Anyway, Sandbox is all about “youth coding romance”. Maybe the SLS and the Dosan hate won’t happen.
Agree, the love triangle was too much because it’s not really a love triangle if not for misunderstanding. I’m not guessing who ends up with who so I wish we have more scenes on the sst guys.
Now that we live watching Start Up, I realize how many themes were used in the series.
For Example: Hands as in Do-San’s Hands, Dal-Mi & Do-San’s joined hands, DM & DS holding Hands
@GB Since IN is coming to a full circle she had to come clean about it to Dir. Yoon!
@Diane,
I’d have liked the emphasis of the show to be on DM’s rise and regaining of her family, and not mainly on the romance. However we know that to draw attention, and because of the kind of viewership for people like NJH and Suzy, romance had to be used for it’s pulling power.
@Diane,
As we have discussed in another thread, the Production Team choose deliberately this marketing approach and It’s a shame really because the story is so strong that everyone would love it anyway…
Actually, I kind of feel that production companies deliberately encourage shipping wars as it generates loads of publicity, curiosity and interest.
true the excitement of picking team lol, and this culture of second lead syndrome.
To be honest with you now that I am watching JP is not that bad.
I mean in the beginning I didn’t even want to see him, because of his abusing behaviour.
Now that times has passed from my first viewing, his character became more humane to me. Anyway, I cannot overlook his shitty character, but in this Episode he said honestly to Do-San that SamSan Tech needs to hire a CEO.
If only he had more moments with this behavior, it would be easier for the audience to understand him more.
Since I am not a shipper and I don’t suffer from a Second Lead Syndrome, I am talking about it unbiased.
Good night @GB and @Diane, If I am correct, and good morning Ladies!
@pkml3 About the guys being scouted … It was fortunate that when the team was taken over by Alex, he accepted all 3 guys. Actually he wanted only DS.
@Cleopatra yes, you’re right. It’s night time here and I’m feeling sleepier now. Good Day/Good Night!
Thanks Bitches for another fun watch!!
Thanks again everyone. Fun as always! Til the next re-watch party (hoping there will be another one).
President Ella, let’s do a Twitter or FB live watch party. That would be fun!
Kalinixta @GB sleep well!
It was a fun watch! I am waiting for our next fun watch!
Kisses to the Bitches!
this ep is one turning point, where DoSan decided to go his own way and it will unraveled more in the later episodes.
jp thought he could control the narative with DoSan, he said so to Halmeoni that DoSan is easy, so when DoSan no longer defer to him is when jp start to go ballistic. Plus he’s jealousy in regards to DalMi will ultimately lead to the infamous scrunchie incident.
I don’t use FB lol.. but planning on organizing a twitter rewatch party soon since everyone seems to be clamouring for one.
Another great rewatch!!! Thanks BoD!
I hope we can continue rewatching. I’m always up for Start Up!
@Ella thanks for the reminder on the how JP thought DS was easy and tried to control everything and everyone. CS can’t stand him. JP kept saying or thinking that he had everything under control, but he found that investing in people is not the same as investing in companies.
@Janey, I guess Saturdays seem to work better for those of us who have to work. We can tentatively set our date for the next rewatch to be next Saturday, same time, right @Ella?
yes same time next week
Okidoks! This is gonna be our Saturday hangout. 🤗🥰
👍🏻 Will prep an open thread for Ep 5
