I do so like the Hands and the Somebody/Nobody motif. He’s so hung up on his hand… he’s thinking he’s nobody but DM thinks his hand is so cool because she’s nobody and he took her hand instead of her Unni’s.

On the twins, we never found out why SST boys don’t like them. If there was history or something. Even the scene when one of the twins saw Dosan and called his name. I initially thought it was a foreshadowing or revenge or something.
Yes. the director used that shot angle a couple of times. I like that idea.
It’s like giving us a “freeze frame” — or a “thought bubble” that comes in cartoons. Either way, that moment was supposed to give us an insight into his character’s thoughts and feelings and we’re looking at them through the window.

I like how they both had empty hands but then our first view of JP was… he came out of the office, looking at black tshirt in his hand, and then his watch.

The Twins were the mega stars for their computing skills they went to MIT.
So I think the guys were a bit jealous, BUT not Do-San.
The brother from the Twins knew that Do-San was better than them.
Hence the reason they won later on.
It’s a bit cliché, but I like this comedy carachters, the classy big cold girl. So the cliché is she don’t want really be part of the team, but in the end, she become more warmth and is fully part of the team. etc etc etc. Dramas clichés that always work, so why not use this trope again.

Cold big girl is a good opportunity for many good lines and nasty ones.
@Diane the SST boys said that the twins just went in to win competitions without seriously committing to the work that came after. They had no loyalty. Just wanted to get the winnings (money) and move on.
I think there’s a rivalry between sst and wonder twin, maybe they met in another hackaton. And how they want to compete with Dosan directly shows to me that they want to win one. I think they knew how good Dosan is.
@WEnchanteur I wanted Cold Big girl to put Chul San in his place and get him to be a bit more unbiased in how he treats people.

The machine learning story (Tarzan and Jane) is classic! The way Dosan and Dalmi looked at each other remembering their first date… you feel the love.
jp think highly of himself, worrying about his image and boasting about materialistic things but he shows off to the wrong person, his past connection with Dalmi is what Dosan was worried about.
The first mention of Tarzan and MAchine learning. This really hooked me and connected with me. And of course, Tarzan and Jane!!!
Dosan is getting used to metaphors!
This was when I realized that Dalmi would fit in well with the boys. Instead of scolding them for their embarrassing behavior, she saved some gummy bears for herself, too.
I’m glad Saha wasn’t there to witness this.

Jane may prefer rocks because the need is different in different circumstances and yes, tastes may vary. DS really listened well. If DM had said they should re-start they’d reject her idea, but fortunately they trust DS.

It’s better hidden during the first episode, the script make it live, so many things he say or do just prove how he is empty. It’s best to hide this a bit, so we can share the moment when he think about himself later.
It’s an important caracter, in a drama some people are here for making mistakes, being flawed, suffering. Because we can identify with the caracters, a less heroic one. Because we are humans being and we are flawed and suffer too. It’s important to get the SML or SFL like that. We want these caracters a better fate, because we want a better fate for ourselfs and we can recognize our own missed step in life. It’s reassuring. we are not the only one to suffer and lived so difficults times, etc etc.
So It’s normal a lot a people liked this caracter, maybe a bit too much. In the script, quicly we understand than the writer won’t chose the “dead thing”. Dead thing is the letter. Dead leaves. Because it prove nothing about a live love story. Plus, JP have a problem, difficultys to act! crazy difficultys about that. Again, it’s common for most of people to have difficultys about that, me too.

@Janey, yes, JP is so unprofessional through and through. Even as a mentor he didn’t do his job thoroughly.
The metaphor of the couple who will work well together to the end – DS and DM still working while others sleep.
I was half expecting Saha to left in the middle when they were stucked and had to work all night. But they all stayed and work together. And Dosan and Dalmi are the last ones standing.
Personally, JP the character wouldn’t have grated on my senses as much if his fangirls weren’t so aggressive in campaigning for him while this drama was going on. They drowned out all the other views they disagreed with on social media and harassed the Dosan group.

DM’s feedback helped set the structure of their app to be slimmer. Eventually this helped noongil be able to pass the test of Alex.
@WEnchanteur, I read you and understand what you’re saying and it’s true. We give a lot of rope to our flawed characters, more so if they are ‘cute’, ‘good looking’ etc. But too much rope and those characters like our JP here, end up hanging themselves.
I like the image of dead leaves – dead pages of a book or of the letters. Not alive or current at all.
DS is so cute about being embarrassed each time DM does physical stuff like hold on to him. He’s so thrilled and goofy about it. LOL.
Regret/Guilt-laden scenes
Mum is ashamed before grandma, and cut to the heart that DM suffered as much as she did with only grandma to help her.
When she broke her leg Grandma said it would have been better to have gone with mum, it would be sunshine every day. But DM had wisely taken her dad’s words to heart, that endless sunshine would turn the world into a desert. It’s true that we need even inclement weather, rain and snow, to grow sweet fruits like tangerines. I like that she’s practical and good natured and normally optimistic.
Next are the guilt-laden scenes of JP over what he failed to do for Grandma.
@Janey, the rock that DS should get her is a diamond, right? LOL.
JP and Grandma
In a rare instance of actually giving back to Grandma, JP kneels down to tie her shoelace for her. A call back to the time she bent down to put him in new shoes.
JP : “You should buy new shoes. What is this?”
Grandma : “Why, they look as good as new.”
JP : “Are you blind. You call this new?” We know the irony of this is that she is going blind, and likely does not notice if the shoes are badly scuffed or not.

I’ve been watching kdramas all these years and I visit Seoul on business but I have yet to buy a single kdrama item. Not even a keychain.
I do have a red knitted scarf like the one EunTak wore in “Goblin.”
Here, in this kdrama, if there’s any item that I wish they made available, it would have been a map with “sailing without a map” theme. lol. I could frame that because I’m into maps.

To the question of why she had not asked him for help, Grandma says : “Why would I keep your money?”
I believe that when she got him to help her with her bank account and gave him control over it, she was deliberately giving him the money and the opportunity to invest, while he was still a minor.
She never bothered to check her bank account after that. She had trusted him completely with her savings. That’s why she was stunned that her savings had multiplied 10-fold. She had given him the opportunity to accomplish something he was good at, to find fulfillment and a means to continue on his own after he left.
At the same time I feel that if Grandma had allowed JP to give back to her somewhat … if she’d allowed him to be a ‘real’ Good Boy rather than one that just bore the name of ‘Good Boy’, it would have been a better thing for JP. I feel that she did him a disservice by being too proud to let him give back and give more to her. It would have given him the satisfaction of being able to share. It might have assuaged his great need to offset his being beholden to her by bending over backwards to give back.
JP’s Regret
JP asks Grandma if she regrets or resents him for her having given him the money that could have paid for DM’s tuition. However the regrets are his and not hers. The thing is, at that time in his youth, he would have been most resentful of having to leave Grandma some money for Dal Mi. Now he’s upset that he did not do so or that he was not asked to give financial help. Despite being told not to see her if he was doing well, he could still have gone to find out how Grandma was over the years. He lacked in being loving and grateful, and the regret he feels is the shame of not being as generous as he could have been.
It’s weird there was a “battle” about this drama and caracters. I know nothing about that, I didnt have time to read internet. I binge watched the drama 3 day ago. 😉
About the “battle of girl in the toilet”. Yeah, another trope. We don’t know yet in this drama, but the writer didnt repeat in the end what she did in “I hear your voice”. So, the sister is not so much the bichy girl with a nervous breakdown, etc. She is straight on, and not so bad. Often she give harsh but good advice to her sister. Only during the first episode, I find her abusively cold, like she don’t love her own sister. Breakdown come when she meet her grandmother far later. But small breakdown, it’s really not the core of the story. Overall it’s a caracter that we think first it will be a trope, and isnt.
@WEnchanteur – good points there. the flawed suffering character that I empathize with is Dosan though, which is different from the usual male leads. I thought that would get others to sympathize with him more, instead that got a lot of flack from the JP fan girls for not being the traditional ML character. And of course pushing JP as the ML in their alternate story.
@packmule3, jp’s fangirl successfully manage to render him unlikeable in my book, away from them i can better appreciate what the writer trying to do with his character.
I actually prefer DM’s mom over her father and I don’t think the mother did anything to be ashamed of. Would a girl Dalmi’s age really be allowed to chose which parent she stayed with after a divorce?
I really dislike what JP does, stripping poor DC in public. He has no respect or regard for people he considers ‘beneath’ him. Only sucks up to people he wants to impress or who are equal to or above him.

The Chul San Complex
Both Chul San and Yong San, but I feel more the former than the latter, constantly forgets what it is like to be looked down upon or dismissed without getting opportunities to shine. Although he hates being talked down to by JP, he has the same attitude towards DM because she’s a girl, is not an IT person, and does not have College education. DS repeatedly points out CS’s hypocrisy but CS is more intent on the mercenary ideals of doing what is most rational to win as opposed to being a team, trusting in all members and letting DM play her role as CEO.
Damn, JP love to speak with others with the feeling he make them idiots. ^^

Poor Dal Mi is suffering from nerves but she can pull herself together on stage, which is a lot better than most people with stage fright.

Chul San has a complex that is true. Dal Mi might not have a college educcation but she was working as a temp and knows a lot.
Sometimes, what you know in the field vs what you have learned theoritically has huge difference and impact.
First mention of Plan B from JP and DS and YS are not comfortable with it. Only CS was appeased by it.

Yes to the Second Male Lead’s role in kdramas. Because he isn’t going to be part of the romantic couple, the writer is obligated to give him the redemption story.
That’s not to say that Dosan was perfect from the start. He too had a redemption/rehabilitation arc, too. Nobody really likes a “Perfect Hero.” We want somebody “relatable.”

As romantic as those letters were, and as much as she wanted to hold on to her romantic fantasies, she’s going to come out of that dream world and find Dosan.
Hah! CS and YS are going to have to eat their words and give DM more respect after this presentation. They are surprised and happy that she’s doing better than expected and better than others who presented so far.

I think differently, jp was sensitive with money, so Halmeoni wants to show him that she trusted him even with money when she open that back acc.
On the investment, if she wanted him to do it she would have given it to him directly that’s why imo the reason for her surprised. As much as she trusted jp, or think how smart he was, for her to give her life saving to a highschooler to gamble is a bit weird for me.
@pm3 LOL! Yes! Haha! Bec I do mentoring in our office and I wanted a remembrance from SU! I want the cactus knitted by Dosan. Found it online but it is soo expensive to ship here in PH. Someone gifted me with a big poster of Dosan and Dalmi + the nightmare doll from IONTBO.
During the presentation, DS keeps remembering JP’s put downs that he had nothing to entice investors, that he had no idea of a business model, or how to generate a consistent profit. And here is DM with a business model to entice the investors.
I was so proud of Dal-Mi after the presentation!
So yes @GB, CS and YS they will eat their words and respect her more!
After all the put downs they did behind DM’s back, CS and YS (and even Sa Ha) make the most noise when she does well, as if they supported her.
It’s only DS who comes to acknowledge her effort.
@Cleopatra, yes, I was quite happy at the turn of events that showed YS and CS that they should not be so quick to judge and condemn.
Dalmi is doing better at her presentation than Injae in my opinion, she presented with excitement and I was nervous and smile throughout it.
@Janey, yes the Plan B was unpalatable to DS. It was also an easy fix, it would have made the guys complacent and arrogant and it kept SST beholden to JP. Worse of all, if he changed his mind, and withdrew his verbal promise, they’d have no other back up for financing.

I think the write have 1 or 2 assistants. And she made them work a lot about making tech investigations during the conception phase of the writing (so before to write anything).
I love these kind of precise details making the drama true (even if it’s maybe not so). Even more when the writer fully use it for a plottwist, as it’s the case here. It’s what I learn 25 years ago at university (I had I script class during one year).
Yes, proud of DM on her 3 minutes pitch. She covered not only on the specific project they did but also the possibilities for the future. And DS was there to personally acknowledge her great effort. With his hands tapping on her shoulder. 👋

But DS helped him out by interrupting them and distracting DM with news of their success.
I think The twin brother wanted to be acknowledged as the winner in the hackathon and wanted to rub that in. But DS was looking for DM and that comes first.

@WEnchanteur, yes, at the end of every episode, there’s an epilogue which gives us more background or backstory and information. Watching this show really takes 1.5 hours each time practically.

@Ella, yes, I remember In Jae’s criticism of DM sleeping. She’s not a very nice person to her sister. The sisterly rivalry seems to be strong in her. Or she has to justify her choice by making DM’s decisions look like mistakes.

My friends who has jp traits in rl like has money, position mostly rooting for jp. They can’t understand why Dalmi would pick the underdog lol.. but some changed their mind after the three years time jump. Jp lack of progress with Dalmi offended them more.
And the problem with JP’s putdowns and he was GASLIGHTING Dosan.
lol. A few of JP fangirls on twitter started using that word “gaslighting” without understanding it.
Take for instance when JP told Dosan, “If I were Chulsan or Youngsan, I’d ask you to compensate me for the past two years of my life.”
He tried to get Dosan to question his perception of his friends’ loyalty. Dosan forgot that Chulsan decided to work for him AFTER he saved Chulsan from paying a million won by fixing the bug. And Yongsan gave us his job because he didn’t want to be an inconsequential cog.
That happened to me with CLOY also. I did not know there was an epilogue after the credits. I had to go back on all previous eps to rewatch the last parts. LOL!
@Janey, I wondered about that long look Twin Brother gave DS. As if he wanted to apologise for ‘stealing’ their business idea. They could have done something else but they chose something that would be directly compared to SST’s program.

@GB the twins were very competitive, maybe to a fault. They made it their mission to join hackathons and decimate other teams. I doubt he wanted to apologize to DS.
So I always wondered why they stayed with Injae and the CHeong Meong company for 3 years.
@pkml3 about the gaslighting of JP. Yes… no wonder I felt his words were more like twisting a dagger in DS. There’s are very mean streak in him. DS, however, was not swayed.
One thing the 3 guys had for each other was trust. They just had to extend it to DM.
I really enjoyed rewatching this episode.
Mostly because we got to see how everyone was connected with the other, their character traits, the regrets @GB as posted them above.
But the most interesting thing is to see how Do-San always listens Dal-Mi and he makes her requests reality.
I don’t care if people cannot see what JP does to SamSan Tech’s guys.
I agree with @Packmule3 that JP was gaslighting DS on purpose.
And when Alex said that he votes for SamSan Tech then, JP’s ego was hurt because someone else. who is better than him obviously, understood that they were a hidden diamond.
@Cleopatra, That’s an take on JP I failed to see. Yes, he prides himself on being able to spot winning businesses to invest in, but Alex is showing that he’s missed the very one he’s been mentoring. What a palm in the face!
Yes, to how DM’s ideas which even grandma was rather uncertain about, DS took as the challenge and the objective for his next set of programs. He made them real indeed!
JP and Injae were both gaslighters (if there’s a word)! JP to Dosan, Injae to Dalmi.
But once DM joined ranks with Injae, her unnie became a real mentor to her. On the other hand, JP and DS are supposed to be on the same team but JP did not really fulfill his mentoring to DS. His mentor style is criticisms and put downs (which is easier to do) instead of something constructive and actionable (harder because you have to think and you have to care to give these inputs). His only good advice was for DS to hire a CEO.
@Janey, good point about the twins. I too expected them to do a bunk the minute the year in Sand Box was over, but they stayed on. Could be that they were waiting for an opportunity. They approached Alex, I believe and then found that the Won Company (Nature Morning? or something like that?) under In Jae’s step brother were prepared to pay big bucks for them. Self-serving and no loyalty.

Alex knows programming too, so he is more objective on their algorithm than the others.
I believe when JP listened that Alex of the Great 2ΣΤΟ voted for them, he was shocked. That was a fake smile he used over there. JP was uncomfortable but he hid it behind his dimples.
Still, Do-San he was a Tarzan himself who learned to listen to Dal-Mi aka Jane. That’s why he is the better man for her.
He listens her visionary ideas and thens makes them a reality. That’s why they are vision oriented!
I didnt remember things about that, but maybe there is a correlation JP-Almoeoni.

a. missed the important point about underdogs. Underdogs try HARDER; they have nothing to lose.
b. forgot the moral lesson from the Hare and the Tortoise.

Hackathon- a sprint like event where participants team up. It’s also defined as an event where people collaborate on a project.
We see how the SST team is finally formed and how they start to collaborate and build their connections and relationships. SST people machine-learning with each other to make Tarzan!

Janey, I think non-tech people will get the wrong idea that a “hackathon” is meant to “hack” into a government server or something just as nefarious.
But hackathons is a collaborative AND competitive event where teams work on identifying a problem and working out a new technology (that’s why the programmers come in handy) to solve the problem. It works best for people like Dalmi and Dosan who are both very creative and can think outside-the-box. Dosan especially works very well under intense pressure without losing his calm. I would hire immediately him based on that alone.
I wouldn’t hire JP though. Sure, he could bring in the money, but his inability to be a team player would be a major drag.
Okay. I’m kinda slow today but I’ll open a thread for “Space Sweepers.” Just post when you want. 🙂

on hiring my boss told me his first question is always tell me about yourself during interview, it gave him a read on the interviewee. he said from those he could tell if he’s going to proceed or reject them.
