I feel like we’re doing a thread for “Hospital Playlist,” @nrllee and @miracle23.
@nrllee observed that the diploma on Taesul’s therapist, SeoJin, was dated 1980.
Here’s what I found.
1. It was photoshopped. lol. The director should have hired a better props master.
Here’s Seojin’s diploma.
Here’s where it was copied from. I blacked out the name to protect the privacy of the individual.
source: noetic.org
Either the props guy was lazy or he didn’t expect international audience to pore over inch of this drama.
I doubt the date will be relevant to the story.
But the interesting part of this diploma is the field of studies. Parapsychology is…how do I say this?…psychic. 🙂 Here’s what wiki said about it.
Parapsychology is the study of alleged psychic phenomena (extrasensory perception, as in telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, a.k.a. telekinesis, and psychometry) and other paranormal claims, for example related to near-death experiences, synchronicity, apparitional experiences, etc. It is considered to be pseudoscience by a vast majority of mainstream scientists, in part because, in addition to a lack of replicable empirical evidence, parapsychological claims simply cannot be true “unless the rest of science isn’t.”
Parapsychology research almost never appears in mainstream science journals. Parapsychology has been criticized for continuing investigation despite being unable to provide convincing evidence for the existence of any psychic phenomena after more than a century of research.
So I don’t know how Seojin, Taesul’s therapist, can help him if this indeed was her specialty. (Darn that props guy!) Taesul is supposed to go to a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication.
2. Ten years ago, Taesul’s hyung warned him that, “We’re not the only ones in this world. People who aren’t from this world are living among us. Even now. They’re hiding somewhere, watching us….They’re looking for you. They’ll keep coming.”
Taesul was discovering that his brother’s words weren’t just ravings of a drunk madman.
At the train station, he was looking at this photograph.
This photograph was taken when he was at the therapist.
I’ll enlarge and reverse the photograph for you.
3. In the opening credits of this show on Netflix (I don’t know if you’re watching on Netflix), there’s a brief image of a person sitting on a ornate chair and surveilling a video wall. This lends credence to the hyung’s story that these aliens (or futurists?) are watching them all the time.
She looks female to me.
4. Barring new characters, the hyung is the most likely the person to leave the warning on his wall and hide it behind the painting. It’s out of fear for his younger brother’s safety that he wrote the warning.
Anyway, to end on a funny note…
Didn’t this scene strike you as silly?
Like, who eats ramyeon in First Class?
She was going around offering wine to go with it, too.
Gah…that’s really annoying 😂. When the props guy can’t get the date right (In a Time Bending drama), we’ve got little hope as an audience to make sense of it. 🙄. If the PD is to be believed, this drama took 4 years to create. You would think that they would be more meticulous about it. Especially if they intentionally pan the camera over the diplomas 🙄. It’s not just on a wall in the background or something whilst stuff is happening in the foreground. Sigh.
🙋♀️ I am guilty as charged. I requested instant noodle few times during my flights😂😂😂😂 I find that simple dish tasted heavenly on air🤣🤣🤣🤣 (let’s just say I was terribly hungry at that point of time🤭🤭🤭)
I agree that the brother is the one who wrote the message, because he knew TS’s habit by heart that he will definitely notice the slight changes in that area. TS is that detail😅.
I wonder why SH was not in rush to meet her broker🤔🤔🤔🤔, even right after she arrived.
Whew! I’m glad that diploma was vetted out and no “slow aging” spin to the story (I hope). Google search for PHD in Parapsychology showed the question was first asked in 2006. Yup, prop person dropped the ball on this. 😂 Thanks @PM3 and @nrllee for the sharp eyes.
Spoiler:
Shrink and VP best friend are in a romantic relationship shown in Ep3. They seem to be in love.
I’m a bit taken aback by the alien Voldemort looking assassin. I didn’t like it…
I’m halfway thru Ep3 and will post more reactions in a bit.
@pkml3 Thanks for the photo reversal. I was wondering what that part of the photo was of. You’ve certainly got an eye for detail!!
@nrllee I think the real mistake is not just the date but the ‘parapsychology’ part… or it’s just a huge joke that the PD is pulling on us,… making us think that we’re in some realistic sci-fi show when we are actually trying to make sense of the mad ravings of our Tae Sul.
@Miracle23 – I kind of thought that she was doing the immigration with a secret mission, and didn’t want anyone to go through her bag and ID. Therefore she wouldn’t want to go to any broker.
In an interview, the director stated that he had hidden many “Easter Eggs” in the drama.
Clues hidden all over the place.
Ah ah ah! 😉
Now, everyone will spot the real mistakes there are, on top of that. 😉
Bad luck for him. 🙂
Usually this kind of mistake is of no consequence, and is rarely spotted, but in a drama about time travel?
When the director say “look carefuly” !
It’s like to say :
“Hey, spectators, transform yourselves into Packmule3 clones”. 🙂
You can imagine how it happens.
First of all, the script just says something very short for the psychiatrist’s office. Such as:
“Psychiatrist’s office, day.
Very large bright room, diplomas hanging on the wall, modern building”.
But it’s not even sure!
I’m using the official W script as an example (not a transcript, but the original script). Scene at a psychiatrist’s, we have this:
C # 16 – Psychiatric Counseling Room (daytime)
Sung-Moo, in a complaint to a doctor.
Sung-Moo – (voice over) At first I thought I was crazy,
Psy – But I’ll only prescribe a tranquilizer.
(Here, the scene was not even shot like this, and there is a dialogue between the character and the psychiatrist).
It would take someone who is a film professional to give us additional information.
I can very well imagine how things take place.
Several technicians are in charge of finding various elements of the set, and they have to do it quickly. Just because it’s pre-produced doesn’t mean it won’t be Pale Pale. 🙂
For essential clues (close-up on Seo Hae’s diary, for example), the script clearly indicates what is seen, and what is written in the diary. Because this is an important detail.
For the detail of the diploma: probably something not useful, not being indicated in the script.
The technician who installs this in the set doesn’t know that later the director will make a quick shot of it. It’s just something hanging on the wall, and it would be really lucky if we could see this wall enough to see something other than “university of California” from afar.
The diploma is written in English. There’s “Psychology” in “Parapsychology”, for someone who speaks bad English, it’s okay. The director doesn’t pay attention when filming, or doesn’t speak English well enough to read or notice a date written in literal form. Maybe it was an assistant who filmed the shot, by the way! All this is sent to editing afterwards. Pale Pale Pale Pale. We have to find one of the many rushes filmed to introduce the beginning of the scene. It falls on the one of the diplomas.
@GB, I can’t post anymore on the ep3-4 topic.
The blog autoblock me now, because I tried to post a link on a picture.
It was about the fireshoot after cartridge removal.
So it’s maybe possible (I wanted to post a view of the gun and how it work).
Do you see it now?
It went to my “Spam” box because you sent multiple posts. Sorry. 🙂
@Pm3,
Sorry too, I tried hard!
I supposed it was the first link the problem, so I tried with another link, without success. Then I ended to think: oh maybe the blog block the user after retry, even without a link.
@WEnchanteur, Thanks! I’ll look out for your post. Since @pkml3 is already on to your missing post, it should be up on the Episode 3 and 4 thread.
@packmule3, Ilove this thread. All of the points you make are spot on. There’s nothing like sloppiness to get in the way of a story. And yes, our hero could have gone to a shaman. Was psrapsychology intentional? Who knows. And Ramyeon in first class-I guess you can get anything you want on that airline. But who is accounting for taste. I only watched episode 1 (I’m on K Drama overload-my family will tell me to get a life-am trying to make up for lost time-too many dramas, too little time with new ones coming along all the time.). Will probably stick with this because of the lead actors (I want our ML to sing-he’s a dreamy singer-watched him do a duet with Jeon MiDo in Dr, Zhivago on YouTube-please do a cameo on Hospital Playlist). Nevertheless, I’m kind of hooked on this drama, sloppiness and all, and maybe because I think it has that makjang feel to it and I just love yelling at my tv.
