I saw this meme yesterday, and I protested right away. What about Korean??!!!! So raaaayyyy-cist!
And for those who can’t see it, it says:
Speak English
Kiss French
Drive German
Dress Italian
Spend Arab
Party Caribbean
It’s my Friday challenge for y’all. Go ahead and suggest what we should do in Korean. Here are mine:
1. Watch Korean
2. Travel Korean
3. Dance Korean
Hahaha. I’m not doing kpop dance…at my age!
4. Slap Korean
Who knew that kdramas have different ways of slapping?
Credit: dramatroll
There’s a regular palm slap. Hey, this actress looks familiar. Isn’t she Iksun from HP??
Also a water slap. The first time I saw this was in Hyun Bin’s “Secret Garden.”
This is the (in)famous kimchee slap. Note how the actor closed his eyes before the kimchee hit his face.
Then, the Italian pasta slap. If that ceramic dish had hit her or the creamy sauce had been steaming hot….! I smell a personal injury lawsuit.
Then, there’s the samgyupsal slap.

At least, it wasn’t a pork CHOP. lol.
5. Adopt Korean!!
Have fun this weekend!
@packmule3, that regular slap actress is Hwang Jung Eum😁
For me,
1. Cook Korean
2. Talk Korean
3. Eat Korean
4. Travel Korean (hopefully soon!!!)
5. Watch Korean
6. Listen to Korean
7. Shop Korean!!!
Hmmm what else?🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁 ok my brain stops here🤭
BBQ Korean!
I’ve just got educated on the many ways to do Korean slap! I have not seen most of them as I probably avoid those I personally wouldn’t use kimchi or samgyupsal – too delish to waste on a crappy person. LOL!
My Additions…
Music Korean
Soundtrack Korean
Beauty ritual Korean
Facial care Korean
Street Food Korean
Happy Friyay!!
Study Korean, @miracle23?? 🙂 Except I know it can be stressing to be a student in Korea. So…nope.
Did you see the “new” Myeongdong? Many shops have closed down.
https://youtu.be/MtQgqVMjvrw
Yes, absolutely, @Snow Flower. I totally forgot about that. We grilled beef, pork and salmon on the tabletop grill two nights ago for “Chuseok.”
My husband now says that he prefers sampyusal to bacon because of the nitrates in cured bacon. Gasp! He’s seen the light!
Funny – hee-hee.
Here are some racially characteristic behaviours that I have observed live, and one I’ve picked up from films:
Sneer English
Shrug French
Speak loudly German
Flaunt Italian
Put-down Arab
Sing Caribbean
Stare Korean (from films)
@,packmule3, Here’s a couple-
Eat Korean-ramyeon anyone, tteabokki, the real KFC, in bimbibap, bulgogi, kimbap
Drink Korean, AM-banana milk, midmorning to aftermoon-coffee and evening on, Soju
Kiss Korean-for us bitches who are cis women, how about Hyun Bins, So Ji Sub, Namgoong Min, Cha Swing Won, Ji Sung..fill on the blanks…
😈 @Juriel!!!!!
I thought it was:
Speak loud and obnoxious: American
Speak posh: English
Speak verbose: French
Speak mad: German
Speak romance: Italian
Speak (wait? Can you speak freely without fear of getting flogged? 😜) Arab
Speak creole: Caribbean
Speak baby/aegyo: Korean
🤪
For @nrllee and @agdr03
Speak Crocodile 🐊 Dundee: Australian
🥸 Hey, @Old American Lady,
I was afraid to mention kisses but since you did…
Kiss 💋 Korean without the dead fish 👀 eyes
@Packmule3, omg, Myeongdong! 😭😭😭😭 I usually went there for my one day shopping hours before flying home. If businesses are closed, will they re-open in the future? 🤧🤧🤧
On study korean, yes I have been on self study since 2006? 😂 I am so lazy… went to language center once, studied with tutors. Passed my Level 1&2 Topik Test this year 😁 but still very beginner level 🤭🤭🤭
Hmm, I am considering higher education study in Korea…. still considering … 😂 my dream is to camp all around SK. They have amazing camping sites.
@Janey, a big yay for Music Korean and Soundtrack Korean!
@packmule3,you now have me in stitches. We are getting better, less chaste kisses. Flower of Evil comes to mind. But I think we can agree that with his last performance YYS has fallen down on the job. Yuck!
@snowflower – I’ve saved your SoundCloud link and have been listening to your piano compositions influenced by kdramas from time to time. Pls continue to share any new ones.
@miracle – great idea on camping Korea! I hope they have glamping, too since as tourists, we won’t t have camping gear.
I’m speechless, helpless with laughter too. Who started this thread?
@Janey, yes they do!! 😁😁😁 many many… check out this new glamping site. I am amazed still that it is fully equiped. 😁

I love this post @packmule3!😊 I second @ Old American Lady on kisses and will take it a step further 😝
Romance Korean (HB, LMH, KSH et al)😍😍
Watch Korean
Travel Korean
Use Korean (cosmetics)
Eat Korean
@Juriel, IfvI’m not mistaken, our brill I ant leader @packmule3, who is responsible for spreading mirth throughout the world.
Lol so true @Old American Lady!
For years, Queen @packmule3’s hilarious posts have made me laugh out loud even in the middle of a truly bad day🤣
I’m all in on the suggestions above, especially in relation to food. With apologies for the grammar, but following the format, here’s my contribution to the list:
Winter coat Korean
Public transport Korean
Quote literature Korean
Honor deceased Korean
Cosplay Korean
Order delivery Korean
I love seeing all the fashionable coats worn in Korean dramas, but living in a temperate climate rarely have opportunity to wear them.
I appreciate seeing in Kdramas that public transport includes city buses and light rail in metropolitan areas, intercity trains, long distance buses, and community buses that serve rural areas.
I love how literature from Korea and around the world is so naturally worked into Kdramas.
I don’t go to the extent I see in Kdramas, but on the anniversaries of my father’s and mother’s deaths, I now set aside time to think of them and be grateful for their love.
Next time I’m in South Korea, I’m going to set aside my fears of cultural appropriation and rent a costume. What should I be? Should I stick with my gender, or cross dress? Nobility or servant? Civilian or warrior?Decisions! Decisions!
In my area we have Amazon Prime with one-day delivery of some items, and restaurant delivery can be arranged in many instances, but South Korea by far surpasses us in terms of delivery options and speed.
Gosh @Welmaris, I would love for you to get a Hanbock. These are so beautiful no matter whether they are traditional or modern. I loved the ones in Mystic Pop Up Bar. And no matter how fat or slim people are, the dress style flatters. I hope you find whatever style makes you happy. I also think the hair pins that are worn as part of the entirety of the outfit very lovely and practical.
The historical dramas have a great variety of costumes depending upon class status. The fabric goes from homespun to the finest silk.
Please enjoy your choice/choices.
Hi, happy Saturday!
For me,
South Korea values (e.g obedience respect to family, family protection) , culture / ethical code of conduct, traditions
pork bbq, Korean fried chicken, ginseng chicken soup
Jeju, Busan and other scenic locations
Catholic mass during my korea visits
Kdramas, kpop
1. Watch Korean.
2. Dance Korean.
3. Learn Korean.
4. Travel Korean.
5. Date Korean. Haha
Wow, what a fabulous glamping site! Thanks for the link @Miracle! The underground bathroom was a surprise.
@Welmaris, I too want to wear full sageuk finery including headdress when I visit SK. @AOL, the hanbok does suit all body types, you are so right!
@Janey to I’d live to wear a hanbock but worry about c.ultural appropriation. Same thing goes for saris and kimonos. I also love cheongsam but you have to have a I’m figure for them. I don’t know what the Vietnamese flowing dress is called but that’s beautiful too.
The clothing looks so comfortable to wear and basically says that you can look wonderful and pretty and be modest too. I hope we reach a point where nobody feels that they are causing insult by wearing international pretty clothing.
🙂 Don’t worry about that cultural appropriation BS, @Old American Lady. I wish woke people would stop skewing people’s good intention to fit their agendas, attributing nefarious intentions to people outside their group/color/race/zone, and putting a negative spin on cultural APPRECIATION.
Your putting on a hanbok signifies that you want a deeper understanding of their culture and traditions. Nothing more, nothing less.
Cultures are dynamic. Cultures evolve. Cultures borrow, influence, create, give, and take. There’s no culture that exists without intermixing with other cultures. Cultures are mongrels, not purebreads. It’s idiotic to think we should police, dictate, and claim something which is far greater than the sum of our parts.
“Cultures Rw mongrels, not purebreds.” Such a true statement! Bravo, @packmule3, for putting it that way👏👏 I wish the so called nationalists/culture preservers would stop their propaganda of restricting culture to those born into it, and realize that every culture is always an amalgamation. It spreads when more people from other cultures adopt it, instead of getting diluted.
@Old American Lady, I would totally want to wear a Hancock too. As you and @Janey have said, it is very flattering to any kind of figure and very feminine.
@CheekyChu and @sni75’s list reminded me I left out my favorite BTS and Blackpink❤ So I am going to add:
Listen Korean (Kpop)
Dance Korean!
*are mongrels..
**Note to self** Double check when typing from phone🙈🙈
@packmule3,Thank you for your insights into our current cultural debates. I am all for cultural appreciation and will someday purchase a hanbock. I do love them so.
I guess we would all go hungry without momhrel food
Pizza and sushi come to mind, who would have think pineapple pizza or kosher sushi in or halal salami. And now in New York they’re touting as new kind of restaurant, Japanese Italian. So take that to the purists.
I think the world has reached a crazy point of absurdity. I know that I don’t want to offend anyone. I like people and I know we all have problems and sorrows to overcome, without being assaulted by offenses.
But now sometimes I feel I can offend just by breathing. And there is so much manufactured and false outrage, much if it just to make a buck.
.
Is there any chance we’re going to have a thread on One the Woman? I’m finding it hilarious! 😄
@TY, I am loving One The Woman. Lee Hannee is a wonderful comic actress. She is fearless. I am frankly amazed that this woman, who was the ultimate Korean beauty queen has gone in the opposite direction from most FL pretty princess roles. I’d love to also hear her classical Korean music skills. She reminds me of the classical American comic movie actresses of the thirties like Claudette Colbert and Jean Arthur(l ook them up in IMDB)-beahtiful but hilarious.
And may I ask, what did Lee Sang Yoon do to his face? It’s very disconcerting. Is it fillers, skin peel, it’s something. His face looks smoother but somehow wrong. I like this actor a lot but I don’t think he needed work(it kind of ruins him).He doesn’t have to look like a teen ager. If his agency made him do it, he should sue them for malpractice. Same for the plastic shrgeon/dermatologist. Sorry for the pun,, but I thought the they were cutting edge in Korea with the m e dual tourism. Sorry everyone, just needed to get this off my chest.
