I like that scene when she shared how she imagines being beside him when they go back to their high school many years after… they even bent their heads at the same time.
I usually like stories where the guy falls for the girl first. I’m same with JJ that she does not like it that she likes him more than here. But his adoring stares here show that he is now smitten, too.

CalTech is California’s “answer” to MIT (or Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
CalTech is smaller in student population.
In the novel, it’s was not really BDS or Google it yourself but more of a GPS. That JJ is YT’s GPS who encourages her to go the right direction and pursue his dreams. She is like a homing device! He was lost and now JJ is showing him the way.
BDS – Beidou Navigation Satellite System.
I had to look it up too. I think JJ cried foul because she didn’t know those high IQ engineers so he said she can search? ahahhah

Back in high school I initially said I wanted to be a programmer but I couldn’t handle it hahahha But seriously I admire everyone that’s involved in technology.
Here’s that whole conversation about the “first tier.”

By blinded, he meant biased.
I’m glad that he’s realized that he isn’t “top dog.” I noticed that in Ep 2. After college, his classmates/schoolmates/peers went on with their lives and had productive lives. Just because they weren’t #1 in school like he was, didn’t mean that they were worthless in the workforce. And then, in Ep 2, they were all giving him advice.
That company guy who invited him to his office for tea, and offered him a job.
His teammate in “Honor of Kings” who tried to warn him that regular finance and venture capitalism are different.
His roomie ZL who tried to teach him about the pragmatics of life.
Even JingJing thought he knew nothing about the entertainment world.
He became an expert in one field and that field alone. But everybody, too, had become an expert in their own fields, too. People specialized in their chosen career. And that’s good. Real world made their playing field “more” equal. He wasn’t the stand-out anymore, like he was back in school.
Back then, he was a big fish in a small pond. Now, he was a small fish in BIG pond but JingJing was the BIG fish in the BIG pond.
YT: (continuing) Back in high school, I used to think that I was very smart, too. Only when I went out, I realized that it’s a vast world out there and how insignificant I am. I wasn’t much of a genius as I thought I was. My IQ was also far from being in the first tier.
JJ: The first tier, you mean…
YT: Qian Xuesen, Sergei Korolev, Theodore von Karman.
JJ: Oh? It’s okay. You can continue.

That’s possible. She has more EQ than him. She could guide him on how to deal with the adoring fans.
And she was always telling him what he had to do to reach his destination, like a GPS. If he veered off course (e.g., when he planned to retire), she’d warned him that it’s NOT the right turn to take.

The introduction to the parents is different in the novel. I actually like the drama version better. Showed a lot of their personality and mischievousness – JJ on her high EQ. But YT following her game plan and learning quickly.

He got her back with her story telling to her parents.
In the novel, it was just a casual mention of introduction to parents, more of like in passing and assumed. JJ sent Yu Tu’s mom an advanced copy of her drama episode. I like that devoted time to do that In The drama.

I find it jarring when subbers use the phrase “send over.” Example: Yu Tu was going to “send over” JingJing to Shanghai. Huh? It sounded like she was some package to be delivered.

there are lots of smiles from YT from this episode onwards. And this is basically the start of the epilogues in the novel. We have a long happy ever after. I feel spoiled with this show because of that.

She was good at making the lie sound convincing because she gave it a back-story, and her back-story was elaborate. Her parents won’t suspect anything because of the many twists and turns. It wasn’t just let’s do “A then B.”
but “A, then B, but C will happen, therefore D.”
And he realized that he’d been had. If she could think of a story that quickly, then the purifier story had also be conjured up “on the spot.”
She wove stories like a spider spins webs. She snared him and he didn’t even realize it.
lol. It’s a good thing JingJing was the female lead. If she had been the SECOND female lead, she would have been lethal. The female lead would have no chance against her devious mind.

I understood this as a denial. No, he wasn’t reluctant to spend the rest of his life with her. And no, he didn’t mind at all having to deal with her fibbing and white lies and story-telling.

I smiled this scene: she woke up and she grumbled that he woke her up. He was surprised because when they were practicing for the Honor of Kings tournament, he’d be around at her house at 9am.

@Pm3 – I like your word “fabulist “! JJ can spin tales and can easily do scenarios and scripts on the fly. I think their conversation is more on keeping each other on their toes. If he’s gonna work hard, then she will make the effort to make it worthwhile. Their reciprocity dynamics is really good.

Oh no. I will never interrogate about a girlfriend. I used enquire in the smallest meaning, like is there a girlfriend? If I get given more information that’ll be great but I won’t interrogate, that’s for sure.
He’s Mom did ask him before he left where was he going and the fact that she set him up with a girl which he turned down. I just hope my sons will be able to open up to me like YT did to his Mom.

I liked it when Yu Tu said, “but SOMEONE decided to keep this (dating) from our parents.” His mom wondered why he was going to Shanghai on the first day of the Lunar New Year and who he met last night but he had to invent lies because “SOMEONE” didn’t want the truth told.
She got him whipped.
She protested YuTu’s explanation to his mom. He’d told his mom that there was a pretty girl, but he didn’t get the girl. JingJing said that he’d given her a bad image. “Like someone who neither approves nor rejects.”
What did the subber mean? What does that mean?
That JingJing was being coy? Wishy-washy? Stringing him along? Blowing hot and cold?
His explanation made her sound like she considered him a good enough person to drive her to Shanghai but NOT good enough to date.
She got him whipped by his Mom even after the next day. LOL!
Yang Yang pulled off that stunned reaction when JJ was saying her ‘story’ again and it was funny. hahahaha
Truth be told, JJ is adored by the elders. 🙂
@PM3 – I agree YT is in love for the first time! I bet he was not like this with the ex gf. Come to think of it, he wakes up even earlier to make it to the 9AM game lessons they had since he had to commute 1.5 hrs one way to JJ’s place. Even before he became the BF, he is already dedicated.
YuTu’s really inept at lying. He tried another tactic. He told JJ that he’d tell his mom, “I didn’t get the girl whom I met last night, and on the first day of New Year, Ms Qiao is my new love interest.”
JingJing protested again, claiming that this would only make her look bad.
Why?
Because she was easy to get? Because she was only his second choice after he failed to get the “first” girl? Because she was dating somebody’s reject? lol.
I think YT meant that the girl couldn’t commit to him yet, that’s why the bad image of JJ to his Mom like she’s not sure.
Yes, when YT said he travels 3 hours during those game learning, I was like shocked. That’s a lot to travel.
This was sooo cheesy, though. When YT sighed on the phone, and JJ asked him why he was sighing.

What the?? Is he for real? Shovel snow? He wants to shovel snow? Is this some sort of silly equivalent of serenading her under her open window?
I’ve never heard of “I’ll shovel snow for you to prove my love for you.” But since this is Yang Yang, okay. Pass!
I think his Mom explained it better when she called YT while they were in the car, she said he was the only one who was imagining things between the first girl and the second girl. hahahaha It totally backfired on him and Mom said that they really like JJ. JJ had the biggest smile on her face.
No, I think he just said he wanted to clear the snow at her house but what he really means is that he wants to see her already. That’s why he sighed when she said she’s still going to sleep. 🙂

Shanghai is a very big city so even the train travels can be quite long. JK’s place is near the financial district while YT’s near the airport so more on the outskirts of Shanghai.
I like how she took the initiative and drove to his house to surprise him.
But hey…that wooden broom had me snickering. Did he “shovel” snow or “sweep” snow? I still can’t get over the fact that he offered to shovel snow for her. Her house had plenty of sidewalk to clear, too. And there was no snow-blower.
But she got me when she pretended to be lost and to ask for directions.
And his smile!! Oof. Yang Yang really lit up there. That smile looked real to me.

I agree, I liked JJ’s surprised visit to YT and really she made him very happy, hence that smile.
I guess Yang Yang will just have to make sure that his future wife will be very secure, otherwise it will be very very hard.

And this drama shouldn’t influence you to think that stalking will result into a romantic ending for the stalker and the stalkee.

In my opinion, Yu Tu was realizing how hard it must have been for her to be in a one-sided love/unrequited love. He ignored her. He didn’t think she was up to his standards, or could keep up with him. #fact
So what could he possibly say to undo all that? Thank her for following him around?
The hug was the best response. He was sorry for how he had acted back then but he couldn’t undo the past.

That refueling kiss was unexpected.
I thought he actually forgot to gas up, and they were now adrift in the middle of the river.
And this was right after JingJing jokingly said that she was putting her life in his hands but she didn’t trust him. hahaha.
So I was fully expecting YT to mess up and forget to check the boat’s gas tank.
Nah, YT as you and @Janey said is inlove and so he was eager to spend as much time as possible with her. I thought it was cute that he said he needs to re-fuel and went for his kiss and said after, ‘I’m full now’. 🙂
Oh the way he introduced himself to JJ’s parents, LOL! It was just perfect, as perfect as YT’s Mom’s acceptance of JJ. ahahahah
Yes. No paparazzi shot for the kiss.
But I also like the kiss on her head.
He put on her lifevest, and she said, “I don’t really trust you.”
He answered, “You have no choice but to trust me. You’re already on my boat now.”
And he kissed the top of her hat. Awww.
She still didn’t look reassured (smart girl! I’d be like her) but that kiss was sweet.
On a sidenote: My hubby and I joked about how easy it was to make a foul play at sea look like an accident. Plus, you don’t bring any form of ID while wearing a bikini.
I like the difference between how she spilled the beans vs how he told her parents.
I knew he was going for a payback. He wasn’t a pushover. In episode 2, whenever ZL tried to outwit him, he had ready response. So here… I was expecting him to retaliate.
But I like how he just turned around and let her deal with the fallout on her own. hahaha. She was gobsmacked.
I agree, a forehead kiss is always sweet. 🙂 But why does she not trust him all of a sudden?
Sidenote: it’s so true especially out of anyone’s view, it doesn’t look hard at all.

Hello, everyone. Janey, I had problems with dramacool and YouTube saying I didn’t have permissions, but it got sorted out later. Dramacool’s principle server is down. I liked the comments. Sorry I missed the episode.
I liked that she said the HE would be invited to the school. If she had said WE, it would have been about her, too, as she will have her celebrity past – it exists in the present. It could even intimate that he would be coming as her guest or partner but not because of his achievements. But because she said that YT would be invited, it shows her faith in him, in his abilities and that she would be proudly by his side.
I keep thinking about how Dilraba acts with her whole body. I loved the scene when they left the school. Jing Jing is walking along the sidewalk edge like a little kid and her face is lit up. Yu Tu can only watch her face like he can’t believe this is really happening and he tightens his grip on her hand.
I also liked the scene when JJ is at home in her pjs. She sprawls on her bed and her giant teddy bear falls on her, like reality intruding on a dream. She slams it back. The director kept that in the scene and added a funny sound effect. Jing Jing’s arms and legs are always moving, like her thoughts.
I thought YT’s term ‘reporting’ was something he learned or used habitually from his job. It sounds quasi-military
I am so late to this but after watching this 3 times i can remember the scenes…and Episode 22 is my fav!!

The tag line for the webpage translates to “You will know it if you Baidu it” which was why high school student YT told JJ she can just google/baidu her question, no need to ask him. BUT now he is her BDS aka Google because she can always ask him and he will be there to answer her. Pretty swoony and a big change from the high school YT.
Hahaha…on the “send over” it is the literal translation from the Chinese “送去”. first word means “send” second word means “there” in the context.
And I absolutely adore the refueling scene, JJ’s surprise visit to YT the next morning, how JJ manage to effortlessly make having to spill the beans into something that worked to her advantage, and YT’s smiles and totally falling so head over heels with her.
Actually not many actresses can pass off as being cute and Dilraba does it perfectly well here. JJ knows how to be cute and beneath all that she has this deep grasp of the situation to manage whatever situation really quickly. She said it herself, trained her EQ through all those variety shows and interviews.
OK if you all do a rewatch again, i will make sure i can join!!
Hello! I couldn’t join you for the rewatch bc I was at work but I read all your comments. What I like abt this show is that it has only the necessary portion of angst without any additional drama. I like the show as a whole but I’m really glad that we got all those happy epilogues from ep 22. Not only lets say 10 minutes of the last episode when we never get to know more abt their happily ever after.
I liked Yu Tu’s mom reaction to them being a couple. She was gigling like a child. And Yu Tu’s witty revenge.
I liked also Yu Tu’s impatience to see her or just talk to her in the morning. He choose to call which was also nice but otherwise I find it very romantic when a guy sends a message in the morning just saying Good Morning (I mean when they’re not living together yet)
I also liked the scene that @Fern described (and I liked your description as well). When they left the school and JJ is happy and Yu Tu is watching her like he can’t belive this is really happening. It was exactly this feeling I saw in his face.
