2D1N: Open Thread

Nrllee, this thread is for us. 🙂

I saw the preview of Na In Woo’s premiere on 2D1N on viki. It’s at the tail end of this week’s show.

Here’s the un-subbed version on Youtube.

I think he’ll be entertaining to watch on the show. He looks like a biddable, sweet-natured guy. When he walked on the field and heard a member shouting “Wait!” he immediately came to a standstill. That made the other members laughed. They were probably assessing how to best use his personality to work in their favor. They could easily boss him around, for one.

Then, they ordered him to hurry up so he started running. The only problem was he went the wrong way, the roundabout way. The members commented:

“He’s almost like Crazy Ravi.”

–Yes, he’s also dressed colorfully like Ravi.

“The director is great at picking people who aren’t normal.”

–That’s the entertainment value: when the cast members aren’t normal or pretending to be normal. When the cast wants to protect his image (like Kim SeonHo did), he’s a bore.

“There’s always one fool!”

–Yes. And fools rush in where angels fear to tread….

“This isn’t going to be easy.”

–Meaning, he’ll be a burden to the team because he’s another idiot in addition to the existing idiots. lol.

“He looks like a mix between Ravi and [Kim Jong Min].”

–I liked Season 3 because of the wit of Kim JunHo. He was quick to think on his feet, and did the most unexpected things. He and Kim Jong Min added the high jinks to the show seamlessly. Though I doubt that synergy can ever be replaced or duplicated, I’m hoping this show will find its rhythm again.

Me? I like him already since he wasn’t wearing glossy red lipstick to his interview. (Oooooh. The shade!)

I’m not sure whether 2D1N will be shown this weekend because of the winter Olympics. It runs from Friday, Feb 4 to Sunday, Feb 20. Let’s see if the show will go on hiatus that long.

Looking forward to great year ahead for the 2D1N production with Na In Woo joining the cast.

  1. He really does come across as sweet and keen. As long as he doesn’t mind the banter and remains good natured, as he always seems to be, he’ll do ok.

  2. I scanned the news report. All of them have favorable words for this new guy.

Probably because he acquitted himself well on “River Where The Moon Rises.” It mustn’t have been easy stepping in for the lead male character midway through the drama’s run. He wasn’t an understudy; he was brought in cold.

But his portrayal of the role turned out much better than the original actor. Jisoo’s swagging mannerism (e.g., the way he would stick out his jaw or leer at the girl) struck me as all wrong for a character who was supposedly a simpleton and country bumpkin.

He was great choice for that role.

  3. Thanks for the heads up @pm3. ❤️ I liked him in RWTMR. And have kept a look out for his future dramas. Watched some footage from his interviews on YouTube. He has an easy charm about him. Confident but polite. Enthusiastic when asked to try new things. Looking forward to tuning into 2D1N again. I haven’t watched any of S4 so I need to get to know the other cast members. I only know JongMin from S3.

  4. Next week. I like his confidence 😂. Wonder how his induction will go. Should be a barrel of laughs.

  5. This guy is too tall. The camera cannot capture the top of his face.

  6. He’s not “too” tall, @WEnchanteur. It’s Dindin who’s just too short that he ruins the horizontal line. 🙂

  7. thanks for sharing the link, @nrllee.

    So he thinks that

    a. he’ll win the game of chance. — but that’s the operative word, right? “Chance.” Does he think he’s born lucky?

    b. he’ll be the smart one in the team. We shall see. For starters, he needs to brush up on geography and Chinese characters.

    c. he’ll have trouble sleeping? But doesn’t shooting end past 12 midnight? I’m sure he’ll be dead-tired on his first day as regular. lol. He snores as loudly as that other young guy, Ravi.

The Director Band seems to be excited about her pick.

😂. It’s all about perspective isn’t it? I am looking forward to watching NIW in 2D1N.

  9. @Fern, I just made a nonsense joke, and PM3 answered me with a similar joke.
But you’re right, it’s mostly a matter of perspective… from the camera 😉

I watched other dramas, Flower of Evil and Mouse.

Flower of Evil: the comments are closed, but I don’t have much to say, except that the drama was great. Directed by the director of Hwang Jin-Yi, a drama that was 10 years ahead in terms of direction.

Mouse: not discussed on this blog, I liked it just as much, but I noticed one particular point: the structure of the story is genius. An ultra structured plot from start to finish. The whole script was written before, of course. Years of preparation. Details of many scenes from the first part revealed in flashback in the last part, a script where everything is hyper-linked. Awesome.

  10. @Wenchanteur I can’t agree with you on Mouse. Too many plot holes. A brain transplant? Just to confuse the issue? How is a serial killer allowed access to sharps in prison (so that he can practise his surgical skills)? How is that even a plausible scenario? 🙄. A baby swap as well? Come on. This writer did it in God’s Gift 14 Days as well. She writes stories which deliberately confuse giving the audience no real chance to guess at what the real story is. And she kept putting on special ep after special ep? Not just at the end to explain stuff but in the middle as well? Huh? Why would she need to have special eps? It just means she didn’t do a good job of story telling within the drama and needed all these extra eps to “explain”.

More news. I am genuinely excited to watch it again. I stopped watching after S3 ended abruptly. Never watched any of S4 with KSH. Now I am back and excited again.

  12. @Wenchanteur, 😭 as a rather vertically challenged person myself, you can’t tell me off for that one!

  13. @packmule3 Just watched the ep with NIW in it. He’s hilarious. I love how he’s a good sport. Haven’t heard him complain yet. He’s just full of positive energy. His poor camera man though 😂😂😂. Tailing him all that time. He will probably have to tap out and take turns with someone else or he’ll be wrecked trying to keep up with IW. He’s (NIW) really fit. I can’t believe he was running in those wellingtons the whole time. His feet would be so sore. Especially after he forded the river? It looked like some of that icy water sloshed into the boots? I wonder if he was doing all that running to stay warm. And he didn’t let on that he was horribly uncomfortable and bitterly cold? His personality is one that doesn’t complain much and always looks on the bright side of things. I am still getting to know all the other members. I know JongMin from S3 but the others are all new to me. I will keep watching for IW. Next week’s ep should be better. It will be a bit awkward initially as the boys get accustomed to him. And I familiarized myself with the others.
