LOL @pkml3… I looked at the date and was about to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!!! Then I looked at my calendar date again and was wondering if I was in a time warp LOLOL.
You mean May 14th my dear??? Or did you want to catch us napping?
Thanks for the early thread @pkml3. This way we can rewatch early and start posting comments.
BTW, I find that there really is something wrong with our Friday 13th BOD site. It’s taking more than a minute for each post to be updated. I hope this gets solved before our rewatch party!!!
Yeah! BOD subscription and speed are back to normal now. Let’s hope it stays this way for the foreseeable future!
I hope it’s working now, @GB. I found this post of yours in my “pending” inbox.
Yup @pkml3, it’s working! Been okay for several hours already. But did you notice that your date up on the header is Feb 14?
🤪I’ll change it. Wait a sec.
Done!
Episode 9, Selected Moments.
SPOILER!!!
*** Sadness depth box. ***
A process used to amplify sadness, after a sad event. Pushing the knife into the wound. The screenwriter lashes out at Yeon-Joo, to overwhelm her. The scenes of temporary return in W for example.
– 1st return, in the hospital room.
– 2nd return, just the time to see a door close interminably in slow motion. Back in the parking lot, the director takes two shots of Yeon-Joo motionless, producing a stupefaction effect.
– 3rd return, the lost ring. Always small details to make it more cruel, such as the dialogue between Kang Chul and Do-Yoon “it’s a girlfriend you forgot”. Ending with a crying scene that I find credible, thanks to the arrival of Yeon-Joo’s colleagues, and a terrible voice-over “the last reminiscences of the dream, then he forgot me forever”.
– Comedy scene with professor Park, again torture for Yeon-Joo.
– The collage of images on the window, another unintentionally cruel line from the mother “at least find a real boyfriend”.
– The hypothetical ending of W, plus Kang Chul will stay with So-Hee.
*** Code Black Alert. ***
There is the same kind of energy as at the end of episode 6, when W is supposed to be over, but Yeon-Joo returns. Direction, editing and background music provides the thrill. When Yeon-Joo wonders why. The background music piano goosebump. I like this wave of excitement.
*** Soo-Bong asks Sung-Moo if he would like pig’s feet for dinner. ***
Oh Sung-Moo has no face and now has to speak with writing in the air, too.
A plot twist that surprised me. Other viewers probably guessed it before. We can verify once again that Soo-Bong is wearing fake glasses (does he really think he looks sexier like that?).
*** Chronological complexity. ***
Since episode 8, the order of the scenes makes me dream.
Already there is the fictional manhwa envisaged by Sung-Moo, but only a part of it actually takes place. The rest will be cancelled by the new events.
Sung-Moo’s explanation (narrated by Soo-Bong) is mixed with a montage showing the scenes. Soo-Bong indicates what they plan to draw next (it is planned in 4 chapters). Only the first chapter was done: Kang Chul sees the CCTV with Sung-Moo, this dissolves on “to be continued” in the script. Only the first of the later fictional scenes will take place.
I list here the chronological order of events, then how the story was arranged. The comparison should show why. Primarily to create urgency, excitement, hook, and the unknown. “What’s going on? What happened? What happens next?”.
Chronological order.
#01 – Kang Chul sees the CCTV showing the killer, with Sung-Moo’s face.
#02 – Soo-Bong tells the fictional manhwa to Yeon-Joo while buying food.
#03 – (fiction) The TV presenter describes the wanted notice.
#04 – Yeon-Joo cries while reading volume 34 at the hospital.
#05 – The killer steals Oh Sung-Moo’s face (episode 10)
#06 – Soo-Bong sees faceless Sung-Moo and faints.
#07 – The killer orders Sung-Moo to draw a weapon (episode 10)
#08 – The TV presenter describes the wanted notice.
#09 – The killer massacres the staff of W’s TV studio.
#10 – The killer presents his face to Kang Chul.
#11 – Code Black alarm sounds, Yeon-Joo is summoned to W.
#12 – The paramedics bring the injured to the hospital.
#13 – Yeon-Joo watches the TV report of the killing.
#14 – Yeon-Joo meets Kang Chul in the emergency room.

Wow @WE. Did you get all that from the Script? I have to double check on the ‘(fiction) the TV presenter’ and the real ‘TV presenter’. I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
Tomorrow it seems I’ll be on the go the whole day until evening. I hope to have the energy for our party, but if not, I’ll just drop in to start it off with you and probably slink off to sleep or something. 😬 🤭 😂 Let’s see how it goes.
@GB, I hope you’ll be here, even a bit sleepy. 😉
The screenplay contains only the scenes in the order we watch them on screen.
For the chronological order, I reconstructed it. I used the screenplay rather than the drama, because it’s easier and quicker to find the scenes while reading.
The chronological order is probably on SJJ’s drafts. A chronological structure (more or less detailed). Next, the way SJJ writes this may be:
– She first writes the scenes in draft form. Then she arranges the order of the scenes differently afterwards, and rewrites parts of it (adding voice-overs, etc).
– She has enough indication on her structure, and she writes the scenes directly in the final order, because she has a very good sense of narration (instinct+experience).
– She studies her chronological structure, then creates an outline (scene order structure), then writes. Probably that.
In episode 9 of W, there is also an unusual spreading of scenes. When Sung-Moo meets Soo-Bong and explains his plan. The sequel is complex, in another genre.
– There is the continuation of the contents of the USB key that is exposed (while it could have been done in the scene where Sung-Moo finds the key).
– The scenes are interspersed in such a way that the revelation of the killer’s face falls at the same time for: the killer in the bathroom, Soo-Bong seeing the drawing, and soon after Yeon-Joo (when Professor Park reveals it to her).
There is a pretty incredible overlap of scenes (coupled with various voice-overs). I can feel strongly the mastery of SJJ on that. As I can point out the fact I couldn’t do something so sophisticated. As well we don’t see that in other dramas.
If I only listed the events that take place in real time in episode 9, there wouldn’t be 50%. Even the scene where Yeon-Joo sticks pictures on the window is in a flashback!
@WE, your guess as to how SJJ does it, sounds entirely plausible. Yes, her method of overlaying her story with so much from different flashbacks which are synchronised to bring us to a high point or concerted revelation is truly remarkable.
I feel I need to slow or stop the cascade of scenes to note where each is taken from.
BTW, will you be watching the Hong Sisters’ drama coming up in June?
HI Everyone!!
I’m sorry Ive been missing the live rewatch. I’ve been having issues with Viki on my TV so it’s been hard to catch up. Plus i’m back to work now so it’s hard to wake up in the morning =)
I’ll be joining by reading mostly. Hopefully I can join you all tomorrow.
Take care!!
I also hope to join tomorrow. It depends how I’m feeling. I got my second COVID booster yesterday and I’ve had chills, aching arm, headache, and fatigue.
Last week I missed our get-together because I had a morning Zoom meeting I needed to attend.
Will read old DramaBeans recaps for the past episodes but regrettably for me the flow of the Drama is broken 🙁 . How do you do and how are you @GB? 😀
Hi @Carolina, @Welmaris and @FGB, you were all missed!! It’s alright though, just come when you can. Having a rewatch party is not meant to create stress. We hope to see you soon (less than 1 hours’ time!!) if you can make it.
@FGB, you know me. I’m doing pretty good, thanks for asking. How about yourself? If your Internet is up, you will be able, I hope, to see my email.
@pkml3, I just noticed that this thread is still under ‘Uncategorized’. Please move it under ‘W’ for our future reference. Thanks!
Done, @GB!
I’m going to be “unreachable” for the next 24 hours, okay? My girlfriends and I are doing a spa retreat. Herbal detox, Shea butter body wrap, scalp massage, foot massage, therapy massage, face mask (and I don’t mean the Covid mask), the works.
We’re celebrating one of my GFs getting married again. 😂😂
Kalispera Everyone !
I do hope you are all okay! 😊
Thanks @pkml3! Enjoy yourself. I’m sure you’ll feel beautiful and look it too. 😁
When you have a moment, please take a look at the remaining 19 or so shows that somehow have remained Uncategorized. I feel many of them don’t belong there!!! 😉
Hi everybody here, and for others, take care of your health.
@FGB: don’t read recap, binge watch all, and come back later. 😉
Hello @WE 🙂
Hi Everyone. Ready to join, refilled the coffee cup!
@GB, Hong sisters drama, yes, they have a good hook since beginning.
Else, I wait for yumi cell2 and this bomb : “Big mouth”.
Should we start?
4 solid rewatchers for now. ^^
Yeah, time to go (I watch the recap too)
This part, when everything becomes a kkum / dream, always makes me sad…
The drama use “redo the last previous scene at beggining of next episode”, but it’s too long scenes. Here it’s a scene with explanations, so still ok.
“I can’t even hug you”. ahah
“See me in a manhwa”, what she will do in a scene of the episode.
Hello All, I’m here! I was actually carried away watching the ending of this episode!!! LOL I forgot the time.
And here we get to see the unfaced killer fighting with jakkanim.
We also understand that the killer and jakkanim are in a sort of an understanding.
Something Kang Chul and Yeon Joo doesn’t know at all!
We are getting to the second part of the story…
Eomoni don’t fear the faceless killer lol.
So are you just at the stage where he lets himself fall off the roof?
I see SM in the airplane. I figure that Killer disappeared at the moment KC fell off the rooftop.
I’m a bit late, but I’m here. I hope the BoD site doesn’t act up again. Last night my comment went to moderation. That’s been happening a lot lately for unknown reasons.
The background music at the airport/taxi scene isn’t in the OST disk. And is damn good.
Hey @GB Unnie,
I am in the 09:07 mark.
Hey @Welmaris!
@Welmaris, glad you are enough well to be here.
At first we were not sure if the dead people were from the real world or not, but now it’s confirmed.
Poor SB, no one will listen to him.
@GB, yes, and there is also foreshadowing about the deal of Sung-Moo and faceless killer.
It’s interesting that they went back to the time of the stabbing, but KC retains something of the 2 now-missing months, since he has tears flowing from his eyes. He is still in between worlds.
@GB Unnie,
I have understood that it was from the real world…
I-ve noticed something: we don’t see the moment where Kang Chul give the USB key in the roof scene. 🙂
@WE I didn’t notice the music until you mentioned it. It was kind of whimsical, wanting to be hopeful?
@WE, the USB was given to YJ in Ep 8 I think. Not repeated in this episode.
A little sign of affection from Sung-Moo for Kang Chul “little bastard”, but said in a way it could be his son.
And now, the screenwriter will torture Yeon-Joo and makes all this more sad. 🙂
@WE,
SM have realized that they are having feelings for each other.
@WE @Cleo I only realised that most of the episode is about the torture of YJ lol. Only at the very end then things change.
Bed hospital scene, with the saddest BGM of the drama.
But… she don’t have time to touch him. ahaha.
(the try to touch isn’t is the script)
@GB Unnie,
This episode makes me sad, because as you say, in the most part we get to see Yeon Joo suffering.
Kang Chul is bringing her in W’s world because he is dreaming about her.
Like now…
@Cleo, yes, I takes it like that: as it’s unstable reminiscences of a dream, there isn’t “chapter ending”, only short incursions in W.
Now a endless closing door (a classic in dramas).
@Cleo, is that the reason why she pops in and out of ‘W’ world? I thought it was just the residual effect of being in the webtoon so many times and becoming half a manhwa character herself.
How to explain why she ends up there during the emergency after the shooting at the TV station?
I really like this song…
Please say Something, by Park Bo Ram.
The cruel conversation with Park “she will end with cats”. ahaha. SJJ have a sens of dark comedy.
@Cleo, yaaaaaeeeaaah, the best song of the drama, except… there is even a better one “without you”, but we hear this only from episode 14.
@GB,
Yes, in the beginning it was Kang Chul thinking about her in a dream like state.
Then, it was just W sucking her in, in order to save Kang Chul.
That is my explanation.
Poor Yeon Joo. Those small glimpses would be torture.
@WE,
By far this is my favorite one. I have to check which you one you are referring to…
@salteddust, torture especially over the ring that he gave her which he no longer remembers.
Kang Chul’s logic was good, that he wouldn’t actually die from falling off the roof, after seeing how Yeon Joo switched worlds before Real Culprit’s bullet hit her. Still, it must be hard to carry through with an act like that if your intent is to stay alive, not die.
I agree, @GB, that Real Culprit disappeared from the plane either when KC threw himself off the roof, or when YJ finished drawing the W panel about KC’s dream. I suppose the three real-world people who died couldn’t be resurrected because time can’t be manipulated in the real world like it can be in a webtoon.
@Cleo, GB: the reason why Yeon Joo come back into W at the end of the episode is: The killer invoke her (maybe he don’t know himself he did that, I’m not sure about that point. But later, he know Yeon Joo is into W. A scene in ep 11 confirm that).
Hilarious dialog with soo-bong: “drawing cartoons is a terrific job”.
At this stage, Oh Sung Moo still has a shred of decency, being concerned for his daughter.
KC challenges Writer Oh to end W happily for his daughter’s sake.
Suddenly we’re given YJ’s voiceover explaining what KC must have gone through when she was in his life. She’s probably explaining it to herself as well to accept better the person he is now, without her.
All this is cleverly interspersed with his derring-do on the road.
So funny that KC’s confidence is juxtaposed against SB’s inability to make up his mind whether to even go into the house or not.
Crazy fact: a terrific faceless killer with awesome super powers want to transform in a 60 year-old ordinary guy. 😀
@WE,
There is a chance he did, but I think that is more awesome to believe that W world itself called her in. She is the one who created Chul in the first place and things were getting out of hand!
Sung-Moo say there will be plot-holes, and Kang Chul notice instantly the plot-hole about the unique camera. lol!!! A story where the main character detect plot-holes. Crazy meta.
I have to say this rewatch my fondness for the actor Lee Si-eon is growing. With a few hesitant steps and an expression of uncertainly as he approaches the studio can make me laugh out loud. He is absolutely essential for the comic breaks.
@WE drawing cartoons is a dangerous job!
It took the risk to YJ’s life to get SM to take action.
It’s so much reverse meta that the drawn character tells the real person what to do to make a happy ending, and the real person has to obey the drawing.
I agree with you about how great it is that the reports of ‘W’ come into the real world so that SM can create a new character identity for Killer. Mind-blowing!!!
@Cleo, I like your explanation of how YJ gets pulled back into ‘W’.
@WE, yes, the meta-ness of the meta is phenomenal.
The face of the artist and later our Mad Dog thinks it’s the artist wanting to leave his imprint in his work LOL. He’s always so wrong.
@Cleo, we get another clue about that, when Han Chul Ho invoke Yeon-Joo. It happens because the manhwa concept and the logic of power/importance of characters. Kang Chul is unable to invoke Yeon Joo now, but as the vilain gain more importance, they are able. Killer first because he have memories. Later Han Chul Ho because Kang Chul is accused of murder and no longer a hero. The most logical explanation for me. But the fact the manhwa has a kind of “self-decision” is also very good. I use that in season 2. And anyway, to decide the balance of importance of characters is also the manhwa phenomenon job.
Mad Dog is so hilarious!
Thanks to him, YJ discovers that her father used his own face for Killer.
Thank you @GB Unnie,
Mad Dog is making a whole fuzz! LMAO!
LOL Mad Dog making the ‘W’ sign with 2 hands.
Now we get to hear what the ending is supposed to be… BUT it’s not going to happen LOL.
Now they have the perfect ending plot. Except all after the studio W wanted scene will never happens. ^^
However, some of the fictive events will be used later in the story.
@WE,
True. As you know I like W because of its philosophical values in self determination!
@GB, yeaaah, prof Park make W with fingers, but also with his arms!! (it’s from the drama, not the script).
@GB, I do also W with arms or fingers in real life too. Looooooooool.
@WE,
They have the perfect ending plot but things won’t go their way because the jakkanim made a…deal with someone! 🤷♀️
Oh dear, the reasons for Killer to kill KC’s family were so inadequate/insufficient! So KC gets a bit of chance to take revenge by beating up the Killer.
SM wants to take down 2 villains at once by making Han Cheol Ho a culprit who’d get caught. But unfortunately HCH later becomes alerted to another world.
So cute scene with Kang Chul and Seo-Hee.
Finally the “formule” ending of W is also nice.
And that is the beaty of W, you start with a story, to continue with another! LMAO!!!
@WE even the happy ending with KC and So Hee on the road crossing, is set on the roads that look like it makes a ‘W’ shape with the buildings next to them.
Soo-bong “answer more quickly”!! For an instant, he have fear than Yeon-Joo could be gone in W. So funny line. Not in the script.
correction: beauty*
@GB, I need to rewatch that, I missed this W reference after 20 rewatch. 🙂 🙂 🙂
@Clea, a story that should end many times, but never end. Never ending story (for the reference to this movie that is also a meta one, about the fact people read less and less).
@WE It just occurred to me.
BTW thanks for the links to the camerawork on Business Proposal. I’m still trying to read the many articles and watch the videos.
@WE,
True, but some continue to do so…We need to be happy about “them”.
And now… after a last sad scene… The BIG GOOSEBUMP!! ahhha haaaha it starts again! W madness!! back in W! What happens, what happens, ahaaa W! W! (W with both arms!!).
Quick shot on the hospital name on the wall.
@WE you speak of the Neverending Story? I liked that movie.
Poor YJ only has the pages of manhwa to look at. Fortunately the ‘W’ world just publishes itself LOL, or she’d not even have these pictures.
Mum’s words are so hurtful, poor YJ.
“Hidden context” BGM (alert feeling)
Just after: Piano goosebump BGM.
Ahaahaaaaaaaaaaa. I can die now.
…And Yeon Joo is again sucked in…W!
Grab wrist in slow motion. Thooooooo.
YJ’s tears as she lies down impossibly flow down her chin LOL. They should flow down the sides of her face to her ears. Post production created tears?
And she is summoned back into ‘W’ in an instant.
Yes, the music of ‘W’ that lets us know something is not right.
I was watching up to here just now and forgot the time LOL.
@GB, she can just straight up before? I don’t know. There are tears, it ok enough. (lol, I don’t want to understand that!!)
They were meant to be.
Yeon Joo and Kang Chul, hence this grab wrist scene in slow motion!
That’s why I said that W world sucked in YJ…
The epic scene with faceless sung moo. Soo-bong.. !!!!!!!!! He wanted to end with the W madness, it’s even worst now.
and….
@Cleo, such an interesting deduction. As long as they are meant to be, she’d always be sucked into ‘W’.
He finds it strange that she keeps looking at him in that sad way. He recognises her ring but she thought for a moment that he remembered them as a couple. Poor YJ.
The jakkanim is…
faceless…
The killer took it from him!
Ahhhh we come now to the scary scene… poor SB once again has to encounter it and go hysterical LOL.
@GB, yes two false hope in the scene for OYJ. So cruel writer. ^^
@GB,
Now, I am watching it for the 3rd time this episode, this is this scene made me think. They were meant to be…
Now the Killer gives the orders to SM instead. KC’s orders get forgotten. another manhwa character takes over as the main character.
And now, Yeon Joo see it’s her father face.
Dimensionnal door (only for space shortcut) at the end (because faceless sung moo draw it but we don’t know it yet).
This was when I got fed up with the show previously… Killer just turns up and invokes his own portal and disappears. Such an unfair advantage. At this stage KC does not know or remember that he can do something similar.
@GB,
That is the jakkanim’s fault. We will find out in the next episode WHY this happened!
I mean seriously, why jakkanim you did a deal with him?
Great end with the collage of the faces and faceless with a face LOL.
That transition is unexpected, that YJ is suddenly in KC’s hospital room, then suddenly back in her mother’s home. The explanation is given: that YJ remains in KC’s subconscious, and she’s called to him briefly as thoughts buried in his mind call to her even as he’s not aware of them.
It would have been a nice touch if KC had put YJ’s ring on her finger, but he just handed it to her. The romance genre KC is gone. Action hero KC is back.
Alcoholic Writer Oh is also back. You’d think he’d have taken advantage of his hospitalization to end his drinking.
Yes, Oh Sung Moo is Real Culprit. He not only created the murderous Real Culprit as a plot device, but he personally tried to kill flesh-and-blood KC. Let’s hope that the small part of Writer Oh’s heart that is still capable of loving his daughter becomes the variable that brings down the perpetrator of the perfect crime.
In order to create a happy ending to W, the W manhwa creation team unravel the perfect crime so that Real Culprit can be caught. Seriously, though, why didn’t all the previous years of searching for the perpetrator of the Kang family murders look at people who would have the skill with a competition pistol to put a bullet in the center of someone’s forehead? To me it seems obviousit was a former shooting athelete.
@GB, actually, the killer is only a 60s old guy. But he can control the author. Hopefully, else he would have no advantage over Kang Chul. For a villain to be good, he always have to surpass the hero in some fields.
@Cleo, I watched the series til the end so I know what you are talking about. Yes. That DEAL was something with such terrible consequences and SM thought that he did not need to honour it.
@Welmaris,
Good points!
Because at that time, in W they all believed the Prosecutor and now run for President Han Chul Ho.
In Jakkanim’s mind was not to solve the plot, but to kill Kang Chul, hence all this chaos that starts to happen…
@WE, Until this rewatch when the logic had become clearer, I didn’t like how shows just made the villain super powerful without rationale, just to add conflict.
Real Culprit implies that the prosecutor is complicit in his getting away with murder for 10 years. That is confirmed, when the prosecutor chooses his reputation and career over truth and justice. No matter the evidence, confession, etc., the prosecutor is laser focused on Kang Chul being guilty of the murders. Prosecutor, after all, is also just a plot device.
@Welmaris, it’s W manhwa, and that’s manhwa is unrealistic and badly written. Remember first scene, when Kang Chul father say to Kang Chul “shoot, shoot” and could make him panic. A good coatch don’t do that. The story of W is bad, so it’s ok they never did a search about an old colleague of KCH father (5 years ago moreover, then 10 years more).
Thanks for a fun party time everyone!
@WE, I’ll read you again. Still have the camerawork links to go through!
@Cleo take care, you know where to find me.
Bye @Welmaris @salteddust and anyone else here I may have missed out!
Because the months of W storyline that became the dream sequence do exist in the real world, published in the manhwa, it doesn’t disappear even if it is suppressed in the minds of the W world residents.
YJ is not able to do what KC asked: forget him, only thinking of him as a cartoon character. YJ’s love becomes another variable.
Nice rewatch, I go too, and will take some time to copy-past some script excerpts with comments tomorrow or a bit later. Thanks all, see you soon.
@GB Unnie,
True. That deal was the variation that alter the changed everything!
Yes my agapimeni, I know where to find you!
@Everyone, I enjoyed the Rewatch with you!
Enjoy your weekend!
The happy ending storyline Soo Bong told YJ hadn’t been created yet, so Real Culprit with Oh Sung Moo’s face was still at large, not yet killed by Prosecutor. Because he’s self aware, Real Culprit can alter the storyline: at this point KC is no longer self-aware, so he can’t. I also suspect that because Real Culprit merged with Writer Oh to become more human, he shares Writer’s Oh’s brain as well as face, so can anticipate the storyline Writer Oh and Soo Bong discussed.
Thanks to @WE’s excellent and detailed explanations of script writing and this script in particular, the discussion between SM and SB about ‘having to take out everything that overlaps’ and ‘there would be a hole no matter what clue we throw in’, etc. really caught my attention on this rewatch. It makes sense in the context of this drama with it’s careful scripting (again thanks @WE!) that meta conversation about script writing would occur (and here be driven by the character within the manhwa within the script within the drama…), but other kdramas do this to an extent I don’t think you find in other forms. I am thinking of ‘Run-On’ with it’s focus on subbing for example. Also, just the use of an industry to inform the drama like the publishing industry in ‘Romance is a Bonus Book’. In the Chinese dramas I have seen they use this to a more limited extent (the fashion industry in the 2020-2021 for ‘Count Your Lucky Stars’ and ‘Sunshine of My Life’), but in those drama’s its more the setting rather than anything else. In Run On, you get a sense of how difficult the translating can be when sub-titles are created, how hugely important it is to convey the meaning of the films so translated, and it also plays a part in the relationship of the characters (the immense amount of work, so devalued). Here the script writing (the fact that SM’s story-line was done so poorly with so many holes) becomes part of the plot and how meta is that!
Unless he gets his face, and mouth, back, or goes to the hospital to get a hydration line inserted, real-world Writer Oh has only about three days to live before he dies of dehydration.
@Cleo. The song I told you before, this one:
@Welmaris, faceless Sung-Moo isn’t anymore a being ruled by physical laws of our universe. He’s like the faceless killer in W, then in real world. An being without identification, with a body ruled by the manhwa logic of “unknow character”. He don’t need to breath, eat, drink, and can only talk with words in the air. The manhwa phenomenon subvert reality, like we saw in episode 8 (with a goosebump feeling), or even before.
@Salteddust. I love mind-blowing stories. My previous favorites was many movies like that, jdrama “liar game” and animes “death note”, “Kaiji” or more conventional, Sherlock holmes stories. But with “W”, my mind reached the highest TILT!! Mind-blowing, but with meta, but with plot-twists, but with logic, but with goosebump, but with fast pace, but with awesome script and direction, and so good background musics. It’s a feeling somewhere in the world, some people have build the perfect drama for my tastes. It’s love at first sight for the artwork. The kind of thing that don’t happens often, but I’m sure here, many people meet that feeling one day, for a few movies or series. Or at least, I hope so, because it’s a great feeling. It’s more easy to get that when it’s about songs of music.
Sung Moo vs Faceless Killer Airplane scene.
These are flashbacks from the previous episode, except that here, scene #6 is new, and scene #7 shows us the continuation. So it’s a “hook first” previous episode, then “show what happened” next episode.
Some details of the script are interesting such as:
The symbolism of the mirror.
This could not be used in the drama, probably because of too much technical difficulty to realize.
The words of the faceless killer appear first on the mirror. And Sung-Moo touches the mirror. And then the faceless Killer comes out of the mirror when he appears (he is even half in it). Since the killer and Sung-Moo are like the same person, it helps to have this deep feeling. Sung-Moo first sees himself in the mirror, but what comes out is his dark side, the killer.
The end of the last scene describes Sung-Moo’s nervous state and was well rendered in the drama. The screenwriter adds “The fear I had barely forgotten came back to life in an instant. This is something that is difficult to convey, and for that, an event in episode 8 helps to understand. It’s amazing how every little detail that happens has an importance in the story and no scene or detail is unnecessary. In episode 8, a teenager comes to ask Sung-Moo for his autograph and asks if W will have a sequel. Since the end of episode 6, we had time to forget an important fact: Sung-Moo thinks that now the manhwa is finished “end”. That nothing can change that anymore. So he is relieved that he will never have to face the pressure and possible threat of the faceless killer again (especially knowing that Kang Chul was able to move to another world). And now, his worst nightmare begins again.

#4. Airplane Toilet (AM)
Continued from scene 8, 59
Sung Moo washing his hands and tidying his hair. At this time, letters suddenly appear on the mirror.
{Who am I…?}
Sung Moo, ….??? For a moment, I have goosebumps in the back of my neck.
When I look around, there is nothing… The letters disappear in an instant…
Even when I touch the mirror with trembling hands, there is nothing, but at this time, the letters appear again.
{Who am I..?}
Sung Moo, ….?!!!!
From then on, like a runaway, the sentences floated everywhere…
{Where is Kang Chul?}
{Who am I…?}
{Why don’t you tell me who I am?}
{Who am I? Find me!}
Sung Moo frantically unlocks the lock and leaves, but a black hand comes out from behind and covers Sung Moo’s hand as he tries to unlock it. Sung Moo, ….!!!!!
Then, with the rest of his hand, he covered Sung Moo’s mouth from screaming…!
{You betrayed me}
Sung Moo, !!!

#5. On the plane (morning)
Episode 8 in 60 scenes
A flight attendant is passing by with a drink, and I hear something clattering in the bathroom.. The flight attendant is doing something and knocking.

#6. Airplane Toilet (AM)
The real criminal’s body and black gloved hands, half out of the mirror strangling Sung Moo’s neck.
Sung Moo, desperately defiant, unable to withstand the immense power of his grasp…
The two wrestle with each other in a small bathroom, twisting their bodies.
The cramped toilet is filled with sentences that the real criminal continues to spit everywhere.
{Why didn’t you keep your promise?} {You said you would find me!}
{Who am I?} {Who am I!} {Give me my face!}
Outside, the flight attendant shouted ‘Guests! customer! Are you okay?’ A knock on the door is heard, and Sung Moo is strangled to death, being pushed against the wall.
Right before Sung Moo’s breath passed, I wondered if Jinbeom’s hand suddenly loosened…
The real criminal is suddenly sucked into the mirror and disappears in an instant.
Sung Moo, ….!!!

#7. On the plane (morning)
Continued from episode 8, 60 scenes.
When the sound stopped and it became quiet, the flight attendant was afraid to do something and approached…
At this time, the light changes to {empty} with the sound of the lock being opened.
The flight attendant, startled, stepped back, and the door swung open, and Sung Moo was standing there.
STEWARDESS – (expression)
SUNG MOO – (Still out of breath, hair messed up and shirt buttons ripped) ……
STEWARDESS – (surprised) Guest.. are you okay..? What sound…
SUNG MOO – …… (Just passing the crew)
STEWARDESS – (….??)
The passengers and crew all stare, Sung Moo staggers over to his seat and sits down.
FRIEND1 – (I woke up briefly from sleep) What’s noisy..?
Sung Moo, sits down without a word… and picks up the book he was reading.
But sweat is dripping down his forehead… His eyes are shaking and his hands are shaking.
The fear I had barely forgotten came back to life in an instant.
Two example scenes for the voice-overs.
In this episode, Yeon-Joo has very scattered voice-overs. And yet, we keep the connection in our mind, as if the scenes are close to each other.
The scene in the cab. Just showing the manhwa on the phone and Sung-Moo’s face was not enough to convey the emotion and understanding of what Sung-Moo now knows. Hence this very amazing voice-over of Soo-Bong (which we guess comes from a phone conversation Sung-Moo had just before). You really had to have this idea! Naturally, I would have just written a scene showing the phone conversation. It’s a huge job that I might have to do one day: weigh each scene, and check if it should be done differently in terms of the chronology of the scenes or their rendering.

Soo Hee, sitting by the bed, watching Kang Chul fall asleep.
YEON JOO – (E) Not even the characters in the cartoon… none of them have disappeared.
Soo Hee, who sees him sleeping, unlike when he is nagging, with affectionate eyes.
I wipe the sweat from Kang Chul’s forehead with a towel.

#17. In a taxi (at night)
Sung Moo is browsing the manga on his cell phone.
SOO BONG – (Frightened, E) Last night, three comics were uploaded..!
Sung Moo and Yeon Joo fell to the floor on their foreheads, stopping at a dead cartoon cut
SOO BONG – (Crying, E) My sister was also shot to death..! Appeared in an instant and shot..!
SUNG MOO – (Blood gushing upside down at the fact that he tried to kill Yeon Joo as well as himself…
Yeon-Joo returns short times in the manhwa.
Scene #27, the moment when Yeon-Joo tries to touch Kang Chul is not written.
Scene #32, it indicates well that Yeon-Joo and Kang Chul have time to look at each other. On the other hand the door closes quickly in the script.
Scene #33, “Dazed in despair…”, which the director did perfectly with the two shots of Yeon-Joo standing still. Really a “dazed” feeling.

Yeon Joo, facial expression.
There was no wall clock that I was looking at, and the window that immediately let in bright sunlight was in front of me.
An unfamiliar place, not the dark living room from before
Yeon Joo, !! No way… and my heart is beating right away.
Yeon Joo slowly turned her head, her expression.
I’m already in Kang Chul’s hospital room. There is Kang Chul sleeping in bed.
Yeon Joo, I can’t believe the situation right now… I’m not sure if I’m dreaming…
Still, like a magnet, I move towards Kang Chul.
At this time, a knock is heard outside and Kang Chul opens his eyes.
Yeon Joo, ….!! The moment I was about to sing Kang Chul

DO YOON – But why doesn’t it come out?
HYUN SUK – My temper, I’m dying, I’m really..
KANG CHUL – (Looking at Hyun Suk) Are you here..?
HYUN SUK – Representative Kang Eo. how are you? (Coming)
KANG CHUL – (wakes less sleep) I keep falling asleep.. How many pills have you put on?

Yeon Joo, …..!! I get up and go to the door, but at this time from behind
NURSE – (E) Wait a minute.
A nurse walks past Yeon Joo with syringes and vials and bandages.
A nurse enters the hospital room door.
Through the open door, Kang Chul is seen reading a book, leaning on the bed.
Yeon Joo, ….!! As the door opens, Kang Chul looks towards the door.
As if seeing Yeon Joo, the moment their eyes met, the door immediately closed.

#33. Hospital parking lot (daytime)
Yeon Joo, the look on her face…
Yeon Joo returned to the car in an instant. Dazed in despair…
Last trip of Yeon-Joo in W because of the dream of Kang Chul.
Very interesting because there are many differences between the script and the drama.
In the script, Yeon-Joo arrives in W and immediately hits Kang Chul. And that’s what makes her drop her ring. And it is Kang Chul who will run to get the ring back, before he falls down a staircase. (He feels responsible because the ring fell down because he hit Yeon-Joo, even if it’s rather her who hit him, lol).
However, the scene in the drama is much more fun: Yeon-Joo runs headlong without seeing that she’s back in W, and BUMP! she bangs her head against Kang Chul’s arm. It’s also not easy to find a staircase in this place, since it takes place in the middle of the central hall.
The conversation between Do-Yoon and Kang Chul takes place in the car in the script.
Kang Chul can just look at Yeon-Joo one last time in the rear view mirror.
This must be difficult to do because of the position of the car at the exit.
And also, it robs the scene of a lot of eye contact between Yeon-Joo and Kang Chul. In the drama, each of the two men’s lines can be reinforced by a visual on Yeon-Joo sad, when they look at her and talk about her.

#34. Operating Room Hand Sanitization Room (Daytime)
YEON JOO – (E) The third time I saw him… a week later.
In Kang Chul’s world, two months had passed.
Yeon Joo, Suk Bum, and Prof Park in scrubs are washing their hands side by side.
PROF PARK – (looking at Yeon Joo) What is that?
YEON JOO – (Did not listen and only wash hands)
PROF PARK – Isn’t that a ring?
YEON JOO – (That night) Yes..?
PROF PARK – (raises his feet as if spreading his shins) This is Dizilla, and the guy who does surgery every day!
YEON JOO – I’m sorry. (I forgot, I’m trying to get rid of it)
SUK BUM – Oh~ (Grabs Yeon Joo’s hand) Those eggs are big? Isn’t this just a ring?
Why are you wearing this? did you secretly marry me?
YEON JOO – (Face)
PROF PARK – (Smiling) What’s a marriage without a lover? I found out when I saw Oh Yeon Joo go on a blind date. He’s going to be an old man living alone. You say there are a lot of old virgins living alone with cats? I’m just going that route.
SUK BUM – (Laughs) Uh, I can sympathize strangely.
YEON JOO – (With an awkward smile without saying anything)
PROF PARK – (entering) Get it out of here!
YEON JOO – ….. Yes.
Prof Park and Suk Bum walk into the operating room…
Yeon Joo sighs and takes the wedding ring off her finger.

#35. In front of the hospital entrance (daytime)
Yeon Joo, facial expression. Yeon Joo, who is standing in front of the hospital entrance, is looking around in bewilderment, but at this time, he opens the revolving door from behind and bumps into someone who was coming out.
Yeon Joo, drop the ring you were holding
YEON JOO – (…! Trying to pick it up)
KANG CHUL – (E) Uh, sorry,
YEON JOO – (Pauses at that sound, turns around)
Kang Chul was just about to come out of the hospital, talking on his cell phone.
YEON JOO – (…!!!)
KANG CHUL – (lowing down the phone) Are you okay?
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – (Your eyes are clearly not recognizing Yeon Joo)
YEON JOO – (Those eyes make me speechless for a moment)
KANG CHUL – Huh? that,
Kang Chul finds the ring dropped by Yeon Joo rolls down the stairs.
KANG CHUL – (runs straight away) Uh- no no no…! (The ring that continues to roll quickly grabs it just before it falls into the drain.)
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – Whoa.. (smiling and showing that the ring is safe)
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – (Come back) Sorry. i can’t see (Hands the ring to Yeon Joo)
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – I almost got into trouble. Looks like an expensive ring. (Smiles)
YEON JOO – (Looking like you can’t recognize yourself even when you see the ring) ……
KANG CHUL – (wakes eyes and goes down, putting the phone back to his ear) Hello. Oh sorry, I’m at the front door right now. Can’t you see the car? where?
At this time, Kang Chul’s car runs and squeaks and stands in front of Kang Chul.
DO YOON – (Coming out of the driver’s seat) I’m here.
KANG CHUL – (Happy, hang up the phone, go to the driver’s seat and clench fists intimately with Do Yoon)
Do Yoon gets into the passenger seat and Kang Chul gets into the driver’s seat, but suddenly feels his gaze and turns around.
Seeing Yeon Joo standing still and staring at her…
Kang Chul, what…? I want to get in the car for a while.

Yeon Joo, as the last regret that I had thought of had disappeared, the tears I had endured are pouring out…
Suk Bum comes out of the operating room to find Yeon Joo.
SUK BUM – Hey, what are you doing? (surprised) Why?
Yeon Joo squatting and crying.
Suk Bum was surprised and looked at her with tears in her eyes, and Nurse Kim was also surprised to see me.
Prof Park finally came out and saw it… Seeing her crying uncontrollably..
YEON JOO – (E) After getting better and getting busy, Kang Chul couldn’t even dream…
He forgot me forever.
Soo-Bong goes back to Sung-Moo.
A good visual detail added in the drama and not in the script: Soo-Bong shows a talisman stuck behind his tablet. Funny but also effective in the context of a very long line of dialogue.
Scene #45, technically SJJ needs a new scene because of the montage. However, the C#4 part of the montage is a return to scene #44. I would have written a new scene instead of C#4. It’s more in line with what she’s doing elsewhere. There is also the possibility of using FLASHBACK INSERT. But as there are 3 montage cut-scenes, and they are pasted and with a lot of text, a dedicated Montage cut-scene is better.
Sung-Moo starts to read Kang Chul’s USB drive earlier in the episode. However, great idea… SJJ shows us the sequel only now! For the obvious reason that it’s now that it serves the purpose of the story, as Soo-Bong and Sung-Moo prepare their plan.
Added to that, the usual “hook first”, “explain later” technique… What is Soo-Bong doing in front of Sung-Moo’s house? What are these mysterious W reports that Sung-Moo prints?

SOO BONG – (Weekly week after week) You suddenly called.. Yoon Hee and Sun Mi can only come on Wednesday..
SUNG MOO – Just the two of us.
SOO BONG – (reluctant, sighing) But sir… I was actually on my way home. I’m going to give up on that manga… I’m really scared… Teacher, I haven’t slept through the night ever since I was shot. I’ve never slept well.. (crying) I’m drawing a cartoon, but why do I have to be threatened with my life? These days, I go to church, visit temples, and wear amulets.. .. Actually, coming here again is a bit too much..
SUNG MOO – (OL) Called to finish the ending properly.
SOO BONG – (Pause)
SUNG MOO – (Coming out with a glass) To end W with a happy ending.
SOO BONG – (?!) If it’s a happy ending…
SUNG MOO – Kang Chul will catch the real culprit, punish him, and remove the real culprit from the manga forever.
I just let it go, because I don’t know what will happen again.
SOO BONG – (…!) You kill the real bum?
SUNG MOO – Can I just leave the guy who killed three real people and tried to kill my daughter as well?
(Crazy cynicism) The killer is also my baby? I have to deal with it.

Sitting on Sung Moo and Yeon Joo’s bed, reading Kang Chul’s messages on her cell phone…
KANG CHUL – (E) To destroy the true criminal, you must first create the true criminal.
Instead of being like a ghost like now, as a human that I can catch.
C#2. Penthouse Conference Room (9 episodes 5 scenes)
Watching Kang Chul writing the report
KANG CHUL – (E) Sends you the entire W project report as an attachment.
Here, there are investigation records of a total of three hundred fifty-three suspects.
C#3. Sung Moo’s Studio (Night)
Sung Moo, emptying his whiskey glass, reading the printed file.
W Project reports are stacked on the copier.
KANG CHUL – (E) You must create a new character excluding them.
Only then can I convince myself, and only when I am convinced can this manga be over.
C#4. Sung Moo’s living room (daytime)
Soo Bong moves the files from the studio to his desk.
Sung Moo comes out with a sketchbook
SUNG MOO – You should read all of this from now on and remove the overlapping settings. Or Kang Chul would be suspicious. If Kang Chul doubts, it starts again. That damn bastard’s curse…
SOO BONG – (I can’t afford it) But sir.. You made it a complete crime, how do you make a real criminal..? Any clue will make a hole.
SUNG MOO – No holes. That’s unavoidable.
So, you have to make a face that you can believe that Kang Chul is the real culprit.
SOO BONG – Kang Chul has a trustworthy face..?
SUNG MOO – The face is set. (throws the sketchbook)
Soo Bong, your expression changes while you are doing something (not showing the picture)
SOO BONG – Uh…?
SUNG MOO – (drinking) Kang Chul is the only real culprit.
The revelation of the face of the killer.
Here takes place this real puzzle of scenes (to be put in the context of the episode) to reveal to everyone AT THE SAME TIME the face of the killer!!!
While Kang Chul is about to see the video with the killer, other scenes are interspersed to build up the suspense “What does the killer look like?”:
#52, the killer in the bathroom. We just see that he takes off a glove. This was done differently in the drama, we just see that he took off his outfit, and understand that now it’s not a black silhouette but flesh.
#53, in the script, there are more steps. The drama pasted scenes #53 and #55 together, then showed scenes #54 and #56 pasted together. This has little impact. The main reason for this change: I think it’s because of scene #53. Kang Chul is looking at the screen but the audience can’t see anything. This makes the scene not very readable and not very logical. And the short time when the screen is shown in the scene, we would also have time to recognize Sung-Moo.
At #57, we return with Soo-Bong and Sung-Moo before returning to the action in W.
#60, just after, it is the turn of Yeon-Joo. As we can see, the clowning of teacher Park (making W with fingers, then with arms) have been added in the drama. If you have seen pictures of the cast, often you will find people doing W with fingers. Everyone looks very excited about the drama, and certainly someone quickly got the idea to do W with his/her fingers. Then everyone ended up doing the same. And finally, the idea was used in the drama itself!
In conclusion, in a very short space of time, all the important characters learn who the killer is!
Kang Chul, Soo-Bong, Yeon-Joo, and… the killer himself!
And of course, the whole episode had to be structured to achieve this result, on top of everything else!

PROF PARK – Hey Oh Yeon Joo~! did you see saw?
YEON JOO – Yes?
PROF PARK – (Happy) Did you see Boobleyu?
YEON JOO – No, not yet…
PROF PARK – Hey~ Return of the King~ Oh Sung Moo, the writer I admire, is finally back..!
Oh Yeon Joo is gone, so now things are going well! Have you seen W?
YEON JOO – (Face)
PROF PARK – Do you know how heartbreaking it was for me to watch W break down for months? The writer is not feeling well, so I can’t say anything.. But now he has awakened. Hey, to be honest, I’m talking now, but the stories of the past few months have been completely rubbish. 3rd class childish pants romance. Does that make sense?
YEON JOO – ……
PROF PARK – But I wonder if the writer also realized that.. Everything is neatly organized as a dream.
(clenched fists) Yeah Kang Chul! I’m starting over from now on! Catch the culprit! Joining Yoon Soo Hee! You’re walking the right way!
YEON JOO – (Face)
PROF PARK – Is your father in good shape? I tell you not to overdo it.
Let me tell you that I am looking forward to it. okay?
YEON JOO – Yes…
PROF PARK – (Pauses in excitement) Oh but. Why does Jinbeom look the same as the author?
YEON JOO – Yes?
PROF PARK – The author’s face. Ah, is it? Like Alfred Hitchcock? Leaving your face on your work? (Hadah) Hey… Even that is cool~ The culprit is the author’s face… Big..
YEON JOO – …..? (I turn on the computer immediately after hearing a story I’ve never heard of)
The fictional manhwa, which has not yet been drawn and published.
Except perhaps the first scene, since it is the only one that will actually take place. Hence the importance of repeating this scene later to make the difference in trajectory between the fictional and the real facts.
The only problem is that this scene is a bit boring and long. Nothing grandiose, just an enumeration of facts. Where it will become a real problem is when this scene will be seen a 3rd time in episode 10. And then, it’s really one flashback too many!
Otherwise, I’m posting this because it’s a simple and clean Montage. Not as impressive as the 25 sub-scene montage in episode 3, but still 13 scenes. In my episode 11 scene #12 of W season 2, I broke the W record (it wasn’t by calculation, it’s justified, lol) since I have a Montage with 51 sub-scenes.
You have to remember that this Montage takes place when Soo-Bong is talking with Yeon-Joo on the phone. (Soo-Bong is shopping at the supermarket).
However, the montage contains a Flashback scene in C#5!
The continuation of the conversation between Sung-Moo and Soo-Bong, of course, when it serves the story. This gives us a better idea of the technique used by SJJ for her scenes structure. The “hook first, explain later” technique, and the “show it when it matters” technique. Chronological linearity doesn’t matter, she favors the narrative in an extreme way.

#62. cartoon content montage
C#1. studio (daytime)
{W} Recording is in progress. The MC is speaking on stage.
MC – Please take a closer look at this picture.
In the stage video, Sung Moo’s black box video capture photo is displayed.
MC – This is the main suspect in the attack of Kang Chul at the Prime Hotel on June 22. A man who appears to be in his late 50’s to early 60’s. On the day of the incident, he was wearing a gray hoodie and a khaki t-shirt and navy blue pants underneath. He wears glasses, has a half-white beard, and is about 175 centimeters tall.
C#2. In front of the real criminal’s apartment (daytime)
A very dilapidated redevelopment apartment complex.
The police handcuff Sung Moo and drag him out of the entrance.
Sung Moo’s eyes, maddening, ragged clothes, and an alcoholic appearance.
SOO BONG – (E) Eventually, we will find out through the tip. My name is Han Sang-hoon. 61 years old. Kang Chul’s father was a colleague when he was a shooter. Kang Chul’s father had a sense of harm. He has a long history of psychiatric treatment, and in a word, paranoid, crazy.
C#3. Jinbeom’s apartment living room (daytime)
The cops are scouring the narrow apartment building, which is a mess of garbage.
Bloody knives from chests of drawers and sinks, Kang Chul’s family photos, diaries, pistols, etc. are coming out one after another.. In a cut-cut that puts evidence in a plastic bag.
SOO BONG – (E) All the evidence comes out of the house. A knife with Kang Chul’s blood and fingerprints.
Kang Chul’s family photos and even the crime log.
C#4. Police Station Investigation Room (Daytime)
Sung Moo, sitting in handcuffs. At this time, Detective Park opens the door and Kang Chul enters.
DETECTIVE PARK – Let’s talk for a second.
KANG CHUL – Thank you. (Looking at Sung Moo)
SUNG MOO – (Sighs with shameless eyes)
The two are sitting facing each other. Sung Moo’s statement, with a jump cut.
SUNG MOO – (sarcastic) Yeah I killed him.
KANG CHUL – (…..!)
SUNG MOO – Your father was.. He used to be a very low-key guy. arrogant crab. The day before that, we met by chance at a bar.. Was it the first time in 5 years? I joked again. the pup is unlucky.
KANG CHUL – (expression)
SUNG MOO – I just went in to kill your father… but I ended up killing them all.
If you were there, we would have looked together back then.
KANG CHUL – (…!)
SUNG MOO – I thought I would be caught soon. But the prosecutor bastard thought you were the real culprit?
Are you stupid or are you kidding me? (Smiling) I was mad.
KANG CHUL – (expression)
SUNG MOO – But who would have thought you would find me for 10 years? Hey.. he was jingle jingle. So I called him on the roof and stabbed him… But he didn’t die? Unlucky is the same as Abby…
KANG CHUL – (In the end, he can’t stand it and jumps over the desk, grabs the collar and punches him)
The two fell to the floor, and Detective Park and Do Yoon, who were outside, rushed in and ripped out Kang Chul, who was punching in anger.
SOO BONG – (E) But it doesn’t end there
C#5. Sung Moo’s Studio (Daytime)
Sung Moo continuing to explain to Soo Bong from scene 53.
SUNG MOO – The real criminal must be killed and eliminated in the manga. so that there is no regression.
SOO BONG – (surprised) Kang Chul commits retaliatory murder?
SUNG MOO – That’s not a happy ending. Killing the villain is what the villain does.
C#6. Chul Ho’s Chamber (Night)
. Chul Ho disassembled and moved back and forth, and Assemblyman 1 (appeared in episode 5, 43 scene C#22) sat down and talked. {W} is playing on TV…
MC – (E) The murder of Kang Yoon’s family, which has been aired on W several times over the past 5 years. You will all remember. Finally, the clue to that long and tedious pursuit is unraveled. On August 20, 10 years and 2 months after the incident, the suspect Han confessed to all the crimes.
LAWMAKER – (sighs) You’ve already confessed, so it’s over.
CHUL HO – (Like a groan) That bastard.. Not that..! Kang Chul gave me money..! no!
LAWMAKER – Look at this. the game is over You lost to Kang Chul.
CHUL HO – (Face)
LAWMAKER – to resign voluntarily.
CHUL HO – (…!! Feeling betrayed) Come all the way here… to get down…?
LAWMAKER – (Cool) Don’t bring everyone down like water ghosts, go down alone.
CHUL HO – (Face)
C#7. In Chul Ho’s Car (Night)
Chul Ho, with blood-drenched eyes, is shaking his head.
SOO BONG – (E) Han Chul Ho, who misses the president right in front of him, makes him go crazy.
CHUL HO – (pulls out his cell phone and dials somewhere) you bastards… (Let’s pick it up) Uh hello. good buy What are your kids doing?
C#8. In front of the police station (night)
Sung Moo, handcuffed, falls into a parked car with a popping sound when a cut is made.
The car was smashed and the glass was smashed.. He died with his eyes open.
SOO BONG – (E) Disguised as suicide and killed…
C#9. In front of the police station (at night).
As I put Sung Moo’s body on the bed, I see a note in my hand…
Detective Park forcibly stretches out her hand and opens the note.
SOO BONG – (E) Kang Chul took money and made a fake will that he confessed to lies…
C#10. Chul Ho’s office (daytime)
Chul Ho, bewildered, with a ridiculous expression on his face while watching TV..
The secretary is standing behind him with a puzzled expression.
SOO BONG – (E) Kang Chul flips the board again.
C#11. broadcast video insert
Mosaicized service thugs are sitting. Video of Hyun Suk being interviewed.
The voice is altered and comes out with subtitles.
THUG – (Modulation, E) That yangban ordered it. Also making fake wills.
Oh, I do that sometimes. I didn’t say kill, but I mean kill.
HYUN SUK – Who is the yangban you are talking about?
THUG – (modulation, E) Han Chul Ho. The person who is going to be president this time.
C#12. Chul Ho’s office (daytime)
CHUL HO – (!! After confirming the final blow, immediately turn it off with the remote control)
SECRETARY – (surprised that Chul Ho did such a thing) Senator… Is that real…?
Chul Ho, sitting there without saying a word… and laughing out loud…
Like a crazy person, the laughter gets louder and louder… Secretary, expression.
C#13. Corner of the police station (daytime)
Chul Ho is arrested and taken away by Detective Park and other police officers.
All the reporters gathered and took pictures, and there was a commotion.
The image changes to a TV video and subtitles appear.
{Rep. Han Chul Ho on suspicion of contract murder by Han Sang-hoon, urgent arrest}
SOO BONG – (E) The real criminal dies and Han Chul Ho goes to jail. It’s purely a wind chime.
The fictional ending of W.
Difference between script and drama.
The script shows Soo Hee in a café and does not insist much on the emotion of the scene (curiously!). The drama shows a tender gesture when Kang Chul caresses So-Hee’s head.
However, the script shows “END” appearing in the scene. It’s a pity that this was not kept in the drama (as well as the “To be continued” when Kang Chul jumps from the roof). Probably a problem of focus. Difficult to insert this when the camera is focused on the emotion of the characters.
Scene #66: Soo-Bong’s funny reaction is not in the script, when he has a doubt and is afraid that Yeon-Joo has gone back to the manwha because she takes time to answer.
_________________________________________________
#65. In front of the crosswalk (daytime)
near the station. Kang Chul standing in front of the crosswalk.
You can see Soo Hee drinking coffee and waiting through the cafe window across the street.
Seeing Soo Hee, who I’ve never thought deeply about, because I’m used to being by my side for a long time…
Soo Hee suddenly looks out and finds Kang Chul, looking at why he’s late and saying something.
As he smiles and turns to blue light, as he crosses towards Soo Hee.
The subtitle “End” appears.
SOO BONG – (E) I’m just going to end this with only a lingering feeling that the two of us will do well.

#66. Thoracic Surgery Clinic (evening)
YEON JOO – …….
SOO BONG – (No words E) Hello..? Are you listening..?
YEON JOO – ……. That’s right… (and) But…
SOO BONG – (E) Huh?
YEON JOO – It’s so… it’s pointless Soo Bong… (trying to speak lightly) No one there remembers me… No one here knows what I’ve been through…
(empty smile) I don’t have a single picture. We didn’t take a picture together, like an idiot.
SOO BONG – (E) Noona..
YEON JOO – So you know what I did yesterday..?
Yeon-Joo sticks pictures on the window, then her mother intervenes.
A different kind of montage since there is no indication of place/time. The montage is used to make the difference between flashback of live scenes corresponding to manhwa images. Technique I used after seeing this, consisting of quickly pasting the description directly behind the sub-scene number.
I prefer when SJJ uses this in her script because it’s more rigorous. She does indicate the keyword “Dissolve” which makes this clear. However, she doesn’t give the scene number of the source flashback as she often does (this must be very painful to spot, especially if the order of the scenes change due to corrections).
The conflict between Yeon-Joo and her mother. Unfortunately, bad translation of some expressions. However, we can see that the conflict is much more intense than in the drama. The drama shows rather Yeon-Joo down and sad. In the script, she has to fight with her mother to keep her photos. And the line “It’s more important than a wedding photo!”. The drama even takes a little time to show Yeon-Joo crying one last time (and provide a better dissolve transition with the next scene)
I’m not good at writing this kind of slow scene. The idea doesn’t come naturally to me. I managed to get one in my episode 10, scene #8.
In writing this, I think SJJ knows that in this scene, there will be a song. Anyway, when I did it, I said that in my mind, “here’s a song”! I have a few other scenes where I think there might be a song. I actually looked for songs and tried to see if it fit. Same with the background music.
Example, W s2, episode 07, scene #13, I found this song that fits very well:

#69. Manga Cut + Reminiscence Montage + Yeon Joo’s House Yeon Joo’s Room (Night)
A flashback video and a cartoon cut that follows it.
Yeon Joo, who puts cartoons on the wall as if pasting pictures of memories, intersects.
(** Even if it’s not necessarily the cuts below, it would be an impressive cut with memories of the two of them. Contents from episode 1 until falling off the roof)
C#1. The first episode of Yeon Joo’s cartoon cuts, which met on the roof of the hotel and puts a ballpoint pen into Kang Chul, continues in a row.. (Existing cut)
C#2. It wakes up the moment I plug it in and leads to Kang Chul looking at Yeon Joo.
C#3. Episode 2, Yeon Joo suddenly came to Kang Chul and kissed her at the store.
C#4. Dissolved into a kissing manga cut (existing cut)
C#5. Episode 3, Kang Chul, suddenly came to Yeon Joo and kissed her when he said that he disappeared after kissing him in the bathroom of the penthouse.
C#6. Dissolves into a kissing cartoon cut
C#7. In the 4th episode, in the penthouse guest room, shaking hands of reconciliation
C#8. Dissolves into cartoon cuts shaking hands
C#9. The 4th time, in the meeting room, face-to-face conversation
C#10. Dissolved into a meeting room cartoon cut
C#11. Episode 5, Kang Chul came to the hospital and kissed Yeon Joo..
C#12. Dissolved into hospital kiss cartoon cuts…
C#13. In episode 6, Yeon Joo finds Kang Chul dead in the water.
C#14. It dissolves into cartoon cuts in the water…
C#15. Episode 7, Kang Chul tying Yeon Joo’s hair in the penthouse bathroom.

C#21. Episode 8, Kang Chul tying Yeon Joo’s shoelaces in the elevator…
C#22. A cartoon cut by Kang Chul kneeling and tying shoelaces.

#70. Reminiscence – Yeon Joo’s house, Yeon Joo’s room (Night)
Scenes of memories stuck on the wall all of a sudden.
My last memory… Kneeling in the elevator and touching my fingers, missing Kang Chul, who tied my shoelaces…
At this time, Soo Sun comes in with a watermelon tray.
SOO SUN – Eat watermelon. (do) What are you doing?
YEON JOO – (turning around quickly)
SOO SUN – (Frowning at the cartoon on the wall) Ooh, what is this? messy~
YEON JOO – Don’t take it off, never.
SOO SUN – You are 30. You have to pay your age. This is not an elementary school room.
(Putting down the watermelon) I can’t live… (Let’s take it off)
YEON JOO – (blocking) Don’t do it~
SOO SUN – (slaps on the back) When are you really going to grow up? It’s not even a picture of a lover..!
It’s not cool to hang a wedding photo, but now~ (Let’s try to take it off again)
YEON JOO – (blocking the wall firmly) Don’t take it off!
SOO SUN – (Wonderful)
YEON JOO – (Tears ping) It’s more important than a wedding photo!
SOO SUN – (surprised expression on the momentum)
Soo-Bong meets faceless Sung-Moo.
SJJ indicates the visual necessary to render the surprise in the scene.
So Sung-Moo must not be visible. Here shown from behind.
In the drama, he just looks like he’s napping on his tablet, but the meaning is preserved, we can’t see him.
The important thing here is “A man in a black silhouette without a face is sitting”
In the script, Sung-Moo was supposed to have the exact same appearance as the faceless killer. The reason is given in the script when the characters are introduced on the introduction page of the manhwa. Here the extract of the previous episode:
_________________________________________________
KANG CHUL – (E) character.
At first, the characters were created for a purpose necessary for the story.
C#2. A cartoon cut of the real criminal (with a question mark in the shape of a black shadow)
SUBTITLES – The mysterious man. A murderer who annihilated Kang Chul’s family.
************************************
For the mysterious killer, there is a black silhouette with a question mark.
This gives a better cohesion manhwa/character. And a better cohesion Sung-Moo/Faceless Killer. There can only be one, the other must remain unknown and as a black silhouette. However, it was certainly a nightmare to achieve this because faceless Sung-Moo appears in many, many scenes. And there is no way to cheat by putting him in a full leather outfit as it is the case for the killer (here the CGI can be inserted on his black face). Knowing that the faceless zombie trick was not easy to do either.
A last word about the actor Lee Si Eon. We have 4 exceptional actors in this drama, and he is one of them. We can compare the script with what he brings in the scene. When he wipes his eyes by putting his fingers in his fake glasses.
You can even compare the script of any scene where he appears, and see what he does with it on screen. So inventive, whether it’s reactions (not in the script) or even short additional lines (not in the script).
I gave another example earlier, with his reaction when Yeon-Joo waits before speaking. Probably other scenes before (I didn’t have the presence of mind to show them), and other scenes in the following episodes.

#85. Sung Moo’s Studio (Night)
Soo Bong, opening the door and peering in.
Back view of Sung Moo sitting on a desk chair as he was working.
SOO BONG – Sir. I bought jokbal.
SUNG MOO – (No answer)
SOO BONG – (? Strange) Sir…?
As you approach, a caption suddenly appears in front of you.
{Is it Soo Bong..?}
Soo Bong, ….?!!! I was surprised to see the subtitles. I take a step back in surprise.
Sung Moo turning the chair towards Soo Bong.. Soo Bong, …?!!!
A man in a black silhouette without a face is sitting.
SOO BONG – Uh…!! uh uh!!!! (Stumbling on the threshold in surprise. He hit his butt and thought he was the real culprit) Please help me..! Help me…!!
{Soo Bong, it’s me..}
Soo Bong, ….??!!
A man waking up. He’s obviously wearing Sung Moo’s clothes… and has the same physique as Sung Moo. He has a pen in his hand… he’s different from the real criminal.
{Soo Bong, what happened..?}
{Where did my face go?}
Soo Bong, …???!!
Sung Moo, whose face has disappeared, touches his face with his blackened hands and makes a bewildered gesture…
{My face is gone…}
SOO BONG – (Screaming) Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Scene #85, as a difference, I forgot to say:
The drama shows Soo-Bong faint. And even a Sung-Moo voice-over (killer one) saying “sit down”. I don’t know if it’s better or not. It gives foreshadowing that the killer control Sung-Moo. Maybe too explicit to keep the mystery. If we takes the hard way.
@GB, but for you, it’s probably better because you already have a reason why there could be a transpatial door in the W studio. Director Jung Dae-Yoon took the soft way for helping the audience. 😉
Thank you @WE. Yes, I’d like to know the reasons why a little earlier after weeks of guesswork!!! Some mysteries get irritating when stretched too long, simply because Show refused to give us the relevant scenes in chronological sequence!!!! The mystery therefore was only a mystery because facts were hidden from us, and I find fault with this if if goes on too long or happens too many times.
I shall go upthread to read your posts slowly. As usual, I’m getting sleepy too early. 😑 😴 😪 🥱
Dear @pkml3, please open up the Episode 10 rewatch thread for “W – Two Worlds”. Much thanks!!
You got me, dear @GB. I’m just resting here in the garden with my iced tea and slice of banana bread when you posted. 😂😂 Give me a minute; I’ll see if I can do it on my iPhone.
Heh! @pkml3 I was wondering what you were doing for ‘tea time’. It would be considered dinner time over here.
I’ve just had my breakfast of a slice of bread and cream cheese with chocolate/Milo and milk for beverage. I’ll have a banana later.
🥪 🍞 🧋 🫖 🧊☕ 🍌 😝 😂
The Open Thread has to wait till I go inside, @GB. I forgot my admin password! 🤦♀️😂
It’s been a hectic week at work but sitting outside in a green oasis helps me calm down. Plus, a yellow garden bench shaped like a butterfly was delivered today (a belated Mother’s Day gift from son #2) and I was looking for a good spot near the petunias and lavender. But I see more bees than butterflies in this corner of the garden. 🐝 🐝🐝
Don’t you just love butterflies?
@pkml3 you get a yellow garden bench but last evening I bought a bright yellow table fan to offset the terrible humidity, without always needing to switch on the a/c. Suddenly the temperatures dropped anyway, so the fan was more than adequate.
I love butterflies and see so few nowadays. I did however see a huge grasshopper that bowled me over. Even my grown up ‘children’ came to take a look. The creatures I miss are ladybirds. I used to see them when I was a kid but haven’t seen one in decades.
I hate it that everything requires a password. I have no choice but to write them down. No way I can keep track of which goes with which app!!!
