Yumi’s Cells 2: Eps 9 & 10 Open Thread

The thread is now open.

When I see this,

#yumi's cells 2 from boys be ambitious#yumi's cells 2 from boys be ambitioussource: koreandragon’s tumblr

I can’t help remembering that the actress Kim GoEun once dated this old man, Shin HaKyun, in 2016-2017 while filming “Goblin” with Gong Yoo.

Tumblr mediasource: swallowedabug’s tumgir

I don’t do “ships” because an actress’ taste in lovers in real life may be as different as night and day from her lover in the drama. Besides, part of being a great actress is making us believe in her romance with her co-star. I’m glad that we can appreciate Kim GoEun’s performance without wanting her to date her leading man off-camera.

Let’s enjoy the show!

  1. Thank you @Packmule3! Loved this scene in the show.

Didn’t know about the guy KGE dated while on Goblin. News.

From interviews and BTS videos, KGE and PJY seem to have a relaxed friendship off camera …lots of mutual joshing… that seems to help them create these marvelous scenes when on camera.

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3. What, is it time for Yumi again?!?

I knew about her off screen relationship with Shin Ha Kyun. They had a mutual interest in diving or some water sport, I believe, and bonded over that.

She’s one actress who can convince me that she’s interested in the most unlikely guys, LOL. I still like her best in Goblin. Her being a ‘child’ thing was totally convincing. The other actress I really like as an adult ‘child’ is Kim Tae Ri.

These 30 something year olds pull off their teenager roles sooooo well. 🤪 😆

  3. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Packmule3, KGE had a precocious start in K media so it seems that she’d be with an older man.I would have preferred Gong Yoo or Lee Dong Work or both at the same time(lol).

I like her with both of Yumi’s BFs but I know from looking at the webtoon she’ll marry a third guy. I hope he’s nice looking. I’m sad to say good bye to BaBi.And I have to say that the college intern looked older than a college student and was quite beautiful. I did not see her charm and viewed her as manipulative and disingenuous to Yumi. I did not like her. That whole look at me make a mustake-poor little old me was horrible. Knowing Yumi will have a partner later makes me fine with this break up. I never thought BaBi would be the one and I always thought that he was too good to be true.

  4. Hi all! Eps 9 and 10 both gripping in entirely different ways! I watch this show and go to bed around 1am UK time and my head is always spinning.

    Ep 9 SPOILERS Ahead

    Two highlights for me.

    1. The treatment of the Yumi- Ba Bi break up

The way the break up was handled took the viewer, as far into the situation as possible and was wonderfully multi-layered. The story telling was suspenseful as ever.

We don’t know where Yumi was after she – with the help of the Love Cell – assessed what she had learned in her conversation with (I’m so confused) Da Yeun.

Had Ba Bi crossed that final line? Love Cell was working hard to help Yumi adjust and then a sticking point… what would Yumi do about Ba Bi having been ‘swayed’ by another woman?

Then we see Ba Bi arriving at his Jeju Island home and looking around enjoying Yumi’s tree decorations. He goes into the house unaware of the momentous things that have just taken place. He looks for Yumi. No sign of her. The way this section was filmed seemed to me to evoke a reality tv show in one of those shared houses with some of the cameras on ceilings capturing all the action.

When Ba Bi gets into a car to search for Yumi – he is filmed at close quarters, again in the style of a reality tv show or documentary where things are unfolding in the raw. The viewer is at the heart of the action. Nothing is neat or predictable.

When Ba Bi finds Yumi a pause-filled encounter with her follows. We discover more of what had been happening in his inner world. Da Eun’s (manipulative in my book) confession has made a bigger hit to his emotional world than he wanted to admit with a deep crack in the floor of his village.

He is in damage limitation mode now and not reacting fast enough to the emergency he is now in with Yumi.

Yumi’s face crumpling as the weight of this non reassurance hits her (KGE at her best). Ba Bi can’t tell her that he wasn’t swayed by DE.

In Ba Bi’s mind, he is (just about!)handling the situation which has grown up around him with Da Eun. He hasn’t anticipated this level of interrogation and isn’t able to be fully present.

Yumi gets up to leave and Ba Bi’s sense of the present moment returns and he pleads with Yumi. I found him sincere here for all of his selective naivety with the Da Eun scenario. I wanted her to stay at that point.

Another suspense filled moment as Yumi’s Love Cell here was working super hard to make mature adjustments to the situation and to his apology.

Close ups of their hands on the suitcase.

But Love Cell drew a firm boundary. Ba Bi had crossed it. Yumi left and walked into an icy blast of December air.

Ba Bi is in shock but runs out to stop her. We see him gazing at the retreating taxi trying to take on board what has just taken place.
    Yumi sits staring fixedly ahead.

    2. Yumi’s intentional response to the break up

I was also struck by Love Cell’s melt down and Yumi’s much needed visit to her cell village after the break up.

Her tender and appreciative conversation with Love Cell enabled Love Cell to let go and cry before Writer Cell was promoted to Primary Cell.

Yumi wants happiness and not love angst at the expense of her well being.

This felt like a wise and tender move for Yumi at this stage and was an expression of a new maturity.

  5. Wow! This is a great read, @Kate! Thank you.

  6. Thank you @Packmule3 – appreciated!

  7. I’ll repost it on the blog later, so it’s easier to find.

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Kate, I can’t read yet since I’ve no time to watch both episodes of YC2. I’m kind of shaken, is all I can say. 😝

  9. @GB – yes – understood!

  10. @Kate really enjoyed reading your analysis

    A few comments:

–The end of Yumi’s relationship with Ba Bi is a mirror image of/bookend to the end of her relationship with Ji U-Gi (the first of Yumi’s relationships we witnessed, though in retrospect). Specifically, instead of Yumi chasing Ba Bi’s taxi, Ba Bi chases Yumi’s taxi. This shows us how much she has grown: she has become her biggest priority now. She no longer will do anything for love or to stay in love.

    —Her breakups:
    • With U-Gi, Yumi still chased after him, even though he was already with another woman, thus suppressing her pride cell.
    • With Woong, she took a clinical and emotionless approach to the breakup, coolly pushing her breakup card towards him–but only after he said he wanted to break up with her first. This happened after a large gathering of her cells met to discuss the verdict. Her pride cell helped spur the decision. Despite her exterior coolness, there was a lot of internal turmoil then and for days and weeks afterward.
    • The breakup with Ba Bi seems to be the first breakup she completely initiated. It was an in-the-moment, go-with-your-gut decision. Was it out of rage? As her cells gathered to make the breakup judgement, her love cell grew horns and became angrier and angrier. Unfortunately, since her love cell was her primary cell, this created an unsustainable state of being. So her writer cell (second in line) became her prime cell. Yumi then devotes herself to work rather than seeking love–which helps her career and, ultimately, I hope, will help her to be a happier person and to live a more fulfilled life. As far as we can see, she does not go through weeks of angst and self-pity after this breakup, as she has with the others.

–Though (as far as I can recall) her cell village has never broadcast or highlighted it, honesty is one of the things she cherishes most in a relationship. In her second relationship (have we ever seen any traces of her first relationship?), Ji U-Gi deceives her completely by being unfaithful; Woong hides the misery he is going through in his personal and business life and breaks up with her because he is ashamed (pride is his primary cell) and so she won’t have to witness it; Ba Bi goes to great lengths to hide his fleeting crush on the intern–by moving!–and then won’t admit it when Yumi confronts him about it. If you can’t be completely honest with your partner, then what is the point of a partnership?

–Ba Bi could easily have shaken off the intern’s confession, telling her he was flattered, etc. But his cell village experienced a powerful earthquake, which shows that he wasn’t being honest with himself. He seems to be a man swayed by lovely women. And though he didn’t stray in any physical sense, the internal chaos he experienced, to me, shows that he wasn’t fully with Yumi. Part of that, of course, could be the physical distance between them and the loneliness he was feeling in her absence. But, as I said earlier, I think Ba Bi is a serial romantic. It’s hard for him not to be (overly) chivalrous with young and pretty women.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @BethB and @Kate
Great analyses! I was a little thrown by how cool Yumi was over her breakup with Babi. She has grown to care more for herself. At least she had more self-respect, so that she could walk away from a possible betrayal.

It would be nice to see that she can continue on her own, without being in a relationship, to be truly happy.

  12. @BethB,

Agree with @GB – you make rich observations. I particularly like your review of the patterns of Yumi’s break ups and the way you’ve picked up on her departure from Ba Bi being the bookend opposite of her break up with unfaithful Ji U-Gi.

If Ji U-Gi was the original source of the woundedness in her dating relationship world, Yumi being able to heal and restore serenity in the face of something deeply triggering (Ba Bi looking elsewhere for closeness etc… however fleetingly) is growth indeed!

  13. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, @,BethB and @GBThank you for taking a good luck at Yumi’s relationship development. She certainly has come a long way, and like her writing she has found her self worth, not to be defined by man.

Initially I liked her romance with BaBi but as it went on I felt like he was defining the terms. When he met the intern he was somewhat indifferent but overtime became a sucker for her flattery
To my mind she was quite manipulative and knew how to play her cards with BaBi and Yumi. She guilted him into taking her to work and she knew how to play the proximity game(“leaving” strategically). To me she is the worst kind of woman who plays at being innocent but by no means is.She is also aware of her looks and how to use them. She appeals to BaBi:d genitals(to be blunt) and it doesn’t take him long to fall for her. I think he is actually a player but has met his match with the intern

What strikes me is that BaBi and Yumi’s relationship was more among equals, while his relationship with intern is of a manager subordinate that can be viewed as sexual harassment. BaBi should have been more careful
Our intern is not stupid and knows exactly what she’s doing.Babi is in a trap of his own making.

I am so happy that Yumi broke up with him and left him in the lurch
BaBi was trying to have his cake and eat it
Yumi who is an ethical soul did not deserve it. I am so happy that she has shown great personal growth, even though the break up hurts.

I think that her success finding acceptance as a writer, her personal dream had a lot to do with it
We also see that Yumi attracts men.It is her time to be choosey. Good riddance BaBi, bureaucrat and lesser person than Yumi. Waiting for season 3 to see who she finally married and to also see her success as a writer.

  14. I watched the first episode of season 1 and found out they were going to break up so I stopped. I never started season 2 for the same reason. I checked in with this post and its comments and I’m so impressed with what you all were able to glean from the boyfriends and the cells and how she has changed/grown/matured through her experiences. I hope to join in with everyone for season 3 which will give us a happy ending, right?

  15. Old American Lady (OAL)

@birdie007, I cheated and looked at the webtoon
No details of the guy but she is going to get married in season three
I could have read about the guy but I need some fun to look forward to. Also we’ll find out more about her writing career.

  16. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi Yumi lovers, In my family health drama I:m now in the hospital witj acute appendicitis
They treat it with massive doses of antibiotics to reduce inflammation and I’m about 9 weeks laparsscopic surgery. I:m glad it’s happening now because I:lol be there for my husband:d treatment

I just met the Korean respiratory therapist and had my first live discussion of K drama and I got to say annetong hasseo
    My thrill of the day

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear @OAL!! I hope you are not in pain. Is the timing serendipitous in a strange way? I trust your husband is doing well too and that you’re both able to take care of yourselves and each other!!!

More prayers are being offered for you! 🙏 🙏

LOL the thrill of speaking a phrase of Korean to a Korean person. I, too, wanted to try out my Korean. One time I asked a lady whose surname was Choi, if I pronounced it correctly and she was mildly surprised that I knew it was pronounced differently than from how we do it here. It was fun!

  18. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GB, It’s yes like these that a sense of humor helps
I was thril LL rd to speak a great words to Mr Han. He got a kick out of it too so

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Heheheheh! @OAL…. so true. We learn to laugh about it and de-stress a stressful situation.

May you have many opportunities to try out your Korean! 😂

  20. @OAL and @birdie007,

It’s not entirely clear but from everything I have read I THINK we only get these 2 seasons. The writers of the TV show are not sticking strictly to the webtoon plot. Webtoon readers have commented on some key changes to the Season 2 plot to make this happen.

Based on Ep 10 too which we haven’t reviewed together yet – we are in for an exciting ride and finale! I am hopeful of a satisfying ending.

  21. @OAL – Sending more prayers your way! What a development for you in everything you are going through with your husband.

I am glad as you say that you can be there with your husband.

Brilliant that you could discuss K-dramas!

  22. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, Yumi’s Cells2 and Extraordinary Attorney Woo are my go to Dramas. They are both very therapeutic and discussions with BOD helps keep me human. I still hope for a third season of Yumi’s Cells but if the finish it up at season 2 I hope we see her in a successful writing career and married to someone who deserves her. Her three prior boyfriends did not deserve her.I think Yumi is a good soul. I also hope they cast her husband well.
I know that Kim Go Eun has been cast in the Jo role of the Korean version of Little Women. I definitely will watch that.

Our lawyer drama is about a lawyer with autism. This drama is done very well. The depiction of autism is not sensationalized.I like attorney Woo a lot. it is very h heartwarming

  23. @Kate is right – This show was only confirmed for 2 seasons and KGE has already moved on to filming her next project (a Korean remake of Little Women !!).

I was kind of surprised and disappointed to spend so much time with Woong and his cells one again in Episode 10 when we STILL haven’t gotten much insight into Ba Bi’s inner world. I think at this point we’ve even spent more time with Yumi’s editor’s cells than Ba Bi’s! What is the message there- that Ba Bi is superficial? That once the relationship is over Yumi will wonder if she ever even really knew Ba Bi? I’m not sure, but I can only assume Woong is being given so much extra screen time because he will be Yumi’s end game. I don’t dislike Woong, but I think at this point I’d prefer to see Yumi continue to choose herself and be on her own.

  24. @Milktea – yes the lack of information re Ba Bi’s inner world – on an only as needed basis – has been puzzling! I

I did have this theory that there would be a grand reveal – who knows? This may still happen – of parts of Ba Bi we haven’t yet seen. In other words the TV show writers have been keeping some things from us to prevent us guessing where the show is going.

But it may be that, as you say, screen time equals significance.

Am planning to re-watch and then comment on Episode 10 this evening. Hope you’ll be around for further discussion.

  25. @Kate, I was also expecting a grand reveal, possibly in the form of an entire episode dedicated to Babi and his cells. I suppose that could still happen, but I have big doubts about how effective it would be now that many viewers have turned so far against Ba Bi because of the Da Eun situation. At this point, whatever they showed us would have to be truly dazzling.

On top of that, the writers have gone through great lengths to make sure Woong doesn’t just look like an option, but a very attractive option at that! I’ll be a little disappointed if they go down the classic love triangle route because I think these writers are far too clever for that.

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

What Episode 10 shows us is that Control Z is surprisingly very quick on the uptake with regards to other people’s love lives. He is perceptive and intuitive and guesses correctly all the major aspects from just one or two clues. Not only that, he’s a great mover of ‘plot’ in other people’s love lives.

    – He guessed that Yumi had broken up from the deletion of her photos in her SNS.

    – He guesses that Woong was Yumi’s ex-bf simply because she said it would do him no good with Woong to mention her.

    – He could tell that Woong was not over Yumi, from the stash of books in the car.

    – He engineers the inadvertent meeting of Woong and Yumi.

    – He informs Woong that Yumi is single again and practically offers to help Woong (who was was hesitating to ask) help in dating Yumi again.

Control Z, gets practical psychology right and seems to be one great, big, human Love Cell. LOL.

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Episode 10, Woong’s growing awareness.

I was wondering if Woong had been so caught up in making a success of himself that he ever thought why he worked so hard. If Louis had not first made him aware of Yumi’s success as a writer and tried to get him to brag to her that he too was a successful game developer, would Woong have had different thoughts at that interview?

His first inclination when asked about what made him so passionate about his work was to reply: ‘money’ but after being made aware again of his failure and loss of Yumi, he kept adding a question mark to it ‘money?’

He could not admit the truth to himself yet, because liking a woman who had a boyfriend meant that he was a real loser. However the moment Control Z pointed out that Yumi was single and free to date, he could admit that he wanted to try again with her. So true to life, this. It’s natural self-defence (poor Woong’s love cell was so badly scarred!) to pretend to not care, or sometimes to even have the sour grapes attitude, especially when the truth would hurt.

But when love had a chance to succeed and there was hope, he could face the truth that he was not over Yumi.

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I find Control Z such an unusual character (P.O. is a hoot!). He reminds me of some special people (neurodiverse persons?) who do not filter what they think. They may appear rude or socially inept but mean no harm.

Control Z is one of those who are highly intelligent and good at what they are interested in. Control Z is obviously interested in drawing characters and figuring out the relationships of people around him, and helping romance along. LOL.

  29. Old American Lady (OAL)

@(GB) Control Z wasn#t afraid to criti1ue Yumi’-s writingk frustrating her. In the end he helped make her a better writer. She need3e that even though she had come off her break up reinvigorated as a writer. He also was very funny as a fashion critic. I kind of liked her in the Yankee cap with glasses but CZ knew what sells authors.i am enjoying his character. I also liked Yumi and CZ a5 the coffee shop. No ginger cake for me.

CZ definitely is neurodiverse. His pick ups on social matters is atypical but not unheard of. He is definitely a catalyst. I hope his business dealings with Woong don’t prevent him from working with Yumi again.

I liked the end of the rpisode with Yumi pictur3d in the center and with Woong and BaBi on either side of her.I think BaBi has hooked up with DA Eum. Wouldn’t it be nice if DaEum(a manipulative, phoney) hard to worry about BaBi’s feelings for Yumi(even if we know that Yumi has moved on). It would xerve her right. No good will come of a relationship with BaBi and DA Eum.She will break his little fickle heart because she will set her sights on a more powerful, richer man to give her what she wants. And he will run o the day he two timed Yumi. I knew women and girls like DA Eum. They give women Abad name.

  30. @MilkTea — I think PJY was anticipating a backlash when he said he hoped fans would enjoy Ba Bi in 3D!

I have been on Team Ba Bi and was on Team Woong in Season 1 – I like them both for different reasons so am excited that at least we don’t get some unknown character at the end of Season 2.

  31. @GB – yes…interesting re Woong and his lack of reflection! [I was so heartened when we got to the bottom of what was motivating him]. Now his love cell is healed and happy and he can move forward.

As Woong reflected back at one point we got a Woong’s eye view of Ba Bi as approaching love rival/encroacher. This was disconcerting.

@OAL commented on the other thread about the possibility of Woong having his own developmental ark. I really would be happy if that is the direction the show is taking. Especially after the crushing disappointment he and his cells experienced a year back when they discovered Yumi was dating someone and it was ‘too late’ to rekindle the relationship. Just the expressions on his little band of cells…!

I also want that for Ba Bi. He has given a lot to Yumi and played a catalytic role in her life.

  32. @GB and @OAL loving your reflections on Control Z – I must look up neurodiverse!

@OAL – I thought Yumi looked kind of NY cool in her writer gear!

I wasn’t aware that Control Z is the ‘redo’ shortcut! That gives me the shivers when we look at the role ConZ is playing.

  33. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, SPOILER: If they stray from the webtoon, we won’t but if they stay true to it, we will in the form of Yumi’-s new editor who is husband material. If I were on a team about her other BFs, I’d be a team Woong as he is also a creative guy who has gone through tough times. While BaBi is very attractive r active, his love compromises are troubling. He seems to want to have it all and in his heart of hearts knows that Yumi is the superior woman. He does not deserve her. The whole DA Eum thing put it all in perspective. She flattered him, played damsel in distress(very strategically) and used jher looks and youtu at every turn. There was nothing real about her “love” but it was all about her needs. She is the epitome of social climber. So, to me, BaBi was no good for Yumi. I was glad SHE dumped him.

Am curious to see how 5he series ends. I want Yumi to be happy and if that means she’s with a nice guy, hooray. We do know from past episodes that she will marry and I think she will also be a mom.so the only thing we need to know is who will add to her happiness. If it$s a new guy there are several of her past costars who would fit the bill.iif it’s older guys wouldn’t Gong Yoo or Lee Dong Wook make a great cameo. Or we could have Lee MinHo or Jung Hae In or Park Bo Gum. So muchfor fantasy. Although if it’s an idol I would take Jun Ho in a minute.

  34. @OAL – a Woong who has been on a real journey of transformation sounds like a good choice to me too! He can balance her type of creativity with his engineer’s mind -who wouldn’t love someone who sorted out her flat?

Yes, Ba Bi, still not fully conscious of himself, is not a good fit for her at this stage. I wonder if the writers will let him go on a redemptive journey too?

If they are going to introduce another Mr Endgame, I hope they do it soon.

My money is now on Woong as the most likely candidate because I can’t imagine that the writer would want his hopes to be crushed yet again. Also his character is being re-introduced so cleverly with the theme of ‘fate’/’destiny’ being mooted. Is that a clue to us the viewers? I would put money on him.

But who knows? The writers are so clever. I would love to be a fly on the wall in their creative meetings!!

  35. ps Was not a fan either of DE! I have a feeling we were meant to find her, to some measure, cute and hapless … I couldn’t… but I think they tried to make her likeable. In the webtoon account – from what I can gather – she is slightly less ‘foot in mouth’ and less of a disaster crashing into Yumi and Ba Bi’s relationship.

Imagine blurting out ‘was it because of me?’ to your crush’s girlfriend when you learn he is moving home!! Ugh.

  36. Annyeong 🌴

@GB Regarding Con Z, he is one great big human love cell haha even though he irritated the hell out of Yumi in the beginning LOL bringing out the Swear/Profanity cell wahahaha. omg. and to the point that she went for the ginger cake instead just to spite him. i was just thinking if the ginger pie was so bad, why is it on the menu? ConZ cracks me up. he’s kind’a cute. i like his character in HDL.

when ConZ commented that her book was unrealistic because the couple was too honest ~ gave us a picture of what Yumi desires in a relationship so that during her Jeju visit, no matter how her love cell fought for it and Yumi was almost swayed by it, she ended up standing up on her truth to be happy (with or without a man).

@AOL – praying that the antibiotics do their work and for your upcoming surgery. timing indeed. it is thrilling to great a korean with “annyeong hasseyo” and talk about kdramas. my hubby got to tell a korean nurse that me, his wifie, loves Kdramas. that’s about it. haha. i’m too shy to even do the greeting.

Babi’s totally hiding something coz he didn’t even tell Yumi that he was moving. shady!! and he didn’t wanna talk about the reason why. it was definitely not nothing. he underestimated this nothingness.

after the break up, it said 4TH OFFICIAL RELATIONSHIP? i thought this is only the 3rd?

i think it was funny that fashion cell changed to a fashion terrorist after the break up. i can say my fashion cell has turned terrorist during the pandemic… the exam day look. hilarious.

Woong is back! daebak! i love that bragging combo x5 haha. and the gospel of fate preachers! hilarious!

Babi is back as well! waaaaah! omg. the previews doesn’t look good for Babi. hmmm. i don’t think Yumi should take him back. and Woong? is he the end game ??? To be continued. Waaaah

  37. BaBi’s earthquake, his being shaken by Da Eun, should not have been surprising to him. He convinced himself that he was only doing what was expected, helping another human get to and from work, but I doubt he was so naive as to think that wouldn’t be misinterpreted by most people if discovered. His co-workers would suspect an inappropriate office romance: out of line not only because BaBi already had a girlfriend (who he talked about to them), but because of the power imbalance between a Team Leader and a college intern. Not only Yumi, but most girlfriends would think it inappropriate for BaBi to regularly be spending one-on-one time with a young woman in the intimate space of a car. And what inexperienced young woman wouldn’t form wrong ideas from being shown special attention by a young man who’s caught her fancy? The long car rides can be likened to long phone conversations, but more extreme because of physical proximity. What girlfriend wouldn’t be suspicious of the bonding that happens between two people during long telephone conversations, texting, messaging, etc. Emotional affairs can be every bit as damaging as physical affairs.

It was not BaBi’s responsibility to assure Da Eun’s welfare during her commute to and from work: that lay with Da Eun herself, or her parents. Da Eun had already decided the commute was something she could manage by bus, and had started her internship, before BaBi joined that branch as Team Leader. He was more worried that Da Eun and her parents would think him thoughtless, than concerned about the ramifications of his spending so much alone time with Da Eun. All of this would have been avoided if BaBi’s start in Jeju had included a short talk with Da Eun explaining why, despite their being neighbors, driving her to and from work is inappropriate.

@BethB, the difference between when Yumi chased after Ugi’s taxi and BaBi chased after Yumi’s is that BaBi had his car with him. He could’ve hopped into his car, followed Yumi’s taxi to the airport, then tried to talk with her again. But it seems he didn’t, because Yumi boarded a plane and went home to Seoul.

We are reminded by Woong’s memories that BaBi had been hovering around Yumi long before Woong and she broke up. I don’t think BaBi can bear being alone, and he likes playing the white knight. He was positioning himself, I believe consciously, to be the one Yumi turned to in time of need. My suspicions of BaBi’s slyness are confirmed by BaBi keeping secret from Yumi that he’d bumped into Woong at his work, from Woong that he was dating Yumi, and from Yumi the time he started liking her (most likely while she was still with Woong).

Yumi and her Love Cell were right to be cautious about entering a relationship with BaBi. They sensed something was a bit off, but surrendered to BaBi’s direct approach.

Both Woong and Editor-in-Chief Ahn drew the line at becoming relationship disrupters. Despite their feelings for her, they respected Yumi’s choice of partner. BaBi knew Yumi was a couple with Woong, but stayed in her vicinity performing acts of kindness, breaking into her consciousness. He was playing the long game. Da Eun behaved similarly with BaBi, even though she knew he had a girlfriend. Making use of her bumbling neediness, she appealed to BaBi’s readiness to help the weak, using his chivalry to ensnare him.

@GB, Control Z is interesting, I agree. He’s almost the opposite of someone on the autism spectrum: instead of having trouble reading social cues, he’s better than most. I was amused to look up what Control Z does on a computer, since Show makes a point of connecting his nickname with that keyboard function. As someone mentioned above, Control Z is for undo. Go back. Reverse action to the previous step. I see it as no mistake that it is Control Z who reunites Yumi and Woong.

I was a bit surprised to see what happened when Writer Cell became Yumi’s Prime Cell, not because of the rising importance of writing in Yumi’s life, but because of the physical transformation of the cell. It is the back of Yumi’s own Writer Cell we see in the fancy clothing at the end of the opening credits. Because of the different color and style of the clothing, I’d assumed it was someone else’s cell.

I want to commend the sound engineers of Yumi’s Cells 2 for the excellent job they’ve done with the show. When Yumi and BaBi were standing in the cafe, both with hands on the handle of Yumi’s suitcase, in the background is the sound of wind whistling. That was no production oversight: we were being warned that a cold wind was blowing through Yumi’s heart.

  38. In preparation for the two new episodes being released later today, I rewatched these two episodes. I’d meant to comment earlier on Woong’s Sensitivity Cell, wrapped head to toe and pinned into a heavy blanket with raindrop/teardrop pattern on it. The cord decoration on the pin holding the blanket is a love knot. Despite Woong’s Sensitivity trying to protect himself, he might as well be wearing his heart on his sleeve.

  39. I just managed to watch Episode 10.

I am a bit behind than you all, but I am not okay with how Babi lies by omission trying not to reveal things to Yumi. It is not okay. I am glad that Yumi took the initiative to break up with him, when she saw that he couldn’t even answer to her.

At the same time Wung came back, successful and yes he loved Yumi and didn’t hurt her, but they have ended their relationship many years ago.

Yumi is a different person, as Wung is. Just because suppressed feelings are there, it doesn’t mean that you can get back together.

When I am up to date I will post on the current thread.
