  1. Ep 13 was SOOO good. Lots of revelations too. @PM3 your post about cho Chung was *such* great timing as so much was fresh in my mind watching this episode.

We know Naksu’s real name! And that Cho Chung and Jang Gang were very close friends. And confirmed the timeline that the rampage happened soon after Dohwa passed away. Losing his close friend right after the grief of losing his wife (his fault!), having to abandon his son and then likely guilt that his punishment of Cho Chung led to such destruction is likely why he was crying so hard.

Also interesting that Jang Gang left to go in search of Cho Yeong. There must have been something in her chart that inspired him to go in search of her. Why do you think he wanted to seek her out? And why did Master Lee tell Kim Doju that Cho Yeong was dead? Was it Because she was “reborn” as Naksu?

BOD-ers (if that is correct terminology), was it implied that he ran wild because he was punished by Jang Gang? And that cho Chung dabbled in sorcery and potentially AOS independently of Jang Gang? So JG wasn’t the only one doing sorcery?

The more answers we get, the more Qs there are. 🙂 eg Was Master Lee stirring the pot with Uk to tell him Yul likes Naksu and Naksu like Yul as a warning for him to pay attention to what Yul might know? Very well done of him.

We also learned more about how the ice stone works. It can revive even fully petrified souls shifters with its power, and the stone has to be inside their body. This confirms the theory here that MD aka BuYeon has the ice stone inside her and thus essentially is the ice stone.

This was stream of consciousness, will rewatch and write more. Can’t wait to read the rest of your theories in the meantime.

  2. So why does no one in the secret room suggest they check the eunuch for a blue mark???

  3. @Fern My guess is that it’s because the blue mark fades over time. It’s not always there, acting more like a bruise. The Eunuch’s soul was shifted a long time ago, so likely faded. Now he’s just trying to feed off energy to stay alive and not petrify. Or it could be a plot hole 🙂

  4. Yul… I didn’t expect you to be that petty against your best friend.

    And that’s all for now.

  5. Yess.. the plot is moving along nicely and we see that Mu Deok IS Bu Yeon (scars conveniently shown in Episode 13) with the ice stone residing in her emitting the energy that is the Great Soul which explains why Naksu did not petrify.

We are also shown the backstory of Jang Gang’s relationship with Naksu’s dad, Constellation Mage Cho Chung and thanks to Maidservant Kim we are told Naksu’s real name which is Cho Yeong. The memorial scene was quite poignant and the 3 way shot of both Uk and Yul looking into Mu Deok is a set up for the next episode.

One question that keeps popping up in my mind was whether Jang Gang had performed the AOS on his wife and Mage Cho, who then ran wild and had to be finished off. Seems possible in the Daeho universe..

Can’t wait for tonight’s episode! For those who love previews , here’s the snippet courtesy of TVN

  6. Kalimera Everyone,

Here are my thoughts on Episode 13.

First of all, my theory that the Ice Stone “talked” to BuYeon is valid.
Jin Mu remembered that BuYeon was so focused while holding the Artifact that she maybe and deliberately opened the gates of the skies for the Ice Stone to be returned to Heaven.

That’s why he knocked her off the boat. Basically he was the one who attempted to kill her or killed her since that is what he knows.

We saw that Jang Uk called the Crown Prince to come in the rescue with the Yin and Yan Jades and that the Crown Prince started to become suspicious of Jin Mu.

At the same time, the arrival of the Queen to Cheonbugwan gave more information to Park Jin to realize who has the Ice Stone. If Jang Uk and Naksu realized it, then the same applies to Park Jin and Songrim.

As for the Ice Stone, we have BuYeon who is the actual holder of the Stone and one part is in her and the other one is with Shaman who resides in Queen’s body.

Second, I have said before that Master Lee knows more and reveals something only when he wants to and to whom he wishes.

I am glad that he took him to go fishing for the Golden Fish in order to attain Chisu level. Master Lee anticipated that things will turn out of the worse in Uk’s last battle in Songrim.

Their open conversation was honest and deep in meaning, because Master Lee wanted to understand Jang Uk. So a lot were said, but he also warned Uk that Yul knows that MuDeok is Naksu.

I am glad that in this case, Master Lee acts as Deus Ex Machina,

    Or

In order to be more precise and to continue what I was writing in the Archetypical Hero Journey’s from my Theories thread:

Master Lee is the divine creature / God / Goddess who is next to the Hero helping him succeed in his Quest.

Lee’s words also gave us information regarding Mage Cho’s and Naksu’s real name:

Her father was Cho Chung and her name is Cho Yeong. It was a nice touch to see Maidservant Kim doing their memorial service after listening to Master Lee’s advice.

For me, Master Lee is not a simple character. He works as Deux Ex Machina, As a Deity who helps the Hero to fulfill this Quest, but also he is the All Seeing Eye who knows it all.

As for the Jin Matriarch, she is a completely fool and cannot see what is in front of her. She let her “brother” who actually was the perpetrator in BuYeon’s case, to find her again. Her downfall will be fast and things will become awful…

Lastly, It was a nice touch that Jang Uk realized Cho Yeong’s true feelings and told her so. I am not going to call Naksu any longer by that name. I will call her Yeong, since for the past months she is no longer an assassin.

P.S. Yul and the Crown Prince, wait and see what it will happen in battle tonight. I am not that sorry that you will both lose. Being arrogant is not a wise move. Jang Uk has backing up from the Heavens.

  7. Great points and theories, everyone. I have one question: if the queen could retrieve the power of the ice stone from the eunuch and end him, couldn’t she do the same to Bu-Yeon?

@Cleo, the Jin matriarch’s husband also seems to have been soul-shifted. She really is surrounded by evil.

Of course the duel between Uk and Yul has been manipulated by Naksu/Yeong. It’s another of those tests Yul mentioned that could get Uk killed. There is no way that Yul would do it without her permission, even though it is a rather surprising turn. I guess they were bound to fight at some point…

Doesn’t it seem a strange time for Yul to go to the fortress when such cracks are starting to form in Songrim and the other clans?

  8. Kalimera my dear @Fern,

Tonight we are going to see the flashbacks of how Yul became the latest opponent and we get to see two things, based on the previews we have seen so far:

    1. The Crown Prince changed the bet on MuDeok

    2. The Crown Prince was looking for the most powerful opponent in order to take MuDeok away from Uk. And Yul as his cousin came along with a condition, to take MuDeok instead.

    As for your question:

The answer is no. BuYeon is the actual holder of the Ice Stone and the true essense of the stone is in her. The Queen and Jin Mu think they have the Ice Stone, but they have a fragment of its true value.

Hence, BuYeon’s Destiny (I was writing previously) is to return the Ice Stone back to the Heavens.

In the beginning I was thinking he was soul shifted, but there is a chance he took another identity to marry into Jin’s. We shall see what of these is true…

P.S. Let me see what you have written.

  9. I am almost feeling sorry for So Yi getting prepared to impersonate Bu Yeon. I say almost, because she is bringing it all on herself and I feel she will come to a bad end.

  10. @Fern,

    Correction for my P.S.:

Let me read what all of you have written*

  11. One Q: Now that Uk has mastered Chisu, shouldn’t he be able to give Naksu her energy back by now?

  12. I was wondering did So Yi mention Mudeok as someone she knows for Jin Mu to kill? The next episode will have lots of fights 😀

At last, Naksu wants to know what Mudeok was about >thank heavens!< as until now Naksu had zero interest in the body she was in! I wonder who was Mudeok's grandmother was and if MD is BY then how did the grandmother come to be?

Yul was so happy for his friend reaching Chisu and it is pretty clear: he wants to take MD/Naksu to his castle to save her. Even he subscribes to the belief that sorcery is bad, ice stone should be destroyed and that Uk should not end up doing something "bad" for Naksu/MD.

So next week we will have MD being a murder suspect? How come Sir Park was at the murder venue so promptly? MD barely entered the room and registered the murder and he came in! How come previews have a few dialogues that are not there in the actual episodes.

Not so important but a question (nevertheless): How come UK feels jealous and then when he at last meets MD (at the end of the episode), he isn't even sulking/angry with her for not visiting him earlier but actually ends up kissing her (despite his doubts about who she likes!) and later asks her if she was making a move on him?

I was expecting something big to happen today but the episode flew past and I enjoyed CP+MD as well as MD+SY interactions. Actually, in episode 13 and 14, Yul got a soft corner in my heart. He has always been a nice and caring friend. He really observes Uk.

  13. Oh and Master Lee is a soul shifter 😀

He has occupied the body of someone young… at least that was the reveal of episode 14!

Is he the great mage himself? Is he JG? Is he really just helping UK to satisfy his academic curiosity?

  14. Episode 14,

Finally the action before the battle begins.

So, the Jin father / soul shifter took DNA sample from Jin Cho-Yeon to implant it into So-i in order to pass as BuYeon. What a clever idea. Not really. (sic)

They are killing everyone who knew So-I and Park Jin is suspicious of MuDeok. He is so stupid at times. I do hope he will understand that is a diverse move from Jin Mu and his scheme!

I am glad that Master Lee is making grandiose moves, revealing that he is a soul shifter himself and he knows how to find other soul shifters. He most likely mastered Hwansu and he was able to do that.

So, things will be out and about in the next two episodes.

P.S. If that man his face we didn’t see in the preview of Episode 15 is truly Jang Kang, I am curious to see what part he will play in the chaos he created in the first place. I do hope he won’t do anything to Jang Uk or Yeong / BuYeon / MuDeok.

  15. Episode 14. How can Master Lee be a soul shifter in the body of a 30-something year old if he looks the same as he did decades ago when Park Jin was a toddler and when Seo Yeom was young? Does being a soul-shifter mean that the body you shift into doesn’t age? I don’t get it.

I liked that the CP let Mu Deok scold the gossiping mages whilst showing that she is under his protection. He hasn’t reneged on that.

How disgusting is that ‘father’ pulling a wriggling bit of ? from Cho-Yeon’s neck?

  16. @no one
When UK was talking to Heo Yeom’s granddaughter(can’t remember her name), he realized Mudeok had purposely kept him from meeting the granddaughter when she came visiting. He figured she was jealous & I guess that made him feel braver trying to kiss Mudeok

  17. Kalimera and have a nice month everyone!

Ella posted a new FMV about our favorite Jang Uk + Cho Yeong couple… 🙂

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arHU_8ov4bA

    Enjoy!

  18. Kalimera and efcharisto poli. 😍

  19. Kalimera my dear @Fern,

    Parakalo!

  20. Hello everyone, so many interesting points from all of you!

When the Crown Prince announced that Yul was the final contender in the battle, Jang Uk and Mudeok changed their minds on winning (not because they can’t) but because they were both close to Yul. They have already won anyway and have gained more than the humiliation from losing in the previous 9 battles. Uk was able to train through those fights, became stronger and even reached Chisu level.

When Yul agreed to the Crown Prince to be Jang Uk’s final opponent, he thought that it was one perfect opportunity to at least physically separate Jang Uk and Mudeok. The Crown Prince have the same thought when he decided that Mudeok will be the price instead of the gold toads. Despite Jang Uk’s defeat, there seems to be an internal agreement among Dangu, Yul and Jang Uk, to let the CP think that Mudeok will be serving a new master. Yul has another plan otherwise.

I was smiling on the part where Master Heo and Jang Uk naughty gazes as they were teasing Park Jin regarding Maidservant Kim and Master Lee. They succeeded very well.

  21. I was thinking…

Hemp Teacher Lee said to the Royal Court that he is a soul shifter himself and his actual body has turned to ashes long time ago. His soul is above 100 years old.

Since Lee is revealing things when he wants to, as I have said before and not everything he knows, here is the bomb:

Is he really Master Seo’s last pupil or is he really Master Seo himself using Lee’s identity as a cover up?

Since both Heo Seo and Park Jin remember him just like that, how long is he using this body if he is still biologically 40 years old? @Fern, I agree with you in this question. We need some answers.

I am leaving this here for pondering.

  22. Something I have wondered about this drama: in the training centre for mages there are only men. So is it forbidden for the women to learn the fighting aspects of the powers? Clearly many of the women central to the story have had some training. If the women who are mages don’t have their own training ground can they only learn at home or privately? I realise that Naksu/Yeong seems to have been trained to a very high level by Jin Mu. Cho Yeon seems to have been trained at some level as well and her sister Bu Yeon must have had training as well as her natural gifts. Did Uk’s mother have some training, too?

Whose soul was switched into the baby Bu Yeon? (Who died at about the time the baby was born?) If the baby was physically unable to survive, why didn’t she petrify immediately if a strong soul went into her body?

  23. My dear @Fern,

Regarding your last question, read @Packmule’s answer to @SnowFlower. In that thread, she is talking about BuYeon’s soul and birth. <3

  24. Thank you, @Cleopatra. I will return to read that again.

  25. You are welcome @Fern!

As for what you have written before, only the Jin family has daughters who have done a training as Mages. Cho Yeong is an exception. She taught herself, Jin Mu didn’t help her at all. She left her by herself in that habitat and her determination to avenge her family made her to become the assassin Naksu.

I don’t think that Do-Hwa was a mage, she could be a Healer though like Heo Yeom’s granddaughter Heo Yun-Ok.

  26. So I have been thinking about this:

If one is an ordinary human in Daeho then can they not train to become mages? What is the criteria for one to get their gates of energy opened?

Why can MD not train her body while she is waiting for energy to be channelised into her?

Oh and one of her vices is that she can’t control her temper or tongue! She lost it and ended up in the magic room; now she let her tongue loose and Park Jin is on her!

@Feyi maybe. But shouldn’t he be a little (just a little) thing with her as she didn’t visit him while he was sick instead he saw her enjoying with birds and Yul. In that scene he is actually pacifying her and surprisingly patient. Maybe he is too happy to know that she made a “move”!

    Happy August to everyone 🙂

  27. @NoOne, thanks for putting your queries into words. Yes, how does one get enrolled into Songrim to train as a mage? Does it have to go by family lines? It seems like a fraternal organisation and profession with few exceptions.

@Cleopatra, Naksu/Yeong must have had some training. She couldn’t have understood the terminology or procedures to get to the levels otherwise. Teacher Lee can see that she knows about the golden fish and other things. I don’t think she was alone in the wilderness from the earliest days after Jin Mu took her because she was too young. It doesn’t make sense. It could be possible that she got some information from someone outside of Jin Mu’s sphere of influence.

I feel that Jin Mu and Park Jin are both closing in on Naksu/Yeong’s identity. It seemed to me that the murderer of the servant broker was still hidden in the room at the inn. I wonder if Park Jin and Jin Mu will both try to seize Naksu/Yeong and if so, who would she end up with?

  28. @Fern,

Based on what Jin Mu said to his second in command two episodes ago, he didn’t train her. He just left her there, so my guess is that Gil-Ju did.

At the same time, we can see that there are a lot of books regarding several fight techniques. Whether that is inside Songrim, or Jang Kang’s room, books are everywhere.

One reasonable explanation is that Jin Mu was sending her books to have her occupied and she was doing physical battles with Gil Ju when he was visiting her.

Regarding the servant broker and everyone like the thugs for are knowing and looking for So-I, Jin Mu put assassins to kill them.

Park Jin as the leader of Songrim is suspicious of MuDeok because he thinks that she is covering her tracks. When that is not the case.

Jang Uk and Cho Yeong will understand that the killings are happening because they are covering the tracks of So-I. Yeong as the primary soul doesn’t remember So-I, but BuYeon can easily understand her because as the servant broker said:
MuDeok used to be blind, but knew exactly who was in front of her. She also knew if there is going to rain or snow.

    Why is that?

Because BuYeon can sense the energies around her and every body has a different vibration. She couldn’t see the outer world as it is, but her eyes had a sonar like function, where she could see the energies as they are. That’s why she knew who was in front of her.

We knew that So-I is a thief. I didn’t expect to be that immoral and target even poor people. She even stole MuDeok’s place in Sari Village and they had a huge debt. That’s why So-I took her blind fold with the Jin emblem on it.

Jin Mu was the last one who was with BuYeon, most likely he will realize it sooner than Park Jin. The thing is that he will believe that she is a soul shifter or that she has amnesia? So far, Jin Mu believes that Naksu is dead.

And…Jang Kang hasn’t come to the mix yet…

  29. Here are my theories (read: speculations/guesses) based on the episodes so far:

    1. Bu Yeon (aka MD) will die at the end of episode 20. She will sacrifice herself to destroy the ice stone once and for all, to complete what she tried to do as a child but was stopped by Jin Mu when he rocked the boat and knocked her in the lake.

    2. Given that there are only 6 eps left, I’m thinking the next 6 episodes will be about getting to know more about Bu Yeon and her life as MD. Then this “chapter” of the show will go on to expose Jin Mu, So-I and Shaman Choi and that will be the big battle. Likely Choi will be killed and her body returned. And somewhere in this battle, BuYeon will die too and in the process save others, likely Uk. And before she sacrifices herself, she will revive Naksu/Yeong’s body so her soul will return. That will fulfill Jung So Min’s contract for AOS and the character of Naksu/Yeong will continue with the other actress (whose name I’m forgetting).

    3. Then eps 21-30 will be Uk and Naksu/Yeong getting to know each other in their true forms and fulfilling their ultimate destiny (King’s star + whatever was seen in Yeong’s birth chart). Only Q this leaves me is whether Naksu faces any kind of justice or retribution for the murders she committed.

Also, I’m thinking Master Lee is not a multi-time soul shifter…or not even one at all. He was recognized by many, even Heom who knew him in that body when they were young lads. It doesn’t seem like a recent switch.

There’s a small chance he is the original soul of the grand master, but he’s been in that body for ages now. He likely exaggerated to shake up Shaman Choi.

  30. @Cleopatra and @Fern

Sorry jumping into this discussion but had to add:

Jin Mu at some point in the first few episodes said that Naksu was Gil Ju’s closest rival. In my brain it implied that Naksu and Gil Ju had both been trained in the same space/school.

Then in the episode where we get to know Naksu’s story in the narration between Park, Lee and Mu: Mu tells his new swordsman that he had left Naksu in the mountains and he did just enough to let her survive, implying that he did do something but bare minimal (I would read that as child abuse!). But she was determined and grew up to be really powerful. He doesn’t really say who taught her.

Then let us not forget Naksu knows what she does about AoS from Jin Mu school of thought because she uses the soul ejector (or the shiny ball) for soul swapping/shifting.
As I think I have pointed out somewhere else no one seems to be big on books or researching about spells/AoS. Of the lot, Jang Uk is the only one who has read a lot (he read about Tansu, he had read most books prescribed by Park’s school of magic).

  31. @MrsRJH1
I feel the same way with regard to the trajectory of the story 🙂
Only exception would be that one of the bad people will not be revealed and will go onto becoming the ultimate villain for season 2.

BY has to die as the heroine is not there in season 2. I want to see how would they resurrect a body that was destroyed!! So-i will harm MD. I would have liked to see a nice MD+UK against the world Fight sequence but my guess is that UK+Naksu will fight against the world a lot in season 2 while actress playing MD may not have signed up for fight sequences!

Interestingly, latest press release said that this murder will unravel MD’s past and bring to light Naksu’s identity.

Oh and I think we have a date coming up next weekend 🙂

  32. Just wanted to add to everyone here that I’m guessing there’s a plot hole over Naksu’s training. As much as we know, she has neither seen Jin Mu nor Gil Ju before becoming Mu Deok. She saw both of them when she planned to return to Danghyangok. Yes, obviously not seeing them doesn’t nean they couldn’t train together. JM’s statements sound contradictory but I guess it was him training Naksu because he once said she was his pupil. I guess doesn’t pay as much importance to it and we’ll never find put how Naksu trained to reach Chisu that too at a very young age(it took 10 years after Ryusu for Pakr Jin, 13 for Master Lee and Naksu is probably 5 to 6 years older than Uk so at 25 she has already mastered Chisu). I don’t think she is entirely self taught. If anything, you need to duel people to strengthen yourself more.

Plus regarding Master Lee Cheol, I don’t think he is Seo gyeong because there is Jin Seol Ran. Master Lee is charmed by Maidservant Kim, and Master Seo Gyeong loves Jin Seol Ran. Yes he may know a lot about Seo gyeong because he has heard everything first hand. But I really don’t think he’s the OG Master.

  33. Is Master Lee really a soul-shifter? I was under the impression he said that in order the flush the soul shifter(s) in the palace, not because he really is one himself. But I could be wrong. He could be Master Seo, but then why is interested by Maidservant Kim?

  34. @Snow Flower, I don’t believe it either. That’s why I said it didn’t make sense. His agelessness makes him different in some way. @Cleo thinks he’s deity-like. But I agree about Maidservant Kim. – Unless he’s putting that on to bring Park Jin and MS Kim together. I suppose even demi-gods can fall in love with humans.

Speaking of humans, that parasitic looking thing that Father Jin pulled out of Cho-yeon’s neck is bothering me and I don’t know why. It seemed incorrect somehow. @Cleopatra described it as DNA. I could accept it if he gathered a drop of blood and made it by sorcery or something. As it is, it makes me wonder if it were either planted inside of her earlier; whether all of these ‘human’ characters have something similar; whether only the Jin family carries it?

Strange tangent: I wonder if Cho Yeon is not really who we think she is and that is why her mother doesn’t consider her at all as a potential successor? Is Cho Yeon sort of a parallel to Uk and Jang Kang in that she is part Jin and her mother is hiding a secret of her birth?

  35. I think possibly the needle on the ornament has some spell to capture the live properties of (Jin) blood to be transfused/transferred to So-i later, but the CGI made it into a gross looking parasitic thingy instead.

I think Matriarch Jin is just hung up on her golden child – having spent 13 months in the womb, being resuscitated with the Ice Stone, being blind but possessing power to sense energy – she can’t let go of her special child. In comparison, Cho-yeon is just normal. Cho-yeon can open the door to the cave too, which proves her genealogy as a Jin, so it doesn’t matter who her father is, just who her mother is.

I don’t think that Master Lee is a soul shifter. If he really were one, he’d have done it via Hwansu, so he won’t suffer the effects of petrification.

  36. Dear @L, that is a good idea about the spell on the needle. I need to be able to think of these characters as humans like us in order to relate to the drama.

I thought about it and Cho-yeon must indeed be her daughter. I really dislike the way her existence is being denied by her mother. If the theories put out in this blog are correct, she will end up being the heir in the end and she will be less prepared than she should have been.

About Master Lee: it’s less about him being a soul-shifter than him being ageless that seemed odd. The mages were speculating about it as well.

  37. So these are rumours but I had to share them 😀

Season 2 delves into Yul’s background and his uncle is a powerful mage (red sleeve actor bagged in for this)

Cho-yeon will die because people keep parallel her and DG with some couple in Moon Lovers. >I don’t think it is needed but who knows, creators may create the need<

    Happy Wednesday 🙂

  38. @NoOne,

Unless these rumors came from the mouth of a production team member, these rumors are started by fangirls who a) possess wild imaginations and b) don’t understand the plot as it is.

🙂 I don’t even discuss previews because they’re speculative and create needless angst, so why should I bother with somebody else’s groundless rumors?

I can easily start a rumor and say that Season 2 delves into Uk’s destruction of Daeho, and creation of a new world order powered by science and technology, rather than silly magic and shamanism.

MuDeok will die because I can draw parallels between her and Cathy Earnshaw from “Wuthering Heights.” Not to mention Charlotte from “Charlotte’s Web.”

    😒

  39. Kalimera Everyone,

@Noone, thank you for the tip. I wasn’t remembering that detail, so I assumed that Gil Gu was training her and said so above.

    @SnowFlower and @Fern,

Master Lee said that he is a soul shifter, that his actual body has been burned up to ashes and his now body is biologically in his 30s-40s. His soul is above 100 years old.

He also said to the King that he can understand which ones are soul shifters. He did all that in order to provoke the Queen that has the Ice Stone in her possession.

Even if he is a soul shifter he didn’t use the Ice Stone or the Soul ejector. He did that by reaching Hwansu level.

I have written above that this revelation actually makes you wonder. Is he really Master Lee the last pupil of Master Seo?
    Or
Is he Master Seo who uses Master Lee’s identity for his own purpose?

If we take that he is Master Lee then, he is following Master Seo’s orders.
He knows everything and he is looking for those who are using sorcery and trying to create havoc in the world.

The question is why is he came forth this specific time? My guess is that now everyone who should be there, are finally present in AoS’ current timeline.

If we take the possibility that he is Master Seo and he is using Master Lee’s identity, then he is also looking for Jin Seol Ran. Most likely her reincarnation. If Jin BuYeon is the Ice Stone, then he is looking for her.

We know that there are parallels between Master Seo and Jin Seol Ran to Jang Uk and Cho Yeong.

Jang Uk has the same King’s Star as Master Seo and we don’t know yet what makes unique Jin Seol Ran and Cho Yeong. Because Jang Uk is in love with Yeong and not BuYeon. I am not going to bring in the mix the Avatar MuDeok that both are using at the moment

We do know that Jin Seol Ran was the one who initiated the Rain Ritual and the Ice Stone came down from Heavens. I believe and I have written before that Jin BuYeon will return back to Heavens the Ice Stone. That is her Destiny.

So, if Jin BuYeon and Cho Yeong also have a connection before the AoS, it remains to be revealed.

I continue to believe what I have written above about Master Lee’s character in Aos.

For me, Master Lee is not a simple character. He works as Deux Ex Machina. As a Deity who helps the Hero to fulfill this Quest, but also he is the All Seeing Eye who knows it all.

Let us see what he will do next in Episode 15.

  40. I would like your attention please:

Next weekend we won’t be seeing new episodes 👇

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1539300wpp/alchemy-of-souls-to-go-on-1-week-hiatus-next-week

  41. Good afternoon, @Cleopatra. Thank you very much for this update.

  42. Isn’t this giving you Hospital Playlist vibes? 🤦‍♀️ Screenwriters tweaking the story for plot holes and inconsistencies, and viewers getting retconned with last minute bit of info?

  43. @Packmule3,

    I do hope they won’t mess it…*sighs*

  44. You are welcome @Fern!

  45. There were plot holes, so perhaps they can fix them well so the show can continue in a good way without changing the storyline to cater to certain viewers’ unrealistic wishes.

I feel conflicted because this is the first time I’ve fully watched a Hong Sisters’ drama. There are aspects of the cinematography that I like very much, the sets are meticulously put together, the acting is good quality with some pleasant surprises (CP actor for one). Some parts of the story line I love but others don’t seem to fit in well with the overall theme, or they are directed in a way to appeal to school kids.

  46. @Fern,

The Hong Sisters have a track record when it comes to soul-shifting in their dramas. I wrote about it in “On the Specter of…” which I’ll open to public view when the series is done. I wrote it to get my trepidations off my chest.

Yes, I’m conflicted about this drama because it’s a threesome, now a foursome: Uk and Naksu/MuDeok/Buyeon

I’ll just think of it as Uk and the fifty shades…errr…four shades of Naksu.

    Naksu as long-lost BuYeon
    Naksu in MuDeok’s body
Naksu as the grown-up Cho Yeong
    Naksu as the assassin mage

    Ugh!

By the way, of all names to give Naksu! Isn’t the second Jin daughter named Jin ChoYEON? Couldn’t the Hong sisters pick a name other the Cho YEONG for Naksu?

To me, the only fans who don’t see the inherent emotional quagmire of this relationship ARE school-aged kids.

People often say that love is about seeing the beauty within, being connected to the soul, and disregarding the outer shell. In that case then, we shouldn’t have any problems seeing the other actress return as the real Naksu. After all, it’s Naksu that Uk is in love with. Not BuYeon. Not MuDeok. The actress Jung So-min is just the vessel of the character Naksu. She and the other actress Go Yoon Jung, are interchangeable. 😜

  47. @Cleopatra Thank you for sharing, I didn’t know and I don’t like it 😀
I just want to binge watch now and get done with it! I am scared that Hong Sisters will somehow mess it up or keep me hanging while by the time season 2 comes, I will not care >which is not bad but at this point I am invested so… I don’t know! I guess it is one of the quirks of being a part of the arbitrary audience<

    @Packmule3
I read the news here: https://meaww.com/will-alchemy-of-souls-2-new-cast-do-sangwoo-seo-yul-rumor-choyeon-death-kdrama-reaction
Nope, no production team person is quoted.

    Happy Thursday 🙂

  48. it should be, I read the rumours (and not news) here: link

    *Correction comment 🙂

  49. Sorry, One more thought:

Interesting, they are taking a break at the mid-point if one considers that AoS is of 30 episodes. Will that mean that I get to see season two in September (2 months in from the start of production)?

That was a wish and not a rumour 😀

Then again, if they will make it better and need more time, maybe I should just drop the series right now or learn to be more patient.

    Naksu’s shades are troublesome!
I agree about Cho Yeong’s name, it is confusing. When I first read Cleopatra’s post where she mentioned Uk and Cho Yeong (I was like when did this happen and then it clicked, we are talking about Naksu/MD). Anyway, am looking forward to Saturday.

  50. Most of the article is trash, @NoOne.

As I expected, the writer of the article was quoting liberally from FANS’ hysteria… on Twitter, of all places! 🤦‍♀️ The writer couldn’t have done much worse had she gotten her sources from TikTok.

The only “news” is the addition of a new cast who’s “reported” to join Season 2 as Yul’s uncle. But it was the FANS (the idol’s fangirls??) who speculated that “sequel will be delving into his family and past.”

    The actual text:

“And now, it has been reported that actor Do Sang-woo has joined part 2 as Yul’s uncle. With Minhyun of NU’EST fame playing the second male lead as the mysterious but kind-hearted Seo Yul, fans are excited that the sequel will be delving into his family and past.”

With only 10 episodes slated for Season 2 do we really need to know about a secondary character’s family background? Most likely he’s another villain from the Seoho Fortress to serve as counterweight to Master Lee/Park Jin/Jang Gang (if he returns) trifecta.

I only trust reputable sources of kdrama news like soompi (the main site, not the forums). Soompi reports just the news and doesn’t dilute or dumb it down with fandoms’ theories posing as news.

  51. Naver covered that story too @noone. They were also the ones that broke the news about Jung So Min not returning in S2 (which they again mentioned here.) I used Google Translate to read it: https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/now/article/052/0001771588

  52. You are welcome @NoOne. 🙂

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes, @MrsRJH1, a friend just mentioned to me that Season 2 may have a different FL. I’m not watching this show and didn’t follow the news about Alchemy, but I looked this up and found these… Soompi mentioned it on July 12!! The other is conjectural from IndiaToday.

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1535355wpp/alchemy-of-souls-responds-to-reports-of-the-female-lead-changing-in-part-2

    https://www.indiatoday.in/binge-watch/story/will-go-yoon-jung-replace-jung-so-min-as-the-female-lead-in-alchemy-of-souls-2-1975025-2022-07-13#:~:text=HIGHLIGHTS,female%20lead%20in%20Season%202

  54. Yup, thanks @GB. I had seen that then too.

I am really curious if the writers will stick to the original storyline they had written – especially if we think in original casting, there was another more junior actress casted before Jung So Min so the original Naksu actress was the more senior actress- or if they will now pause and edit for “fan service” since the show has caught on and so many people love JSM.

As Packmule pointed out, it feels a bit reminiscent of HP2. I hope the writers stick to the overall story first, vs any fan pandering about which actress. I would miss JSM in S2 too, but it won’t make sense for the story to have Uk with anyone else but Naksu. She is who he loves.
