Whatcha Cooking for Meatless Friday, Mar 3?

I accidentally ate sausage links this morning so I’ll find another way to join my fellow Catholics in observing a Friday penance. Mea culpa.

(@Growing_Beautifully, prayers for you and the retreatants.)

For those who have managed to remember meatless Friday, what are you cooking?

  1. Ha! I’m glad I’m not the only one will need to do penance today.

I went to mass this morning, did stations of the cross and Sacred Heart Prayer. I got to the car, I realised I needed petrol so I went to Costco. Hubby called in time to say buy the roasted chestnuts. I go in, walk around, then saw the beef bulgogi jerky for free tasting. I took the smallest piece but as soon as I ate it I thought what the? It’s Friday!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Anyway, I cooked mussels in butter today. That was it.

@packmule3, so sad to learn you had an unconscious lapse. My childhood friends had very strict dietary limits. My Italian friends, whose lunch food I envied ate these great potato and egg sandwiches in great Italian bread during Lent. During the sixties there were strange recipes like tuna noodle casserole and various aspics(yuck). Now there are wonderful vegetarian, pescatarian and vegan recipes. Think of chuck peas like falafel withbl tahini. Also ratatouille in crepes. Tofu…so many great choices to keep the faith. I am hoping you all have a blessed Lenten season.

On a different religious note, in a very short time I”ll be observing Passover where we will say no to bread and all things leavened. It is also difficult to do- more forbidden foods than you can imagine. So I feel for you.

  3. 😂 @agdr04, so you and me both had a mental lapse.

The silver lining here is that a) I can remind my hubby who’s almost half a day behind me that it’s Friday tomorrow for him, and b) I had my assistant call the airlines and request for vegetarian meal on my flight next Friday.

I did better for lunch. I had salad with avocado, chickpea, feta cheese and smoked salmon. The salad dressing was dill honey mustard.

I hope to remember to skip the meat at dinner this morning.

  4. What a big mental lapse for me especially after mass. My youngest said to me, ‘Mother!’. 😂

But you’re already thinking ahead for next Friday, so that’s nice. I think I’ll just have cucumber and some dip for dinner. You’re lunch is yummy.

I’ll comment on the what are we watching this March thread later. Just always busy. 😃

  5. When’s Passover this year, OAL? Around first week of April, right?

Feel free to tell us more about your religious traditions and customs. I like hearing the food rituals and symbolisms.

  6. Okay, @agdr03. No pressure.

It’s back to work for me now. 🙂

  7. Ok Chingu Queen. Laters! 👋🏻

Thank you @pkml3 for joining in our prayer for the retreat! I realise how much I’ve been indulging myself when I’m forever thinking of food/snacks just when I decided to do a little fast. 😬 🤤 🙄 🤭

  9. I was wondering why your March 2 post mentioned Friday, but it looks like you are in a different time zone. Your lunch sounds tasty and I hope that your airplane meal is as well. You will have an extended Friday from the sound of it. Penance in itself.

My un-religious family is having the rest of the chili con carne that I made yesterday. (How is it always better on day 2?) I’ll have some veg and quesadillas. If there’s any left-over chili, I can have it for lunch on Saturday. For lunch I may have some miso soup.

  10. Packmule, how can I access the protected posts on ur site? I m starting Alchemy of souls soon and some of the posts are protected.

  11. I am having refried beans with rice, topped with salsa. I also made salad with cabbage, cucumbers, and arugula.
