The thread is open, @GB.
I hope the two will finally put their heads together and realize that they’re up against Go Minsook and her older brother.
Let’s enjoy the show!

Thanks @pkml3.
What an irony that the Go family mother is a doctor (I trust she saves lives rather than takes them) who rather condones her children’s fetish for rape and murder.
EPISODE 5
It gets twisty and unexpected now, but I’m glad our main leads are communicating.
I have to rewatch to catch what that ending was about. But as HJ says, there’s been misjudgment, therefore we can start to expect more surprising, unpredictable stuff.
@GB,
You know I tend to confuse Asian faces. Was the guy with the blue hat supposed to be YY’s dad — or his evil twin? I got confused because the guy cleaned up nicely, and he had a confident air about him that’s lacking in YY’s dad/Baek HeeSub.
And was he tossing a couple ring in the air? If it was, what’s his real relationship with the intern/teacher?
The story gets curiouser and curioser.
@pkml3
The guy in the blue hat/cap looked like Baek Hee Sub.
Show had us notice the ring (dark coloured wooden ring?) that he tossed and caught. We were also shown that a similar ring was worn by the Student Teacher Lee Joo Young on her left index finger.
Various explanations:
1)Might have been a couple ring with Lee Joo Young having 1 ring and Hee Sub having the other.
2)Might have been just a similar ring and we are seeing a red herring.
3)If the ring belonged to Lee Joo Young, then how did Hee Sub get it? We are assuming that Lee Joo Young is still alive at this stage,so it was not taken off her dead finger.
I looked at the reported ‘view’ of Lee Joo Young’s corpse. We are not shown her left hand so we do not know if she was found dead with the ring on or not.
BTW at the scene of the crime, two policemen hold back two individuals. One of the individuals looked like Go Min Soo. It flashed by quite fast and I had to slow down the show to see it.
The Red Roses
I was wondering if it was Valentine’s day. Did they state the date as 14 Feb 1987? Was that why the guys were getting flowers for their crushes?
Yoo Bum Ryong had 3 red roses…. hmmm a 3-timing guy? Not satisfied with 1 girl he was prepared to be sweet to 2 others as well?
First rose – went to Hee Sub who gave it to Soon Ae. She rejected it, so it ended up back with Hee Sub. We last see it as he sits sorrowfully on the stairs (outside the Bong Bong Tea House?) looking at it. Wonder what he did with it.
Second rose – Bum Ryong likely gave it to Soon Ae. We see it in her school bag but although she claimed that Bum Ryong was a man she was seeing, she didn’t look particularly as if she cherished the rose at all. She stuffed it further into her bag without care. Perhaps she really does not like flowers?
Third rose – We are led to believe that this one went to Lee Joo Young because Bum Ryong looked after her with a smile of interest (a too interested look) when Hee Sub asked him who was getting it. We also see a red rose on LJY’s table at home, beside which is a strip of paper with a warning message: “There is someone who is watching you.”
Beside this is a cigarette packet and cigarette butts and a half smoked cigarette in an ash tray. One assumes LJY smokes, especially now that she’s nervous, and has matches somewhere. It is not certain if the giver of the rose also gave her the warning message or not.
Lee Joo Young was on the phone with someone (likely the writer of the warning message), saying she was so scared. She has the dark ring on her left index finger. We hear her one-sided conversation: “How could I report this? I cannot get involved with the police. I don’t think I can stay here for long. … Yes…Who on earth knows about me?…Okay.” She hangs up.
In terms of the timeline, it looked like the red roses were handed out earlier. The phone call of LJY took place after she received the rose. She reports her fear over the phone after the first time she ‘disappeared’ ie was chased and hid. HJ had followed her home. So this would have been the next evening when she received the warning message.
This means that she had someone she could trust, and he would have been in the same town because he knew she was being watched, and that she believed she was being chased (by someone other than the police?)
If the giver of the rose was not Bum Ryong or Hee Sub, and if Go Min Soo did not kill her, there is a 4th unknown suspicious character – the one on the phone – who might have killed LJY.
SPOILER EPISODE 5
@pkml3, I forgot to add that Episode 5 has also left us an Epilogue. YY’s mum in 2021 at the riverside, was backing away in fear from someone she knew.
What bothers me about that scene was that her shoes were nice and dry looking on the rocks with the note to YY, however the Epilogue has her walking backwards into the water and we see the same shoes that she’s wearing, getting wet.
If people who commit suicide remove their shoes first, those shoes should not be wet or damp. She was after all found dead within hours of her ‘suicide’. Plothole or info on shoes not yet given to us?
Ad Hoc Thoughts on EPISODE 6
MINOR SPOILERS
Super interesting. Variables keep being added, hence now the situation surrounding the murders become unknown/unpredictable.
I’m glad HJ gets to see that his tunnel vision and extreme efforts to save 1 life could lead to severe repercussions. GMS and her brother mentioned the danger of just focussing narrowly on 1 thing. It was a forewarning of sorts and now comes to pass.
How many other repercussions might have developed… no one knows. The ripple effect could go far and wide.
It’s so in keeping with what their normal jobs are that YY goes about investigating based on what she has seen in the written word, while HJ does investigative ‘reporting’ by trying to be on the scene of events, to witness them himself. This episodes demonstrates that it’s when they pool their findings that they get a fuller picture.
It would be nice if these two could agree to work together. After HJ’s peeved retorts that they are not close enough to share info (or rather YY shares but he doesn’t) followed later by his apology, I trust that they’ll be more like friends and collaborators rather than acquaintances who are forced to be together, while trying to stay out of each other’s way. Currently, at least they worry about each other when one of them disappears for too long.

This show is crazy, but i’m hooked.
omg, repercussions indeed. instead of other lives in danger, i thought that the intern teacher would somehow get killed anyway. like i’m watching that “final destination” movie. anyhoo, LJY’s police report is now blank. eeek! oh no!
HJ is so mad that he didn’t even want to get his burns treated. so, is it the uncle then??? curiouser and curiouser indeed. so the mom knows who the killer is. they all know it seems. or did the killer disappear/dead now come to life? i really thought the dad has a twin. waaah. it’s just the uncle. hmm.
@gb yes i like that they care about each other to get mad about it. so funny. it was also funny to see the 3 of them fit in that closet. haha. 4 accomplices to rescue LJY.
interesting that YY’s mom felt that HS sees her – her inner self. so makes it sadder that their marital relationship did not turn out well. people do change from courtship to marriage. or am i just being romantic?
i think i understand now why there’s no extra room for YY in HJ’s house – coz he used the upper room as his office. yes, i can’t wait to see them work together and see YY in that office.
