1. The dinner date
I appreciate DoHa’s efforts in dining out in a very public place. He was so anxious thinking that people were paying attention to him. SolHee had to reassure him that people were just going about their usual business.
From Episode 3:
SH: You know, people don’t care about other people as much as you think they do. Everyone is just focused on their own lives. I don’t know why you do that, but that’s how it is.
2. SolHee likes pretty hands.
I thought this was ominous.
SH: Wow. So pretty.
DH: Excuse me?
SH: The shrimp.
DH: No. Kim Doha-ssi’s hands.
It figures. She was mesmerized when he peeled the apple skin. Last episode, she grabbed his hands when he was about to pick up the broken pieces of the plate. She was concerned that he’d injure his hand since he was a pianist. Then, this time again she was fascinated when he peeled the shrimp for her.
But the problem is what if his hands were bloodstained becaue he killed EunJi?
Also, her ex-boyfriend, Gangmin injured his hand while doing an illegal gambling bust.
Is this her weakness? Can she deal with guilt?
3. The shrimp heart
Okaaaay, that’s something new. I’ll try not to look at shrimp cocktail as hearts.
4. SolHee’s passcode 700428 must be her father’s birthday.
Remember what I said about the long-lasting effect of the absences of EunJi and Solhee’s father on DoHa and Solhee, respectively.
5. DoHa finally told off that blackmailer, Jaechan.
Blackmailer: Did you ignore my call just now?
DH: What brings you here? Is it money?
Blackmailer: I heard you revealed your face and showed up at the company. Tsk. Since our hyung covers your back after your troubles, you think you can get away with anything? You sure are getting gutsy. What if the company goes down because of you? Who would want to listen to music written by a murderer? Think about it. Think.
DH: True. If they find out the songs were written by a murderer, there won’t be any more money for you, right? I can’t give you money anymore. I think I’ve repaid you more than enough for what you’ve done for me. (leaving him)
Jaechan is right that DoHa has found courage to stop hiding bit by bit. He doesn’t know, however, the source of DoHa’s confidence. It’s SolHee. He even braved to walk out in broad daylight to buy SolHee some hangover medicines.
Because he’s caring for somebody other than himself, he’s learning to face his fear, go outside his comfort zone, and meet people. On this trip to the grocery store, he met the bakery owner. The man later recognized him as the masked guy.
This is a parody of that iconic scene from “Mr. Sunshine” with Kim Taeri and Lee Byung Hun.
Lol. Kim Taeri is a roll this week! She’s been parodied in this drama and “Behind Your Touch.”
6. Their soccer date
From DoHa hiding his face in the soup restaurant to joining a crowded pub for a soccer game, he’s gone a long way. I do like that he and Solhee dressed up for the occasion like they were going on a fancy date.
He was being truthful about it while SolHee lied.
DH: Are you sure you’re going to cheer for a team?
SH: Well, I had to attend some business today. That’s why I’m dressed like this. I got too busy, so I didn’t have time to change. How about you?
DH: I just… I wanted to make a good impression on you.
And she was pleased.
7. Is it cancer?
@Cleopatra said that it’s been speculated that Solhee’s ex, Gangmin, accepted the break-up from Solhee easily because he had cancer. Yes, that’s very plausible.
However, I think it’s a weak plot point. He’s a police officer, for goodness’ sake. He risks his life every day when he goes out to apprehend criminals. It doesn’t need a brain surgeon to know that police officers have an elevated risk for mortality, more so than the general population. So why cancer should suddenly make him doubt SolHee’s devotion and loyalty to him, and question whether she was going to stay by his side during the treatment?
Pfft.
As for this scene, I’m guessing that he was eavesdropping on family grieving because the daughter became a widow too early. Her deceased husband could have died from cancer or died in the line of duty. Either way, he didn’t want to burden SolHee.
Clearly, both SolHee and Gangmin acted in haste. She ended the relationship in a knee jerk reaction when he lied. But she didn’t bother to listen to his explanation. Meanwhile, he accepted the break-up too quickly and didn’t bother to explain his actions so she would stay.
8. As for the mother’s fury…
She’s just a plot device to excise Solhee’s childhood trauma, so I tune out the melodrama.
9. Solhee’s fatalistic.
DH: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. I was just worried.
SH: Don’t talk to me. I’m embarrassed.
DH: Take this umbrella.
SH: Things are going to end up with you anyway. Because of this crappy power, I don’t get along with my family and can’t date a guy.
DH: What power are you talking about anyway?
SH: I can…hear lies.
It’s ironic that she encourages DoHa to fight for what he wants when she herself is prone to quit easily because she doesn’t see any point in changing the outcome.
That’s it. My quick takes.
I’m watching this till the end because I like KSH and HMH. It’s probably not as exciting but I’m still good. I anticipate angsty though.
I’m excited that they’re getting close and getting to know each other more. ☺️
I’ve started on When You Fly Towards Me too. The other drama from the same author of Hidden Love. I’ve seen episode 1 and I like it. Apparently the ML will be Lusi’s partner in her next drama. Not 100% sure on that though. It’s in Netflix. 😊
Wait, it’s When I Fly Towards You.😂
Ok. Let me preview it tomorrow.
No pressure. 😊 I initially wanted to watch CZY’s The Princess and The Werewolf but I’m putting it off because this one grabbed me better. 😃
I think the bakery owner is funny. Like SolHee got DoHa to say that he is good looking, but was it a lie this time? Thank goodness for a bit of comic relief.
A tangent: I am getting YouTube shorts of the same (baker) actor, the pub owner and the no-filters lady together in another drama, but I can’t find the name. Maybe directed by the same person? The lady plays a clumsy flight attendant.
The courageous mask removal in public is both heartening and causing alarm bells for Deuk Chan and me. I guess that’s what the director wants. It’s fine for SolHee to be blasé about it, but she has she already forgotten how the press hounds him? Once they post his face, the authorities and everyone else will know that Kim Seung Ju is in the country. It’s interesting that DH/SJ told SolHee his real name when they were in her flat, but he still wants her to call him DoHa, his ‘clean’ name.
