Thank you so much @pkml3. This is so sweet of you! I was mesmerised by the Magic Chocolate Flower Dessert. I looked up the video of how it’s made.

Here’s one YT version of it by Ann Reardon. Looks too good to eat, until the flower opens up LOL.

@WE, @SD, @LL, @FF, @MM, and all who come by… this is to let you know that next week, I may not be able to join in the Rewatch, but go ahead without me. Next week it will be Ep 7… quite exciting (I couldn’t resist watching ahead!)

I’m still feeling a bit sickish and may drop off to drowse now and then, but no worries. See you soon!

  4. Hello @GB. So sorry you are still under the weather. Drop off (and back on!) as you like.

  5. Hi GB and SD

  6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @SD! Thanks. Yes I’m sure sleep will get the upper hand from time to time. 🥱😴🤤😮‍💨😂

  7. Hi @GB, I hope you get well soon.

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @WE! So very prompt!

    Let’s start now!!!

  9. Hi FF.
Starts after she made him suffer involontary.
But clearly with sadism from the screenwriter. LOL.

  10. Hi @WE, @SD.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks @FF!

  12. I have to say I really love the opening credits ‘music’ with all the crackly, bad radio sounds. It immediately gives the impression of long distances, bad connections, missing information.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes, Writer had a field day being mean towards SW. He gets to understand how lonely it is to have lost the girlfriend that he had.

  14. Yes @GB, sorry you are still not feeling 100% yet 😢
Sending you get well thoughts and 🙏🏻

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, yes that’s true! I’ve heard the opening music so often but never really paid it attention.

  16. Hi @WE, @FF, @LL

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @LL! I really appreciate the prayers!

  18. @GB, I call that the “after effect” technique.
Or something like that. Looks ep 9 of W, how she makes suffer more Yeon-Joo after Kang Chul is reset.
A sad event can be not enough sad in the moment, because it can be fast, like a character death. So, it needs good after moments (good = not boring ones).

We have now the “maybe boyfriend”, kind of guy who decide unilateraly to marry you. LOL.

  19. MY is such a nice niece who visits her uncle after her date. SW’s reply is quite objective despite him feeling sad.

  20. More suffering inflicted by his ex-love.
No wonder why he’ll end to be a jerk with her.

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like how Writer keeps bringing up the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge thing. The idea keeps getting explored… is it a good idea to know alternative parallel timelines, the purview of God.

  22. I see that as hidden comedy. 🙂

  23. The boyfriend, SJ, is a bit of a poser: commenting about the staircase, asking himself to dinner, mentioning all the ‘important’ connections to SW (best friend, brother). YH calls him impatient in a latter episode and his interactions with MY come across as genuine, but on this rewatch I find myself doubting him (I am still not all the way through the original watch).

  24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, SW starts to see more and more the complications of one single, simple change in the past. Not only is MY no longer his gf, but is now his niece and on top of that, she has a bf. His brother is back and it’s also not as simple as just being back and happy.

LOL MY interrogating him on the gf whom uncle had and lost! Really rubbing it in!

  25. @SD, yes, it’s funny too. 🙂

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, I haven’t watched it through yet. I realise that I’ve forgotten a lot about this show.

  27. I’m lost, what the problem of his friend with his wife?
Is it his real wife or a new one from time travel effects?

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE LOL poor Young Hoon looks so depressed. Truly knowing the past and the changes in the present is not a happy thing for him. The fruit of the Tree of Knowledge is bitter for YH LOL.

  29. @WE, you are right the boyfriends interactions add a bit of humor (dark humor, poor SW) to the scene. And SW looking out the window like a jealous boyfriend, but now with that element of grief; she is lost to him forever. This actor is really good, btw. You can pick all of that up in just a few seconds. (unless I am just filling it in, lol)

  30. The young Young Hoon actor is Lee Yi Kiung, the husband in Marry My Husband.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Young Hoon really met his wife on the trip to ChunCheon that SW had planned. He got YH to come along so that he could spend time with the older sister. But that relationship fell through.

Ah we hear about the Christmas card from SW to YH, and the mystery necklace that SW’s mother received, supposedly from SW. Those were given by the older SW.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like the match cut of SW’s mother in the past transitioning to her in the present with that necklace. She does not seem to like the current SW, but she watches his news every night.

He finally gets to meet his ‘dead’ brother and Yoo Jin, the divorcee whom he married.

  33. @FF, I was so surprised to see that the young Young Hoon was the husband in Marry My Husband. Luckily, he looks different enough that I can like him in this show, LOL

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes, that’s right. We see the actors, then and now. Park Hyung Shik and Lee Yi Kyung. This show has several actors in it that we see quite often, still very active in the industry.

  35. Oh the needle mark. From drugs.
Looks like the new brother is worse than the previous one.

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD @WE, yes complications in the present. A living big brother is a druggie in some way… all is not as great as it should be although in the past, his brother had tried to make the present be as they used to be, to live as they used to. It never works out that way.

I guess the message is one should not play ‘God’.

  37. I can’t focus on the story coz I keep recognizing faces. The young Kim Yoo Jin is Hui Jin’s manager in Queen In Hyun’s men.

SW found out that his brother has bipolar and drug issues.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

SW’s father was no joke. His death enabled changes to take place.

We hear of the regrets in his brother’s life.

  39. I also like the subtle differences in the acting between the two main leads. SW still has the overbearing behavior, but he stops himself repeatedly from getting too ‘friendly’; MY seems much more childlike, even though she was before. And again, the lack of interest; she really sees him as a friendly uncle. Really well done, though I am not really sure how. The eyes maybe, the higher activity level of this MY?

  40. The villain shows his face again. SW’s boss has a skeptical expression watching the villain.

@GB, yes I think that is the message “do not play God”.

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @FF, bipolar? I didn’t catch that!!!

  42. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, @SD, I recall really disliking this villain when I first watched this series. Something oily about him, and I don’t like his lips pursing.

  43. It’s a curse. But if time travel could solve his life in one go, there wouldn’t be a story. 😉

  44. @GB, at 25:19 SW’s sister in law told SW about the brother suffering from insomnia and his bipolar disorder getting out of control at times and hence the brother get into drugs.

  45. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yup, @WE… and SW is still arrogant enough to think that he can solve it all the next evening before news time.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks for the timestamp @FF!

I’m at 32.08 now and am seeing the flashback where Choi JC was arrested but not convicted.

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

SW confronts Choi JC as someone who has nothing to lose, or so he thinks.

  48. Here this scene:
    JW’s father is so intransigeant.
I was shocked first time I watched this scene.

  49. The villain is so good, so easy to hate him. I enjoyed watching him losing control when provoked by SW. SW is cocky as ever.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes, the father was a difficult person to work with and live with. Both Choi JC and Jung Woo had problems with him.

  51. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I think the flasback is the youngest I’ve ever see the actor, Jeong Dong Hwan. Nowadays he keeps playing these iffy characters and grandfathers.

  52. Park Cheon Soo is such an autocratic person. So unexpected.

  53. Oh, here he speaks about “variables”.
Gosh, in W the hero speaks a lot about “variables”. lol.

  54. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Now Show starts preparing us… we hear that SW’s dying is happening sooner, and that he wants to save his parents from the past’s misfortunes.

  55. Lot of planification for the new travel.

  56. @GB, ya he still plays the autocratic grandfather or founder of a conglomerate. haha

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Such a good cliffhanger ending. I couldn’t help it… I watched the next episode because I forgot what happened next.

  58. At this rate, I think Young Hoon will go crazy. He asks the young doctor who is his girl friend to double check if SW has gone in time to change history again.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Another complication in the past… what will his past self think and do?

  60. Cliffhanger. Often time travel stories have difficulties to make people meet their past self. Complicate case to manage. But here we have it!

I have to go away now. People at home.
Have a nice week, see you soon.
    Will read you later. 😉

  61. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Bye @WE! I may or may not see you next week!

  62. Gosh SW sure is gusty, he wakes the young him up! And it ends here?????!!!!! Cliffhanger!!!!

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Exactly @FF… that’s why I had to watch the next Ep immediately LOL.

  64. Bye @WE, @GB hope to see you next week ya.

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m dropping off to sleep now! Hope to see you all next week if I can come on. If not… just start Ep 7 without me! 🙂

  66. @GB, haha I may watch it too.

  67. Shoot I missed it. I had an alarm set to remind me. Next time I will comment when the email comes in about the post. Being up so that I get the messages. I was checking v o d this morning and it only just dawned on me now. I will Watch and read the comments. I am really sorry to not show up.

  68. Bye @GB, @WE. I had to text back to my sister (she broke an arm during those nasty ice storms on the west coast) so I am running late again.

I was struck with how Choi Jin Chul on the phone sounds so much like all those pontificating, evil prime ministers when they are planning their misdeeds. @GB I have also disliked his blathering mumbling and the way he prissily purses his mouth from early on. I just checked and he is in quite a few of the dramas I have watched (and many I haven’t — I still have not watched The Heirs). I don’t remember him being this kind of character before though.

Jeon Gook Hwan plays a very similar role to this one in Doctor Stranger. Same sense of entitlement and preserving the business at all costs. In both he is a doctor. Hmm.

  69. @GB, I noticed but did not pay sufficient mind to the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge concept in the first watch. I will have to pay closer attention now. Interesting how SJJ brings Christian concepts into many of her dramas. Although in W it was Greek myths instead (Cronus eating his children).

  70. @GB along those lines, it is interesting that SW feels that his life is getting shortened (and later we find out it is true). The consequences of eating from the Tree of Knowledge. I was trying to think through the other dramas; if their was this sort of existential consequence. Obviously, MOTA where the dead live on for much of the drama and where JW disappears at the end. Not sure about the others. QIHM the leads get a happy ending. In W, evil is let into the real world for a time.

  71. BTW, Geek that I am I loved seeing the old clock on SW’s computer. Anyway, I am at the end. See you all next week.

  72. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, the thing about the hero who goes on a quest and has to take the forbidden fruit (in Lord of the Rings it was Frodo who wore the Ring too often, and was tempted by it) in order to meet his objectives… there are always the repercussions, ie… his life is affected. He becomes physically weaker, his mind gets affected, and/or his living years are reduced… stuff like that.

In the Bible, it was the disobedience-cum-pride that brought in sin and death. Eating the fruit was the sign of the sin. For SW, lighting the incense sticks and changing history was akin to committing the sin. So I guess the analogy is that he brought death nearer and nearer to himself each time he changed the past.

Yes, I do find how SJJ’s looping in Christian and other beliefs interesting. I’m not sure if she ever does explain the different messages that she seeks to convey in her dramas, but I would not mind getting a translation of her interviews to know what questions were asked and answered.
