@GB,
Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 10. Do you and the gang want to keep the same time for next week’s rewatch? People in the US will be moving their clocks one hour forward so what’s 10pm for you in Singapore will now be 10am here in the East Coast (EST) and 7am in West Coast (PST). Just tell me the group decision; no rush. 🙂
Enjoy the rewatch!
Thanks for the notice and the thread @pkml3!
OK Gang,
What do you say we keep to the same time regardless of Daylight Savings Time (DST)? The date when it changes may differ in different parts of the world as well, so I feel it’s easier if you adjust as and when you need but the time (for those who do not have Daylight Savings) remains always the same.
6.00am PST will change to 7.00am PST on 10 March
9.000am EST will change to 10.00am EST (not sure about Canada’s DST)
…
..
. and so on depending on where you are and when DST kicks in but it remains
10.00pm in Singapore
Is that OK with everyone?
It is okay by me.
Hi @SD, thanks! See you in less than 36 hours time.
@GB, I will go along with whatever the majority decides to be. See you later.
See you in less than 4 hours time @FF!
Daylight savings time varies in a very confusion way across the country. Here, though, on the Canadian /iEast Coast we are the same as the American East Coast. So I would be watching at 10 AM with the change in time rather than 9 AM.
Hi @MM, OK, as long as you’re OK with our rewatch being 10am when DST kicks in. 🙂 See you in 9 minutes!
Hi GB and MM.
As usual, I’m ok for any time. 😉
Hi @WE, @MM, @GB.
@GB: I answered to your wall of text last week. 😉
Hi Everyone!!! We start NOW!!!
Hellooooo everyone!
Hi SD.
Now he uses the 8th stick.
It’s a long time he didn’t used a stick now (how many episodes?).
OK @WE! I think I saw it.
Hi @FF!
I am thinking what a nightmare. It would be to remember one’s past bad deeds. In the way the brother is remembering right now.
SW uses his second last chance to change his life.
Hi FF.
Ofc, it’s too late now, he’s gone. This phone call is only to create suspens and make us feel bad with dramatic irony (the audience knows but not the character). Now we squeeze our buttocks.
@MM, I believe brother, Jung Woo, really had a difficult life after being resurrected. He didn’t really have purpose. His memories of 20 years prior are not happy. I don’t know if he’d also have caused as much or more trouble if he’d really been able to light the incense before he died.
It’s fortunate that SW is also suspicious of his own brother and checks the phone to listen to the phone call.
Hi @GB
SW is one step behind villain Choi. The sneaky look that his brother gave him should give SW a clue that something is fishy, smarty SW overheard the conversation between the brother and Choi.
He sure has learned how to drive a stick shift.
Or rather re learned
@MM I had the same thought when I saw him drive with so much confidence this time!
What irony that the killer and SW are standing facing each other!!! No way to not be recognised!
@MM is it unusual for SW to know how to drive a stick shift?
The henchman is really lucky he finds his car.
Oh the perfect timing of the look between SW and the villain. Both look around not seeing the other, both see each other at the same time.
The stabbing in the phone booth is so graphic.
Hi all,
Writing this nine minutes into watch. This latest travel back to 1993 is fraught with tension as we know SW is not armed with full knowledge of upcoming dangers. Juxtaposition of scenes of his worried brother and doctor friend add much to tension and our concern for SW.
@WE @FF, Yes the coincidences here are strong. But it’s possible since bad guy called the killer over to where SW and his brother were.
@FF SW had some difficulty driving a stick shift car at first in an earlier episode when he drove a car in the past.
The henchman failed in the chase. BUT, SW choose a phone booth too close to the place of the chase.
Hi @LL, did you see my first post about keeping to our Rewatch time even with Daylight Savings? Majority of us is okay with sticking to the same time.
Hi LL.
The brother is sweating hard with guilt. 🙂
Niagara falls of sweat.
Then STAB !!!
Stab and STAB again.
Need to end the time travel now and going to hospitaaaalllll.
@WE It’s fortunate that the knife is not really a big, long one, but a short dagger.
I am having trouble again. Not receiving the emails1 although I Had been receiving them up till now another thread.
Here: SJJ make us believe he travel in time when he escapes the phone-booth.
but NO!! it was a regular escape.
ahahah. I don’t know why she did that to fool us.
Why does he not turn off his car lights when he is hiding the car?
@MM I can still see your post.
Poor Young Hoon is having kittens while he waits for SW to return.
@MM, oh, such an embarassing question for… mmh not sure who, screenwriter or director?? ^^
That’s something I notice in all kdramas, @MM. They do not turn off the car lights. When it comes to modern cars, I guess they leave the engine running and the car’s day lights come on and don’t go off. But 20 years in the past, cars did not have day lights.
SJJ really wrote a very long chase scene! It’s been so many minutes of tension!!
In a kdrama, chase or not, you always respect the rules of driving code. 🙂
Then he jumps from a bridge. hey hey. Reminds me W.
Then he comes back in the room before he left. So the time travel rule is “you come back in the place you started” and not the place you are in the past.
Such a great encounter on the bridge and such a great solution! He arrives as a Puddle on the floor in his changing room.
@GB yes, it is such a long chase and I too thought SW would be back in current time when the attacker throw the stone to break the glass of the phone booth.
His colleagues are slow to realis that SW was stabbed.
@WE, yes, SW returns to where the incense was first burnt.
@GB, probably she wrote only strong points, as for action scenes. The script doesn’t say everything. It’s like “after a long chase with many incidents, he traps his enemy in bottles of water on the road. (note: stunt team should make the chase 5 minutes long)”
Hah! @WE, then the stunt team practically would have written that scene themselves!
SW is really a tough guy, after being stabbed he plunged into the river, time travel back to the present day, loss lots of blood, he can still stay conscious and talk sense to Yong Hoon.
@GB, yes. In W there is a fight in the killer appartement. SJJ precise very well the begginning, moments of tension. Then it’s “after a fight, Kang Chul win and…”
So the “fight” is many blows and kicks in the appartement, ahaha. Even in John Wick script there are many shortcuts.
I write a little more details for fight scenes because it will never be produced, but I also did lines like “more ennemies comming, fight continue, gunshots, shoots and going cover”.
In episode 37, I have a fight scene where I describe everything because there are mostly strong points. But episode 27, I make a mix of precise descriptions and vague action running.
I am having trouble commenting today; scenes are too intense! No good place to stop and comment.
@FF, It’s actually quite amazing he can talk when injured with 3 or more stabs!
@FF I was also marveling at that.
@WE, that’s a nice way to not have to write about every move in a fight. Let the stunt men do their job!
@SD, at least JW managed to pluck up courage to turn himself in. He has 1 less regret in the 2013 timeline.
@GB, about the time travel logic SW always returns to where he started off but he can always choose where he wants to show up. For example, this trip he started in his prep room at the broadcasting station and he can end up at the record store manned by his brother. In the original timeline 20 years ago on the same day SW was never at the record store, he is probably somewhere else. How did he choose where to show up is the question that is always on my mind.
SW goal is reached!!! He makes his brother tell the truth!
Huge time changes incomiiiiiiing!!!!!
@FF, I think the part we don’t see is that he travels on foot to the record store. I’m guessing that his workplace is near where the record store had been 20 years earlier.
Previously he drove his car to be near the hospital before he lit the incense, so that he could be outside the hospital when he ‘arrived’ in the past.
@GB, yeah. Anyway, it’s a common tip given in screenwriting articles. 😉
It ends with a phone call from his girlfriend.
BUT… WHAT. We don’t know.
Cliffhanger on his disturbed FACE.
@WE I watched ahead so I know what his face says! LOL.
He also wakes up And his coherent pretty quickly after surgery!
@LL, hope you enjoy the rewatch although you end 9 minutes after us! See my first post! However majority have voted already so no change in the actual time for the rewatch.
@GB, I watched too some weeks ago, but already forgot. lol! 🙂
I have to quit now, some groceries to get before it’s too late.
Have a nice week everybody!!
@MM, yes, the anesthetic seems to have worn off well and he’s able to answer a call!
Bye @WE! Happy grocery shopping!!
@GB, possibly so as he had to finished what he planned to do in 30 minutes so it is likely that he gets as near as possible to where he wanted to show up before lighting the incense.
Bye @WE.
The music at the end is also rather declarative about what she says.
@WE. And tense music. This was a very well crafted, tense episode. Everything should be fine in either timeline, yet he is disturbed! I want to watch the next episode right away! Enjoy your grocery shopping.
Bye everyone. Hope you all have a nice weekend and upcoming week.
Bye @SD!
I’ll be going too! See you ALL next week!
@GB Thanks,I’ll be fine with time next week. Today I was frozen out of comments for over 2 hours!!!
Puzzling that brother can remember everything unfolding during SW’s visit to 1993, but Choi doesn’t? He doesn’t remember order he had given to kill SW?
Hi @LL, I’m sorry to hear you couldn’t get back into the comments. But it’s great that you can continue to join us next week even with the Daylight Savings starting today (10 Mar for me).
@LL, I was positing in Episode 12 on the interesting logic of this Show’s time travel dramaverse. That there is Timeline 1 (T1) int 2012/2013 and with SW changing it to T1.2, T1.3 etc each time he time traveled.
But the people in the past who used to also be in T1, do not know their timeline has become Timeline 2 (T2) or T2.1, T2.2 etc. Until something happens because of SW’s time travel, they do not know yet that they will do something. When they take an action they otherwise wouldn’t have taken, they also make it/or enter T2.1 or T2.2.
I was mentioning this was I gathered so far in Episode12 in the 3rd-5th comments. 🙂
Repeating some notes:
1) There is a trigger to bringing on ‘memories’: people in 2013 do not remember or know stuff they did until something in either 1993 or 2013 triggers their memory, (I know for myself that I cannot recall stuff I did 20 years ago!) or until something that SW did made them take an action in the past that they might not otherwise have done. This was the case with Choi. If SW had not chased after his brother in 1992/1993, Choi would not have sent killer to find CCTV footage of him. The Choi who found out about the stranger who chased Jung Woo became Choi of Timeline 2.1 or 2.2 or whatever.
2) The ’20 years ago/later’ principle ie something significantly changed 20 years in the past, but those in T1.2 etc don’t know it until the same time in 2013. So Choi only got triggered to remember things from 1993 when the video with SW in it turned up. Then on say, 7 April 1993 Choi lighted the incense… so it is only on 7 April 2013 that Choi will remember the incense at the time that he found and lit the incense.
So Choi gave the order to kill SW but only in Timeline 2.1. The T2 Choi never knew about SW and never gave that order. SW changed the T2 to become T2.1 or T2.2 and sealed his own ‘fate’.
3) Once triggered characters start to ‘remember’ more and more clearly as in the case of Min Yeong. Or because their past selves changed events they start to ‘remember’ events that otherwise wouldn’t have happened.
4) We find that SW T1.3 or whatever is no longer able to remember what SW T2.1 ‘did’ until he does them. He has been ‘split’ in a sense. He now has to go to his diary of 2013 to read what he is going to do or has done.
Adding more notes: At first I thought only SW was split but now I feel that…
…in the same way that SW is split, it seems that Choi has also been split, and possibly also Young Hoon and Min Yeong and definitely Jung Woo (who had been dead afterall!). They discover what happened 20 years ago only suddenly in 2013.
5) However!!! And this is where it’s confusing… T2.whatever continues to move along its trajectory but it will merge with T1.whatever of 20 years in the future. There will ultimately be only 1 timeline and we will not have parallel universes.
@WE posted at the end of last week’s thread that he agreed to the T1.1 and T2.1 changes and the split in Sun Woo. This week I’m saying that not only SW but the others are also split and don’t know it but it’s okay for them because they do not time travel. Ultimately their T1 and T2 selves merge. It will not be the case for SW.
(I will post this again in a later thread and add to it as more stuff happens and we see more of the logic. I want to see how far my guesses are right.)
