Thank you!!!
No, no kisses yet. 🙂
How are you?
Janey
We are having a blast watching this drama @PM3! Great dialogues, steady pacing, hilarious situations and OST is catchy. I hope we get a good kiss soon! You can count on @agdr03 and I to keenly watch out for this. LOL!
Hope your trip went well and with minimal jetlag.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Thanks @pkml3! Hi @Janey and @agdr03
Yes, we’re all waiting for the kisses aren’t we… but first they need to be more friendly-like.
I’m really enjoying this Show. I even like the tropes. I noticed that in the Episode where JH was drunk, he carried AJ under the trees with cherry blossoms and again after the run from the reporter, they walk together under cherry blossoms. If ever there was a big, fat arrow saying that this is THE couple, those scenes were it. Unfortunately, did not end with a kiss under those pretty flowers.
agdr03
Hi @Janey and @GB 🙂
Yes, my eagle eye won’t let those kisses go by without mentioning it here. LOL.
Hopefully we won’t have too much angsty with the ex of DH, Chaewon and the siblings.
Arihsi
Eeeeeee *sequels with excitement*
I think there will be some angst. Reason is, first the contractual nature of the marriage has been revealed in order for them to proceed properly with kissing. I’m afraid they’ll need some external impetus as well. Variety of options there in the form of goons, abduction, weaponry (knives or guns), Truck-nim, rouge car drivers, moral-less paps, natural elements in k-drama land such as a room full of fire or water etc.
Arihsi
Has to be*
Arihsi
I’m loving this drama @pm3 and enjoying so much with the BoD gang here ! I’m waiting for the kisses and but I’d love to see some warm hugs before that ! JH really needs some TLC.
Thank you, @packmule3. This drama has been so much fun.
@Arihsi, thank you for the link. I can’t wait to see it in the drama.
Arihsi
@Fern thank you for you reassurance that I wasn’t crazy wrt paper cranes on the older thread 😁 On other sites, if a person differs in even an opinion, the trend is to label as “crazy” with that being the kindest phrase.
On BoD, the gentle souls are like no, no , you aren’t crazy no matter what, Gwenchana, Gwenchana…
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
LOLOL @Arihsi, you are enjoying yourself here in the comments!!!
Yes, the contract is going to be found (I believe by AJ’s sister) and sh*t is going to hit the fan when it gets out. That has to happen to stop the wedding. It has to be IMPOSSIBLE lol. Otherwise how will we get our kiss?
Fern
@Arihsi, even if you were incorrect, I could never call you crazy. Inspired, creative, imaginative or inclusive wrt other dramas perhaps. 😉 But I know that you are data driven, so being able to provide a confirmation was a pleasure for me.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Episode 7
Oh golly wow! Now that’s what I call a great way to make the wedding impossible. Of course. Why didn’t I think of that! Watch the epilogue.
Arihsi
@GB and @Fern LoLoL… Yes I really enjoy myself in comments section of BoD. That’s why I never watch more than one dramas at a time. Because watching is not watching unless I come here and talk (write) a lot.
Ah @Fern you supported your argument very well with adequate data. 😉

Greetings all! So happy to be watching this show with y’all. There are so many colloquialism used in this show. Today AJ referred to a “swallow with a broken leg”. As near as I can tell this is reference to a Korean parable of Heungbu and Nolbu. Two brothers – the younger brother nurses a swallow back to health and it leads to great prosperity with the harvest. The older brother breaks a swallows leg in order to nurse it to health and it leads to disasters and misfortunes. The moral is that good deeds bring luck, but it also challenges the idea that the eldest child is the most jmportant child. (Thank you Wikipedia!). I still don’t quite understand how the reference was used in context. AJ is trying to do good deeds and be a good BIL perhaps that is the reference
Good Twin
Ugh not AJ.. JH! JH made the comment.
Arihsi
@GB, yes ! The epilogue! I like the silent epilogues of this drama because they’re followed by further explanation in the next ep.
I have a feeling this whole debacle of DH hiding that he’s gay + contract marriage is going to backfire on Ji Han, not DH himself .
Reason being, 1) Grandfather is going to blow his hat when he discovers both these truths 2) JH is now in love with a scammer (her sister’s word and AJ agrees) and someone grandpa will never accept again. 3) this has put the evil reporter on to JH on behest of evil step sister. 4) DH doesn’t seem like the one to shoulder responsibilities. He doesn’t want the company, he doesn’t even want the marriage and he doesn’t want anyone, not even his brother to know his orientation for the fear of consequences. He’s unlikely to come to JH’s rescue.
I think we’re at the opening credits scene where a hand pulls out an Ah Jong in a wedding gown. She’s wearing a wedding dress when JH pulls her away. I was wrong in presuming an abduction. JH pulls her away and she runs with him. She’s looking stunning as she shimmers while running voluntarily with him. He’s holding her hand, not dragging her from the wrist and AJ is an able fighter.
I think now, around ep 10 will come the part of opening credits where the car falls apart and Ji Han is cradled in Ah Jong’s hands. The umbrella in opening theme is not the one typically used in rains. It looks like the one AJ stuck near the urn of JH’s mom at the memorial hall. Rain was pouring and AJ promised that although she’s a fake and she lies, she’ll protect her son. The umbrella covers JH’s mom’s picture and AJ walks outside in long strides to the one she’d protect.
Arihsi
@Good twin I think it can also refer to the fact that grandpa wants to give the company to DH although he’s neither able not interested just because he’s the eldest. Grandpa behaves as if JH doesn’t exist.
Good Twin
There is also a reference to another parable involving Hong Gil Dong! I love this show!!
Good Twin
It’s not really a parable, it is a novel and the character is really significant in Korean culture.
Arihsi
Could you explain a bit more reg the parable please @good twin ? I’m all 👂. I’ve missed the reference!
Good Twin
Wow that ending scene was very reminiscent of “The Graduate”. I was expecting them to get on a bus.
From what reporter said to older sister I think it will be revealed that the father of the oldest children was behind the accident that killed mother and her lover.
Fern
Spoilers below:
Yes to all of the above. Good catch @Good Twin; the reporter insisting on his innocence means that Grandfather knew and has been protecting his son-in-law from the reporter and from the law.
I had a feeling that JH would show up at the wedding dress shop. He must have asked DH to meet him outside for a minute. (Gosh, every dress was beautiful, imh. This actress has an enviable figure.) But AJ didn’t get the typical star-struck groom look from either brother – another trope twisted.
So the cat’s out of the bag for 3 people – JH, Soo Jung and Taemin, but for different reasons. SJ and T because of the contract and JH because of the ex outing DH. The threads holding the planed marriage together are unraveling.
Good Twin
JH references the character Hong Gil Dong when he is having drinks with his assistant.
He is asked why he is going home late, JH respondis that DH and AJ are nesting at his home. He then says: “I kind of understand Hong Gil Dong’s feelings these days.”
“I don’t want to call him Hyung.” “I don’t want to call her Sister in law.”
His assistant says: “Hong Gil Dong couldn’t do it, not that he didn’t want to.”
JH: “Why does that matter now?” “What matters is that I am having to do it even though I hate it.”
The Library of Congress describes the Joseon era book featuring Hong Gil Dong as follows: “Even though he was very intelligent and talented, Hong Gildong was never accepted as a son of a noble family because of a rigid status system. After he left home, Hong Gildong became a bandit leader and organized a band of “Robin Hoods,” who robbed the rich of their unjustly earned goods and distributed them to the poor. Later, he went to the foreign nation called Yuldo and built an ideal country where all people were equal.”
So interesting at both this reference to HGD and the broken footed swallow reference are both stories involving the second son and promote the concept of equality and recognizing merit for merit’s sake.
It is showing that even though JH has dutifully played the role for years of being the unrecognized child, he is now straining because he now sees something he really wants for himself – AJ.
Fern
I didn’t notice this last week, but at the beginning of episode 7, as soon as JH tells AJ that he will acknowledge the marriage, she shoots a look at the wall. She glances towards it a couple more times as she remembers another saying, “You wish for happiness with your heart, not your head.” AJ believes JH wasn’t wishing for her happiness with his heart. For someone who remembers all sorts of sayings and lore, she must have recognised the significance of the break-up wall, especially since he put the crane in her hand and wished her happiness. (Even more so when she found the other 999 cranes at the house.) It was a classic break up scene, although only JH was fully aware.
Later, JH overhears AJ and DH speaking and DH says that because of her, he doesn’t feel anxious for the first time. Finally JH feels that his brother’s marriage is worthwhile on some level. It looks like JH can finally move on, until the epilogue scene shows us why he pulled AJ out of the bridal shop.
Fern
A question to all of you: if Grandfather called off the police investigation to protect the father of the older siblings, why is JH still his shame? I’m waiting for the show to clarify. I know that DH and JH know more than has been completely revealed about that.
Also how could the Choi siblings and Se Jin shout at each other in the hallway after meeting with Grandfather without him knowing, and understanding what they were saying? Grandfather already said that he knows everything that happens under his roof. So now the rift appears between the Choi siblings with Seung-ah saying that she will win and take all. I wonder how exactly she plans to accomplish that.
Fern
Or is JH not really Grandfather’s shame, but has to appear so to salvage the situation? A true scapegoat?
Janey
Another fun episode and so much to unpack! Thank you BODers for the comments. Sharing some of my notes below.
We finally see the discussion of Taek and AJ. Shouldn’t AJ be happy that JH is at peace with accepting her and DH? Hmm, her gut tells her it’s something different.
And do we say goodbye to our light bluegreen boxed car? Oh no!!! JH totally changing his life and lifestyle… he vaguely accepted CW’s proposal.
Sec Kim’s rationale why grandpa is keen on Dohan inheriting the company as part of his atonement and regret for his daughter made sense. I like DH’s response here saying he is not his mother. There’s more to the accident than is shown.
Grandpa declared the first grandson will never inherit the company. They spilled the article to the public about AJ so the reporters are hounding her and her family. Granddaughter is scheming, too. She feels she is still in the running to inherit if she can discredit her step brothers but I don’t think so. She was not listening to grandpa when he said her shortcoming is not accepting his stepbrothers.
The thousand cranes make an appearance! AJ knew the significance of the cranes and she knows it involves her because he gave her the yellow one. To make the wish come true, he needs 1 more crane- will he fold the blue paper that AJ left him?
“Fake it til you make it!” Faking, acting, lying are all the same in this story. As a lot of you have noted, the unraveling begins and but that will eventually pave way to our OTP to be together. Looks like kiss is on the menu for episode 8!
Good Twin
@Fern – the viewer hasn’t been given enough information to understand grandfather’s statement about JH being his shame. We know JH revealed his existence to the reporter when he was a boy basically confirming that that the mother had at least one secret child, but it seems unreasonable that this innocent act would be enough for the grandfather to begrudge him all these years. But that is what the secretary conveyed to AJ at the memorial service, that this was the act that the grandfather couldn’t forgive JH for.
Going back to the parable with the broken swallow. In Episode 7, when JH is talking to CH – he refers to the 1000 cranes. He then says: “I thought the swallow with the broken leg was the worst. But those guys are the worst. They won’t let me do anything.” He is referring to AJ and DH “nesting” (love the use of this word) at his house. After reading the Korean parable (or reading the Wikipedia page!) about the brothers and the swallow with a broken leg, I think JH is referring himself as the younger son who nursed the swallow with the broken leg back to health. Everything JH has done to show that he is a filial son and a good and diligent businessman is the equivalent of nursing the swallow back to health. Interestingly, the scene right before this one is the older sister meeting with the reporter. Like in the parable – she is the older “brother” who intentionally breaks the swallows legs as a means of acquiring what she wants. JH is exhausted trying to earn his place in the family, the older sister destructively claims her place.
@Janey – I’ll miss that car too – what I think we are seeing is JH starting to break under the weight of being the good son. He has played by the rules and he is no closer to achieving his aims and now he has experienced a love he also can’t have.
Fern
@GB, I think the cherry blossoms you mentioned were another twisted trope. Although they highlighted the OTP, they were oblivious to the flowery beauty over their heads.
@Janey, you wrote: “And do we say goodbye to our light bluegreen boxed car? Oh no!!! JH totally changing his life and lifestyle… he vaguely accepted CW’s proposal.” Yes, he’s looking at that alternate path which includes CW and his entitlement to a better position in the future. He won’t need to hide within a little cube car (although it was a charming aspect of his own masquerade within the LJ company). I wonder if we’ll ever see it again.
I recently re-watched the K-drama Love to Hate You. Some of the themes are similar, although I’m enjoying this writer more. A feisty can-do-anything female lead; she’s not the prettiest one in the drama; a secret contract that is discovered by a close friend. I enjoyed Love to Hate You a lot, but not as much as I like Wedding Impossible.
Janey
@GoodTwin – thanks for the context on the crane with broken leg. I have to rewatch that part when he said that. In his conversation with CW, what I picked was the aquarium – be a fish on a bait and show it (JH) off to the world. JH will be that “trophy husband” of CW.
Come to think about it, we have so many animal references in the dialogues. Nasty Bee, butterfly, cranes, fish, menacing dog from AJ dad’s dream.
@Fern – I love AJ’s dress from the family meeting. The color softens her overall look (her eyes are sharp and she can do feisty look easily) and I think mirroring her softening heart to JH. Her beauty is growing on me.
@arihsi – great catch on the opening credits animation when JH pulled AJ from the wedding dress shop. JH is “rescuing” her from a loveless marriage not knowing she is a lead player in that farce. I am reminded he did a similar “rescue” in ep2. I’m comforted that AJ’s sister is abhorring the fake marriage. She doing the “my eyes are on you” sign to DH was funny.
@GB – I like the epilogues too but they only started in ep 5, right? Or did I miss some of them?
Good Twin
I found JH’s references to classic Korean stories which feature the second son overcoming rigid family hierarchy to be interesting, self aware, and perhaps a foreshadowing.
@Janey I think there has only been a couple of epilogues. This one was a doozy. I’m glad he pulled her away in the final dress – that jeweled long sleeve one made her look like a matron.
I look forward to tomorrow’s episode and seeing how the first kiss comes about after the big reveal. Does he think he is saving her or does he intend to confront her?
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
I’m rewatching Ep 7 and note a sad Ji Hoon. I find JH a character who tugs at my heart because he reminds me of a lonely, little boy who’s trying to be an adult in an unfair world. Up to a point he’s naive and needy like a child, but then he has to make big, adult decisions in order (he feels) to ensure that his brother and he can survive in the cutthroat world of LJ. However despite all his research and preparation, one crucial piece of info was withheld from him by his brother, and that is what is going to bring down the house of cards. I feel that he’s been neglected and not trusted by his brother. Both of them don’t seem to be really listening to each other. Big brother did not seem to do much in the way of looking out for his younger brother. DH seems to be intent on mainly running off to do his own thing without interference.
He is shunned by his own grandfather, humiliated by step-siblings and goes incognito at work as a mere intern.
The only allies JH has are the LJ manager/secretary duo and AJ. Of these, the 2 men do not consider themselves on equal footing with JH who’s their ‘boss’. AJ is the only one who listens to him and offers friendship, but she’s to be taken away by his brother.
I’m looking forward so much to the time when he will have some ‘family’ around him… even if that happens to be AJ’s family and little Ji Oh who calls him the ‘mat buying ahjusshi’. I want him to be acknowledged by his grandfather who owes him an apology for how he’s been treated for so many years. I’d like his ability to run the company to have a chance to shine through as well. I feel that although much younger, he’d give his step-sister a run for the money in taking over LJ and running it well.
I applaud his well-meaning although mistaken saving of AJ from a ‘bad’ marriage with his brother. He’s been sneaky and deceptive under certain circumstances but never meant ill to anyone. The next episodes as we approach the end had better reward this boy sufficiently for the sadness he’s experienced most of his young life.
Janey
@goodtwin – when was the broken footed swallow referenced? Maybe I did not catch it in the translation of the streaming I watched? Thank you!!!
I like the way the epilogue was shot. You would think it’s only 1 person sitting. The ex was warned not to touch AJ so he goes a different route with telling JH his brother’s secret.
On the paper cranes – JH gave 1 to AJ so in a way, since it’s not 1000 anymore, that wish is not fulfilled? 😉
Laughing at the BIL comment that with all the money AJ will get from the contract, her father can have hair like Bigfoot! I wonder if we will see AJ’s appa with the hair implants! LOL!
The wedding dresses are nice but I don’t think they suit AJ just yet. I hope she will have a better wedding dress. It’s a good thing the last dress she had was not so white and so bridal since they were running on the streets. Where’s the getaway car? They were also holding hands and not a wrist hold by the guy.
I will not have time to watch tomorrow’s ep until late in the day. Enjoy ep 8 chinggus! I read that we only have 12 eps.
I’m thinking that Chae Won should have enough self-respect that she should not just accept going along with someone who’s trying or putting in effort to be in a romantic relationship with her. She actually does not mind being left dangling on a hook! How unromantic is that!!! Perhaps she’s settling for the ‘arranged marriage’ sort of thing with a friend whom she admires, but I wonder how long that can satisfy her. In any case, she’s not going to have a chance to find out. The preview suggests that JH gives up trying pretty soon!!
So we have a fake marriage with DH and AJ, an attempt at romance with JH and CW and now we come to the non-event of a relationship between Eun Taek and Ji Ae. It seems we come from pretense and enter too much honesty. If only Ji Ae had rephrased what she said (about turning him down) and had not pre-empted Eun Taek’s confession, she might have had a date with him! Ji Ae has the audacity to say with all honesty, that she does not like Eun Taek at all, and still expects him to confess to her knowing that she’ll probably reject him. What’s the poor man to do? LOL she feels that she’s the one who’s been rejected and serves her right. Too much honesty at the wrong time is not too good either!!
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@Fern, I agree that all that shouting in Grandpa’s house would surely have been heard (and maybe recorded on CCTV?). Perhaps that is why Grandpa immediately blamed the Min Woong and wife when reporters started bothering the Na family.
Seung Ah kept very quiet about the part where she was the one who called in the Reporter for the memorial, letting Min Woong take all the blame. I guess she thinks that once the reporter digs up dirt on AJ with the Lee brothers, she’ll appear to be the ‘cleanest’ one of the lot and will inherit LJ. That might be what she meant when she crowed that she’d be the last one standing to inherit.
Janey
@GB – after a failed marriage, CW is playing it safe and would rather settle and have a friend to marry. She would have accepted DH if he agreed 5 years ago. But I still do not like “horse trading” that she and grandpa did.
@goodtwin – the translation I got does it do it justice and totally missed the metaphor. Here’s the exchange:
JH: I’m getting introduced to a lot of friends. Fish friends, bird friends…
CW: bird friends?
JH: yes. A thousand birds stuck in my house.they are a huge pain in the neck. Making me unable to do anything.
Then they talk about how long AJ will be staying at his house. And CW said to come to her instead.
Good Twin
@ GB So interesting! JH tells CW about the “1,000 birds who can’t fly away because they’re locked up in my house”. He says: “I thought the swallow with the broken leg was the worst.” “But those guys are even worse.” Kudos to the translator who kept in the obscure reference to the swallow. It certainly has significance to the story. Especially with the reference to Hong Gil Dong when he is drinking with his assistant.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@Good Twin, thanks for the link to the folktale of the brothers and swallow. Yes, clues are subtly being given to us to consider that the cultural bias towards the eldest child, or maybe eldest ‘son’, is being subverted. Seung Ah is capable but is not considered, likely because she’s female. She is expected to help her brother to rise. Do Han is expected to take over the company and not Ji Han who is younger. These cultural biases limit the choice of potential good leaders and businesspeople.
I was laughing at JH scolding himself in the car after AJ had seen him without his shirt on. He was more concerned that he had not worked out and she’d seen his lack of muscles LOL. Then he was more embarrassed that he’d been concerned about whether DH and AJ shared a bed. Such a young boy at times!
Fern
@Janey, I agree that CW wasn’t as fussed as the men about marrying either of the brothers. She would have done it 5 years before, or now. But now, she is attracted to JH and not to DH so it would be more of a love match. I’m glad neither of them are rushing things. While she has verbally shown her hand to JH, she isn’t physically trying to flirt or seduce him.
I re-watched the wedding dresses and I’ve changed my mind. While the dresses all look nice, the first looks positively itchy, the matronly one is so sequinned that it looks like armour, there’s a marshmallow one that looks difficult to move in, finally a silvery one that billows and shimmers. And it’s funny that DH was enjoying the fittings more than AJ, who seemed to get her epiphany whilst trying on the second dress.
I had the impression that AJ didn’t struggle against JH taking her outside because she was confused and concerned why DH wasn’t there – perhaps she thought JH was taking her to DH? She had to run to keep up with his strides, but she didn’t protest. I can’t wait to see how that scene carries on.
Fern
@Growing Beautifully, I rewatched the scene with Grandfather and the elder siblings. You wrote, “Perhaps that is why Grandpa immediately blamed the Min Woong and wife when reporters started bothering the Na family.
Seung Ah kept very quiet about the part where she was the one who called in the Reporter for the memorial, letting Min Woong take all the blame.”
Later in the hallway, Min Woong berated Seung Ah for “framing” him but she reminded him that he framed her for his drunk driving.
My take on this is that Seung Ah told Grandfather that Min Woong and his wife released the information, but it almost seems that Seung Ah herself released the information because of the word ‘framed’, which implies an innocent party or parties being blamed. Maybe the translation I saw isn’t quite correct if the couple have admitted guilt, or the brother uses it incorrectly. I don’t know – am struggling a bit to know who did what. Perhaps it doesn’t matter so much. We are now seeing the power struggle between the former sibling allies.
agdr03
Howdy all! 😃
That proper hand holding of AJ and JH at the last scene made me squeal. 😍 I got the feels from that. 🥰
I will rewatch now. AJ really knows that something is not right with how JH just accepted them. I thought when she mentioned to her friends about JH accepting her and DJ finally, she said she’s feeling uneasy in her chest. That’s because her heart is trying to tell her something too! 😆
Hopefully she’ll realise it in the next episode.
agdr03
Howdy Ladies! I posted a comment but I cannot find it here.
Anyway, that proper hand holding of JH and AJ at the end of the episode had me squealing. Love it!
When AJ mentioned to her friends about her feeling something in her chest because JH finally accepted her is her heart telling her that something was wrong because she likes him! She’s feeling uncomfortable because she has feelings for him. I wonder when will she’ll realize this.
How many containers did she dropped when she saw JH half naked? LOL!
agdr03
Correction, from rewatching, it’s when JH calls AJ sister-inlaw, that’s when she feels heavy in her chest because her heart is rejecting it but she doesn’t know it yet. 🙂
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Hello @Fern, about the being framed… what I gather is that Seung Ah was the one who sent Reporter Kang to the Memorial Day family gathering. When brother Min Woong was being accused and scolded for releasing info on AJ’s family, the Memorial Day issue was laid at his door as well. He admitted to the first accusation but protested his innocence to the other. To him it would have been the same as if she had framed him, because she just sat back and let him take the blame.
She does have a point about him forcing her to take the blame for drunk driving.
Yes indeed… the true state of affairs between those siblings always was the power struggle. The boy is expected to inherit but it’s the girl who has the brains to do the proper job. She’s using those brains to get rid of all competition. I wonder if Grandpa will ever really let her get her hands on LJ. She’s on the Board and has contacts there and some support, but I wonder if Grandpa would rather bring in a total outsider to take over if Do Han and/or Ji Han cannot make the cut. He probably knows how ruthless Seung Ah is and may not hand over power to her.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@agdr03, you are so right!!! The unease in her chest was her heart telling her she’s tying herself down to the wrong guy.
LOL, was she carrying all the side dishes that her mum had given her and dropped every single one? Over a mere naked male torso? I admit it will take a great deal more to make me drop anything in my hands!!!
I loved the ending and how natural the circumstances were that brought it about. I especially love the fact that JH wanted to rescue her from an untenable situation immediately. It shows how much she means to him.
@Fern, I agree that AJ went willingly and without protest with JH because she may have first thought that they were going out to where DH was. However after a while, she may have just decided to go along with JH, because she trusted that he would not let her get hurt. 🙂
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
How funny that AJ’s dad passes out drunk when he hardly drank anything.
The way AJ’s sister, Su Jung bore holes into DH with her eyes, scared him LOL.
I like the way AJ has insight into the fact that while JH is happy his brother will no longer be anxious with her, JH himself will be anxious. When she asked him, he had to ‘fake it’ and lied that he didn’t mind if they became in-laws.
AJ’s girlfriends think she’ll be the one envying them because they would be able to keep acting while she would be forced to stop, but the real reason she’d be envying anyone would be that she was going to be forced to act for 3 years, even when she no longer wanted that main lead role.
agdr03
@GB, it looks like all of the side dishes dropped to the floor. LOL.
Me too, it won’t be easy for me to drop anything but with half naked JH, more like my jaw. hahaha
Yes, JH’s first reaction was to stop AJ from marrying his hyung. So maybe the preview will show him trying to persuade AJ at all cost and the last resort would be to be honest with how he feels. Crossing my fingers here. 🙂
I felt AJ’s question to JH about him being sure if he’s ok for them to be inlaws was for her too. She was thinking about it while trying on wedding dresses.
I’m excited for tomorrow’s episode. I want kisses!!! And 2 kids!!!
Arihsi
Ohh @GB AJ and her insights into JH.. Let me count the ways.
“It must be suffocating”, “you look really anxious,” – as early as Ep 2.
She beats up her BIL because she’s so angry at the abuse JH goes through. She stops it on site as well.
She holds his hand in the plane. Again, no questions asked.
she takes the wheel post the reporter incident at memorial hall. And continues driving even after that evening. No questions asked.
“You aren’t okay, are you ? People who aren’t okay always say they are” She knows.
She drives like a mad (wo)man because she knows the price JH will pay if the reporter catches them. Before she goes crazy at the wheel, she glaces at the tailing car, then and JH and then wroooooom.
she blows on his “wounds”. She knows he’s hurt AND knows why but doesn’t pry because he already feels belittled.
She doesn’t like his subdued behaviour at all. Not with his half-siblings, nor with herself. “Be angry at me if you’re angry!” Ep 7
She doesn’t let him take misdirected blame on her behalf either. “No, it’s my mistake. I did wrong.” – This gives me immense hope that with this contractual debacle, she’ll be quick and thorough to apologise.
She knows he’s unhappy. She asks his secratary/team leader “Is he okay?”, she asks JH himself, “are you okay?” X 5. This conversation keeps replaying in her head because she knows he’s not okay. She’s uneasy because she knows something is up.
She knows he folded the paper cranes for her.
She knows he’s quick to “throw away” his wishes symbolised by paper cranes in the trash. He “trashed” his wishes which she carefully picked up from the trash, and packed again for him. She wants him to have his wishes fulfilled.
At the introduction dinner between families and later, she becomes very soft when it comes to him. I really like how the actress subtly portrays the change in stance. The corner of her eyes become soft, she stops fake smiling and starts worrying. She’s all feisty “I’ll see this through its end. It’s my decision etc” but melts in a puddle as soon as JH is struggling.
I also LOVE how none of this is about his looks or the money he has. No backlit shots, no giggles girls saying how handsome he is etc. None of it is looks for either side.
Arihsi
Thank you for the detailed explanation @Good Twin. Please accept virtual 🍪 to have with your beverage of choice 😁
Fern
@agdr03, last week’s preview was misleading. I thought JH was wearing less, based on AJ’s reaction. Much less. Dang.
I think that AJ has come around to her own feelings for JH, but because of external circumstances (family, contract, DH, etc.) she will feel she can’t back out. JH is as stuck in her mind as she was in JH’s mind.
Thank you for the list of caring moments.
Fern
@Ahihsi thanks for that list. I forgot to @ you before that sentence.

The irony is, if JH succeeds in pulling AJ away from the marriage, his plans for DH’s succession in the company will also be scuppered. He will also be giving up his own position as CW’s potential husband. I know that perhaps the ex wants to blackmail DH but interrupting the marriage won’t stop that.
But DID the ex want to blackmail? I didn’t think so. I thought he just wanted DH’s attention. DH assumed that it was the ex who spoke to the journalists, but we know it wasn’t – at least I don’t think he has at this point. When asked directly, DH said he felt sympathy for his ex, but no longer. I think this spurs the ex on to outing DH to JH. -Just to damage the path to the wedding – not yet to destroy it or the family. It’s also possible that the ex isn’t out as gay publicly as well, so telling a journalist would damage him as well.
Fern
Sorry, my last comment was a little ‘stream of consciousness’. To clarify, logically, if JH claims AJ, JH will be giving up his plans for DH to lead the LJ company through DH’s marriage to AJ. JH will also be giving up his own potential stake in the company by no longer being able to marry CW. (I had the impression that Grandfather agreed to CW and JH getting married perhaps as a way of giving JH the power it is clear he can handle.)
The ex, Jung Dae Hyun, is clearly not over DH. (Why are they both DHs?) Even with a sham marriage, if DH were willing, he could quietly continue a relationship with Dae Hyun on the side. I wish we could find out who wrecked the studio and beat Dae Hyun 5 years ago. Clearly, if that person realised or assumed DH’s sexual orientation they haven’t brought it up yet. Or perhaps they just beat up Dae Hyun because he was there. Don’t know.
Waiting for more reveals tonight.
Janey
So nice to wake up and read all your comments!
@arihsi – thanks for the list showing how attuned AJ is to JH. Let me add AJ doing some pressure point massage to his hand to ease his stomach (after the community hall meeting) as he mentioned he is prone to that. She asked him again about his stomach after the carchase with the reporter. AJ definitely “sees” him. It must be part of the attraction.
On the preview showing JH poised to hit DH, I hope it’s not because he is gay but because of the web of lies and dragging AJ in it. And the glass being dropped as a shocked reaction from the “reveal” of the ex is because DH is not really in love with AJ.
Arihsi
Na Ah Jong. At this point in time, please tell him the marriage is contractual.
Case in point, 56.90 to 58.00 and not the fact that he says he likes AJ. He’s going to loose his reputation, the company, whatever is left between him and his hyung, and his friendship with CW and the root of all that is a lie.
It’s going to hurt JH so bad at this point. More so now than at any previous point. He doesn’t deserve to be lied to like that.
Arihsi
Some of us, including me, can’t look past the premise of the ML of QoT being “happy” at his wife’s predicament or the fact that he’s trying to be a “hero” when she’s in fact dying. I can’t be convinced of any merit in their matrimony.
Similarly, here, yes, AJ “sees” JH, yes, she resonates with him and yes, she’s ready to beat up anyone for him. But, I can’t be convinced of her “love”, affection or even respect of JH as a person until she comes out clean regarding the contract. Just. No. Tell him girl. Please.
Arihsi
Both my previous comments are wrt ep 8. Sorry if I caused confusion! 56.00 to 58.00 timestamp of ep 8!
Janey
@arihsi – what a dilemma for AJ. She will betray either brother if she keeps quite (JH) or comes clean (DH). Ottoke?
I have not watched ep8 yet. ☺️
Arihsi
How come JH is surrounded by what he calls a minefield? Everywhere he turns there are mines.
Who does he have on his side, pray tell ?
Definitely not his hyung even prior to this whole mess. He left him five years back, never old him his orientation AND held him responsible for their parents’ deaths.
The grandfather just pretends JH doesn’t exist, keeps his identity hidden and calls him a shame.
The half-siblings push him and slap him around. And pay murderous paps to tail him. Not even worth a mention.
CW is a friend but hides a “deal” where she bought him from his grandpa. A matrimony between an unwanted and unacknowledged illegitimate son and a hyper-successful CEO, only daughter of a chebol isn’t marriage between equals. JH will always have to fake it.
And Ah Jong – where do I even begin? Means well but hides a lie big enough to crumble him.
Ah Jong-a. I expect you to do better.
Arihsi
@Janey I didn’t think of it that way ! It’s a valid point. She doesn’t know that JH now knows that DH is not interested in her as a woman ! So if she tells JH, she’d be betraying DH, a best friend.
But still. I think it’s a betrayal wayyy below the belt on both DH and AJ’s part.
Also, doesn’t DH EVER go to office? Like, what ? He never goes to office, he has no idea how LJ group functions and he’s the successor?
Good Twin
Despite the kiss at the end – which imo lacked heat, this really felt like a transitional episode to set up all the reveals leading to the conclusion.
A few points:
His Assistant calls him Jihanie (instead of using the more formal “issi”)- showing the affection between the two.
There is yet another classical reference when the secretary refers to JH as Lee Bang Won. When he hears that JH asked whether he should give up the company. The Secretary exclaims “No Way!” “How can our Lee Bang Won give up Joseon – I mean LJ?” Lee Bang Won was a fifth son and only gained the thrown after eliminating rivals. He was the 3rd King of Joseon and known for consolidating power in the central state.
I again think the screenwriter knows their Jane Austen. When AJ says she envies CW, she sounds just like Mr. Knightly when he says he envies Frank Churchill. In this case, AJ tells DH that she envies CW’s honesty. AJ is increasingly suffering because of lying to so many people.
Monmor
I have come late to this watch but have caught up now. I was very impressed by How the epilogue was done in episode seven.
I find it interesting how The set up for scandal has been happening for almost all of the episodes and yet has not Materialized. I think that will be happening soon. I think the 3 of them Will need to be honest at least with each other to work through that crisis of public humiliation. At this point.
It looks like there may be 2 scendles, and maybe more.If there is a scandal around the parent’s death. Two brothers dating the same woman and one of those brothers having a gay partner. Big scoop.
I did not want to think of the older brother as selfish. But his motivations are selfish Not that there is any other straightforward path for him. AJ and the younger brother are both thinking about not wanting to hurt others. They are both keeping a secret from the other that the other already knows because of their loyalty to the older brother.
Interesting scene where she tells him how disgusting he is to be telling her.He likes her when she is about to marry his brother. That is all an act But she lets it slip that she does like him.
I could not help but think about” Mister sunshine” During the? independence Fighters scene and The trolley car scenes.
Fern
It seems that the jealous actress Hong Na Ri isn’t in this film, or at least isn’t in the scenes being shot, so she can’t sabotage AJ’s efforts. The director is the same one that was impressed by AJ’s horseback riding on a previous shoot. Doesn’t it make sense that this substitute role as an independence fighter will end up being AJ’s breakthrough role in her career?
Fern
Episode 8 spoilers below:
It’s like a circular lie. Everyone is lying and/or covering things up. Grandfather has been covering up for decades. CW is lying by omission to JH about her deal with his grandfather. AJ is lying to JH that she is painfully in love with DH. Aside from Grandfather, DH is perhaps the earliest liar by omission, because he never told his brother about his sexuality. JH is lying about DH because he won’t out his brother to anyone, not even a potential marriage partner. There isn’t one person who is without fault and they all stand to hurt each other.
CW is the closest to guessing the chemistry between JH and AJ. She will be furious and/or devastated.
I’m rather cross that there was no epilogue on episode 8, just a preview.
The only person in AJ’s family who might approve of a relationship with JH is little Jo Ji Oh, who thinks JH is cool for a grown-up.
My favourite quote this week: “You’re tall for no good reason.”
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Episode 8 ah hoc thoughts as I rewatch…
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.” – (As You Like It by William Shakespeare).
This sentiment and truth emerges (again?) in Ep 8. At the end of the acting gig, AJ admits to an admiring JH, that her acting job isn’t all there is … “just living is acting too”. And he admits: “Right, we are all acting. I’m acting a lot too.”
AJ: “Is it going well?”
JH says he’s not and that he found out something he shouldn’t have. AJ says she feels the same. That she’s trying to pretend that she’s fine but it’s hard.
AJ: “False acting is bound to fall apart in the end.” So it’s not always true that one can ‘Fake It Til One Makes It’. It will take its toll on basically honest people.
I laughed when JH hears that AJ has taken on a job to fill a hole. JH mistakes this to think she’s really going to do manual labour LOL. His boyish naivete is surprising at times. However he meets a real boy, Ji Oh (that cute terror of a child who might sell all his toys and all family secrets to JH now!!!) who quickly loses naivete over what can be bought and sold!
With bought info see that JH is back to being the meticulous executor of another plan. He’s done his research in a surprisingly short space of time and knows the crew on the set of AJ’s filming site. He’s gotten on everyone’s good books by bringing in food for them. He’s even got AJ’s photo plastered onto the food packages to promote her. He is successful in making AJ waver once again.
I find that it’s ironic that AJ has returned to acting on a film set to take a break from acting in her role as DH’s gf. She gets away in order to re-commit to the contract and her friendship, but each time she makes up her mind, JH pops up to sway her.
AJ is playing the role of a freedom fighter. She can run and shoot her way out to gain freedom, but she cannot get away from JH or thoughts of him. I like that in the interim, they both decide to take a break from acting, and to just be, at least for a little while.
Arihsi
Ooooo so good to read all your thoughts here. Welcome @monmor to the party… Hee hee. You guys are also eagle eyed to notice so many inundations such as the freedom fighter scene, acting to get away from acting, the Joeseon era king Won (tho I picked it up due to conversation with you on ep 7 @good twin !)…
It’d be soooo awesome if she gets a breakthrough role @fern to stand on her own feet. Also nice that the real director of this drama remembered to keep the same “acting” director😁
Thank you to all BoDers here to add so much to my viewing pleasure !
I was very one-track when watching and that kind of spoilt the pleasure of all these other tiny details. I couldn’t look past the lie they’re all hiding. I agree with @monmor that at least for AJ and JH, there seems to be some component of avoiding hurting others but ya. Also the proportion of the scandal 🙈
Janey
Hello @monmor! Happy to have you join us here! I also see “Mr Sunshine” or “Chicago Typewriter” vibes on her kdrama shooting. AJ really has a stalker and fanboy! Now I figure why there are guns on the OST banner!
@Arihsi – after watching ep8, now I get why you are adamant that AJ should come clean to JH. After that kiss and the preview of them as lovey-dovey couple, I’m with you. There is no dilemma, DH will be hurt regardless. AJ and JH should be up the ante on bravery and honesty. They have lots of enemies lurking and taking photos! Scandal waiting to happen.
@GB – it’s ironic that to escape acting in life, AJ goes acting on a show. Acting in life is really lying that’s why it’s tiring. While acting as a job is an honest work. I hope to see a future that JH will be CEO and AJ as actress (he will support her career), married with 2 kids.
@Goodtwin – looks like I am a kdrama watcher since I understand the reference on Lee Bang Won! LOL! I like that sequence, too. AJ jealous of CW’s honesty – CW can lay claim on JH while she cannot.
Janey
What can I say about the kiss? It’s not the prettiest- AJ is all red eyed and crying and she is an ugly cryer (just like us humans). 😛
I like that she kissed him first. The heavy sigh of surrender she made before kissing him was good acting. JH was a bit shocked. AJ looking raw and vulnerable, “I’ve gone a bit crazy because of you”. JH held her face and his kiss was appropriate for his age and experience (I assume he did not have a gf before) – it was gentle. He was keen on looking at her reaction and touching her cheek, maybe asking “is this real?”.
I didn’t have high expectations and it’s ok. but at least they are not drunk!
Janey
Going against trope – the first kiss has no cherry blossoms, no sunset, sunrise, no fireworks, beach setting. It’s on the street near a kids park. Very simple.
Fern
Good morning. Yes to all comments above. AJ just couldn’t keep denying either – couldn’t keep lying about her feelings. Yes, they should just explain things to each other, but neither wants to out DH. I suspect that it will be outsiders who will force their hand.
@Arihsi, you are so correct that there are multiple scandals: simultaneous relationships with two brothers, homosexuality in the family, the car accident, plus the secondary scandals of AJ’s family’s hopes and expectations, CW’s aspirations and almost certain loss of face, given that she has made intentions very clear (except about her deal with Grandfather). Oh my goodness, I’m glad she wasn’t specific with her father, because that could destroy the friendship between the families.
What can our main cast do to clear this up and continue to live well? For a change, I can’t imagine how this will be resolved with the least amount of damage, except to those who deserve it. The conflict between all characters is so well balanced at this point – nothing has been resolved or any boxes ticked.
Monmor
Very good point above. How can this be resolved Without damage to our key characters. Maybe the grandfather will step in? As others have wondered and some dialogue has suggested.Perhaps the grandfather does know about his grandchild’s orientation. I do not think the grandfather’s advice that power will put him Above the possibility of damage. To me it’s more like I puts him in line for danger.
Was there a bridge where they first kissed? I am watching some other dramas.Concurrently and I did see a bridge recently and remember having the thought of the bridge being a trope for connection.
agdr03
Hi all! I haven’t seen episode 8 but I’m hoping to catch up by tomorrow if not tonight.
@Fern! You made me laugh with more than half naked JH! Dang indeed! LOL!
Hopefully the kiss scene will increase in heat with the last remaining 4 episodes!!!
Monmor
I thought it was pretty funny and apropos that her family called her a gamecock./
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Hi @MM, what, was there another animal reference that I missed? When did her family call her a gamecock? It is a good description of her though.
Yes, they did meet on a bridge in an earlier episode. A connection and a meeting each other halfway.
@agdr03, I actually felt the kisses were right for the mood and the situation. They were an admission of truth, not so much done out of passion. And it was not exactly a happy occasion since they knew that they were going to cause a myriad others pain and confusion.
Episode 8 brings up the issue of bravery, honesty, greed and whether DH was selfish and thoughtless of others.
WRT to the latter… I believe it’s only in this episode that DH mentions to AJ out on the terrace that he wondered if others would get hurt. Yes I agree with other comments that said JH and AJ were the ones more concerned about not hurting DH, and he is only now considering whether maybe he’s going to cause others harm. He should have guessed so the minute they had to have a family meeting. The lies to family would hurt AJ and all her family, but he’s been pretty self-absorbed and intent on hiding.
As to greed, CW gets encouragement from her dad to just go for what she wants, JH admits that his greed has caused the current situation, and AJ’s sister tells her that it’s ok to be shameless and greedy and be happy.
On to honesty and bravery (or cowardice). Chae Won is still the most honest in expressing her feelings and thoughts. She did hide her deal with Grandpa but otherwise she’s bravely confronting obstacles and pursuing what she wants.
JH has been quicker in being self-aware and took steps first to confront his brother and then to acknowledge his feelings for AJ. He risked a lot in both relationships but bravely went ahead to be honest. AJ at first continued to act like the affronted sister-in-law, but finally decided to be honest as well.
DH remains the main coward. And those who express themselves most honestly are the nasty characters, who are easy to dislike and put aside.
@Fern, I agree that the conflict is well set up and balanced. Every decision and each truth will hurt someone. Now that Reporter Kang is on the right track, I expect poor brother-in-law to be most upset by his LJ stock losses, as scandal hits the press. 🙂
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Instead of being on a bridge for the kiss scene, our characters are on a road, and overlooking the city at night. They certainly have a long road to walk, either backwards or forwards, and many unseen obstacles to navigate, and just as they had taken a break from acting after the filming, they took a break now from pretending, to be the most honest in their exchange of kisses.
Monmor
@GB When the female lead Move back home there is a scene where they call her a gamecock. I can’t remember more precisely than that. I am thinking I may re watch episode eight.
Fern
@Monmor, are you watching on Viki? As I recall that is the accurate for their subs.
@GB, if your subs are different, I wonder what do they say instead? I can’t get on the other app suggested by @Arihsi.
Fern
@GB, I wondered if the greed AJ mentions is only about money. I thought it was a bit of double-speak referring to her thoughts and feelings towards JH as well. If only it were solely financial greed as her sister believed.
Good Twin
@everyone so much fun to read all these comments. You’ve convinced me there was more to this episode than I originally thought. The trolly scene reminded me of the storyline of the second ML’s lost love in Korean Odyssey. I haven’t watched Mr. Sunshine or Chicago Typewriter. I like how this drama plays with tropes and other dramas like Business Proposal.
We learned in the first episode that AJ hates dishonesty and yet she is lying to everyone. She is finally being honest with herself. I look forward to seeing how the writer unmuddles the chaos.
Old American Lady (OAL)
I gotta watch this. From the comments here I’m having a FOMO moment. Thanks @packmule3 for this fun thread.
Janey
@Fern – the greed AJ mentioned is more than money. She wants to protect DH and like JH, she cannot have it all. when her sister said she and BIL were greedy, AJ chided her sister that she should have been greedier! LOL!
Can the scandals be contained within just the families? I think some can. The public does not know who DH is really gonna marry so if AJ and JH get together, unless reporter leaks it. DH being gay, he does not have to be outed publicly if the ex shuts up and the reporter does not find out. From preview, the reporter took photos of JH and AJ kissing, granddaughter is stirring the conflict by showing it to DH. The death of their parents and who was the cause of the accident – this involved the reporter as well. A lot depends on this dang reporter!
Janey
Hi @OAL! We would love you to join us on this fun kdrama. Looking forward to your posts. Cheers!!!
Old American Lady(OAL)
Hi @Janey, This drama also looks interesting because we have a gay character that we don’t generally see in K Dramas
I am curious to see how they handle this character because zi guess cultural norms areotr conservative in zd
Korea, (just thinking that divorce and single parenthood are still somewhat controvesial. I would hope that the subject is treated sensitively. I think that gay issues are segregated into BL dramas. I’ve actually watched them and find the kissing scenes to be farore erotic. I suspect that heterosexual scenes may omglame thoughts of out-of-wedlock pregnancies(the single parenthood issue). I also did a little “research” and learned that the primary BL viewers are women.
Good Twin
@OAL and @Monmor – the more the merrier. This has been a fun drama made more so by these threads. There is a lot to unpack! Happy watching!!
Fern
@Janey, I had the feeling that if Grandfather does explain things to Seung Ah, and the person behind the accident that killed her mother was her father (as has been theorised here), she would be desperate to break her contract with the reporter to keep her father’s name clean and clear. I don’t know if this will happen or not. Just a thought. And the reporter will not go along with her unless his name is cleared.
Good Twin
@Fern and @Janey – isn’t the father the mayor of Seoul or former mayor of Seoul or some such? There are so many chaebol dramas lately I may have confused it with another show. Grandfather is paying the reporter off to protect someone – perhaps he thinks he is protecting DH and JH – that speech he gave to DH was fairly heavy handed on the “protection” theme. I think he may think he is protecting the kids when he is actually protecting the husband/father of the oldest children. This drama has been fairly consistent sticking with the same constellation of characters that have already been introduced – so the baddie is going to be someone we know not someone new. The father who was pretty awful for the short period of time we saw him seems the likeliest choice in addition to the reporter practically saying so in the conversation with SA.
@OAL – I know it is unusual to have a gay character in mainstream k dramas – I think I’d give it a B in how they are representing the character so far. If I were a fantasy screenwriter I might flesh out DH’s character a bit more and be less opaque about the consequences of him being outed. They nibble around the edges. They also have the character of an ex who appears to be stalking him which kind of plays into kdrama tropes e.g. My Lovely Liar. My understanding is that in the webtoon the DH character really was not central to the story at all and existed mostly off page – I don’t know since i haven’t read it.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@Fern, the subs I had never mentioned an animal (let alone a gamecock!) only that AJ was strong and a great fighter, and that she’d likely win any battle. However, I agree that she has the natural attitude of one ready to spar if needed, especially in the cause of right.
As is my wont, at Ep 8 or thereabouts, I go back to watch Ep 1 and 2 to see what I’ve forgotten.
Looking Back
Already in Ep 2, when both AJ and JH are drunk in the ‘taxi’ driven by Sec Kim and with Grandpa in front listening to their drunken talk, we find that JH asked AJ if she thought he was cute. He tells her not to fall for him. This means he was already interested in her and wanting to know if she liked him shortly after they’d met each other.
By the end of Ep 2, we find a scene reminiscent of the one we get at the end of Ep 8. It looks like a foreshadowing of sorts, with a twist. They are on the Han Bridge (I think) and he speaks with her about the ‘nepotism’ he’d got her into. She hits him and pushes him angrily in the same way as Ep 8, but this time it’s for making her hate herself. She walks off and returns to turn the tables on JH by calling DH and agreeing to marry him. In Ep 8 she walks off and returns to hit and push poor JH but ends up kissing him instead. Interesting parallel huh? 🙂
Janey
@Goodtwin – yes, the dad was mayor of Seoul, maybe that’s why there was a cover up of the accident.
@GB – great observation! ep 2 and 8 endings are similar and AJ hates herself in both scenes: ep 2 for wanting to secure that acting role and for ep8 for admitting her feelings for him thru the kiss. BTW, I concur with you on the kiss, being right for the mood and the characters.
Fern
@Growing Beautifully, yes, the circular writing is great. I really loved when JH told AJ that he loved her painfully, echoing what she said about DH. It took her a few minutes to process his statement and what it meant for her. Both of those ending scenes were so memorable.
Fern
@Good Twin, I also agree that we don’t get the whole picture with DH. It’s good that the drama has made him a major character, but the viewer isn’t shown the social, familial and personal reasons why he feels as he does. Perhaps we will get more of a window into his reasoning later.
I can guess something of DH’s feelings because discussions about sexuality reveals are common here in the media, literature, workplace education etc. Could it be a cultural difference in SK? Are they mostly familiar with being gay through media like the TV show ‘Hong SeokCheon’s Jewelry Box’? That show is very OTT yet not universally representative, imo.
agdr03
Waaaaaaa! I just finished watching epi-8 and it was another good episode.
Firstly, the kiss in the end was good! That admission sealed with a kiss. @Janey, I agree that AJ did an ugly cry but I thought her swollen red eyes really showed how torn she was after hearing JH confessed to her. 🙂
I’m glad AJ finally acknowledged that she might like JH at the beginning of the episode, she asked herself ‘what can we do now if we like each other?’. She was already thinking of all her lies and she kept hearing things like ‘let’s trust AJ’ and ‘I’m lucky I have you AJ’. So her role as a freedom fighter was really her thinking of ways to get her freedom.
Secondly, my gosh, my poor JH. I just want to give him a hug. 🙁 He must have felt so sad when he thought AJ just walked out on him and he won’t be able to stop the wedding. I really want to know why he’s not accepted by Grandpa. That looking into your soul look when he was confessing to AJ, geesh, if you can’t see how much he likes her then you’d have to be blind.
Thirdly, I hope CW and the ex will just step away quietly. I think the siblings, Grandpa’s secret and DH’s secret are enough scandal to cover in the last 4 episodes.
Last but not the least, thank you Ladies for the insights. It’s been awesome. 🙂
Arihsi
Ladies ! I present to you… An unexpected preview of what’s to come next !
Also… Please note that from 0.16 onwards, JH has nice, well combed hair and a very casual style. Like we expected, he’s at ease, happy and anxiety free. ❤️
P.S. please tell him Ah Jong-a.
Arihsi
The new preview is a twisting of troupes as @Fern points out on other occasions in the drama !
agdr03
Thanks for the preview @Arihsi 🙂
I can’t wait for Monday because AJ and JH will have some happy times together. Let’s see what will unfold.
All of a sudden I want my weekend to finish faster because of this drama and QOT. hahaha
Monmor
I am back. I am not getting email. So I need to sort that out.
@Fern Yes I am watching on vicki.
Arihsi
@agdr03 you are most welcome. This preview gave me hope that this drama may handle the conflicts differently ? AJ looks radiant on her wedding day and in characteristic AJ style !
Janey
Thank you @Arihsi for the preview! Can’t believe we only have 2 weeks left (4 eps). I’ve been looking for videos and BTS but not a lot with English translation. This kdrama is underrated. I hope it gets in streaming sites like Netflix later to get more viewership.
@agdr03, @fern, @monmor, @gb, @arihsi – see you Monday!!! Can’t wait!
Yes, the weekend already starts to feel a bit long because I’m waiting for the next episodes. At least we’ll get some sweet couple times before the sh*t hits the ceiling (and the fan!! LOL).
Arihsi
I agree @Janey… But I think they’ve done much better than even TvN’s expectations! That’s why the surprise promotion with 2nd preview to pique audience curiosity! It’s ratings aren’t too bad domestically (some of PMY’s earlier works have done worst) and in spite of not being on any streaming platforms, no top actors, a very young ML and an action actor FL, an obviously limited budget… It has attracted attention ! I hope both ML, FL and the production team get more opportunities post this drama ❤️
Arihsi
It brings me to another April drama… Lovely runner with first time lead role ML (he’s very handsome in his own way), a second time only lead role FL (I think she’s a capable actress), first time independent director (co-director of Flower of evil – one of my favourite dramas… Our queen doesn’t approve of it due to illegal stuff shown in it) and second time only writer !
Such fresh minds on the job…it’s nowhere on international streaming sites but the trailers look very promising. I think ML of this drama looks fresh and convincing of being an idol in posters and promos. The height difference is absolutely ridiculous but somehow the whole thing has grown on me. Can you believe it ? She manages to look adorable.
They also have the opportunity to adress cyber bullying and mental health- I don’t think that’s the central premise but could be included.
Janey
Hi @Arihsi, what is the title of this April drama?
Fern
@Good Twin, opening pitch to the Dodgers? That is hilarious. I wish there was a video as well as a photo. I’ll have to check YouTube.
Good Twin
@Fern it even made the NY Post! Mostly because the players were certainly giving her a lot of attention🙄 I guess the video went viral. Fun to see all the Korean celebrities that showed up for this preseason series.
Fern
I had no idea that she spoke English, too. Here she is on Psick Univ.
Good Twin
Ok that kiss that I was meh on seems a lot hotter slowed down and up close. 🪭🪭🪭https://www.soompi.com/article/1643799wpp/4-times-jeon-jeong-seo-wanted-to-stop-lying-1-time-she-did-in-episodes-7-8-of-wedding-impossible
@Fern her English is really good. Poor thing looked so nervous though I thought she might pass out. Makes her throwing out that first pitch all the more impressive as she must have been nervous
Janey
Thanks @Fern on the YT link! Yay, now she has the role she wanted in a kdrama romcom. She seems so introverted and shy even, her English is really good. I watched “Nothing Serious” and it was fun and sexy movie. Her comment that Son Sukku is getting old made me guffaw! Her English screen name is Rachel which reminded me of “Rachel and Samantha” in Business Proposal. LOL!!!
@GoodTwin – that was a good write up from Soompi. Thanks for sharing, the kiss gifs deliver the goods. So happy the show is topping the ratings!
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Thanks @Good Twin, that was a pretty good write-up at Soompi.
At the moment DH is looking selfish and cowardly. I trust that he’ll come around to redeeming himself.
Watching the characters agonising over the lies or the unknowns, it’s going to be such a relief seeing them happy, at peace and more truthful towards each other.
Arihsi
Helluuu @Janey… The drama is called “Lovely Runner”. It’s stars Byeon Woo-seok (strong girl nam soon villan that people fell in love with) and Kim Hye-yoon from extraordinary you.
It’s based on a webnovel but apparently the webnovel/webtoon have seasons and only the first one is released. People of the Internet are begging TvN to not kill off the ML this time.

In the glitzy realm of stardom, Ryu Seon Jae shines as a top-tier celebrity, captivating the spotlight since his debut. The “utterly exhausted” part because at the in the original story, the characters commits suicide. They might change it like they did for MMH. The girl time travels but is 1) entirely unsure of what to do to prevent his death so many years later. 2) can’t permanently stay in warped time and continue the timeline since then unlike MMH. She must return to the future.
I think being overly comfortable with an online forum is a problem. I write on BoD when when I’m very sleepy. Corrections in the previous post on “Lovely Runner”.
*in the original story
*CharacteR commits suicide not characterS. Only ML. FL is wheelchair bound in the present due to an accident.

*EVEN when not when when.
I should stop now. Buona notte!
Janey
Thank you @Arihsi! I like the ML, he was in “20th Century Girl”. I have not seen the FL in any drama. I will try to see it when it comes out.
Good Twin
I like that actor too – he was the second ML in Record of Youth and unlike his character whose acting career stagnated, irl his career has really taken off.
Thinking about that Soompi article and the reference to the daughter whom the chairman is overlooking – I am wondering if there will be a satisfying answer. She is engaging in despicable behavior but even so it is not hard to feel some sympathy for her. She seems like a character that could be forgiven in the end. I’m wondering if it is because of her father that the chairman has decided she is not a worthy successor or does she remind him of his daughter?
Arihsi
@Janey and @good twin we all like the ML ! How nice !
@good twin I’m excited to see how they resolve conflicts on so many levels wrt WI.
agdr03
@Arihsi, let’s hope the drama will solve our issues nicely. 🙂 AJ looks gorgeous in that wedding scene. I love her all out smile there. Hopefully it’s the real wedding with the right man.
Lovely Runner definitely looks interesting. I will see because I wanted to start this cdrama called Guess Who I Am. 🙂
@Fern, thank you for that YT link. It was funny how they noticed her unsmiling face and was teaching her how to smile. She reminds me of myself. LOL!
I can’t believe we are down to our last 4 episodes. See you all Ladies tomorrow!
Fern
@Welmaris had mentioned AJ’s rbf to me and her view has been confirmed. 😄 But those guys’ banter is relentless and sometimes close to the edge. When one of them was praising her rapid rise to fame and saying it was due to her being smart/clever, she snapped back, “Are you mocking me?” She has been openly dating a film director and I think she perceived that he may have been alluding to nepotism.

@GB at 23:26 her father calls her a gamecock episode 8
Thank you!!!
No, no kisses yet. 🙂
How are you?
We are having a blast watching this drama @PM3! Great dialogues, steady pacing, hilarious situations and OST is catchy. I hope we get a good kiss soon! You can count on @agdr03 and I to keenly watch out for this. LOL!
Hope your trip went well and with minimal jetlag.
Hi @Janey and @GB 🙂
Yes, my eagle eye won’t let those kisses go by without mentioning it here. LOL.
Hopefully we won’t have too much angsty with the ex of DH, Chaewon and the siblings.
Has to be*
I’m loving this drama @pm3 and enjoying so much with the BoD gang here ! I’m waiting for the kisses and but I’d love to see some warm hugs before that ! JH really needs some TLC.
The paper cranes ! 🥺

Thank you, @packmule3. This drama has been so much fun.
@Arihsi, thank you for the link. I can’t wait to see it in the drama.
@Arihsi, even if you were incorrect, I could never call you crazy. Inspired, creative, imaginative or inclusive wrt other dramas perhaps. 😉 But I know that you are data driven, so being able to provide a confirmation was a pleasure for me.
Episode 7
Oh golly wow! Now that’s what I call a great way to make the wedding impossible. Of course. Why didn’t I think of that! Watch the epilogue.
Ugh not AJ.. JH! JH made the comment.
@Good twin I think it can also refer to the fact that grandpa wants to give the company to DH although he’s neither able not interested just because he’s the eldest. Grandpa behaves as if JH doesn’t exist.
There is also a reference to another parable involving Hong Gil Dong! I love this show!!
It’s not really a parable, it is a novel and the character is really significant in Korean culture.
Could you explain a bit more reg the parable please @good twin ? I’m all 👂. I’ve missed the reference!
Wow that ending scene was very reminiscent of “The Graduate”. I was expecting them to get on a bus.
From what reporter said to older sister I think it will be revealed that the father of the oldest children was behind the accident that killed mother and her lover.
Or is JH not really Grandfather’s shame, but has to appear so to salvage the situation? A true scapegoat?
I found JH’s references to classic Korean stories which feature the second son overcoming rigid family hierarchy to be interesting, self aware, and perhaps a foreshadowing.
@Janey I think there has only been a couple of epilogues. This one was a doozy. I’m glad he pulled her away in the final dress – that jeweled long sleeve one made her look like a matron.
I look forward to tomorrow’s episode and seeing how the first kiss comes about after the big reveal. Does he think he is saving her or does he intend to confront her?
@Janey he refers to the “swallow with the broken leg” when his is talking to CW on the balcony. Here is link to wikipedia entry on the Korean folktale involving the two brothers and the swallow with a broken leg. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heungbu_and_Nolbu?wprov=sfti1#The_story_of_Heungbu_and_Nolbu
Howdy all!
LOL!
Correction, from rewatching, it’s when JH calls AJ sister-inlaw, that’s when she feels heavy in her chest because her heart is rejecting it but she doesn’t know it yet. 🙂
Thank you for the detailed explanation @Good Twin. Please accept virtual 🍪 to have with your beverage of choice 😁
Please.
Both my previous comments are wrt ep 8. Sorry if I caused confusion! 56.00 to 58.00 timestamp of ep 8!
@arihsi – what a dilemma for AJ. She will betray either brother if she keeps quite (JH) or comes clean (DH). Ottoke?
I have not watched ep8 yet. ☺️
Going against trope – the first kiss has no cherry blossoms, no sunset, sunrise, no fireworks, beach setting. It’s on the street near a kids park. Very simple.
I thought it was pretty funny and apropos that her family called her a gamecock./
@GB When the female lead Move back home there is a scene where they call her a gamecock. I can’t remember more precisely than that. I am thinking I may re watch episode eight.
@Monmor, are you watching on Viki? As I recall that is the accurate for their subs.
@GB, if your subs are different, I wonder what do they say instead? I can’t get on the other app suggested by @Arihsi.
@GB, I wondered if the greed AJ mentions is only about money. I thought it was a bit of double-speak referring to her thoughts and feelings towards JH as well. If only it were solely financial greed as her sister believed.
I gotta watch this. From the comments here I’m having a FOMO moment. Thanks @packmule3 for this fun thread.
Hi @OAL! We would love you to join us on this fun kdrama. Looking forward to your posts. Cheers!!!
@OAL and @Monmor – the more the merrier. This has been a fun drama made more so by these threads. There is a lot to unpack! Happy watching!!
@Growing Beautifully, yes, the circular writing is great. I really loved when JH told AJ that he loved her painfully, echoing what she said about DH. It took her a few minutes to process his statement and what it meant for her. Both of those ending scenes were so memorable.
Ladies ! I present to you… An unexpected preview of what’s to come next !
https://youtu.be/eo7e9eKLQcs?si=dLmbRIQgWnLjW4Ib
Also… Please note that from 0.16 onwards, JH has nice, well combed hair and a very casual style. Like we expected, he’s at ease, happy and anxiety free. ❤️
P.S. please tell him Ah Jong-a.
The new preview is a twisting of troupes as @Fern points out on other occasions in the drama !
Thanks for the preview @Arihsi 🙂
I can’t wait for Monday because AJ and JH will have some happy times together. Let’s see what will unfold.
All of a sudden I want my weekend to finish faster because of this drama and QOT. hahaha
I am back. I am not getting email. So I need to sort that out.
@Fern Yes I am watching on vicki.
@agdr03 you are most welcome. This preview gave me hope that this drama may handle the conflicts differently ? AJ looks radiant on her wedding day and in characteristic AJ style !
Thank you @Arihsi for the preview! Can’t believe we only have 2 weeks left (4 eps). I’ve been looking for videos and BTS but not a lot with English translation. This kdrama is underrated. I hope it gets in streaming sites like Netflix later to get more viewership.
@agdr03, @fern, @monmor, @gb, @arihsi – see you Monday!!! Can’t wait!
Is that her wedding or is she now getting acting roles? We will see! By the way did anyone see the pictures of the this actress throwing out the first pitch at the Dodger baseball game? She got a lot of attention for her outfit and curves!! Did not even look like the same person. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/mlb/article-13220801/Jeon-Jong-seo-South-Korean-actress-Dodgers-pitch.html
Thanks @Good Twin and @Arihsi.
Yes, the weekend already starts to feel a bit long because I’m waiting for the next episodes. At least we’ll get some sweet couple times before the sh*t hits the ceiling (and the fan!! LOL).
Hi @Arihsi, what is the title of this April drama?
@Good Twin, opening pitch to the Dodgers? That is hilarious. I wish there was a video as well as a photo. I’ll have to check YouTube.
@Fern it even made the NY Post! Mostly because the players were certainly giving her a lot of attention🙄 I guess the video went viral. Fun to see all the Korean celebrities that showed up for this preseason series.
I had no idea that she spoke English, too. Here she is on Psick Univ.
Ok that kiss that I was meh on seems a lot hotter slowed down and up close. 🪭🪭🪭https://www.soompi.com/article/1643799wpp/4-times-jeon-jeong-seo-wanted-to-stop-lying-1-time-she-did-in-episodes-7-8-of-wedding-impossible
@Fern her English is really good. Poor thing looked so nervous though I thought she might pass out. Makes her throwing out that first pitch all the more impressive as she must have been nervous
Summary –
In the glitzy realm of stardom, Ryu Seon Jae shines as a top-tier celebrity, captivating the spotlight since his debut. Despite the facade of a perfect life, the demanding nature of the entertainment industry has left him utterly exhausted. Im Sol, an ardent admirer, holds an affectionate love for Ryu Seon Jae. A childhood accident derailed her dreams, yet the solace found in Ryu Seon Jae’s music on the radio transformed her into an unwavering fan.
The narrative takes a poignant turn when Im Sol, reeling from the breaking news of Ryu Seon Jae’s tragic demise, experiences a miraculous twist of fate. Transported back 15 years into the past, she confronts Ryu Seon Jae in his 19-year-old high school self. Im Sol grapples with the formidable challenge of altering the trajectory of his future, driven by an unyielding determination to avert the impending tragedy.

Corrections –
I think being overly comfortable with an online forum is a problem. I write on BoD when when I’m very sleepy. Corrections in the previous post on “Lovely Runner”.
*in the original story
*CharacteR commits suicide not characterS. Only ML. FL is wheelchair bound in the present due to an accident.
Corrections #2
*EVEN when not when when.
I should stop now. Buona notte!
Thank you @Arihsi! I like the ML, he was in “20th Century Girl”. I have not seen the FL in any drama. I will try to see it when it comes out.
@Janey and @good twin we all like the ML ! How nice !
@good twin I’m excited to see how they resolve conflicts on so many levels wrt WI.
