Thanks @pkml3! I watched on into Ep 6 and then could not stop. It was still so compelling even as a rewatch. I suddenly realised how much I’d forgotten and recalled why I like this show so much, and found reasons to like it even more!
Hi, thanks. I’ll be here if all is ok.
My internet connexion has troubles again, and I got short cuts yesterday.
Hi @WE, I really hope your Internet holds up. I had a bit of a scare yesterday. My router needed to be re-initialised or something. Anyway, after several anxious minutes, I had Internet again.
See you in 6 minutes!
I’m here, cup of tea in hand! Do we watch the intro?
Hello. I am finally able to watch an episode! Coffee at the ready. Hi @Hana, @GB, @WE
Hi HN and GB.
For now it stands, I’m here and could post! 😉
I keep typing typos in my name or email! Anyway I am here.
Hi @Hana! Yes we watch the intro or resume, as @WE calls it. It’s a good reminder of what went on before. 🙂
Great @WE, we start NOW!!!
Hi @SD!!! Glad you can make it this weekend! Let’s begin …
Hi SD.
I started, but no resume today.
We got to see a squeltal.
Hello, let’s start!
Great, enjoying the resume 😀
The DR: “is it an old lover?”
(no answer, heroin goes away)
Small detail in dialog. 😉
haha reporting for first day of work
@SD, ah yes… we see SH eager to find out what skeleton forensics has this time. She never seems to tell the forensic pathologist whom she’s looking for. I guess she does not want to think that JH is dead and so won’t mention his name.
Hi FF.
More of the first encounter of FL and rudes guys of police. She’s a motivated rookie! military salute. 🙂
Hi @FF, @WE, @GB, @Hana. No more trips for the next few weeks!
I had forgotten about SH checking on the unidentified bodies.
Hi @FF!
I like all the backstory of SH with JH. SH is so cute to begin with. The only lady in that department and all the way through to 2015 from the looks of it. I think she joins the police around 1994-1995.
LOL they guys have to scramble to get her a night duty room LOLOL.
@WE, she is a motivated rookie policewoman who loves pink.
The rude guys are quite nice with her.
But I bet JH won’t be! 😀
Well, he will be, but not so quickly.
@Hana, I like how SH met JH … wonder how she got so smitten by him. He looks such a mess!!! And so loud and bossy.
SH states (loudly) that she is joining them on September 1, 1995.
@GB Yes that’s a pretty unconventional meet-cute!
@WE @FF
I like how the SH we see is so much colder and more professional than when she was a rookie, but that her penchant for pink (and pink fluffly jammies LOL) remains. It gives us a hint of what she’s like on the inside despite what she shows on the outside.
@GB, yeah he’s bossy, but still says something true about criminals doesn’t care it’s man or woman. And also doesn’t want a woman plays the princess here (what’s was on the way to happens). 😉
HI @GB, in the last re-watch you mentioned that the first 2 episodes gives closure to Hae Young’s concern, episode 3 & 4 gives Jae Han closure to Won Kyung’s death. I wonder if episodes 5 & 6 will provide closure to Soo Hyun concern over Jae Han’s disappearance.
@SD, I always found the military-like style of shouting one’s name, rank and presence a bit much, but it seems to be required of all uniformed officers.
@Hana, at least in that meet-cute, both of them were cute in some way LOLOL. Loved his messed up hair.
The puffy eye cop isn’t a bad guy huh, I thought he is when I first saw him.
@FF, actually no to getting closure for JH’s disappearance in Ep 5 and 6. We have to keep watching.
The Section Leader Ahn is actually not a bad guy per se, but he is forced to do things that go against his principles.
@FF, the actor has a face screaming:
“I can only be a bad guy”. 🙂
I love how the actress, Kim Hye Soo can pull off the wide-eyed recruit and the world-weary old-timer.
@WE, you always give humorous replies. lol.
@SD I agree!
well-deserved awards for the team, albeit perhaps not well-intended
@SD, yes… Kim Hye Soo was great in both personas so to speak. She could be such a girly girl and such a bad-a** cop and squad leader too.
I also like how the pacing is sometimes slow in the drama. The entire trip that new recruit SH takes to meet the squad leader, SH’s slow drip down the stairs after viewing the corpse, the slow pan back as PHY sits at his desk. Its a nice effect in this kind of drama, a nice pacing, when so much will be harried chases.
KH pretends it’s his profiler skills.
I like a lot the touchs of comedy in this show.
*trip down the stairs
@SD, yes, this series has a great mix of pacing. There will be slow episodes later, especially with backstory. Show really knows how to develop the relationships and so we can feel the pathos, joy, angst and understand the characters all the better.
@WE love the bravado
@WE, HY has to think fast because SH is on to him being shifty and that he’s lying. Can see the wheels in his head turning but he spouts up the only excuse he can which sounds inane. What profiling? LOL.
@GB, she can’t accept the truth for now. But at one point, she will know it’s communication through time. Just I don’t remember which episode. It’s > episode 8 for sure.
@SD, we now get a nice slow scene of the brothers together. We see their bond and what HY’s dear wishes are. LOL he asks questions based on the titles of naughty videos.
Oh Hae YOung estimated that walkie conversation lasted about a minute each time.
@WE, yes, much later than Ep 8. She never knew about the walkie talkie being with HY until later.
@FF, Yeah, one minute!
I don’t want to brag but. Ok, I just want. ahaha.
I said it in a previous rewatch. ahahahhahaha.
@FF, yes I heard HY say that, but when I sort of timed them… more like 3-4 minutes, some of them.
ahahahah great memory @WE
@WE, yes you were right about the fact that he said 1 minute… but I’ll time them when they turn up again. There were long pauses in between their conversations.
I’d like so much to eat their soups.
But today, I’ll just eat chicken with French fries. 🙂
Heheheh! JH takes a dump and does not wash his hands ewwwwww!
@HN, strangely, I always have a good memory for something I can brag about. 😀 😀 😀
@WE, you mean their stews and stuff that they eat with rice? All need to be eaten steaming hot with kimchi on the side LOL.
@WE, yes I remember you mentioning 1 minute but like @GB I checked the watch and the clocks in the previous episodes, and they work out to be like half an hour. I think Hae Young’s estimate is off… kekeke
The childs: the corpse is dead again. ahah!
@FF, you can’t beat an expert profiler. kkkkk.
When Oh Kyung Tae says that detectives and burglars are not that different, he was more right than we might have thought.
Contact is made again. Serious moment.
6 years later!!! 1995.
Soo Hyun in her pink outfit again, cute.
LOL I like the corpse in the pink jammies with a hoodie. She has JH’s notebook, while HY has JH’s walkie talkie …. interesting, huh?
JH, in short: time continuum goes to hell, we’ll just arrest the bad guys!!!!
That was definitely more than a minute…
I didn’t make some search about that, but I bet the collapse of this bridge is a real historical event.
@WE, I’m using my phone stopwatch to see how long their transmission is.
Hah they don’t know what to believe especially after 6 years for JH.
It has gone beyond 1 minute now. And I think I was watching at 1.5 times the speed so actually the transmission is much longer.
Stopwatch says it was more like 3 minutes and 35 seconds long.
@WE, yes there was a real bridge that collapsed over the Han River. I can’t find the name in my notes at the moment. The winds of change have blown paper over HY. I like that Show uses the winds of change quite consistently.
The guys cleaning the garbage can in police station: isn’t a known actor now? His face rings a bell.
@WE he’s Kim Min-Kyu, the 2nd ML in Business Proposal
@WE That actor is Kim Min-Kyu (1994)… He’s been quite busy in several dramas.
@GB snap!
@WE, he is the second ML in A Business Proposal.
SH is trying to catch HY out in his lies but he thinks so long and comes up with some insufficient answer LOL, … still SH just lets him off for now.
@HN, yeah! Snap or Hi-5!
The scene with Eun-Ji, her father, Oh Gyung Tae and JH eating dinner is so poignant knowing what is to come: their easy familiarity, Eun-Ji making the soup and insisting that JH eat it, the way both JH and OGT greet Eun-Ji so enthusiastically and try to shield her from the topic at hand (which she immediately understands).
The actor playing OGT is, Jung Suk Yong who is also the dead father in Marry My Husband
Among the things I like about the characters in this Show is how the negative Gye Chul and Hun Gi become enthusiastic members of the Cold Case Squad. They keep coming up with more cases they can solve but SH practically ignores them.
@SD, yes, very poignant. Kdramas are so good for these kinds of warm family scenes.
Jung Suk Yong plays so many nice dad roles … the time he plays a bad guy (can’t recall where) I had a hard time accepting it, but he pulled it off well.
One of the dramatic goal is to make KH profiler skills more than a joke, as all the cops today don’t believe it. + the bad cop punchs him in the face! aya!
+ good conflict dialogue with Soo Hyun.
The Show manages to bring in the cold case with the burglaries in 1995 at the same time to synchronise the case in 2015 that HY brings up, without it seeming to be overly contrived.
Superior at work can use violence on his subordinates?
@WE, yes that was a good conflict between the cops. We get to know the lack of trust, the dislike that HY has of the cops, the fact that SH still listens to HY… but as a newcomer to the group, it’s hard for him to be able to convince them. He would need to prepare a proper presentation to the boss first.
@FF, violence at work, especially among the police was very common in some places.
Good transition – from Oh’s daughter being burnt to death to another person’s daughter being left in a freezer truck to freeze to death.
For what I understand. For KH, calls on talkie walkies are always 23h23 (or 23hxx). But about JH, it can be anytime. During one minutes. (but cinematography sometime gives the illusion is a bit longer because it’s always like that in movies ahahahh).
I can’t stay longer, alas, and will look at the post tomorrow.
I’ve to go right now. Have a good night!
Another gripping episode!
Good of SH to teach him to respect the hierarchy/system to get things done
Anyway, the last transmission was 1 minute 35 seconds long.
Bye @WE!
Bye @WE
I found the name of the bridge… there really was a Seongsu Bridge disaster in 1994. This series is probably using that real event, since the year for JH is 1995 in this episode.
@salteddust
I ✅ this post. As you said, when you type your name or your email address incorrectly, the post goes to the To Be Moderated pile. 🤪 No worries. I’ve done it several times. I blame my manicure….💅
@WE yes indeed, Park Hae Young started the walkie talkie conversation at 23:23 in his time but it seems like daytime in Jae Han’s time. Bye.
@GB the conversation is about 1 minute 30 seconds according to the time stamp.
@FF, yes… by our time it’s always over a minute. I don’t think they were able to speak that fast and understand each other within 1 minute for some of the longer conversations that they had. 🤨😉😆
The magic of tv (and time travel!)
@packmule3: LOL, I do not even have a healthy manicure to blame! Insufficient caffeine perhaps.
@GB, After your comment I looked up that real-life bridge disaster. The photos on Wikipedia look the same as in this episode and there was a bridge that fell as well.
*bus that fell
