  1. Oooohh very nice! πŸ₯° Have a wonderful time, follow your joy! πŸ˜‰

Thank you for the early thread @pkml3! Nowadays I do online-travel. I’d like to enter those castles and palaces and it’s actually easier and likely more possible right from home through YT. πŸ˜†

@agdr03 that’s a good wish! Follow your joy indeed!!

  3. @GB, I’ll follow your online travel for now. πŸ˜‚

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@agdr03 come join me in a visit to Sanssouci!! LOL.

  5. I have been at Sanssouci often, just a few months ago I visited again. It is so beautiful and the gardens and atmosphere-lovely. Near the castle is another, much bigger one: the New Palace (neues Palais). I highly recommend that, virtual or real! Greetings from Germany

  6. Guten morgen, Lucy. My packed schedule doesn’t allow me to go to SS this trip. I’m at Frankfurt eating a frankfurter 🌭 though.

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hello @Lucy in Germany! I may have also done a virtual visit of the bigger New Palace! Once I started watching I got sucked into more palace tours LOL. I enjoyed the bits of history that came with the tours and the commentary on what it might have been like to have lived in those huge buildings centuries ago, especially in the Winter!!!

Have a great ‘sausage day’ @pkml3!

In preparation for Episodes 5 and 6, I’m FFing Ep 3 and 4. Something just hit me… the incongruity of those chaebol young people, dressed in full suits and high fashion, only to be bouncing around in the adult-kiddy playground.

It’s like they had to be dressed to the nines in order to get admittance to the Club and couldn’t even change into some more comfortable ‘playsuits’ before playing.

    = = =
It seems obvious that Prince Cha Min is deliberately baiting the girl he likes while denying it profusely. I LOLed over the conversation outside the Club where FL actually mentioned doing Kegel exercises! Sheesh. It was more than Cha Min expected since he was fishing for grateful thanks.

When she asks why he never told her that he was engaged, he asks (hopefully) if she was going to try her luck to bag him as her Prince if he wasn’t. He then makes the mistake of using ‘never’ ie that he’d never fall for her. Hah! Guess what happens by the end of Episode 4!

She also uses the word ‘never’ ie he’s a psycho and she’d never date a psycho. I liked that expression (chagrin?) on his face at her words.

    = = =
It’s telling that the self-portrait of Cha Min is more a portrait of his umbrella, since his face which should be the main event, is missing from the portrait altogether.

    = = =
It looks like Jae Rim is more a Cinderella in Prince Cha Min’s castle than she is at home where she can actually rest undisturbed. At the Club she has to do laundry under Cha Min’s watchful eyes.

    = = =
I applaud Show for using the falling on top of the guy trope to include and French lace curtain ‘bridal veil’ falling over Jae Rim’s head. Prince accuses her of trying to jump him but then he also helps to hang up the curtain for Jae Rin as well. That was a nice touch, and impressed Jae Rim as well.

    = = =
Jae Rim’s conversation with her sister Hwa Jin reflects the current attitude in S Korea where there’s no escape from drudgery except with wealth. However, while many want to marry upwards, it seems not many choose to marry their peers or have kids if they do, because of the high cost of living. JR’s Cinderella dream of marrying a Prince probably sounds more viable to the working masses than working their way out of their circumstances.

Yes, I know this is the Ep 5 thread, but I’m still on Ep 3, because here there are no risks of spoilers and what happens at Ep 3 may continue to have bearing on the later episodes.

Jae Rim gets entangled with sister, Soo Jin’s Not-a-BF Dr Gu. He speaks more like a shaman or money lender than a doctor, LOL, claiming he could tell she was there to ask for money because he was a doctor and could see that her eyes were that of a desperate debtor.

    = = =
We find that Jae Rim not only wants to marry a rich man, but wants him to be overflowing with love for her. She does not mention that she should love him back. She seems to think that only after she receives a great deal of love will she have a lot to offer. There’s a fallacy here (or more than one), but the Wish Fulfilling Lady does not point that out.

Jae Rim fails to see that she already has a lot to offer as she is. There was someone (Sang Chul?) who messaged her thanks for money she had sent. She has not cottoned on that it’s in the giving that she receives. She also fails to see that actually she is loved a lot already by her step-family and friend and even Cha Min.

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Before I start on Episode 5, I noticed the transition from Jae Rim’s conversation with Dr Gu who asked what her sister, Soo Jin would like. She observes how Soo Jin loves Mum and says as much to Dr Gu… and we transition to Cha Min removing dust covers in his hideaway home of his youth, and looking at a photo which we don’t get to see.

He remarks on the face in the photo, which shares a likeness with Jae Rim, and thinks he knows now why he is both drawn to her and can’t stand her at the same time. I’m assuming the photo is of his mother, whose image elicits bitter-sweet sentiments in Cha Min.

My conclusion: Jae Rim has a stepmum who is quite lovable, while Jae Rim looks like the mum of Cha Min whom he both loves and can’t stand.

We ended off with Cha Min more or less confessing that he likes Jae Rim (ie the wrongful encounter of mint chocolate) and getting slapped for it.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@agdr03, are you watching this? You’ll like Episode 5!!! LOL.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Episodes 5 and 6, (only soft-subbed still!!) give us a few, more sober moments as Cha Min and Jae Rim test crossing the line.

There are even sober moments with Ho Dong as we get a little of his backstory. Last episode it was Cha Min whose backstory was featured. Immediately characters with backstories become interesting and I start to get invested in them.

Regardless of what he may say, Cha Min cannot help communicating differently without words!

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I was actually amused, while I found it pathetic that Fiancee Dan Ah tried to calm her anger by calling out a litany of brand names. Her upbringing by a doting father and ‘uncles’ who gave in to her every whim have made her a Shrew and a brat.

  14. @GB I couldn’t watch it today but definitely tomorrow. πŸ˜€

I’m excited because you said I would like it. πŸ˜‰

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@agdr03, yup if you like show serving up the meeting of lips, you know. And quite a generous portion (47 seconds?!?), I must say. πŸ˜‰πŸ€ͺ🫣🀭😝

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Episodes 5 and 6, although there are no lost glass slippers (so far), I like that Show openly plays with Cinderella ‘stuff’ (ala Disney’s original cartoon Cinderella) with a mash-up of modern-day stuff … like the clock chiming (only 3 o’clock!) at the top of the stairs when Prince and Jae Rim come out of the ‘palace’ Club, or how we get a Fairy Godmother-Prince twist. And we have the makeover trope mashup with not the ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo’ spell but lots of money for magic.

  17. Thanks for the update @GB 😘

Unfortunately I couldn’t find time to watch it today because I had to do some late work. But hopefully tomorrow.

47 seconds of lips time? YEHEY! πŸ˜‚

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I was just thinking that the welcome party was based on the theme of ‘Unfortunate Encounter’ and Jae Rim really did have an unfortunate encounter with the entitled bratty friends of Dan A.

However she did have a pleasant encounter with Cha Min and his lips LOL.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We see in Episode 5 that after Cha Min gets slapped by Dan A, he covers Jae Rim with his jacket and takes her away from the gaze of the party goers. They enter his office where there’s a portrait of him on the left side of the door, like a knight in shining armour LOL… Well, he was that I do admit.

JR tells him to go to his fiancΓ©e since she was likely flustered after slapping him. He demurs and protests that he’s not in love with his fiancΓ©e who’s more like a business partner that he does not care about. However, he does take JR’s words to heart, and he does speak with Dan A because we see him following her out of the Club. This, and the fact that he told JR that he was more concerned about whether JR was okay or not, speaks volumes about how his heart is leaning.

Both he and his father (as seen from the hospital visit that he paid to his dad) are obviously helpless in the presence of a female they are attracted to. It seems both father and son were so attached to Cha Min’s mum that her leaving them has struck them both a serious blow. I’m guessing that as a result of the hurt that Mum caused them, they’ve decided to defend themselves against the lure of women by seeing them as lifeless rocks, LOL.

However for a guy who’s been trained by his father to ignore the wiles of females, Cha Min is utterly failing to live up to his training, or rather, maybe because Jae Rim did not use her wiles but told him outright that she was a Cinderella out to hook a rich husband, he was totally disarmed and let her walk right into his heart.

He is starting to make a delightful webtoon-style lover as we hit the halfway mark of this series.

  20. @GB, Cha Min’s lips encounter with Jae Rim was awesome! I will do a rewatch of episode 5 and 6. I liked the Cinderella in CH. πŸ™‚

I’m glad JR didn’t show to Dan A how upset she was when the latter said that Ch was just toying with her and instead said that he was a good kisser. JR did enjoy it. LOL!

I’m confused with Ho Dong. I would not meet him at all after the party incident. But is he gay? Is that what he meant when they were at his studio?

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@agdr03 Yup that kiss is worth a few rewatches LOL. Dan A was so pissed that JR got to experience the kiss when Dan A herself probably never had (and never will!).

I’m not too sure about Ho Dong as well. His brother was really mean, belittling him in front of his friend. Just because he wrote a BL novel may not mean that he’s gay, but it’s likely that he is or he’s bisexual. I was struck by the fact that he did mention that he likes JR. Either that is a lie or he is bisexual. I feel that his brother may be extorting money from him (blackmail?) and treating him with contempt because he is LGBTQ+

He did say that he was not going to be accepted by the other Club members if they knew about him or the BL novel, so it sounds like he’s not in the majority cisgender group.

We will have to watch what else happens to know how the Show is depicting his character.

  22. Yes, I wondered when Cha Min teased Ho Dong about having feelings for him, if it may’ve been closer to home than we thought.
The show is growing on me!
I find Dan A’s tantrums very amusing.

  23. Ep05 was so heavely boring.
All the clichΓ©s and even not out-of-the-box comedy.
Instead, the usual “shwiizz, woohp, ploop” anoying sound effects.
This drama is an empty shell. I stop wasting time on this. Dropped.

Hi @pkml3, if you see this and have your personal laptop handy, please open a thread for the Freaking Fairytale, Episodes 7 and 8.

I like that it’s coming together with more personal stories and important reveals to start the healing of woundedness.

    πŸͺπŸ₯›πŸ—πŸ₯’πŸ–πŸ«’πŸ₯“πŸ§‡πŸ›β˜•πŸπŸ΅πŸͺπŸ₯›πŸͺπŸ₯›

  25. Hi @GB I’ve watched episode 7-8 and it’s so true how we really just need to be honest instead of saying things but doing the opposite of what it means.

I like that we had a lot of scenes of our main leads. I think Ho Dong just became the fairy god mother for Jae Rim. πŸ™‚

I didn’t mind that we had a couple of angsty scenes, it’s good that it’s out now. It was good for Cha Min to finally let go of his protective umbrella.

I felt we didn’t need the scene of the sister and the doctor’s rapping after the proposal. LOL.

PS. I was laughing at the pulling of the bathrobe belt. Like, really? hahahhah

  26. I like the OST by Junny called Star. πŸ™‚

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @agdr03, I liked the same scenes as you. I’m glad Ep 7 and 8 have brought most of the stuff out into the open so that we can close with Ep 9 and 10 with some proper resolutions.

I guess more than one character needed healing… not only Cha Min (the pretend fairy godmother) but also Ho Dong (the more real fairy godmother?) and Jae Rim too.

I’m haven’t listened properly to the OSTs, but they’ve been generally pleasing to the ear.

I hope we get the Ep 7 and 8 thread soon so that we can write more without fear of spoiling the show on this thread. πŸ™‚

  28. @GB, I think it’s ok to put it here because it might only be a few of us commenting and wuri Queen can just transfer if she’s got time. πŸ™‚

We can just put spoiler alert. πŸ™‚
