Thanks @pkml3 and I’m just leaving a note to activate the notifications to myself!
GOOD morning all! I am back up to speed.
I watched this yesterday. The best AHA moments!
There are a few new comments from yesterday on last week’s thread, if anyonè is interested.
Hi @MM, yes Episode 8 started adding more twists and troubling ideas that compelled me to continue with Ep 9, etc. It seems that there are rather few ‘nice’ people in that bunch of resetters.
@GB I am up to speed and then some. I was actually commenting on episode nine above. I could not stop at eight either. I am watching On kocowa, where the number ring is for half hour episodes. So that is Catching Me up if I do not pay enough attention.
@MM In the end to fill up time while waiting I did pick up the Jdorama ‘Unmet’ and like it a lot. I’m emotionally invested and have been crying with the characters and even before the characters cry!!
I’ve got one more episode to go of ‘Unmet’.
It’s time now to start bringing up ‘365’ Ep 8.
Greetings! I have to work today, so ai am just stopping by to say hello. Enjoy the show!
Hi @Snow Flower! Hope you’re enjoying the watch on your own.
Okay it’s just about time on my clock. Let’s start now!
@GB I am wondering where you are watching unmet? I know I sent you some links but I was having trouble Connecting to one of them.
I think
It is on netflix somewhere in the world other than japan.
Hi GB, MM, SF!
@MM I use Dramanice which is free where I am. I get almost everything from there.
Hi @MM, @GB and @Snowflower. I did not get back up to speed on last week’s episode so will probably rewatch it on my own time, but am ready to start this morning.
Hello everyone, started.
Hi @WE! I’ve just started the re-watch of the re-watch. I still end up seeing new stuff each time I rewatch.
@GB TY
Hello WE SF
Hi @SD, you’re joining us this morning? That’ll be great!
Hi @FF! I’m 2:40 minutes in. Paused a bit here and there.
Omg, they found Serin in the manhole. That look on Serin’s face scares me.
Hi SD, FF.
@MM: to answer you from previous thread.
Here we’ll got an onion flashback about the girl death. Because previous time we saw here she was in a scene with lot of unknow after. So we’ll see that.
After the Flower lady’s death, this is about the next saddest one to me. Se Rin’s death… she was only 19 years old.
Hi @WE and @FF!
I will be in and out this morning so my comments will lag even more than usual.
Is @WE going to make comments on the scene where they found Serin?
Im at 9:28.
After accidentally watching episode nine rewatching episode eight which I watched two days ago or maybe yesterday seems very different!
@FF, Yes, poor Se Rin, as if she is looking at them accusingly even when dead.
Unlike the other deaths, Se Rin’s was clearly murdered. He even left Young Woong’s phone in the manhole with the dead Se Rin so that her body could be found. It’s strange though. He puts her in an out of the way place where a body would never be found, but at the same time he wants her to be found. Does this give a clue as to whom the killer is?
Here the scene I was talking about how it’s well made.
They find the corpse.
Looks how it’s made:
– Phone call.
– It answer in the sewer.
– ML looks with flashlight then open.
– Tension increase for FL, she comes to see.
– And only THEN we see the corpse with eyes widen open looking at FL.
So, the nasty surprise evolve from first step (phone call), increasing malaise, but taking care to show the dead girl ONLY when FL looks at her.
Hi @GB, @WE, @SD.
I was thinking that Se Rin’s mental illness makes her the type of person who creates the environment where she could really become the victim. She is like the boy who cried wolf and is ignored when her call for help was true.
Her choice of behaviour invited contempt and disdain from the people who could have/should have helped her. The worst offender is her own Psychiatrist who knew what was going to happen but let it happen anyway. No sympathy, no empathy, no care for her own patient.
Ga Hyeon’s reaction is the most human and humane.
I was struck on this rewatch that just as HJ has become a decent detective when he was more of a lazy ne’re do well before, so has GH changed. Before she would have just continued up the stairs and gone off to bed, not worrying herself about another’s well being when it would inconvenience her.
For that matter all of the reset-ers are much more well-rounded characters than they might otherwise appear, both for good and bad.
@GB, I thought so too that Se Rin partly contributed to her own death through all the lies that she told. But still it is a pity that she was not treated properly for her mental issues which could have saved her.
@SD, we get some backstory on almost everyone. Even Young Woong’s story comes out today. Then there’s Bae’s story and Bratty Gamer’s. More of the former’s though.
@WE, So now we get a scene inserted with Hwang and he comes out and makes a call looking suspicious. Viewers are being set up to expect something more about Hwang.
@WE
And to add to the quality of the scene where they find the dead body, It all started with the female lead.Remembering that seren had another phone
@GB, regarding your earlier comment, Se Rin’s death seems particularly poignant. For all that she is so manipulative, she also is always extremely vulnerable.
On the face of it, the actress does not seem outstanding, but to show that vulnerability even while clearly behaving badly suggests she is quite good. I do not remember seeing her in anything else though.
FL Shows how compassionate she is when she comments on how terrified se rin must have been.
@WE
@MM yes, the set up was already there when we saw how Se Rin told GH about Young Woong’s phone. It was a good sequence of building up tension.
The filming of the interview scene with Lee Shin is so unusual. The face of the person speaking is blown up, the background zoomed out and blurred in the background.
@MM, yep, I forgot some details.
What I think about that scene:
It’s a scene where we know what will happens, there is no much surprise. Just the writer made it in a way surpassing our expectations about HOW it happens. And in the end, create a shock!
About Onion flashback, I don’t count the visit of Se Rin to Lee Shin. That is a regular flashback.
The Onion flashback is what follow when she was at Bae’s tied on the chair.
We just have the start of this now.
@SD, I don’t know the actress either, but I agree that she’s pretty good and convincing.
What a cold-blooded psychiatrist!! She puts the blame on the victim for not saving herself.
@SD, the actress appeared in Running Man recently to promote her new drama with Woo Do Hwan, Mr. Plankton.
@WE, yes the peeling back the layers of flashback keeps going on… it is only at the end, that we see how it started. This show is great for this.
@GB, as I was posting on dramabeans, I met a very fan of this drama (watched x10). I proposed to comes here for rewatch, but the girl was busy.
@SD & @GB, I think it was mentioned in Running Man that the actress acted in Squid Game too.
Seems like because of his prior knowledge of the suspects, only HJ knows the implication of Se Rin running away from Sejin Hospital.
Meanwhile GH mourns for Se Rin…. the scene is a great one to get us confused about the time that this is happening when GH embraces Se Rin. Her regret is great.
The family of Se Rin are hard to like. There was some truth in what she had said about them.
Most of psychiatrists are psychos in kdramas.
I remember the one in Sisyphus. What else? I’m sure I have a whole list of killers among psychiatrists, but don’t remember all the dramas.
@WE, pity. I’ve done the same before… posted links to BOD on Dramabeans.
Oh yes, I wanted to bring up the NEXT REWATCH SHOW.
Kairos or something else?
Someone says on previous thread they were fishs, or something like that, in a fishball.
Now, look at the roof of the meeting room of Zian: there is water above, instead of the sky. 😉
@FF, yes I think Squid Games too but I never watched it.
Lee Shin simply waits for Se Rin to die. Mutual threats and blackmail between Lee Shin and Bae. So few likable characters among the Resetters.
@GB, no idea. It depends if the main thematic is “time travel”. If yes… well, it doesn’t remain lot of dramas. But there are some I never watched. So, maybe should do? Tunnel, Mars, Alice and maybe some others.
@WE, Someday or One Day had a ‘bad’ psychiatrist as well.
@WE In the
Recent drama nothing uncovered. There was an evil mastermind psychiatrist.
As you said there are more.
@WE and EVERYONE
Next Rewatch Show Choices
‘Life on Mars’ was very good …
Alice was horrible.
‘Tunnel’ was okay.
‘Kairos’ was good.
Tunnel was good. I have been wanting to watch mars
All I remember from Kairos it was damn good. I had the feeling it was better than Signal. But now we rewatched Signal and it was so good I’m not sure anymore. I liked main actor, his weird daughter from horror movie and there is one multi-contextual situation at one point (yeah!).
Lee Shin told Bae that Se Rin died with a smile on her face, then sits back into her chair with that smile still on her face, like she is gloating about it.
I like that GH is very proactive in finding out stuff. She meets Young Woong to find out what he might have been hiding. But he does not spill it easily.
Irritating Brat is being questioned but he gets away without answering. So annoying!
How
Can they be doing repeated resets if they are dying. Do they not still need to be alive by the end of the reset to then do another reset?
Or does the psychiatrist have the ability to move between time lines? A superpower
@GB, Then I’ll watch “life on mars” quickly. Put that on top of my priority watchlist. 😉
I was told Kairos was good but I previously watched 2 episodes or so only.
@MM, ‘Life on Mars’ was good for the police interactions and how the investigations went… with the side mystery of what was really going on with the TV and weird stuff.
@MM, they are not repeating resets. It’s their first reset because it’s first time Lee Shin put a stop to the way they should normally die. But the problem is: they still die. So she want to know if even we change something in time, they are still doomed to die or can save themselves. It’s important for her, as she tries to save her daughter, doomed to die.
@MM Lee Shin’s life was never in danger so she could reset like crazy. At least 6 times.
We see Bae’s story and we feel a bit for him and understand why he reset.
@FF, ‘Kairos’ was good for the time travel logic and how to work around it etc. So for a time travel show, that part is usually what I’d like to see done well.
No wonder the Gamer boy is so cocky, he turns out to be the son of some politician.
@FF, yes, Brat knows his father’s lawyer will get him out of trouble. However the 2nd time interrogation with HJ, he does not have the lawyer around and HJ gets the truth out of him.
Show does it so that GH’s finding out the truth from Young Woong at the same time.
Here we get a bit of onion flashback. Just it tells what happens before too: It was bratt-gamer trapping Se Rin.
Then He and Bae are in the room with the girl. We know Bae hates her. But would he kills her?
Then we see what happens next.
Now she’s in front of appartement with the bratt?
Huh.
I’m a bit lost about this onion chronology now. LOOOL!
And with that call from Brat to Se Rin we see another layer of onion flashback … we understand what made her run back to Seoul where she would be killed.
Many inadvertently culpable people behind Se Rin’s death. It was because Brat had lured her to Bae’s place she’d returned to Seoul. Bae was also inadvertently culpable because he’d gotten Brat to lure her to his place for a chat.
I really like the cut from Bae Jung Tae’s car mirror (after he sees his hovel is taped up) to the interaction with Lee Shin.
Besides the weird imagery, the music helps make it creepy.
Bratt gamer is also a bully. The more we know about this politician spoiled kid, the more we get the idea he’s a real shitty asshole. 😀
@WE, this show does the onion back and forth…. not only in one direction. Sometimes we don’t know if the part we see is ahead of or behind one seen before.
Se Rin’s confrontation with Brat makes him look like another possible killer. She gave him motive by threatening to release the video.
Also, note that the light beneath the circle, most often a bluish green, is a fushia blood red. We hear Bae Jung Tae’s request for Se Rin to be called in so he can kill her and the black sand runs out of the hour glass; she is dead!
@WE, Actually the Scene of Brat and Se Rin is for another onion flashback on what is happening with Bae who got mugged in his car.
It is also a flashback for Se Rin’s murder. A double-barreled purpose flashback!
I am hypothesizing that LS Is resetting either to spend time with her daughter and or find a cure for her daughter /herself.
I think it was implied. She knows about the deaths because she has lived through this time period before. Now I am thinking they only died when she was resetting. And we’re still alive in the original timeline before she takes them back.
So
How does the cereal murder get Involved?
@SD, yes, a lot of the images are very apt. I also noticed that image in the car side mirror… like he is crushed in that tiny space trapped with Lee Shin, needing to toe her line.
@Hardcore non linear storytelling for true kdrama brute audience like us. Aahahahah!!!
And perhaps the psychiatrist is being manipulated by the professor whoever that is. Maybe someone to do with her or her daughter’s health care.
@WE, yes, Show has to defeat hardcore show analysts like us!!!
Oh and she takes the group back with her to give her entertainment during yet another repeated year of Existence.
My working theory.
@MM WRT Lee Shin and resetting …I feel it was both to spend time with her daughter because she really could not bear to lose her, and because she had some other agenda.
As for the serial killer and those people, several episodes ago, @WE gave me the SPOILER answer so I won’t mention it here.
I already rewatched the drama but I’m still somehow lost. I think maybe we should choose a more relaxing kdrama like “I hear your voice”. ^^
Bratty gamer gets problems with a real gangster (Bae). Well done. He should know his place.
Next, Lee Shin assistant leave a meeting in a park with the old dude. We start to get the idea this old dude could be a VIP….
@MM, yes for this last reset, LS saved everyone so that she could get subjects to entertain her. She said she had too much time and was bored.
Now I’m at the part where Minion Song (who came back to work after quitting!) gives the police the USB drive to show that both LS and Bae are innocent of Se Rin’s murder.
@WE your comment made me laugh so much I choked.
‘I Hear Your Voice’ is a bit supernatural but no time travel at all. It is also VERY LONG.
And now… the crazy cliffhanger.
Bae stabbed at home by a detective.
Then someone erasing hard-drive.
FL tries a phone call and it’s….
ML !!!!!!!!
How much of that is wrong??!
And now we set up so that Heong Ju becomes a suspect.
Hwang is suspicious too and Sun Ho is copying from HJ’s notebook without permission.
Seung Min says something that gives GH a VERY IMPORTANT piece of information to start her thinking. Seung Min is always kicked out by GH!!!
I love how Nam Soon Woo is always more knowledgeable than HJ. It adds a slight bit of comedy to the police procedural scenes.
@WE, do you ever notice/think about the role of comedy in these dramas?
OK Everyone, please vote what we should watch next.
1) Kairos
2) Life on Mars
3) Tunnel
@WE Thanks
To your onion theory I did not believe it was the male lead although there was a shadow of doubt on my part.
Tunnel I really enjoyed.Kairos I started, but dropped for some reason.Don’t remember why.
I have been wanting to watch life on mars for a while but do not know where to watch it.
So any of these dramas are good for me.But the only one I have already watched is tunnel.
@MM
Like I said, ‘Life on Mars’ was great for things other than the time-travel aspect. Infact it is hard to really call it that after watching. But it looks like a time-travel show. Confusing, huh?
The one I’m waiting for is ‘Signal 2’… should be next year!
Okay, let us know if you can find ‘Life on Mars’, otherwise we stick with ‘Kairos’ for now.
Hmm, HJ was set up to be the killer.
Does life on Mars has any romance element?
I really enjoyed watching Bae Jung Tae’s scene of regret and the flashback where he seems a much simpler man. We know after these scenes, that he really didn’t desire money, but a chance to save his sister (I kept wondering why he would live in that hovel if he really had wanted money and had really won what ever he might have won).
@FF, ‘Life on Mars’ … barely a romance element. At least not a full blown one… just hinted at.
@SD, Yes, it’s amazing how Show made us empathise with Bae after seeing him as a thug most of the time. It has done a lot for the rounding out of characters all within 8 episodes and we have 4 more to go!
Any preferences for the next REWATCH @SD?
@MM, more onion peelings for that scene, for sure. 😉
I’m in for Kairos, or maybe Life of mars?
I just start watching it now. I had the idea it was a “fake” time travel show.
By that, I mean: character change time episode 1 and comes back last episode.
However, we see with 365 that even the concept of a single time travel can lead to awesome developpement. Of course, 365 isn’t “Moon Lovers”, right? I mean, about concept.
Then I wish you a good week!!!
Choices of Next Time Travel Show after ‘365 Days Repeat the Year”
OK So far the vote seems to be:
1st place: Kairos
2nd place: Life on Mars
3rd place: Tunnel
I kind of agree with the description that Life on Mars is kind of a ‘fake’ time-travel show. You’ll understand when you watch it. I think all of us will be able to stream ‘Kairos’ but not sure if you can get hold of ‘Life on Mars’.
@WE Regarding moon lovers, My friend and I decided We would have been better protagonists with our limited knowledge of history Than IU’s character was.
On the other hand, The male lee was***y And the music very enjoyable.
@MM, I liked moderately “moon lovers”, until 5 last episodes that were great… Wooo, it was a full blast!! I had sensations I had when watching Empress Ki then. Of course, main actor is a favorite of mine. Lee Jong Gi! But lead actress UI… meh, I find her cute, but nothing great. She became painful in Hotel del Luna. First part was funny, but last one was boring and her character continuing to be unlikeable. I have to see what people say is her best drama “My mister”. Yep, didn’t watched that yet.
Well, I finally finished. I really like the sequencing of information at the end of this episode. First we hear Bae Jung Tae, say, ‘Detective’. Then we see GH realizing that all of the cases took place in one police district (HJ’s district). THEN, we see HJ sitting at a computer, we see him ignore her call, and we see him look over his shoulder. The music is that weird fusion music, presaging something awful. And then, Bae Jung Tae’s body. After seeing this, I immediately thought, ‘Oh, it must be HJ!’. And then, but can it be? He was so nice (and so incompetent); and then, but all the characters who seemed nice or nice-ish turned out not to be. It is very nicely done.
I have not seen any of the options, so am indifferent to the choice. Mydramalst says that ‘Life on Mars’ is on Disney+, which I happen to have (and keep meaning to discontinue), but I have not verified it yet.
