Happy Birthday, Peaches!

Belated happy birthday to the blog and all the posters! We’re seven years old! I’m looking forward to many more years to come.

It should come as no surprise that this blog was started on December 29, 2017, a few days before New Year’s Eve. I was at loose ends back then.

I felt stifled by rules set by uppity moderators. I was appalled by the shallowness of viewers, more focused on Mr. X’s abs and the popping veins in his hands  (yes, really!) than the dialogues, that they missed the plot, the plot holes, and the plot points. I grew wrinkles on my forehead from constantly frowning over posts extolling the “Chemistry!” of the actors and the “Cinematography!” of the scenes.

I had headaches from scrolling through tens of emotional screeds before finding a pertinent, level-headed opinion. And I was tired of cultish teens and the fanwars they created.

Hence this blog was created. I wanted space to think without distraction and to write what I want. I also believed viewers to discuss and analyze kdrama intellectually like critics do with literature and theater. I thought it’s just a matter of changing the mindset, training, encouraging, and providing the venue.

This past year was frenetic for me. I had little time to watch kdramas, much less to review them. I’m grateful to all of you who waited for me, and kept the blog going. Special shout-out to @GB, @WEnchanteur, @agdr03, @Cleopatra, @OldAmericanLady, @monmor, @Welmaris, @Fern, @Kate, and the Saturday Rewatch Gang.

2025 should yield a bumper crop.

Here’s the birthday cake this year. My drawing skills are rusty.

Happy Birthday Everyone! Especially Happy Anniversary to @pkml3 and much, much thanks for creating this space for us. I truly appreciate BOD and all the stimulating conversations, fun analyses, crazy predictions, mature squees and roars of dismay and just the amazing good times of being with like-minded drama friends.

Thanks @pkml3 for sharing your amazing insights and yes, for ‘training’, for analysing and showing us how to look at/rethink the plots, plot holes, appreciate production values and cinematography. It really is a relief to not be among masses of ‘screaming or squeeing fans’ and to consider weightier opinions. I’ve had a real great time with dramas because of BOD!

May BOD have a very long life and many happy birthdays to come!

    Also, Happy New Year 2025!

Guess what @pkml3!! I found a post of yours on Goblin (originally on S****i) but it was trapped in the Fluttering Alert category/section. Here it is in case you want to move it to the Goblin Category:

No wonder I never got to properly read your take on Reapers and the ‘gender switch’. 🙂

  4. We aren’t perfect on this blog, but we try to avoid the excessive display of extreme emotions. On those few occasions I visited the other drama sites, I was assailed by the “reaction” comments like,

“OMG! I’m shooked by that kiss.”
    “They’re so cute together that I can’t…”
    “I LITERALLY died when I saw him…”
“I can’t breathe! She’s so beautiful. Slay, my queen!”
“I’m so impressed by his expressive eyebrows/hands/eyes/nose/big toe…”
“How can I wait seven days for the next episode? Ottoke?!”

I’m reminded of my visit to a high school to give a talk to graduating seniors. I walked through the cafeteria during lunchtime, as unobtrusively as possible, to try to listen in to the conversations. They were teens being teens, of course.

I guess I’m spoiled here because most of us are older.

In reddit, the moderator(s) made a note to posters not to make “low effort/quality comments.” Really?? The site monetizes through advertising and those “low effort/quality comments” are useful for clicks. Folks are naturally craving to be noticed and heard, and to have their say even if they aren’t saying much.

Another thing, it’s easier to create a community spirit when it’s a small and close-knit group.

  5. Happy 7th Birthday BOD!!! 🎂 🥳 🎈

I don’t know what my 7 years would be like without this blog, without the BOD classmates and especially you Queen. It’s been a big part of my life and I’ll forever be grateful for finding this site. 🙏🏼❤️

Thank you to the kdramas, cdramas and doramas for existing because without it, there’s no BOD. 🙌🏻

Thank you Queen for being here and for giving us this home. May 2025 be another great learning year filled with joy, laughter, romance and my favourite, kisses.

Cheers to many more years!!! 🥂 🥂🥂

@pkml3, I’m glad that we still manage to balance our mature and weighty opinions with forays into Shallow Island. It’s all to the good for mental health and emotional stability! 😂😆😇

  7. Haha, I love that birthday cake, @packmule3. Many thanks for allowing years of interesting comments and guidance from you and other posters. Yes, we still cross the straits to Shallow Island from time to time, but while laughing at ourselves.

  8. I found BOD while looking for a meaningful discussion on “Memories Of The Alhambra.” Thank you @pm3 for creating this space and thank you to all who contribute. Happy birthday!

  9. Happy Birthday! Kdramas and this blog were a comfort through the pandemic. I was listening to a my kdrama playlist yesterday and one of the songs had the refrain “always remember” (Sondia – Do Do La …). I feel that way about this blog. It will always stand out as a distinct time and place. Happy New Year to all! And thank you @Packmule3

  10. Happy Birthday BOD! Thank you @Packmule3 for making this haven for us!

A big thank you to @packmule3 for the immense effort to maintain this blog as a safe space for all of us posters for 7 years!🙏

  12. This blog has provided so many insights and has helped me become a more astute viewer of Kdramas , and for this@packmule 3 I offer many thanks.
Also, love having BOD as an official birthday buddy as 12/29 is my birthday also.🎂.

  13. Old American Lady (OAL)

Thank you @packmule3 for creating BOD and setting the rules for respectful discourse. You have also given space to an international group of commenters who have, by their very presence done so much to promote understanding, while experiencing the joy of being K Drama (and other world program) fans. I think that we also sometimes venture to Shallow Island but don’t live there and recognize the point of the occasional visit. Here’s to many more years to this lovely community and our fearless leader @packmule3.
