Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I’m currently binge-watching “Love Scout” and re-watching “Queen of Tears.”
1. Melo Movie
This is just in time for VD. I hope this ends happily for the main couple because this is giving me “25-21” vibes. And THAT k-drama is dubbed “k-trauma” for a reason.
From mydramalist:
A story about the dreams and love of young people who also carry wounds and trauma.
Dreaming of becoming a film director one day, Kim Mu Bi, an assistant director, wants to follow in her father’s footsteps, who worked as a filming crew member and who loved movies more than her. After entering the film industry, she quietly honed her skills, not drawing attention to herself in the eyes of others.
On the other hand, Ko Gyeom, who stands out too much, rose from being an extra actor to becoming a film critic. He loves movies so much that his goal is to watch all the movies made in the world. He meets Mu Bi on the set of a melodrama film and gets very curious about her because of her name, which sounds like “movie.”
Cast: Choi Woo Shik (“Our Beloved Summer”), Park Bo Young (“Strong Girl Namsoon,” “Doom at Your Service”)
I read somewhere that the writer of “Our Beloved Summer” also wrote this script specifically for Choi Woo Shik. Is he her muse or something?
Episodes: 10 (all will drop at once)
Airs on Friday, February 14
Where to Watch it: Netflix
Network: Netflix
2. My Dearest Nemesis
Like “When the Phone Rings,” this drama is adapted from a webtoon. Hopefully, a screenwriter was hired to bolster the storyline and mop up the makjang elements. This is a romcom.
From imdb.com
Baek Su Jeong leads a planning team at a renowned department store. She meets her new boss, Ban Ju Yeon, her first love from an online game 16 years ago, stirring up memories of when he confessed his feelings but she rejected him.
Cast: Moon GaYoung (“True Beauty”) and Choi HyunWook (one of the boys in “25-21”)
Episodes: 12
Start Date: Monday, February 17
Airs on Mondays and Tuesdays
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: Tving
3. Newtopia
Whoops! I forgot about this. Two episodes are out on Amazon Prime and I downloaded them for viewing on my flight today. It looks like a zombie drama (remember Park Hyung Sik’s “Happiness”? I hope this Newtopia is just like it. The male lead, who’s newly enlisted in the military, searches for his girlfriend in a zombie-infested Seoul.
Cast: Park Jung Min and Jisoo (from the girl group “Blackpink” although I don’t know her)
Episodes: 8
Start Date: Friday, February 7
Airs on Friday
Where to Watch it: Amazon Prime
Network: Coupang
4. The Reason We Fall in Love
This is a short dorama (or Japanese drama). 10 episodes, 24 minutes per episode. I’m in the mood for something quirky and since this is also a workplace drama like “Love Scout,” I can compare and contrast the cultural perspectives on senior-junior office relationships.
Cast: I don’t know the actor but the actress was the lead in “Marry Me” (2020)
Episodes: 10
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: TV Asahi
Speaking of doramas, Fern, do you remember “My Happy Marriage,” the cartoon version on Netflix? Season 2 is out, with 6 episodes already released.
What are you watching this month? I’m really looking forward to next month’s release of IU and Park BoGum’s “When Life Gives You Tangerines?”
Spread the love on Valentine’s Day, and every day!
@packmule3, thank you. I do want to watch the next part of My Happy Marriage. The first part had a rosy ending, but something tells me that is an illusion. I’m trying to catch up with Love Scout. I have tried and dropped some other things.
I hope that you are well. Happy Valentines Day to you and your husband.
Hey @PAckmule3!
I missed you! I do hope you are okay! I was checking the other day for a February post! <3
The only kdrama I have managed to finish so far is : "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call". I had a great time with it. I haven't been able to progress to the latest episodes of "When The Stars Gossip".
I also started to see what the hype is about "The Study Group" and I am waiting for the latest episodes. It is good, but NOT the genre some of you will want to watch. Since it has fighting and bullying.
So, far I want to watch a well written scenario, which is quick and not draggy.
Regarding C-Dramas, I am dragging, but I am doing it because I don't want to end "The Guardians of Dafeng" with Dylan Wang Hedi. He is amazing in the role!
I have enjoyed "Blossom" in December and I think it's a must for those who want to see such a story. Li YunRui is amazing, ahem… o.O
Also, I have started, while I am taking my time, slowly slowly "The White Olive Tree". It has to do with PTSD mostly and a war zone.
I also have on my radar: Melo Movie, My Dearest Nemesis, The Witch and Buried Hearts a revenge story with Park Hyung Shik.
BUT
I am not that very sure that I will follow all of them in February. I am busy, hence I am MIA on B.o.D. If I have time to rest, I do so. No TV, no shows for me.
It is good to be back… 😊
Happy Hearts Day!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I will watch Melo Movie, that’s about it. 😃
For cdramas, I just did a rewatch of Who Rules The World, just because I miss Yang Yang and Rosy. 🥰
I’m not sure what to watch next but I saw this Taiwanese movie called Man In Love. The couple there got married in real life. ☺️
I was thinking of rewatching Queen of Tears too. I should. 😄
Thank you for this. Safe travels. ❤️
@Fern, I’ll have to download and watch My Happy Marriage surreptitiously. 🤣🤣
@Cleo, isn’t Guardians of Dafeng fun? Yes, I’m liking Dylan Wang too in this detective comedy. It reminds me of that variety-detective show he would sometimes guest in.
@Agdr03, I liked Queen of Tears for some reason. It struck a chord with me. But I want to rewatch it in case I was just caught up in the melodrama of it all.
See you a bit!
@Packmule3,
He is amazing, indeed! Especially in the dream sequence in Episode 27, Dylan nailed it! I am in Episode 35, but I am taking my time with it. I am impressed by his antics!
I am finishing up Love Scout and Motel California.
Melo Movie: 25-21 vibes does not bode well, but I will wait for word of mouth reactions.
Meanwhile, I am rewatching Happiness, because romance and zombies just fit so well together!
Finishing Love Scout and hopefully Study Group. SG is brutally violent but I like the ML. So I often fast forward the fight scenes (which the teenage/young seem to be raving about out and I cringe at) and just watch for the characters and the humour (?) – it’s bizarre but maybe it’s the backdrop of hyperbolic violence that random quips by the naive ML just makes me laugh out loud (a form of tension release maybe?)🤔 . Anyway, I think it’s only 10/12 eps. This seems to be the go now? A lot of these new dramas are short and punchy with 12 eps. Not sure if I will pick anything else up after Love Scout and Study Group. Thought about binge watching Where The Stars Gossip but the reviews haven’t been flattering so I might skip it.
PS @packmule3 Happy Valentines. I am really looking forward to Bogum and IU’s drama as well. Sounds like they are releasing it with 4 eps per week? PD says it was filmed in “seasons” so it made sense to drop a season a week? Or something to that effect. Filmed in Jeju so it should be a feast for the eyes. I watched the trailer and I am already in love. 🥰
@Nrllee – I am also enjoying Study Group. I fast forward through the bullying sequences but I am enjoying the very satisfying and wonderfully choreographed headline fight sequences. The ML is adorable! I love the fact that he is on the look out for guys who want to study and sees that as his main mission as he goes around fearlessly tackling the bad guys! It’s surprising in places with a good redemptive thread and you don’t quite know who is on what journey. And what about ML’s Mum? Loving it.
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! Don’t forget the chocolate.
February Korean Dramas I want to check out:
The Scandal of Chun Hwa- premise sounded interesting. Unfortunately, not available in my region and difficult to find episodes with quality English subs at “other sites.” I was hoping that Viki or NF would pick this up, but so far nothing.
Melo Movie- I like the leads, but I can’t deal with a sad ending so will wait on this one.
The Witch- On Viki. I like Jin Young, so will check it out.
My Dearest Nemesis- Hopefully, this is the rom com that I need. Please show, let’s have some laughs and nice kisses!
Undercover High School and Buried Hearts- Will wait to see reviews and feedback from viewers. If there is a lot of buzz, I may check these out.
Other Dramas I want to check out in February:
Dear My Secretary- Thailand adaptation of K Drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? starring Bua and Jes. Bua is perfect for the role of Secretary Kim. No Eng subs at the moment. Hoping this will be picked up by one of the streamers soon.
I Am Married, but… -at Netflix.- Love lead actors Alice Ko and Jasper Liu so will check out this drama.
Kill My Sins- Chinese drama at Viki and Youku Youtube Channel. Liu Shi Shi and Shawn Dou together in a mystery historical drama. Premise sounds interesting.
The White Olive Tree- IQIYI website It’s another Descendants of the Sun type premise, but I like Female Lead Liang Jie, so I will check it out.
The First Frost- Netflix. It’s the sequel to C Drama Hidden Love. This time it tells the Older Brother’s story.
Live or Love? – WeTV, NewTV Hit Drama YouTube Channel. Chinese Rom Com about business rivals sucked into a video game. Avenue X reccomend it for people looking for a cute, light watch, which I am seeking.
@Kate Study Group definitely surprised me.
(SPOILER)
The ML’s mom was a huge twist 😂. I couldn’t stop laughing when ML went to the wrong school for study group exchange, looked at all the graffitied walls and murmured, “is this an art school or something?” Then he spots drops of blood on the stairs and wonders, “wow, these students study so hard that they get nose bleeds.” 😂😂😂. The irony is so well done. It works partly because of the ML’s portrayal (he’s a dead ringer for Cha EunWoo at certain angles – although my daughter disputes this vehemently 😂) and his actual gullible naive character. I also like his male side kick. The brains of the operation. Their characters just work together well.
@Table122000 The Witch caught my interest too for the same reason (JinYoung). And if I am not wrong, the writer wrote Moving (which I thoroughly enjoyed – I fast forwarded the brutal violent scenes 😬). The characters he created in Moving were nuanced and interesting. I hope he does the same here.
@Nrllee – agree completely with CEW comparison – have been thinking that too – and it works so well for this actor!
I was laughing too as he pondered Manic High School’s graffitied walls and the blood on the staircase!
He has a wonderful ability to see with hope and in spite of what is facing him! He is a kind of comedy visionary – he does bring the best out of people when it is there to be brought out. Then of course he also does this thing when he morphs into this panther like fighter with the laser gaze! What is not to love!
Agreed re male side kick. What a well drawn and well acted + pivotal character!
Kalimera Ladies and Gentz!
“My Dearest Nemesis” started last night on Viki. It was an interesting episode, although I disliked one thing so far. I am enjoying watching Choi Hyun Wook. He is so expressive! As for Moon Ka Young, she is bubbly in this one. A bit annoying too… o.O
As for the Witch, I want to watch it too.
@nrlee Moving, The Light Shop and The Witch are all Kang Full’s work. I curious of what he did in this one!
Still, I need to find time to watch the latest episodes of The Study Group.
Do we have news from @GB Unnie?
@Cleo,
I am on episode 2 of MY Dearest Nemesis.
It is warming up nicely. The ML is getting into his role – is this his first romantic lead? Did I sense some hesitancy from him in Episode 1? I was just watching him in Weak Hero Class 1 where he was unflinchingly excellent alongside the gorgeous Park Ji Hoon’s lead character.
I know what you mean about the way the FL is written. I suspect the writing will tone down her annoying characteristics as the show moves forward and as the sparks fly between the leads (I hope!).
For some reason, I feel confident that the show will be good with this cast because both of them tends to choose strong shows. I may of course be wrong.
ps @Cleo I realised watching Episode 2 that I had misunderstood the IRL meet up and what happened there. I don’t want to put spoilers in this discussion until others have had the chance to watch the first episode or so. But I was confused – shall I say.
I am referring to confusion about Ep 1. I understand why that was now.
Dear Friends, how have you been?
I have not been in the mood for an Asian Drama. Lately the only thing I seem to look for are Science, Personal Growth and Fountain Pen videos!
The first thing I saw (or not) is that dear @GrowingBeautifully is absent from this Post. The last time I read from her was about the Korean Space Drama.
Have you had any news from her? How is she doing in her rehab?
Hope to read soon from you all,
FGB4877
@Cleo I watched ep1 of The Witch and to be honest I am not “hooked”. The story doesn’t grab me. I will push on with Ep2 to see if I like it better. Moving hooked me with the first ep and it kept getting better. The characters (and the actors/actresses) were rich and nuanced.
@nrllee, @Table122000 and @Cleo
I watched the first two episodes of The Witch mainly because of Jin Young. I have missed him and because I didn’t watch his last drama. 🙂
The first episode was intriguing because of the accidents and how they all link it to Mi Jeong but then I felt that the second episode was slow. Like they showed most of the scenes from episode one.
But I am curious as to what her Dad said about not telling anyone. I will have to rewatch too because there were some subtitles missing where I was watching. The music in this drama is very somber. I wonder if it will change.
Note:
I finished Melo Movie had a happy ending. I thought Choi Woo Shik was cute in it. 🙂 It had it’s funny moments and sad moments too but over all I enjoyed it.
I will try to watch I Am Married But as well. 🙂
@FGB and @Cleo, thanks for checking if I’m okay. That’s so sweet of you to notice and be concerned.
I have a few reasons for not being on this thread…
I’m super busy and am not watching much, or I’m just watching the same shows that I may have mentioned in the last WAWW thread.
On top of everything, there’s a medical situation going on with my mum-in-law that’s taken centrestage at the moment. (Please pray for her to be comfortable and at peace.)
I’m also recovering slowly and trying to find time to do my physiotherapy exercises. But at the same time I’m trying to ward off the flu and need more sleep.
All in all, I guess I’m not watching much except my usual Rewatch show and trying to finish “When the Stars Gossip“. I may try to do a quick rewatch of I Hear Your Voice in preparation for the next Rewatch Party show. (All are welcome to join us on Saturdays!) That’s about it!!
Take care all!
Kalimera!
@nrllee @agdr03
I will give it a try, after I finish Study Group.
I have also on pause “Who Rules The World” I wanted to see Zhao Lusi, and Yang Yang doesn’t disappoint.
Aside fromt “The Witch”, the thing that made me gasp and saddened me, was the passing of Kim Sae Ron…She was only 24 years old…
Hello @FGB!
It is good to read you my friend!
I am also in the club of Personal Growth, doing things that I enjoy like dancing and cooking. I also rest and sleep a lot, because my weekdays are hectic.
<3
Unnie,
Good to know that you are okay, but busy. I was worried that is true. I am not watching shows as I used to, so I am not in some threads and I don’t know when you have posted.
I am praying for your Mother in Law. 🙏 I do hope she is comfortable and at peace.
Take care of yourself and rest as much as you can.
<3
@Kate,
I am glad you are enjoying “My Dearest Nemesis”. Have you watched Episode 2 ?
🎇🎂🎇 2025 is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. It’s going to be a big thing in Bath and on BBC, I should think.
Is anyone else watching ‘A Perfect Match’ C-drama set in the Song Dynasty? Netflix
It is truly funny and full of shenanigans despite some predictable melodrama. IMDb: “Wealthy Mrs. Li moves her family from Luoyang to Bianjing to find husbands for her five daughters. Despite initial struggles, the family works together to establish a business and search for suitable matches.”
If this sounds a bit like “Pride and Prejudice”, well yes, but embroidered heavily and with a lot of comedy and tactical sparring between the leads added. Leads are Wang Xing Yue (the fabulous Duke from The Double) and Lu Yu Xiao.
@Pat, I watched some episodes last night and enjoyed it. The Pride and Prejudice comparisons are well made!
@Cleo, Yes I enjoyed Episode 2 of My Dearest Nemesis. The plot begins to gel nicely!
@Nrllee,
I am watching Ep 9 of Study Group during my lunch break. I like it that much.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOLIERS SPOILERS
Could the ML be more adorable? I love him.
That wonderful moment when he supports his sidekick buddy on the building site saying they come as a set. He’s his ‘one plus one’.
This is a heart-warming story.
I also love the social commentary in the show. The despair about entrenched power structures – as we discover just how deep the corruption at the school goes.
I was struck the moment of temptation – almost Jesus in the Wilderness style – when our hero was offered power and contacts etc
And what about the blueberry offering? Laughing here.
@GB – missing you! You have a LOT on your plate.
Sending you prayers for all those situations and your health. Keep us posted.
@Kate
Just watched ep9. I laughed at the sarcastic comment, “wow, your body won’t even rot” by JiWoo (after GaMin was fed all those vitamins/supplements) 😂😂😂
Yes to the social commentary about entrenched power structures. You need idealists (personified by GaMin and the lady teacher) to make headway and trail blaze, clinging onto their dreams despite all odds. They cleaned up the mess in the study room together. And buoyed by each other’s convictions, they rekindled the idealistic fervor needed for change. Loved that GaMin’s mother gave him sage advice about what really matters – and how far he had come. GaMin sought SeHyeon out when he buckled under the pressure…and helped him shoulder the load (as it were) by stepping into his shoes. No lectures, no speeches. Just walking alongside him until he was ready to get back on the “right” path again. Enthusiasm is contagious. And there’s a knock on effect as SeHyeon (he’s the brains/mouthpiece of the group) convinced HeeWon’s parents to let HeeWon stay in the high school. Then HeeWon convinced JiWoo. And LeeJun stayed where he was anyway and didn’t need any convincing. Just like that, the fab five are back. 😂😂
As a side note, I noticed that in the flashbacks of GaMin and his Sensei, we always see his back and never his face, and he’s always in the same outfit 😂😂😂. I wonder if he exists. Or if he’s a figment of his (GM) imagination 😂😂😂.
@nrllee,
I enjoyed your thoughts!
The cleaning up the study room was a mark of character wasn’t it? GaMin is an idealist and a visionary.
Yes to what you say about the ‘no lectures’ approach and just being with his disillusioned buddy until Sehyeon was ready to get back on track!
Great theory re GaMin’s Sensei.
I had this mad theory that it would be some real life mega martial arts hero that GaMin just happened to know! A Bruce Lee type of hero. GaMin was, after all, secretive about his Bruce Lee book in episode 1.
Of course, Bruce Lee was long gone before Gamin could have benefited from his training. I wonder if the show is trying to create an intriguing ‘never gets anywhere’ myth or a mystery here. Or perhaps the mystery will be revealed in a later episode?
Or perhaps a combination of your theory and GaMin’s immersion in books by Bruce Lee. A lonely boy comforted by a projection of Bruce Lee as his advisor!
To counter the imaginary Sensei theory… there is GaMin’s Mother who is herself no slouch in this area… Uncle could well be a relative and we could discover a whole heroic family background. More for a sequel?
@Kate I would prefer it if they just ended it here with the 10eps. I am not a fan of sequels 😂😂. I lose interest fast. And if I am not wrong, the actor playing GM is doing his national service now and won’t be out till end of this year. So it will be a long time before we get one. If the first series already delivered the essential message to the audience, just leave it be. Squid Game is a prime example. They should’ve just left it with the first series. It did its job. There was really nothing more they could add to it?
As for GM’s approach to win SeHyeon back, I don’t think he knew any other way to do it 😂. He’s not exactly a wordsmith. He just convinced him the only way he knew how.
I don’t know about the Uncle/Sensei. It was just an observation about never seeing his face. Perhaps PD thought it would serve as a point of humour. 😂😂😂.
@Nrllee – yes, they would have to do a spectacular job to make a sequel work!
Let us know what you think of the last episode when you get there. I’ve seen it but won’t post until you do.
I am currently binge watching “A Dream of Splendour” for the first time. I am in the final stretch and hopes it ends well(whatever that means). Enjoying the actress Crystal Liu who was in “Meet Yourself”,I am less familiar with the male lead Chen Xiao who is an older actor-all of 37.
I also binge watched “I Hear your Voice” in preparation for the upcoming group watch. It is a strong show. I enjoy dramas with an element of fantasy used to twist the plot and relationships in interesting ways. This drama is well written, well acted and has strong themes.
I enjoyed the first 2 episodes of Study Group and want to start “My Nemesis”.
I have been shovelling a lot of snow and enjoying it. We have a winter wonderland this year! I have been strategically balancing the heating from room to room in our old house with some level of success.
I alos want to take a look at “Witch” I enjoy the male lead.
@Kate, thank you so much for thinking of me. *Hugs and kisses!*
@GB – a big hug back to you!
Please know I am praying for you. Including for all the things you are not able to fit into a blog post!
Thank you dear @Kate!
Any word on “The Witch”?
I am disappointed that the new Park Hyung Shik drama (from the writer of “Money Flower”) is going to be on Disney. So I am watching him in “Happiness”.
Howdy!
Here’s another trailer for When Life Gives You Tangerines. CTO.
https://x.com/popbase/status/1892750542880804939?s=46&t=BT0tHWWRRX1rx64As5f8XQ
@GB, sending you prayers and hugs specially for your MIL. 🙏🏼😘
Dear @Cleo, Kalinichta from my side of the World!, it is always a happy day when I read you.
I get what you say. I still have to go to the Cardiologist as I am suffering from erratic blood pressure. Right now my medicines are good food, good sleep and excercise. Ah, and Aspirin 😀 !!!
Dear @GrowingBeautifully, the only thing I can do is pray for your Mother In Law. I am well aware of all you do for her (also for how long!!!) and hopefully she appreciates it properly.
Writing my book (which has given me a good excuse to think and philosophize) it has become apparent that all we can do is work towards someone’s happiness. There is nothing more we can do, at the end. I think Agape is one of the highest forms of Love, which you have in spades.
Today I had a brief conversation with the lady that sells sweets in a kiosk near home. She was visited by a cat she called Taylor, a funny little fellow that accompanied her during the day while she attended clients.
She didn’t see him for days and was worried. Lamented she couldn’t adopt him as she already had four other cats, a mom and a college-age daughter.
Regrettably Taylor was run over by a car a few days ago.
All I could say to her was that the happiness of cats are their freedom, that they belong to the places they are most happy living in, and ultimately in this World the prize we pay for having Love, Friendship and Companionship is knowing they will abandon us to go to where they belong.
—–
Hopefully you will find time for yourself. Even in the direst of times a good laugh, a piece of chocolate, a good conversation becomes a precious Oasis where to recharge to continue the journey.
I loved reading your words this morning, @FGB4877. We are living in unsettled times and need to have the grace to look beyond the obvious to find peace of mind.
Thank you, @agdr03. The trailer promises a lot. I love the settings and era in addition to the actors. Fingers crossed.
@GB, I pray for you and yours.
@Kate post away about your final thoughts about Study Group. It does look like they’ve left it open for a sequel? With the deceased teacher’s son talking about joining the big corporation and riding into the sunset? When the fab five talked about their hopes and dreams for the future in the end? Loved that GM just wanted to get to College (one step at a time) whilst everyone else seemed to have more forward looking aspirations 😂😂😂. I must admit I fast forwarded a lot of the fight scenes so this ep seemed more focused on just wrapping up the loose ends and come uppance for the thugs in the school. I didn’t have any laugh out loud moments this time. Or any that were memorable anyway. I think the only big surprise was how nerdy SeHyeon got lessons from GM’s mom and managed to defeat gun toting hat wearing dude. I thought the teacher was rather foolhardy to go into the school by herself and the detective was somewhat inept in believing that he could handle it all on his own? No back up? 🙄. And he got tasered? 🙄. Rendering him rather useless in the end. All in all I really enjoyed this drama even though I didn’t start it expecting much to come of it.
It does look promising @Fern ☺️ Hopefully it will deliver. It’s good it’s in Netflix too.
@Nrllee,
Agree re Teacher Lee’s lack of wisdom and inept Cop. That said, she did get the evidence she needed. But why take that level of risk?!
I thought it was a fab finale. Will re-watch this evening. I fast forwarded the first time and then went back and enjoyed all the fight scenes because they were part of this courageous final push to remove the gang culture at the High School. They also represented the way each character had grown in courage and confidence.
The fight you mentioned between gun toting smiley guy and SeHyeon was so well drawn. The moment when you realised – as you mentioned – that SeHyeon had a strategy in this situation – and then he executed it with a look of fierce determination.
The climatic fight between GamIn and Pi Han Ui was again pitch perfect with the uncertainty and ups and downs you would expect between two evenly matched players. Although, it turned out they weren’t as evenly matched when GaMin used Uncle’s Forbidden Technique 10! LOL
I found myself (happy) crying at a couple of points and laughing at another when the youngest member of the Study Group (the petite and sweet girl student, Choi Hu Wan)) was so brave and – implausibly – at one point led the final charge of all the good/reformed tough guys, brandishing a baseball bat and with an unexpected (shall we say) rallying cry!
It felt at times like that Lord of the Rings film when all the forces of good and evil are lined up… and then the cavalry arrives at dawn.
Like you, I wonder if there will be a sequel now— I have enjoyed the characters and wouldn’t mind seeing them all again, but it will have to be of a very high standard to follow this show.
ps Your point @Nrllee about GaMin’s vision for himself is a great lesson for everywone.
Keep it simple and defined you might achieve far more even than your vision.
I will miss GaMin and his friends.
Finally – this show resonates far more widely than school bullying and speaks to the struggles we all face to have courage in the face of people and life’s obstacles.
I’d encourage people to watch it.
So it is a stand alone school martial arts drama with a big heart and big themes – including coming of age and choosing one’s direction in life rather than having it imposed by others.
Thank you @agdr03 and @Fern! We’ll pray for each other.
I’ve taken a break from stress and am here for my rewatch party!! See you all.
Dear @Fern, indeed. We have what we have while we have it.
Hello everyone,
I am on Episode 9 of Kill My Sins. I started because of the cast – especially the main leads. I last saw Shawn Dou in Princess Agents – a very striking role- and wanted to see him in a new role. I like Liu Shi Shi – loved her in ‘Scarlet Heart’ (the Chinese version) and with Liu Yuning in ‘Journey to Love’.
It’s a plot full of intrigue and complex back stories and sub-plots. If I were not waiting for episodes of shows I am already watching, I might not have persevered.
However, by Episode 7 I am getting my bearings! The show has had so much establishing work to do that it has been difficult to care about the characters thus far. Episode 7 onwards, I am enjoying more effortlessly and in Episode 9 there is a wonderful sword dance sequence that I want to re-watch instantly. Liu Shi Shi is a trained dancer and shows tend to make the most of her skills!
There is a lot of female empowerment in the plot.
Lots of people need to be avenged.
I am just seeing the possibility of emerging romance but no promises!
A very strong cast. Leading actors and actresses are in supporting roles which is always a good sign.
I would say that the narrating of the plot is a little too rapid for the uninitiated. But if you stop worrying about that and about remembering the characters’ names (I go back to the My Drama List cast list) and go with the flow… you can enjoy this a lot.
Howdy!
I gave The First Frost a go and initially after the 2 episodes I thought I might not continue but lucky the scene of harassment has stopped. It is good and I’ve never watched Bai Jingting before and he reminds me of Lee Jong Suk. He’s not as good looking but there’s something about him that draws you. 😃
The pairing is good and I’m a sucker for boys who does everything for the girl he likes and she’s not aware at all. ☺️
Episode 9 and 10 were particularly funny. He was funny. 😂
@Cleo 😘 I have rewatched Who Rules The World a couple of times now and I still get new joys from it. 🥰 It’s my best cdrama pairing, next is Wu Lei with Lusi. 🥰 I pray they get to do modern dramas. 🙏🏼
I wanted to add that it would have been great if Sang Zhi and Duan Jiaxu, Lusi and CZY were able to cameo in The First Frost but it’s impossible, I know. 😃
But it’s still nice to see them in the drama.
Dear @FGB,
Kalimera from my part of the world. It is always good to read you too.
Take care of yourself. I had stress blood pressure almost two years ago. I had to take meditation too and follow some instructions, only when things subsided my cardiologist told me to stop it. He also said what was the thing that stressed me, because in my check some months ago I was pretty okay.
I agree with you, Agape is one of the highest forms of Love. And we call it “Αγάπη” in greek too.
We need to take care of ourselves first and foremost. So, I do hope you are sleeping and eating well. Yes, the world is not an easy place to be and we need little moments of joy, in order to recharge. Let’s do exactly that… 😊
Dear @Cleo, thanks for your Post. Navigating this problem (still have to go to a Cardiologist) has been bothersome yet rewarding in other aspects, for I never took exercize seriously.
Also, I do think that taking care of ourselves first is the right thing to do. If we are a dull tool, how can we be useful and fulfill our duties?
Hello, my dear friends! It’s almost the end of February, and I’m just now reading this thread. Being away from this interaction for so long makes me feel I’ve been hiding under a rock.
During February I finished Love Scout. It was a pleasant watch, especially since the ML had a manly vibe to him. I also appreciated his priorities, which put his daughter front and center in his life.
I’m almost done with Motel California. A major story arc hinges on a mixed-race child, which might be daring in Korean culture. Choi Min Soo, who plays the FL’s father, was a leading actor in South Korea pre-Hallyu, but notorious because in real life he’s hot tempered and has resorted to violence. Still, of all the cast, his performance catches my eye the most. He’s not only the son of two famous South Korean performers, but also the grandson of a famous actor/singer (who, incidentally, was nicknamed “Queen of Tears” for excelling in tragic dramas). He and his forebears remind me of the Barrymore dynasty.
I’m also only two episodes away from finishing the Cdrama Flourished Peony, but can’t seem to carve out the time to complete it. I had dropped it after a couple of episodes, but was convinced to give it another try. It did get better. I liked that the FL was pegged in various roles considered inferior in her society, yet she believed in herself and stood her ground, helping others and accepting help from others. She’s not superhuman, but intelligent and able to engage in teamwork.
I’ve stayed busy this month traveling to Seattle to care for my daughter’s cats while she and her husband were away. I love Seattle’s cultural offerings: I went to the symphony, special exhibits at two art museums, a talk by an art museum curator, a museum dedicated to aviation and space flight, a repertory theatre play, and an opera performance. I was amazed by Seattle Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and noted that the tenor who played Tamino, the ML, was Duke Kim, who hails from Seoul, South Korea. The bass who performed the role of Sarastro, In Sung Sum, was also from South Korea.
One of my afternoons in Seattle was spent at the Asian Art Museum, perusing a special exhibit of works collected by someone who focused on Korean art. The ages of the artwork ranged from the Silla period to modern. I found most interesting the whiteware ceramic pieces, both modern and from the Joseon era. They made me think of the Kdrama Mr. Sunshine, where I first learned of the high value of Korean white ceramics.
I’m probably going to be incommunicado another two weeks, at least, because I board a plane on Monday. I’m heading to Great Britain, visiting London and Edinburgh. While I’m in London, I’ll be getting together one day with @Fern, @Kate, @Phoenix, and @Cleopatra. We’re calling it our Bitchfest. We’re going to see a special exhibit by a South Korean artist at Tate Modern, then we’re going out for lunch. I can’t wait!
Nice, @Welmaris. Give my regards to the b-itches in London! 🙂
