The unbrella scene we commented on last time
We start at the beautiful scene that @GB analyzed last week.
A bit before, HS alone (flashback), explaining why she took the decision to go see Soo Ha under the rain.
I can’t remember from last week, but here we get HS’s thoughts without the mind-reading. I think this is one of the few times in the drama that we hear her thoughts this way, except, perhaps, when she is circling around and around in the office doorway.
SH with memory loss is so docile, hee cute.
Now she is so crabby with him.
Aaaayha, she says again a stupidity “you stay here only while you haven’t recovered your memory, then we don’t know each other”. What’s better to make him hides it if he gets his memory back? 😀
HS is concerned about SH, she has been so self-centered until now, one of the ways in which she is less mature than her age.
This woman is impossible. There is what she thinks and feels, and… what she says and does (total opposite).
then she is fascinated by him and wants to touch him!
It’s a bit of the forbidden love troupe don’t you think? He is so much younger than her, just barely out of high school.
HS is concerned about SH but still puts up a cold front. Maybe she could not accept the change in herself.
@SD, yes a 10-year difference and the guy is the younger one in this case. Socially uncommon pairing.
The actor who plays KW is so suited to the role.
@SD, she overdoes it a lot. Soo Ha has more maturity than her for some aspects. Reading mind is like being 30 years older (at least) than anyone else.
Why does lawyer Shin calls his car a sports car? Just because it has 2 doors, it does not look like a sports car to me.
I think the age difference weighs heavily on her.
It did on me in the first watch and I “shipped” KW.
I did wonder why the writer created such a large age gap when a lesser one would probably not have affectes the story as much. I do not remember any hue and cry about this in the media.
Now I think of him as so much older than his chronological years in his experience and intellect.
@WE Yes being abble to read minds would speed up one’s development.
@WE, I had not thought about that aspect of mind-reading and being exposed to everyone’s thoughts. We get a taste of it only a couple times in the drama, but no one is thinking noble thoughts, mostly petty ones. It would be easy to become jaded. Then too, SH was exposed to the extreme trauma of watching his father be murdered, and then the trauma of being abandoned by his uncle. He should be crazy though not mature!

I also think HS can be clumsy at times, an adult with ketchup on her face squatting in front of a refrigerator.
@SD, to my sens, it’s in real, she has a pride the size of a mountain!! Well, nothing new, she’s like that since the start of the drama. But she’s like that as an adult even more than when she was young (however it was right choice to choose child actress Kim So-Hyun, always playing rude girls these times).
The writer’s say about SH’s maturity.

Kwan-Woo sips a drink as Soo-Ha enters in a suit and tie, raising his hand.
KWAN-WOO: (waving) Hey! Over here~ (when Soo-Ha approaches, pulling out his wallet) What do you want to drink?
SOO-HA: (heading to the counter) I’ll buy my own.
KWAN-WOO: (awkwardly) Oh? Okay..
{Cut to}
Both sit facing each other with case files. (Kwan-Woo keeps his usual friendly smile until the last moment.)
KWAN-WOO: (reviewing files) Any new memories come up since then?
SOO-HA: Yes. I remember meeting Min Joon-Kook at a fishing spot, but not what we talked about or did.
KWAN-WOO: No fighting or anything?
SOO-HA: (shaking head) No, not that far..
KWAN-WOO: (writing) Doesn’t sound helpful for the appeal. Anything else?
SOO-HA: I think I got into a traffic accident after meeting Min Joon-Kook. It was some embankment road.. I think a blue truck hit me.
KWAN-WOO: (writing) Blue truck? One-ton?
SOO-HA: Yes. Around that size.
KWAN-WOO: (writing) This needs looking into. Remember the license plate?
SOO-HA: (shaking head) ..
KWAN-WOO: (writing) Then I’ll check police records for accidents. Hospital records too..
SOO-HA: (watching Kwan-Woo) Thank you. For taking this case..
KWAN-WOO: (still writing) No need to thank me. I’m doing it for Jjangbyun..
SOO-HA: (irritated by ‘Jjangbyun’) How much is the fee? It’s private, not public, so there’s a fee, right?
KWAN-WOO: (soothingly) Hey! I’m free as a public defender, but super expensive privately. Take the free offer while it’s there. Focus on your memories.
SOO-HA: (serious) Don’t treat me like a kid. I’ll pay the fee, so do it as work. Leave Attorney Jang out of it..
KWAN-WOO: (looking at Soo-Ha) !?
SOO-HA: I’ve got a house my dad left and insurance money. I’ll pay. So..
KWAN-WOO: ..
SOO-HA: (declaring war) Don’t burden Attorney Jang with this case.
KWAN-WOO: ! (slowly closing the file, clasping hands over it, looking at Soo-Ha) Isn’t it you burdening Jjangbyun?
SOO-HA: !!
KWAN-WOO: (dropping the chuckle, sternly) Soo-Ha, stop pretending to be an adult and act like one. Wearing a suit doesn’t make you grown-up.
SOO-HA: (flushing at Kwan-Woo’s jab) !!
KWAN-WOO: Right now, you’re a high school dropout, a murder suspect with no memory or future. That’s why Jjangbyun’s taking care of you. Don’t mistake it for something else. And..
@SD yES, I almost wrote above that it would mature him if he did not go crazy FIRST.

@MM, the age gap helps to give resistance to the romance. Indeed, it’s a fact HS can rely on (even if she doesn’t feel like that). But as a convention, it gives her a reason to act against her desire.

The door falls off his car just the way his teeth fall out! Maybe he is self conscious about aging so it is a sports car! He does not want to be stereotyped.

@WE, exactly! The age gap gives resistance to the romance and therefore a story can be spun around it.
“Will I be able to win… this fight?” Nice line. Poor Lawyer Cha has just, foolishly, offered to be the lawyer for the the next trial. It is both that fight and the fight for the heart of HS, as he realizes just how closely the lives of HS and SH are intertwined.
AAaahhh, a resto scene forcing HS and DO-Yeon in a public meeting. I salivate…

I like how HS finds Shin in the revolving door and appropriates it as only her move!!!
HS and DY get drunk LOL and reveal their long standing feud and relationship.
I am going to be behind even earlier than normal. I just saw two fox kits in my suburban back yard and had to watch them play. I thought I saw a mangy female earlier this week — now I realize it was probably Momma Fox
I mistyped in my comment. I was wondering why the age gap is 10 years when it could have been 6, let’s say and would have the same relevance to the romance without alienating audiences as much, which this tends to do big time!

Attorney Cha can be a Hyung for Soo-Ha, helping him to be more mature. But it’s also two ways. I remember moments when Cha is overplayed by a more mature Soo-Ha at times. Cha playing “I’m the adult and you are a boy” backfires often.
We see more backstory of Hye Sung as a teen getting her phone back from the judge. The phone had not captured a picture of the murder. HS was worried that she’d lied to bring the criminal to justice. Judge says it was fine to do that. It was a *scare tactic*. He even lumps Do Yeon’s lie that HS had shot the firework into her eye as a scare tactic to catch the culprit. This ex-Judge is quite despicable. He is doing what is wrong but which cannot be caught by the ‘law’ and letting his daughter do the same, calling it a scare tactic when it was much worse. It probably led to HS being more bitter, cynical and jaded early on.
About relative levels of maturity. She is such a child raiding the fridge at night.
@MM, true about the relative maturity level of HS and SH. In many ways, SH had to be the adult sooner than HS did.

Hi @GB! This is the first time I have realized we had foxes. They have been hiding. I think the den must be just up the hill. We just had a raccoon in our garage for the first time just this week as well.

@SD, I believe raccoons are the more destructive of the 2 kinds of creatures in your back yard!!

Heh @FF, I’m at the part where SH finds a sleeping HS outside her apartment. Unlike her, he has no qualms touching her while she’s asleep.
He gets to see the knife scar on her abdomen, but he cannot recall that he had caused that wound himself.
@MM, I guess you get wildlife at your place too?
The anguish the man must have felt after meeting his “late” wife and having served life imprisonment for killing her.
@FF The conversation in the cafe harkens back to KW’s musings earlier about wanting HS to be obligated to him. very well done dialog.
I am behind now and have not read all the comments so there may be more about this conversation.
About the relative maturity, SH is the more mature caregiver, cooking to cure HS’s hangover. He also addresses head-on her reluctance to look him in the eye and eat with him. That’s mature! She’s avoidant and somewhat immature in that attitude.
However she’s being schooled by the kid!

@GB, I think this is not the first time SH carries HS. He is openly in love with her, even ask her about the scar and tells her straight not to come home late just to avoid running into him. He is very candid, and he knows what he wants.

Oh dear, once the ‘friends’ of Killer Min give him something nice he thinks about killing them!!! Now fruit seller lady has put herself into danger.
The vegetable seeler sealed her death by herself. She lied to justice, but karma punishment is higher!

@FF, now we see Cha seriously investigating. He’s found the guy who took in Soo Ha after accidentally hitting him with his truck.
@GB, be kind with the bad guy, and he strikes back deadly. We have that with the umbrella scene in Castaway Diva. A thematic the writer likes to use.
We now know that Min knows about SH’s loss of memory. So he’s been biding his time. But first, he kills the fruit seller lady so that she cannot speak officially to the Prosecution.
lawyer Shin SH says he is way past the age for male menapause.
I had not noticed this running commentary on his age the first watch.
@GB, that actress is one of my favorite ajumma’s as well!
Re: the fox den, we are on the edge of the “city”, near a reservoir and small airport and lots of farms, and treed gullies, so lots of habitat. Just no foxes until now (white-tailed deer daily). And @MM is right, wild-life have become more used to settled areas.
@GB @WE, so Min Jung Kook killed the fruit seller eventually. And finally, the prosecution side is seriously doing the investigation.
@MM we only get stray cats from time to time and other less endearing critters!!
Now Prosecution investigates as well and decides that Min is alive and needs to be arrested.
@WE, I cannot remember Castaway Diva much. But likely a repeated motif with this writer.
Now SH gets back his memories!!! Everything comes rushing back in a series of flashbacks for us. His head is exploding.
@MM Lawyer Shin provides some levity with false teeth and oldest ‘sports’ car we’ve ever seen.
@GB, I have civet cats at my area, and they are huge, only show up at night walking on power cable.
@SD, then the wildlife are changing and becoming less wild, I imagine. They allow humans to come closer to them than they would normally?
It’s painful to get his memory back for SH.
I need to read the script for the scene when Soo-Ha fully remembers. It’s intense. I’m curious to know how the writer turned that.
Ooh @FF, we don’t see civet cats here, but during covid time when I walked about more, I saw monitor lizards in a nearby canal, a monkey, squirrels. Fortunately not in my yard!!!
The first thing that HS wants to do when she hears that Min is alive is to tell SH and rejoice with him. She does not think of herself first for a change!!! That’s love.
I just watched a video of a coyote very adeptly dodging a car here in my city. A really funny video a few weeks ago showed a coyote and a geese having it out on a sidewalk.
We also live near a river valley in the west end of the city so we see wildlife regularly, including raptors and deer. Makes gardening more of a challenge but it is reassuring that nature still exists!
@WE, Yes that was an intense scene and so long!!!
We see that SH thinks of HS first just as she thinks of him first when they know Min is alive.
@WE, that script would be interesting. Does the writer detail all the memories? Suggest the look on SH’s face?
No cliffhanger, instead ends with an big emotional moment.

@WE, rather “You’re more important to me than my life is although I know my killer is on the loose!!” SH did not interpret this at this time as her loving him, but he must have appreciated it after all the rebuffs he’s had from her and his own uncle.
I didn’t realize that just after Lawyer Shin says “People say that coincidences are god’s will”, we flash to poor Hwang Dal Jung running into his ‘dead’ wife at the hospital. Nice.
@GB, yeah, I’m not precise with lines, so thank to reformulate it in a better way. 😉

@SD, yes, dramas do a lot of nice reveals of what’s going on by putting those kinds of scenes together. So Hwang is going to die from brain tumour soon but karma/fate or ‘God’s will’ has it that he must meet his ‘dead’ wife first!!
@WE, I wonder if I have time to read that part of the script. I’d like to know how the long flashbacks are written in.
Just so funny how the two women, who have just remembered their more embarrassing moments from the night before AND realized they brought the SAME expensive hand bag to work, automatically shift the bags to the other side after they enter the elevator. They look like twins.
This episode has multiple small humorous moments, i.e., also the one with Lawyer Shin getting dizzy in the revolving door.

@WE, what was powerful was that script!!! I found the part and it really listed all possible scenes for the flashback, SH’s expressions and actions. It played out quite in line with the script. So effective and powerful!
Then the part I didn’t quite catch… that SH is surprised and grateful that HS is more concerned about him than about herself. He can read her thoughts now again. So he knows a little about how dear he is to her and that’s why he backhugs her. Now we wait for him to know how deeply she cares about him.
@WE, I just read the script also. Wow! All these short hand notations for the scenes, all of them there!
