Hi @pkml3! Thanks for this thread!
LOL I like that racing gif. Yes, Episode 17 is most certainly our ‘Finish’ line. Phew! What a marathon, and a good one!
Unlike those little kiddies, though, we’ll be ploughing past the line to dig deep, the making of ‘W’ and what its creators had in mind. 🙂
Thank you @Packmule3!
Yes, this is the last episode for our little rewatch party!
So happy to do that we all our B.O.D. friends!
See ya all tomorrow!
Kalispera!
I am here but I have a problem. I can’t longer find on Viki Episode 17!
Hi @Cleo, oh dear!!! No more Episode 17?
@Cleo, If you don’t mind going to Dramanice… it still has Ep 17.
@GB Unnie no more! 😪
@Hi Cleo and GB.
Cleo, try to find this on a streaming website. We’ll wait before to go.
I search on my side. I give you the link on MDL when I find it.
Thank you @We!
@Cleo, I checked Dramanice and can stream it from there. I believe @WE is right, streaming sites probably still have Ep 17.
Waiting for you. No hurry. I’m trying to finish Yumi’s Cells.
I think I might found something…Let us see…
I send you a link on dramacool. 😉
check MDL
I just started the coffee brewing. I can wait too.
Hi @salteddust!
@Hi salteddust.
Hey GB, could you download the “final stage” from google drive? did it worked?
Okay, I found a video with low quality!
We can start and I can pray it will play ! LOL
Hey @salteddust!
@WE, you left a link to The Final Stage in MDL? Sorry, I didn’t see the link. Let me check.
@Cleo, go to MDL, see my message, with a good quality.
@GB, yes, I sended you on MDL. I put this on a google drive because it’s too complicated to find it on web.
Hi @GB! Hi @WE! Hi @Cleo
@Cleo: click on the screw to switch to 720p
Thank you @WE!
We can start @GB Unnie and @Salteddust!
Hi @Cleo, OK we can start!!!
Got it
@WE, I think I downloaded the zip files. Trying to extract the files but maybe I tried too soon. Will try again later and let you know.
ok I launch
they say “logical connexion”. It’s that!!!
I haven’t watched this before!
The first 20 minutes are a resume of the drama with some comments.
There is a narrator, then during the next part, it’s Soo Bong the narattor.
@WE I am watching the resume…
I note something fun, they put the story in the chronological order. (Sung-Moo stab KCH before YJ goes in W).
@WE @Cleo, I’m amazed that they can squeeze 16 episodes so thoroughly in a 20++ minutes summary. Rather well done!
I am enjoying the summary. KC’s direct question to OSM
@GB, yeah.. it’s a crazy synopsis to do. Not easy to choose what is revelant.
I am enjoying it as well!
And the search for YJ is on!
Was Korean drama really ‘separated by before and after W’ or is that just hyperbole?
@salteddust. Good question. I don’t recall that there was a before or after ‘W’ in the show.
@salteddust, I think it comes from the W scenarist Song Jae jung, but it started before (nine time travel). From there, dramas started to create complex fiction. But now I remember, it probably started after W. We need to look a the chronology.
I now realized that the voice of the killer is the one of the jakkanim…o.O
@salteddust you are right I think..
@WE, @Cleo, … Show never does explain how KC knew that YJ was the key to his life, did it?
And ‘YJ’ figuring out the logic of the webtoon before it gets serious! ‘So does it end when there is a dramatic cliffhanger’. First the slap and then the kiss. Still love that scene.
@GB the moment KC decided that YJ was the key to his life, she became the key heroine…
9 time travel is 2013. I wonder if SJJ took inspiration from Christopher Nolan, as Inception is 2010, and Memento before. We have this kind of complex logic and chronological changes for scenes order. What adds more SJJ are “multi contextual scenes”, emotion trigered by the high concept (in short, the audience make the sens themselve because we know the concept, so understand what it trigger in the scene, and the emotion with that).
Thanks @Cleo, however, why did he decide that she was the key is the mystery. It was just his great instinct?
@GB,
Because she saved him, but he didn’t remember he brought her in W.
@GB, the drama don’t explain “key of my life”, but we can know why: he remembers he grabbed Yeon Joo from a small dimensionnal portal (the same he grabbed Sung Moo before). It’s why he shoot YJ (because, like OSM he knows she won’t be hurt).
@WE when he was on the hospital, I don’t think he was remembering. Later on, he did remember…
@WE, however grabbing OSM did not get KC to consider him the key to his life. And OSM was the more active artist/writer. So I find it strange that KC focused on YJ instead of on her father, for instance.
@GB, the difference with OSM, YJ save him, lol!
@Cleo: we need to rewatch the drama to be sure. 🙂
I do remember Memento getting a lot of press for the backward narrative. I did a quick look up; there are references to an earlier film based on a play by Harold Pinter.
Also wondering if the execution of this drama with it’s easy movement back and forth from the film to the drawings is new.
My hypothesis is he remembers, else he wouldn’t shoot YJ. (in the heart! in the script).
@WE he did remember but I am saying not when he was on the hospital…
@salteddust. Memento is full backward. But W is more chaotic, lot of ponctual backward. And a full one a serie of flashback (when he find the volume 34 in W). But what I means is mostly “uses complex scene order” than just copy Memento.
I think KC can do practically everything but he cannot draw things into existence using the drawing tablet. However, HCH the other villain was able to call up drawings in the tablet and get them to appear in ‘W’.
At the end of the table: the director and scenarist.
Now, I am in the second part. We see when they were filming.
It’s too hot. We get very warm light in the drama. The director used that!
The point where Real Culprit shows up has almost this disconnect to it, as though it does not fit in the plot, as though it was not meant to happen (and it does not, of course, fit with the romantic plot), but it that jarring-does-not-fit-with-the-scene aspect makes it so effective.
I still find new things to notice! And that’s just with the drama itself, totally ignoring the philosophical/gedanken thought experiment aspect that makes it so fun.
There are gossip about a Jong Suk / Hyo Joo relationship. It’s possible but after watching the BTS, in this case, I could say: Jung Suk wanted something serious but not Hyo Joo. 🙂
It’s because the actor said “she’s my ideal type”. 🙂
Poor Lee Si Eun had so much to say, such hard work but he is not given much attention.
@WE,
I have read it as well.
I’m getting that kind of weather and heat here now!!! Just keep perspiring unless the a/c is on. I feel for them. Acting in that heat.
Poor LJS had a hard time too. ‘Why did I sign up for this?’ LOL. Felt like a mistake. 😂
It’s so hot, why is HHJ dancing? LOL. I’d keep very still to keep cool.
Hyo Joo runs out of the room so much this kiss was TOO MUCH!!!!
The kisses scenes… 😛
Jong Suk has a very sensual way to do kiss.
LOL, no wonder why the girls love so much this actor. 🙂
I like him too, but not for the same reasons.
Fortunately the slapping scene took only 1 take. Otherwise LJS would have had a red cheek!
The first kiss was cute. He couldn’t stop himself from automatically responding.
@WE it was too much indeed….
It was too hot in there afterwards 😛
LOL @WE. We can like LJS for lots of reasons and not to do with his kissing style.
Soo-Bong little step backward was added in th e drama.
Note the fake glasses!!
For a weird reasons there was a fashion and people think it’s more cool to have glasses (fake ones if needed).
If you watched the drama “Penthouse” there are a lot of “special episodes” like this one. And they are awesome.
I like this part about the artists drawing the manhwa.
Oh yes, I liked to see the real manhwa artists at work. They did so much drawing. So many books were actually printed. Wonder what happened to them.
As it takes too much time to draw, I use a photoshop add-on to make the “manhwa image from real picture” in season 2. In short: You apply the effect on a photo, and it transform it in a comics book image.
@GB: If you bought the special release of the DVD drama, limited edition: you get a real W manhwa with that (volume 34 or 35, I don’t remember). But now… Only a very few people got that. It’s a collector piece, impossible to find now. Sadly, I didn’t get it. T T
@WE, it’s interesting that they deliberately change the actors face a bit so that it can more realistically a webtoon character and not just a representation of a real person.
Found it so cute that an artist had to specialise in kiss scenes.
I really like the documentary with all those scenes…
Now, I got in the wonder part with the webtoon artists.
@Cleo, now the special effects. The CG was a lot for a kdrama.
@Cleo, we get an idea of the difficulty about directing. No wonder why they gave up on the idea to make zombi Sung-Moo a “black silhouette” as it was mentionned in the script. Too complicated.
There are so many people involved in the production @GB Unnie,
It is good to watch all those who did the job and need the credit as well…
@WE, @Cleo, I didn’t know so much manual work went into the effects as well. Like the car moving and the stop action scenes.
@GB Unnie,
We are not involved in the industry so we don’t know that much, still every team does a lot…
Omo that Kang Chul’s head bang hard on the floor…LOL
@Cleo, OUCH! They should provide him a kind of protection in the back of the head.
I do like the way they show each scene as it is being filmed — all the bits and pieces – and then show the actual shot from the drama. I have a much clearer sense of both the actual breaks in the filming (where you could see someone’s leg, where you can now see the whole room) and how smoothly it goes together. I don’t know that I have actually seen that before in a drama or movie I know well enough to follow.
@WE true!
Hi @WE, @Cleo, @salteddust…
As it’s half an hour to midnight for me here, I’ve decided to post the results of our next rewatch party. It is in the ‘Uncategorized’ category LOL. Please see the question I put in at the thread below and let me know what you think.
https://bitchesoverdramas.com/2022/06/20/next-drama-for-the-rewatch-party/#comment-89232
And it is over for me… !
Thank you @WE, @GB Unnie and @salteddust for the company all those SAturdays…I don’t forget @Welmaris, @FGB, @Carolina and @Janey
Komsamida!
@Cleo, I was actually surprised that they didn’t have a cushion for LJS to let his head fall back on. So much suffering!
@GB, I read your post, I will add precisions for schedule.
@Cleo, yes, I’ve finished watching as well.
Thanks to everyone for a fun rewatch party!
Please look up the link above on the next Rewatch Party voting results!!
@WE, thank you. Yes, I’m pretty vague on the schedule. I feel we just start with Season 1 of Liar Game and then decide as we watch, how we feel about continuing.
This post production episode really seems like it was filmed in 3 parts. Was it shown on TV after W ended? Is it typical to have this sort of ‘how did we do this’ episode for Korean dramas or was W special?
@GB Unnie,
Yes they should have a cushion or something else!
I did end this wishing I could buy the actual books or look at it on my phone!
@salteddust we can still buy the book about the couple!
@salteddust, in my limited experience, it is not usual to have such a big ‘Making Of’ show at the end of a series. There might have been one or two others that I noticed but I can’t recall which. This one was a full scale BTS show with explanations. It was rather well done!
It ended!! ahhhahh. T T
For anyone with interest in the Season 2 screenplay: I think episode 13 is needed and I will work on the photo-montage soon. If you want to start reading (or rather “watching”), you can click on my name, it goes on my blog with the drama. But episode 12 is a harsh cliffhanger (like in all episodes), so maybe it’s better to wait, then I say you when episode 13 is over. There is a cliffhanger too, but I think this one can be endured in a better way.
@pkml3, I see that this thread is still under .Uncategorized’. Please put it into the ‘W’ category so that we can find it in the future. Thank you!!
I agree @GB! I enjoyed the show on how everything was done (and appreciated the recap at the beginning). I am not quite done (somehow I am always slow!), but I have really enjoyed spending my Saturday mornings this way (of course, the kitchen island around my computer gets really messy and the laundry gets done late, LOL).
Thank you for a wonderful few months.
@Cleo: There’s a book?
@salteddust, you know the book on the little things of love, “Love is” by Puuung that YJ liked? … she flagged so many pages of it. It really does exist. There is more than one volume of it. I borrowed it from my library and enjoyed the detailed drawings in them.
I forgot to paste the Amazon link to that book:
https://www.amazon.sg/Love-1-small-things/dp/B08GFTLK96/ref=asc_df_B08GFTLK96/?tag=googleshoppin-22&linkCode=df0&hvadid=404337253132&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6080899805833512717&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9062519&hvtargid=pla-949344633098&psc=1
@Salteddust about the sweet things a couple can do! There are two books
Oh that one! How could I forget! It is in my Amazon Wish List somewhere…
Look at that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://youtu.be/6L4oW109QwI?t=861
Sigh…. Episode 34 looks really cool, really professional.
@salteddust – Alas, I’m not a cheabol. Else, I would hire people and say them: buy this manhwa at any cost! You have “carte blanche”. 🙂
@WE: Just saw this. Ha ha. Me too. But alas…
Hi all. I thought I would share another poem I wrote. I am new to writing poems, but enjoyed spending time with you all so here you are:
Diptych II: Shared meal with S** and K**
It is more difficult to write of happiness;
more difficult than to write of joy
sharp in the hot sun.
Happiness is a thousand seconds of
laughter chasing wine,
and sweet egg roll in the lunchbox
okasan made me every day for school
the summer the cicadas clicked
and buzzed high above
with the air,
a moist and loving embrace.
Happiness is wandering through
the Hiroshima street market
as dusk fell, trying meat on a stick
as my sisters hugged their mother
and giggled;
Happiness is otosan carefully
explaining the best combination
of sushi and wasabi;
is driving through
a city of temples with an
art loving taxi driver
as otosan translates.
Happiness is fresh lefsa stacked on the sideboard
and flour covered faces;
is getting your father and mother
lightly tipsy and watching them
relax into their younger selves;
is your son dropping his bike to the ground
as he rushes to greet you after a long day.
Happiness is shared food and laughter,
meeting briefly after many years;
happiness is a burst of flavor
as you bite down on the Brussels sprouts
that you expected to be bitter,
not buttery and sweet.
Happiness is more difficult to write of than joy,
more difficult to write of than sorrow;
more difficult
because it is too warm and cozy;
more difficult
to write of
because it
is
too brief.
My dear @salteddust, I am so touched by your poem. My eyes water, my nose is pink. How wonderful, how true and I wish I had some of those instances. I look for my own.
Thank you so much for sharing your poem with us. 😄 😍
We’ll see you in the next Rewatch in September or so!!
Deaer @GB. Thank you. I am new to writing poems and to sharing them. So I appreciate you’re being willing to let me know how you felt. I will see you in September!
I don’t give up about to post some script examples of last episodes, like I did before. But I don’t have time now. I will do it later.
@WE have a good vacation!! Yes, I know you will post the script when you are free. I’ll look out for it. Take care!
