Chicken or the egg?
I sometimes wonder what the correlation is between these Couple Holidays and kdramas’ obsession for “events” and over-the-top love declaration. Did Couple Holidays inspire kdramas to stage elaborate proposal scenes or did kdramas prompt couples to outdo themselves in celebrating their love?
Whatever it is, I’m glad that I’m married and too old for this dating scene in SK because the sheer number of anniversaries and special days a girlfriend has to remember would have turned me into a nervous wreck. I’d be so terrible at organizing “events” that if I had an Oppa, he’d feel neglected. Sooner or later, his parents would pressure him to dump me for a normal gal from Seoul National University.
So what’s a plucky bitch like me going to do?
With the help of kdramas, I could make Cliffsnotes™ to remind me of these Couple Holidays.
1. January 14: Diary Day
Buy a leather journal for Oppa embossed with the words, “Because This is Our First Life” so he can chronicle our adventures and pen his thoughts to share with our future grandkids.
2. February 14: Valentine’s Day
Give Oppa some Royce chocolates like in “Strong Woman Do Bong Soo” and get a ppo-ppo. #crazyPPL #obvious #everybodyknows
3. March 3rd: Sampyusal Day
The number 3 “sam” is pronounced the same way as the first syllable of sampyusal. Treat Oppa to first rate sampyusal that even the “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Ju” and her teammates would approve of.
4. March 14: White Day
Looking forward to the white chocolate and jewelry that Oppa will give. I just hope it’s real diamond and not Swarovski crystal just like in “Jugglers.”
5. April 14: Black Day
For single people only. Good thing I’m skipping jjajangmyun with the resident potty-mouth of“Reply 1994,” Na-Jung.
6. May 14: Yellow Day/Rose Day
I know. I know couples must dress up in yellow and give each other roses. But, Oppaaaaah, look at “W.” We, too, look better in pink sweatshirts and Ben and Jerry ice cream >> a dozen roses.
7. June 14: Kiss Day
Mental note: practice kissing Oppa by watching my favorite kisses on YT like this one from “Warm and Cozy.”
8. July 14: Silver Day
Any ring will do as long as we don’t bicker over it like the OTP in “Cinderella and Four Knights.”

9. August 14: Green Day
Oppaya, instead of a romantic walk in the forest, let’s visit the lush countryside of “The Vineyard Man” and pick some grapes.
10. September 14: Photo Day/Music Day
On this day, I’d like to have our portrait taken in hanbok like in “My Sassy Girl” so I can mail them out as Christmas cards. Couple Christmas Cards.
11. October 14: Wine Day
Cocktails, wine, liquor. Soju, makeolli, maekjoo. Whatever it is, I can drink like a fish. But I insist on a piggy back ride from Oppa even when I’m not drunk. Like in the “Coffee Prince.”
Wheee!
12. November 11: Peperro Day
“Oh my Venus!” I want Oppa to be as cool as So Ji Sub in this celery kiss.
13. November 14: Movie Day
I want date a movie date with Oppa as long as he isn’t a scaredy-cat like Dokkaebbi.
14. December 14: Hug Day
Ditto what the gifs say —

Bitches challenge! Do you associate certain drama scenes with the Couple Holidays?
Woooooow.. so many additional holiday dates.. me liking kdrama logic here hahahahahahaha
I don’t have any special scenes that I can associate with couple holidays.. they are mostly the common ones like Christmas, valentine, white day.. etc
oh wait….
This is actually not really “holiday” only a bit related, it’s korean custom to celebrate 100, 300, 500, 1000 etc days of their dating… so apparently according to It’s Okay It’s Love on their 300th days the heroin and her scumbag ex supposedly would be having sex their first intercourse. Should i assume that 300th day -versarry as ”let’s make love” day ?
Yadda yadda woohoo… 😍😍😍😍
I mean the heroine instead of heroin…
Richard Simmon typo…..
I know about the 100 days, 300 days, because I used to watch WGM. The fans of the fake couple keep count of the 100th day anniversary because they send gifts to the WGM couples.
That was all so bizarre to me, but I’ve learned to accept it. I asked my son who’s dating a Korean-American whether his girlfriend demanded celebrations on their 100th day anniversary (it really should be like 2000th day anniversary because they’ve been together forever). My son thought the idea was ridiculous and no, his GF isn’t into kpop, “couple items,” aegyo, “oppa!” and kdramas. But she’s in med school so she probably doesn’t have time to watch kdramas.
BTW, here’s an anniversary calculator.

Hmmm…I have to rewatch Jugglers again. The female lead had been in a long-term relationship, 2000 days, I believe. I just discovered that that was a 7 year relationship. She was practically married to that ex.
OMG.. I have fun with the calculator… when I told my hubby that Nov 3, 2018 will be our 6000th days we know each other (yes I still keep record the date I first met/introduced to him.. I’m weird 😅) he just stared at me with no expression. Maybe he thought another strange thing my wife find in internet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is Juggler good?
Okay, if you love bewildering your husband just to see him struggle to keep a stone-face expression, then you’ll love Jugglers. The heroine’s irresistible, and the guy struggled to remain reserved and inscrutable with her. It’s like “She Was Pretty” but the hero isn’t an abusive screaming psycho. I’d be sued if I treated my colleagues like that. It also helps that both leads are attractive. Baek Jinho is perky and her eyes are emotive. Choi Daniel is a find. Ask TripleM. She’s a numero uno fan of CD. He reminds me of Clark Kent with his black-rimmed glasses.
😞I can’t remember when I first met my husband. I don’t pay much attention to men as they come and go like New Year’s Eve sparklers. However, I didn’t expect my husband to become a bonfire. Lol. I kept him then.
Hmmm. Maybe I’ll post on Jugglers Episode 1 next. I held off posting because I often include spoilers in my posts and there are still people who haven’t watched it. But maybe some “companion notes” are needed now. I knew the director and writer were witty when the female was shown in the taxi trying to “juggle” her bouncing cellphone and failed. The cellphone flew out the window. Jugglers are supposed to juggle three, four, five things in the air without breaking sweat. But here she was, trying to juggle only two things: work and dating life, and she was already dropping (literally dropped. She pushed her date off the bed.) things. See that? The metaphor of the jugglers matches both the image created by the scene, and the balancing act the heroine had failed to do. Whether the viewers grasped all these or not, is another matter. 😀
