I haven’t watched The Great Seducer but go ahead and give me the spoilers if you want to vent.
Did SH turn bad? Is he dead already? Did TaeHee cry over him? Did SJoo turn bad? Is SJ slinking away under the rock?
I don’t think SH/SJoo + SJ will be anything as evil as the Valmont + the Marquise duo in the original Les Liaisons Dangereuses, so go ahead and shock me.
BTW, this is the standard of cruelty that I’m expecting of Valmont.
He repeats, “It’s beyond my control,” as ordered by the Marquise. The Marquise wants Madame de Tourvel destroyed because she can’t stand that another woman had taken over her plaything, Valmont. (Sounds like SooJi, right?) In this movie adaptation, Valmont actually fell in love with Madame de Tourvel, but he needs to end their liaison before it’s become dangerous for her. Each time he says the words, “It’s beyond my control,” he’s trying to convince both Madame de Tourvel AND himself that the situation is indeed out of his hand. He’s breaking up with her in a most despicable manner (he flings her across the room and grabs her by the hair), but he’s also breaking up with his own sense of humanity and decency. Don’t just look at the scene, and say, “Oooh! What a bastard!” Understand, too, that he’s carving out his heart while stabbing at hers.
It’s not shown here, but when he leaves the room, he leans against the door as if composing himself. He hears her sobbing, then staggers out.
This is the kind of tragedy I’m expecting from the scriptwriter and the actors of The Great Seducer. But since the director and writer of this kdrama have given so much nuance, context, and pitiful background stories to the characters, I doubt that they’ll truly cast SJ, SH, and SJoo to the devil.
Will try to catch up on this week’s episodes sometime tomorrow. But feel free to rage here. 😀

Yes, I posted something on my new fave, A Poem a Day, but I accidentally made a hash of everything when I edited. It combined with another commentary I was working on. lol. I’ll re-post when I get back from my dinner. See you later!!
“BTW, this is the standard of cruelty that I’m expecting of Valmont.” pretty sure we’ll have none of this :).. Anyway.. I’ve only seen episode 17&18 so far buut what I care about is that I should catch up with A Poem a Day because I want to read what you’re written about it. I saw 3 episodes. About The Great Seducer the only spoiler I will share is that SH’s father just lost more points (if that was possible). He has a conversation with TH’s mum in which she says she knows he’s getting married and she doesn’t want him to do this to her again and the nice man is like “I know that I’m a jerk, and this sounds crazy. Can you just let me come by and see you… from time to time? Even if it’s… just for a few months.” Loveleh
Spoilers well mayby Sj talk with Sh “father” and telling him that she and Sh want to married and she knows about pottery lady affair.her mother anger about the whole situation.crazy drunkeness Th at Sejoo restaurant.what was funny Th shouting to open fride Sh you jerk.her friend Kj got “dumped” by Sejoo and Th visted halmonis and her ugly cry there.there wasdn’t anythig shocking any cruellness like in the movie.that was it more or less.
I just think everybody is bipolar. Including the writer and PD. Except the editor, (s)he is tripolar (or more?).
Nothing as cruel as that lol
I’m over people questioning TH’s character as if reacting to someone breaking your heart when you thought everything was going well makes you weak… I for one want SH to see what he’s done to her. He should see how the games he’s used to playing can cause people such pain.
They still haven’t unveiled the bet though I think I may know how they will do it. Since the nutcase is still insisting on marrying SH.
Also the fact that sooji drives now all of sudden freaked me out a little, because the other day I thought of something but thought naaa it can’t happen cause sooji can’t drive… lol
There’s one thing from Monday’s episode and tuesdays episode that Sejoo said and I’m not here for it.
Kyungjoo failed her friend and TH’s the one comforting her…ok lol
Just finished watching Ep 11. And the breakup scene/public humiliation of TH wasn’t as cruel as the Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
I’m assuming the line, “I feel uncomfortable” repeated by SH was meant to be the equivalent of Valmont’s “It’s beyond my control.”
“I feel uncomfortable” is tame. I like how the director tried to make the scene look dark and sinister. But it didn’t work for me. I guess because I know it was a trap so I was emotionally psyching myself to see how evil looks like. The director’s answer: evil looks black and moody. And leather-y.
🙄
In the original movie, that scene was powerful because you would NOT expect a despicable act done in the midst of such refinement. Elegant clothes and furnishings = classic taste. But the characters are embroiled in a sordid affair and even a more sordid bet. The contrast had impact because you wouldn’t expect a betrayal to happen there of all places.
But in our kdrama, the second I saw the venue, I thought “Oh! It’s a frat house.” Lol.
