Episode 9: Height
Height
by Yoo Ahn Jin
I’m ashamed to say that until now
I only cried for myself.
My most painful cries
Still only come out for myself.
How much older do I need to get to grow a bigger heart
And how much taller does my heart need to get
Before I can cry for someone else?
My eyes can only see myself
On the most sorrowful days.
My ears can only hear my laugh
On the most happy days.
I’ve never realized how imperfect my heart is.
I’m embarrassed and ashamed.
MinHo says: You’re selfish? I’m really the selfish one. Even though I decided to wish you the best, hearing that it didn’t work out between you and Dr. Ye makes me feel relieved.
The other poem mentioned in this episode is also interesting because I think it’s a set-up for a parody….
Me
by Kim Yong Taek
As I think of you
If I look at the mountains on a rainy day in May
I run out of breath completely
Please have me before I run out of breath.
This is Boyoung’s voiceover. She was peeking at him from the glass window in the office.
But you know why I find this hilarious? Because I think the director is trolling us. You see, exactly before this scene, Namwon was teasing MinHo about a song. He was hiding behind the curtain. Here’s that annoying line from the song:
Marsh
by Jo Gan Woo
When I first laid my eyes on her, she was another man’s wife
I looked at her through the opening between my curtains.
Namwon teased MinHo three times that day about that line: lunch, afternoon and before going home. To me, when a director or writer repeats himself THREE times, I better pay attention. It’s a waste of production time to do things thrice just for the heck of it or just for comic relief. There’s a purpose when manpower and show minutes are spent on “innocent” scenes.
Do you see the joke? NamWon was parodying BoYoung.
Unbeknownst to her, she too was looking at man who’s already been “taken” by another woman. When SHE first laid her eyes on Dr. Ye, he was already another woman’s lover, just like in the lyrics. pwahahaha.
I do like it that MinHo stopped Namwon’s provocation by suffocating him. It tells me that NO, he didn’t like the idea at all that his girl’s taken. If he hadn’t reacted that way, then that would be an indicator for me that he was indeed letting go. Remember this happened after that episode on “Point of No Return.”
Really. The song isn’t applicable to MinHo.
Wow, so fast @packmule3……. thank you very much!!! I didn’t mean it “had” to be done now, but I do appreciatte A LOT the effort. 🙂 I’ll enjoy the poems very much (and the drama). 🙂
