Damn it! That’s exactly what we’ve been saying. If this writer had been fair to the character to begin with, he would have made that fateful accident with the motorcycle back in Episode 11. MinHo was supposed to have won the contest but Ye MOVED Boyoung to another place closer to HIM so MinHo had to go a farther distance to get to her and had that motorcycle accident.
That’s the writer deliberately cock-blocking his own character MinHo. What the heck?? He made MinHo a pathetic clod, then a childish jerk in the last few episodes. For what??

Actor Jang Dong Yoon appreciation post..
But I m already looking forward to Jang Dong Yoons next drama. I hope he goes for the lead. I’ve noticed since his start/ debut on the web drama and then on solomon’s perjury he chose complex characters who show various emotions. The ones with tough exteriors but soft, warm hearts. I recently watched his drama special with Chae Soo Bin, I hope these two reunite sometime, they had such excellent chemistry. I also want Jang Dong Yoon to get an award, his acting is outstanding , he can make you hate him or love him to the core. Unlike the other actor- I have no feelings for you nor am I anticipating your next project…
On another note, did you know that Dong Yoon shi is a economics major at Hanyang University? He won a medal for protecting citizens against a robbery at the seoul national police association. after that he received love calls from agencies and a year later made his debut as an actor.

Yes. I read that he graduated with an econ degree from HanYang, and that his quick thinking was instrumental in stopping a robbery at a small grocery store. My understanding was he had seen the knife so phoned in the robbery and asked for the location of the robbery from the cashier. The police came quickly because they knew were to go.

He’s also served in the military so he can pursue acting.

From episodes i have watched i agree BY is sympathetic to her patients and some people around her but she is also self centered at the same time. Actually the drama is very clear on what she feels for Minho. He was the one who hurt her deeply that it went on for many years. Her love and her ego were both hurt that when she met Ye she literally forced herself to develop that infatuation on him. Just to get back..well perhaps to.move on from Minho who unexpectedly showed up again in her life. As if she must at all cost fall in love with Ye who is so stiff.

I felt like the Ye actor did a good job in the beginning, but once he had to portray real emotions it kind of fell flat on me and I remember why I was a BoHo shipper.
Anyways, now that I finished all 20 episodes of 1988 (I dunno how but I did it in like 4 days..) I can refer back to your ancient post on Vanishing Points from April.. I think these sentiments STILL ring true, which is why we’re all so pissed off lol When I first watched 1988, I knew the spoilers already and I thought I would be pissed that JH didn’t end up getting the girl.. but in the end I was sad about it BUT Taec crossed that line and did everything in his power to get the girl and in the end he deserved her. Agree that not sure if BY deserves him in the end haha but so far I haven’t given up.

I was sad about JH, too but I knew that it was going to be Taec all the way. I wanted the JH 2.0 version here, MinHo, to get the girl this time. MinHo is JH but this time, he corrected the errors of JH. For instance, pursuing the girl. JH gave up too easily. Then, apologizing to the girl. JH didn’t do that; he pretended to be mean so his friends wouldn’t pity him. MinHo had no pride and didn’t care how he looked like in front of his friends.
Also, the “just kidding”. At the last minute, JH backpedalled. To save his ego, he bailed out on himself. You’d have to wonder what would have happened if he had proposed on the way to the restaurant – without the company of the gang. That’s the problem with JH. He was too self-conscious. He did NOT go all out for love. And that exasperated me about his character. He suffered from “arrested development” of his own making. I always thought he should have followed the motto of champions: Go big or go home.😒

Sometimes I wonder why I still cannot root for the main couple..is it because of me liking the minho actor so much that I tend to be blind towards the whole loveline between ye and by or is it because of the writing and the ye actor himself..but thinking it again, I blame the writing and the ye actor. I had the same experience when watching go back couple where I seriously shipping the second lead but the writer made me change my ship to the main lead by the end of the drama..so yeah I have no problem to root for the main couple if the writer is good enough to convince me why they should end up together.. but sadly I just couldn’t feel it in this drama.
And you know what? The preview for the final episodes is showing ye and boyoung trying to be comfortable around each other. Lmao. Ye is trying so hard to drop their formality with by. And of course yeliners argue that minho n by were friends since college, of course they are more comfy with each other blah blah. But this is a drama.. not a real life where we need to follow the real timeline.. the writer should address this issue since the beginning, not waiting until the final episode to resolve this issue so we can root for them.. I believe if the writer address this early on, we can say that ye has a character development going on, but too bad he do it in the final episode. It’s really too late

“Act naturally” was always an issue with Boyoung-Ye. It started in Episode 12, Day 1 of their relationship. Three episodes later, SHE is still acting uncomfortably and unnaturally with each other. Who talks in a girly way like Boyoung? At the beginning of this Ep 15, the clerk at the grocery store gave her a side-eye expressing disgust at her cutesy talk. Ewwww.
She can talk like that to Ye, but when it comes to REAL conversation, she can’t say anything. Like, why can’t she tell him that Dr Yang and the rest of the team find it uncomfortable to tell him anything?
Then her job anxiety. MinHo can read her signs without problem, but this guy who professes to “love” her cannot read her at all. Then in that stupid macaroon letter, he writes “Forgive me because I’m LACKING.” If he’s lacking, then what is Minho? MinHo understands BY??
Anyone watched Because It Is The First Time with Shinee’s Minho as the lead? That drama showed why he did not get the girl in the end but it was written beautifully. You want to root for him but at the same time torn between him and his bff. The onlt consolation of that drama was that the writer let viewers knew that all along he was the girl’s first love. Just that she moved on. It was too late for Minho to realize his feelings.
That kind of drama is okay with me. This APAD is not.

I’ve no problem when somebody’s moved on already. Hey! I’ve “moved on” a few times, too. But I made 1) a clean break. I didn’t call up my ex and “use” him when I felt down or needy or lonely, EXACTLY bec I didn’t want to confuse him and make him think that we were back on again.
2) my new relationships weren’t “rebound.” I allowed time to pass before starting all over again. With Boyoung, she “PERSUADED” or CONNED herself to fall in love with Ye out of gratitude (because of the YeLine) and out of flattery (because she was teased by her unnie).
She’s grossly infantile. The more I think about this, the more I’m repulsed by her infatuation. I don’t want her for MinHo now. She’s a grown ass woman, but emotionally? She’s stunted.
And 3) I was very aware of my personal faults and strengths, and my goals so I “chose” my partners wisely. Even when I was in my 20s, and not ready to settle down, I didn’t date anybody who I didn’t see as a potential husband and father of my children. 😂 Besides, my father and my brothers were pretty intimidating so my boyfriend had to also pass to their scrutiny.
Boyoung just doesn’t seem to think long-term here. She’s just focused on the THRILL of dating secretly.

Boyoung is an aberration. I think the writer has carried this concept of her infatuation waaay too far and is sending the wrong idea of love to the young generation. The writer is doing the audience a disservice here.
